    C6. Szechuan Chicken Combo

How? As in how did this place get its reputation? Food is oily and bland and gave me the BG's later on. Chinese food in Astoria is hit or miss to begin with. We ordered the Singapore style chow mai fun and Szechuan chicken. They were both tasteless and greasy. It's like they just threw the ingredients in hot oil and stirred then tada. The Szechuan wontons were ok though.

I've been impressed with the food here so far. It'll be my go-to from now on bc the quality and portions are great for the price! They also have delicious crab rangoons in the shape/style I love!

The place provides greasy, tasty, and cheap Chinese takeout in a neighborhood where there is a surprising dearth of Chinese takeout places (either that, or these Chinese spots are doing a good job of keeping off the radar). As such, this spot has essentially grown into the old standby for yours truly (in as far as when the craving for some takeout of the Chinese variety hits). At the end of the day, however, if you've gotten Chinese takeout before, then you'll know what to expect from this place. A variety of combo platters (of which 90% of all orders will be made for General Tsao's chicken... just a fact of life) are available for your enjoyment... pairing a classic Chinese protein with rice (fried or white) and your choice of either a soup or an egg roll. All this food in a combo can easily be split into two meals, and all at a price lower than $10... makes me wonder how these places stand to make any money by serving such bountiful (in quantity, although not necessarily in nutrition). All in all, odd are you'll be able to find some menu items that are wallet-friendly that you wouldn't mind shelling out for from time to time... and if you ever feel like being adventurous and exploring the menu, you can rest assured that there are plenty of menu items to experiment with.

One of the better Chinese take outs (and dine in) in Astoria. The spicy dishes are actually spicy. Will order again!

Vegetable Lo Mein -- bland and a bit overcooked.

Sampan is my go to Chinese delivery in Astoria, and I'm a big fan of their chicken and broccoli and cream cheese wontons.

The restaurant is a few blocks from the main street of Steinway so it'll take a bit of searching. Going inside, the area is rather abstract. Pink flower wallpaper on one end and dry wall on the other, it's kinda off-putting but I didn't come here for the atmosphere anyway. Service was lukewarm, I got my order in but the two workers inside weren't too receptive and the menu itself is kinda barebones with most of their food being a bit more than I would like to pay for so I just settled on one order of Singapore Mei Fun. After waiting 10 minutes for my food to arrive, the Singapore noodles which are usually spicy were kinda salty but it was nothing a bit of duck sauce wouldn't fix. This one order cost $17 while not the worst Singapore Mei Fun...well technically it is, even though it's not horrible but I've had much better from other places for a stable price of $12. Yeah, a rather disappointing visit. Not the worst I've ever had but could be so much better.

I got the wonton soup and pork juicy buns. The soup was different from other wonton soups with the addition of cilantro and some nice balancing flavors for the salt, and the juicy buns were your classic soup dumplings with a very nice rich sauce to dip in. The dandan noodles my friend ordered were maybe my favorite, they were the perfect level of spicy and so flavorful without being overwhelming. I'd go back just for my own plate of those. The service was quite fast, and it's a cute little shop that feels like a small town Chinese restaurant. Very reasonably priced as well. Some of my favorite Chinese food I've found outside of Lower Manhattan !
