Food was average. Cheese quesadilla and cheese enchilada was the best thing on our plates. I was looking forward to menudo and was disappointed. The hominy was not cooked long enough to be tender and were still hard. My husband ordered the fish burrito. There were pieces of fish that were tough. Strangely they did not wrap burrito properly and filling was falling out. As for ambience, it was very small with a sports screen saver looping with annoying music. We first sat under table near wall ac unit, we soon discovered that it was spiting condensation at us and had to move. It is in rough part of the city. read more

Food was great we ordered the fried whole fish, Carlos burrito, chicken tacos, California fries and the chicken tamales. Portion size is huge for the price. The owner's daughter is super nice and friendly to everyone who came in. It is no wonder they have been open for 30+ years. We will be back. Now my favorite Mexican spot to eat. read more

Wow, this place rocks. I've searched all over the AV and couldn't find a decent place for Mexican food. This place is by far the best fast food Mexican place out here. Food and service was great. The ambiance felt like abuelas house on a Sunday afternoon. The menudo was deep in flavor and the meat was cooked to perfection. Little gelatin and and chew in every bite. I have been living in the AV for about 20 years and I can't believe I never took the time to come in service was amazing and the food was what you see in LA. Good!! Just moved here from Ventura county where there is an abundance of Mexican joints I love. Everything I've tried in the AV has been mediocre until i found this place. Had a shrimp cocktail and it was delicious . It had so much shrimp as well! We also had the asada fries to share. The meat was so soft and had a great taste. My husband had the mojara and he tore it up. Definitely recommend this place also staff was super friendly. read more

Best breakfast burritos in town. The people who work here are so nice and always happy. The food is great quality and fairly priced.

With generous portions, it was a very satisfying lunch. Had the lunch special of the day. Indoor seating but no outdoor seating. We have a dog, so sat on the truck tailgate in the shady corner of the parking lot. It's an old-school kind of establishment. Unpretentious, low tech but comfortable. I normally enjoy my meals here but yesterday i was craving chile rellenos so I came and ordered one. I was very surprised to get an omelette instead. No fluffy egg battered poblano this was literally an omelette. Not sure who was doing the cooking but if this is your version of a chile relleno it was extremely disappointing. read more

There's an overwhelming amount of "mexican food" restaurants in the AV. Most of them are mediocre at best. I find myself going to the same disappointing places out of habit. I won't say no names, but the biggest Mexican food fraud restaurant in the AV rhymes with Mi Ranchito. With that said, Sammy's is a truly authentic Mexican restaurant, from their hand-made corn tortillas to their very own Michelada recipe. Food tastes like nostalgic memories of what is known to be real Mexican food. Like I told the very nice lady, " I hate myself for not going sooner." I'm a greedy man and want this place all to myself for obvious reasons, but this place deserves to be known. People, I advise you to stop going to mediocre Mexican restaurants or overpriced "street taco" vendors. Eat real food, Sammy's is where it's at. Only con, the area is a little sketchy, but they have a drive thru. So you don't have to eat in. I will continue to go and eat there, it's worth it! read more

Wow. Came by to eat some menudo. Opening the lid and the stench was a warning that this menudo was not going to taste well. Against my better judgement I went ahead and gave it a go. So disgusting and gross. I ordered two menudos to go. At 12.99 each. And was charged 35.35. Never ever coming back here again. read more
