Sandwiches are pretty good. A bit overpriced but that's par for the course on Cape. The biggest detractor, honestly, is the wait time. I worked in restaurants and a busy pizza place for years. I've also eaten at delis and markets in Boston and New York with way more volume and they all crank out quality food at good prices so much faster than this place. I want this Deli at home in Buffalo!!! Unfortunately due to timing, we were only able to do breakfast sandwiches (3 days in a row). The subs look amazing and really wanted them, but since they are not open past late lunch, that didn't happen. They literally had the BEST Everything bagel, including a sprinkling of oats along with the usual. Cookies huge and reasonably priced My friend also bought cinnamon rolls daily. Their slices of chicken pot pie looked amazing. So many good things to look at that we didn't get to taste. They also carried a nice assortment of locally made products. The only thing that would have made us happier would be a fried instead of scrambled egg. We have been getting breakfast sandwiches here the last few days. Bacon, egg, and cheese on bagels w/2 eggs. Pricey at $17 but summer tourist season so whatever. They are very good and would be amazing with fried eggs not scrambled. Bagels are big and NY style. Bacon is good and cooked well. Not too rubbery and not too crispy. Sam's is hands down the best sandwich place on outer cape BUT they also offer the worst service in the State of MA! Their sandwiches are all hand made with fresh ingredients and homemade bread which understandably takes time. Unfortunately before COVID (summer of '18 & 19) and now during COVID the happy, friendly and cheerful help hired for the summer appear to lack any organized process to make the Sandwiches! We try to always call ahead and a 3 sandwich order while expected to take 30-45 minutes is always more. Waiting in store or outside is comical with a few employees always looking for orders between the shelves behind the register and the ones making and bringing them to the shelves? Excellent food and service with great prices. SAMs is our go to establishment for picnics at the beach and our ride home. Their sandwiches are LARGE ( we share one at times) and their "tubs" to go are always fresh and tasty (both the curried chicken and the broccoli salad rocks) SAMs is busy and stretch thin. Hate to say it, but this place is falling apart! We saw it over the summer with things ordered like scones -- being just partially cooked. Very sad. Just earlier this month, it was our first time up to the Cape for the year, and the sandwich for the kid in front of us somehow entirely just disappears. Just a very scattered and chaotic energy, as much as I hate to say it; we ended up staying 30+ extra minutes for our order to be completed. I think they changed owners? Normally I wouldn't say something like this during a time like this, but Sam's has been in a slow downward spiral prior to the pandemic. The sandwiches here are very good. The owner is not. She is rude and looks down on the customers. I have been coming here for years and this new person doesn't seem to know much about customer service. She gives the impression that she is doing you a favor by unlocking the door each morning. I asked her a polite, appropriate question and she responded like I am a nuisance. . And she was yelling at her employees! I generally only write strong, positive reviews of the places I visit. Wow what a letdown this was. Not sure if I remember the subs better than they really are or what but I was unpleasantly surprised. They had everything right, good presentation of the store, delicious looking baked goods, and a loyal customer group that was greeted happily by the friendly staff, but if your looking for a sub worth your money this is not your place. I was hoping to be able to put the sub up there in the ranks of the subs back home but I really struck out. What a joke. Do not come here unless you are ready to wait 45 minutes for mediocre sandwiches...the slaw and the mac salad was sooo bland. Tasted like plain noodles...I assumed the reasoning behind 7 people in the service line was to have a decent ready time but the ladies don't seem to have much worth ethic. I would say this is a safe stop for lunch on the go if your starving, can't drive another mile to eat. It's clean, prices listed, not many choices for sandwiches. You get a ticket when you order and they say your number to get your food. The drinks and chips are extra. Over 75% of the bottled drinks were $2.00. It had a variety of off of to prepare at home.. I would not make it my first food stop in the area. But it was warm, filling and the cheese was melted on the meat load. My boyfriend and I went here twice during our recent trip to Cape Cod to pack a picnic lunch for our beach trip. Our first visit trip here was amazing! We ordered at the counter and the sandwiches came out within 10 minutes and was exactly what we ordered. A few days later we came back, however, the wait was going to be over 45 minutes for 2 sandwiches so we decided to leave, run some errands, and order over the phone. When we got there we were able to receive our sandwiches and leave within 5 minute, which was great. Despite the great experience so far, I've given a rather low rating because I ordered a vegetarian sandwich over the phone the second time we ordered at Sam's and was very excited about, however, after we left and got to the beach i opened my sandwich I had been given a Turkey Club with Bacon. I double checked their menu online (which is rather difficult to find) and confirmed what I ordered and what was written on my package was in fact a vegetarian sandwich. I was extremely disappointed with this oversight. Moving forward, if you don't have any dietary restrictions, i'd recommend this deli the quality of the food is great and the selection is great as well. The Rathbone was very bare bones and was essentially turkey on bread with a couple peppers and tomatoes thrown on top. Could've really used some lettuce and some more veggies in general on the sandwich. Meatball sub was fine, but the proportions of bread to meatball to cheese to tomato sauce was off. This place is a gem - a hidden jewel that unless you stumble upon from a local you won't see as it is slightly off Route 6. Great sandwiches that folks line up to order. Looks like they had a good menu but the deli is operated by 7 teenagers who work at a slugs pace. No adult supervision. They stop to chat constantly. I ordered 3 sandwiches, waited for 25 minutes and they had not even started the 3rd sandwich (barely anyone in the store). I had to to be somewhere so I had to have them only ring me up for the 2 sandwiches they were able to finish in 25 mins. Unbelievably slow service.
