The food was good and the portions were big but I asked for ketchup and syrup and it took a while to get. The potatoes were too salty and the eggs weren't seasoned but everything else was good. I was there the other day as the menu seemed to be really good and I was excited to try. I settled on chicken and waffles and even asked the server if it was a white meat chicken breast or tenders that that were with the meal and she confirmed it was three pieces and one was white meat. Had the answer been no, I would have moved on to my other top choice or second choice or whatever. 20 min later my plate arrived with no white meat. I saw 4 pieces - all small and two were clearly a wing and drumstick and I assume the other was a thigh cut in half. I checked it to see as it was dark in the restaurant by touching it. My mom and I were sharing and she was going to eat the dark meat but the server wouldn't take the food back because I had touched it. Well that was it for my OCD, wait a do you re a serve food? Of course I touched it, I was the plate I ordered and I was looking for the white meat that was supposed to be on the plate. I just wanted her to bring me my proper order by bringing me a breast or tenders. She didn't have to remove the food. That was enough to mar my experience with them. She did bring me a piece finally. Been wanting to come to this place since it openend. For a while it was on the hot and new list. It also got a lot of promotion on instagram. You might ask. Why the 1 star review. Well.... I ordered chilaquiles. The ones that come with green and red salsa.. i wanted to see which salsa was better. Green salsa is a beautiful flavor tangy lil spicy well seasoned. But it was just green salsa poured over chips.. not incorporated and cooked together. The red salsa was well seasoned spicy and smokey. Not sure if they uses chile morita or Chipotle. Same thing salsa just poured over chips.. i mean I can enjoy some crispy chilaquiles but that was just straight up chips and salsa. The beans on the side were also really good. The "steak" was carne picada.. and honestky it was a bit hard. My chilaquiles did not come with cheese or crema . So I asked the waitress if they weren't supposed to come with . She was very apologetic and brought ke some on the side... ummmmm. Didnt taste the same as it would've already been added to the plate. Then. While I was eating the chips with salsa on my plate I pull it of the plate and what do I see. A freaking nasty ass hair!! honestly its been hrs since I left and im still queasy. I called over one of the waitresss that was available and she said it was from the egg. Ummmmm seriously. From the egg. It was about 5inches long. How could it be from the egg. This is my second post and that's totally fine ! This place is so wonderful and delicious that I wasn't sure if I wanted to share. All of the items were order came out hot and fast but soooooo fresh and filling. The service was an amazing. They do a great job using all of the workers to check on the guest and attend to the needs. They are kind and polite as well as efficient. The inside just tops off all of the other parts and makes it that much more wonderful. You get to sit and enjoy with that feeling of being rushed through . I found this restaurant on Yelp and was eager to try it. After looking at their photos, I noticed they offered quite a wide selection of food. I waited about 40 minutes to be seated, as I arrived during a very busy period. The restaurant has a cozy, rustic-modern cafe vibe that leans casual but is thoughtfully designed. However, it was very rowdy by the time I was seated. Let's talk about the service. My server was one of the slowest I've ever had. It took her about 15 minutes just to bring out our drinks, and she lacked attentiveness. She didn't seem able to handle multitasking. I ordered the chorizo burrito and some pancakes. The chorizo burrito consisted of chorizo, scrambled eggs, melted cheese, and home fries (country-style potatoes). The home fries inside the burrito were dry and had a hard texture, I honestly felt like I might hurt my jaw chewing them. The chorizo itself had a mildly spicy, smoky flavor. It wasn't the best, but it wasn't the worst either. The pancakes had a buttermilk flavor and were served with fresh fruit on top. However, they were dry and tough, and the flavor was very lackluster. We waited a while before getting seated. I normally do not mind the wait, but it wasn't busy and there were enough servers to seat us and manage the front. It just seemed a little disorganized. It took time for them to take our order too, but when our dishes arrived, they were delicious! Unfortunately, there must have been some kind of miscommunication as I ordered my chilaquiles with over medium eggs (because runny whites gross me out) and they came over hard, almost baked. Hidden gem on Van Nuys! The food is delicious (with generous portions), the house coffee is flavorful, the decor is adorable, the room is spacious (yet cozy, which is neat), and the staff are friendly and attentive without being overbearing. I ordered the pancake combo with bacon, eggs, and home fried potatoes. The presentation was beautiful. The pancakes were thick and fluffy, but weren't my favorite. This was my second time coming to this location and I was very very disappointed. The first time I came, I came with a group of friends and the food tasted great as well as their Vanilla Iced latte. The service was also very pleasant. The second time around, I made a reservation online and was seated within 10min. The server was not very friendly, each time we asked questions about the menu, she didn't seem to want to give us suggestions on popular plates or drinks what plates she recommended. Her response was very dry, unfriendly "Idk, whatever you like then get it, that will be good". The food presentation was amazing but the food was very bland. I ordered avocado eggs Benedict. My eggs was overly yolky. We also ordered chilaquiles and they were bland and unpleasant. It was unfortunate because I had high hopes of everything tasting great but I don't think I will be coming back. I made a reservation in advance, but upon arrival, the owner (Omar) insisted no reservation existed and repeatedly accused me of lying, even after I showed proof of my call log. The interaction escalated quickly. He spoke to me in a hostile manner, put his finger in my face, and began recording me. After I mentioned leaving a review, he stated that he knew my Instagram, which felt intimidating and inappropriate. There was also clear miscommunication from staff. We were told we would have a dedicated server and could not order at the counter, but no one ever returned to take our orders, leaving our group unattended. As the organizer, this was extremely embarrassing and disappointing for both me and my guests. This experience reflected a serious lack of professionalism and customer respect. It has a warm welcoming feeling when you walk in and we were given a friendly greeting and seated right away. Although the service was a little slow it's understandable as it's a new place and only had one server that I noticed and one helper but they were able to take care of every table with great service. The food is really good and I look forward to trying more of the menu. I had the California omelette and it was loaded with bacon and avocado which is out of the ordinary for many other restaurants. Waitress was nice, they did take off the chicken and waffles off the bill. But we still paid almost $50!!! Place is very expensive. It was only two of us. What a fantastic coffee shop hidden along the streets of Van Nuys! A hidden gem. WELL hidden. Barely visible from the street, this beautiful breakfast/lunch place is a real surprise for this area. It's right across from the Van Nuys City Hall complex, and it feels like a glimpse of the gentrified future destined for this neighborhood once the subway station is up a few blocks away. My husband & I decided to pop into this place this morning for Father's day breakfast. The restaurant is really spacious and nicely decorated with a relaxing vibe. The food was very good. The only thing that could have been better was the seasoned french fries. They seemed to be refried again in the oil to heat them up which made them super oily and old tasting. The scrambled veggie omelettes were delicious and huge. We added cheese and avocado to them which made them even better. The nutella banana crepes were yummy too.
