This old-timey coffee shop…read morein Van Nuys has been a steady presence in the area for decades, famous for house-made muffins and jams, and really high quality diner fare served by a friendly, warm and welcoming staff. The decor is exactly what you'd expect (and exactly what you want) from a neighborhood coffee shop: formica tables, padded chairs and booths, aging photos on the walls, and lively music playing on the radio. It was bustling at lunchtime on a Thursday, but not crazy busy (as on many weekend mornings), so I was seated immediately. The menu boasts a fairly large selection of options, from the usual breakfast items to sandwiches and burgers, daily specials, and those aforementioned muffins (which you can get instead of toast with your breakfast if you like). Today, I opted for their Spicy Louisiana Hot Link with eggs, grits and toast. It was a very generous portion of food for $16.95, and I appreciate how they've manage to keep their prices reasonable. The eggs were a proper over-medium, and the grits were both hot and creamy. The side of butter melted easily into the porridge, which, when salted and peppered, made for a satisfying and savory bite. The sausage was split and grilled, showing off a nice char; they were spicy, as advertised, but not overly powerful, and they paired very well with the warm, creamy egg yolk. Rye toast was full of caraway flavor, and really shone when topped with butter and a generous slather of Nat's house-made Apricot Jam (packed with fruit flavor without being too sweet). Yes, Nat's remains a solid, satisfying spot for breakfast and lunch. And though parking can sometimes be a challenge, I find the food is well worth the effort.

Located in the Encino Town Center, I am so happy that my daughter recommended this restaurant. The interior of the restaurant is large, with numerous well-stocked tables and many more tables located outside for patio dining. There also appeared to be a mid-sized banquet room off to one side, behind closed doors, which several guests were exiting to use the restrooms. The entire staff was very friendly, hard-working, and attentive to each of their assigned tables. The specialty here is the waffles; however, their menu is HUGE!!! It offers guests a variety of other food options, including pancakes, salads, omelets, crepes, and more. My family and I ordered Nutella crepes, peach waffles, frittata, and seasoned potatoes. Each item was DELICIOUS, fresh, and well prepared. We plan to return here soon to try other great-sounding options on the menu. This was a very positive dining experience.

It's on van nuys blvd so there is parking in the back which is nice. The food was good and the portions were big but I asked for ketchup and syrup and it took a while to get. We arrived, checked in, and waited our turn while carrying a baby. Then another group that arrived after us was seated first. I personally heard them say they did not have a reservation. When I questioned the young employee about why they were seated ahead of us, she told me they did have a reservation. That is completely unacceptable. Being skipped is already frustrating, but being given an explanation that directly contradicts what I personally heard makes the situation even worse. Customers should not be treated as if they are stupid or expected to simply accept whatever excuse they are given. If this restaurant has a waiting list, then respect it. If certain customers are going to receive preferential treatment, then at least be honest about it. There is absolutely no reason for a loyal customer, especially one waiting with a baby, to be treated this way. I have recommended this restaurant to many people in the past, but I will no longer be doing that after today. A business can have good food, but dishonest and unfair customer service can completely ruin the experience. Management should take this seriously. You do not build customer loyalty by allowing staff to skip people, give preferential treatment, and then provide questionable explanations when customers speak up. This was disrespectful, unprofessional, and extremely disappointing.

They serve omelettes, sandwiches, salads, chicken wings, pastas, grilled salmon and PERFECT individual pizzas (that are still large enough to share). Even though you order at the register and the wait staff delivers to your table, the service is outstanding (even to your doggies!). Everyone who works there is friendly and helpful and attentive. The garden atmosphere is lovely. You dine under a trellis of fairy lights and bougainvillea. And on certain evenings and lunch times, they have wonderful musicians provide soft background music. They also have an interior space which is nice as well (and air conditioned), but the real charm is the garden, where my maltipoo, Bella, is always spoiled (she especially loves the fries). Parking can be challenging, so, I recommend going just before or just after the breakfast, lunch or dinner rush. I live in the neighborhood, but I have friends who drive from DTLA, Hollywood , West L.A. and even farther away to meet me there just for coffee (try the Vanilla Latte - yum), a lavender lemonade or a glass of wine and a plate of chicken wings (cooled in different styles). The owners and their family work there, too, and always make me, my dog and my friends feel so welcomed and special. I cannot recommend it highly enough.

Clean bathrooms. We definitely will be back. Sorry no pictures of the actual restaurant. Plenty pics of the delicious food!!!

They were light, sweet, and a nice way to start the meal without committing to a full sweet breakfast. For my main meal, I had the Steak Hash, which was really good. The combination of beef tenderloin, potatoes, eggs, spinach, mushrooms, Gorgonzola, and hollandaise made it hearty and flavorful. We also had the Crunchy French Toast, and that was amazing. Definitely one of the highlights of the meal and something I would order again. What made the experience even better was the owner. He was incredibly friendly, welcoming, and made you feel like he genuinely appreciated you being there. That kind of hospitality always stands out. What bothers me is being asked to choose a tip before I've received the service. I'm given options like 10%, 15%, 18%, or 20%--but how am I supposed to know what level of service deserves 10% versus 20% when the service hasn't happened yet? If I choose 10% and the service is excellent, I may feel like I should have tipped more. If I choose 20% and the service is poor, I feel like I've overpaid. Ironically, this system makes me more likely to choose a conservative tip every time. I'd much rather have the option to tip after the service is provided, when I can actually evaluate the experience. My recommendation: keep the QR ordering if you want, but move the tipping option to the end of the meal, after the service has been provided. That would make tipping feel more fair and meaningful.
