Can we make it easier, please? The selection is awesome, though, and I find a lot of things fitting my current season - snacks without seed oils or refined sugar, rotisserie chickens that make wonderful dinners, lots of cool prepared stuff in the freezer section - like soup dumplings - and lots and lots of assorted gadgets and goodies. Today's tastings were on point, too - especially that quiche thing - fam, it was so, so very good. The employees are friendly, the store is clean, the parking lot is big, and the baskets hold more than you need...trust me, the freezer is hard to close and there are a few things stored in my bedroom. I'm definitely a bigger fan of Member's Mark, but Costco has some items you won't find at the blue store - like that maple syrup aged in bourbon casks or whatever it is. So so soooooo good. I can't wait for the next hiking day so I can make a plate of pancakes and drench them in the syrup. I almost wanna have it in a shot glass, really. There are a ton of member programs, but we just eat the food and Nurri, so I can't comment on any of it. Tuffaroo loves going to Costco, so we go - what more do you need to what?

Today was my lucky day in that she had one temporary pass left. With the temporary pass, there could be no returns, and I had to return the pass to the checkout clerk after my purchase. It's a great place to buy bulk food and food supplies. They have great cookware and cooking utensils also. Yes, they cater more to restaurants, but you can find things that may be hard to find at your average retail store.

While waiting, I observed an employee preparing food, making smoothies, handling cash transactions, and then returning to food preparation while wearing the same pair of gloves throughout the process. Because I had noticed this behavior on previous visits, I decided to ask about it. I asked whether the gloves were intended to protect customers from germs or protect the employee. The employee responded, "We have a lot of gloves. I just didn't have a chance to change them." That response was concerning. Cash is handled by countless people and can carry dirt, bacteria, and other contaminants. Seeing the same gloves used for food preparation and cash handling defeats the purpose of wearing gloves in the first place. What concerns me most is that this did not appear to be a one-time oversight. I have observed similar practices on multiple visits, which suggests it may be a routine habit rather than an isolated incident. Costco may have food safety policies in place, but policies are only effective when they are consistently followed. Based on what I have repeatedly observed, I am no longer comfortable purchasing food from this location's outdoor food court. I hope management reviews food handling procedures and ensures that proper glove-changing and sanitation practices are consistently followed to protect customers.

During my visit, there was a surprising amount of manpower wasted just directing customers to different lines, instead of actually moving people through checkout. Employees were repeatedly telling shoppers where to go, which line to switch to, or where to stand, yet the lines still moved slowly and felt disorganized. It created more confusion than efficiency. If they turn the front aisle vertical to the cashiers the problems could be eliminated and the workers could be used wiser. Costco is usually a masterclass in logistics, so this was disappointing. With better flow or clearer lane management, the same staff could be helping customers check out faster rather than acting as traffic controllers. Costco is still good value but the checkout experience here takes away from what should be a smooth, high-volume operation.

But while staying here, I do stop in to mosey around and see what products/items this location offers that's unique to other locations. The difference is they have some LSU memorabilia and a few Louisiana condiments and beverages you can't find elsewhere. As always, there's all the grocery aisles which consist of the bulk items from the deli and bakery. And of course, those hot items such as the rotisserie chicken and rack of ribs. Cold items including the wraps, cocktail shrimp, salads, and the ready-to-eat meals adorn this place too. I'll sometimes grab one of the meals and let it last for days whenever I'm on travel and staying in one of the hotels around. Since this Costco has been open for several years, it's evident there's some wear and tear around the warehouse. The parking lot can be a bit dirty as well so check your surroundings when here.
