Small, casual breakfast/lunch place across from the harbor in Scituate, MA. My family and I came here on a weekday around 10:30am and were able to find seating with no issue (it was seat yourself). A server came by and dropped menus at our table and took our drink order. When they came back with our drinks, we ordered our meals. I ordered the Apple Pie French Toast from their weekly specials menu. Food came out in under 15 minutes and was absolutely fresh. I will be dreaming over how good the bread tasted from my French toast. It was so soft. While the food was great, the service was lacking. Our server never checked on us or refilled our drinks. I was able to flag her down for more water after she dropped the bill off at our table. Be aware that this place is cash only. There is a small parking lot outside the restaurant and we were able to find parking, but it does get more crowded later in the day. read more

Hard to tell if the food was good at all since "service with a smile" doesn't come with it. Waitress serving the food was rude, short (when asked a question) and looked like she's underpaid, overworked and ready to retire. Wasn't able to finish an entire pancake and asked her for a to go box. What i got instead was a slim rectangular box instead of a squarish, styrofoam box which would fit my pancake, which she looked at. Like somebody else wrote, this is a problem when there's no competition. There's no incentive for the establishment to better itself, service-wise as well as food-wise. If you want to start your day right with a hearty, warm meal, better look elsewhere. read more

The only reason that I am giving this place 1 star is that you can't leave a review otherwise. I was greeted and sat almost instantly. The person who seated me was very nice. Said a waitress would be with me shortly to take my order. That and the food is the 5 star part of this review. It only goes downhill from there. It decided what sounded good, and took 10 minutes to get an order in. Waitstaff walked right by me several times. I finally got my order in, and the food was done a few minutes before it got to me. The food was warm, which is more than I can say for the waitstaff. The food was delicious. Not four bites in and under 1/2 of cup of coffee, one waitress in a loud enough tone for both myself, and the table on the other side of me hear, as well as a mother and child at the bar, and the man who sat me say how big of an (expletive) a customer was. If I was that mother, I would have gotten up and left. I was pretty done by this point. I got a warm up. That's it. The menu, a tiny warm up, and the check. No one asked me how my food was or said goodbye. Suffice to say that was my first, and last visit, I get better service at McDonalds. Delicious food or not, the service there sucks. read more

Awful. Worst breakfast I have ever had. Possibly the worst meal ever. Both of us could not even touch our food. Potatoes were raw. Eggs were seemingly a mixture of water and egg mix, not even seasoned. The "steak" was a half inch thick piece of shoe leather. The egg muffin in the eggs Benedict wasn't toasted. The egg was a wet mess. The hollandaise sauce looked and tasted like it came out of a can. And the ham was a wet flavorless mess. The second dish of steak and eggs that came out due to the kindness of our server, was just as bad. Except in this instance the steak was just raw, no sear, purple inside. Just raw. Sam's is a greasy spoon breakfast spot without the charm that you hope offsets the greasy spoon menu. I ordered two eggs over medium with toast and hash browns. The hash browns were not cooked for long enough and were over salted; the eggs were also undercooked--over easy rather than over medium. Obviously there is a fine line between the two, but a diner should get their eggs right every time as eggs are at the heart of their menu. The service was slow though it was not necessarily the waitress's fault as they appeared understaffed for a weekend rush. It's a solid C- of a spot and cash only to boot. read more

Ok I read many of the reviews prior to going to Sam's this AM. I had been there many times in the past and always had a nice time and good food. I need you all to know the this restaurant has changed hands and there are no RUDE SERVERS!! Chrissy waited on us and was a delight. They missed my feta in my veggie omelette so I said just bring me a little on the side and it appeared in a minute. I needed to hit the ladies room halfway through eating and I came back to a NEWLY MADE OMELETTE with feta... not only that but she boxed up the first one for me to take home. Today, because I am usually disappointed with the food, we went super basic. Eggs, sausage, toast, literally couldn't eat it. The food quality is not good. The sausage tasted like it had been in the freezer for wayyy too long. And the potatoes are neither tender nor crispy, a strange slightly undercooked texture with salt. This makes me sad as it's one of the only breakfast places in Scituate. The cold day old cream cheesed bagel leftover from Gunther Tooties yesterday was amazing compared to this meal. read more

Looking for bland generic breakfast with a rude waitstaff? This is your place. Sam's on the Harbor In Scituate Massachusetts is blank white, cold and rigid, and resembling that of a waiting room for a doctors office. While the food isn't much to write home about they do offer a tremendous view of the harbor parking lot. The older woman who I presume was the manager was incredibly rude. When my wife requested her sausage links cut in half and grilled we heard from across the restaurant, which being blank white and very empty sound travels easily, "we don't f***ing do that here" Not to mention they are cash only, which in 2022 is ridiculous. When the server brought it up to the manager she said "no we don't do that here, what does she want us to cut her f**king sausage for her." Incredibly RUDE service. There were THREE open tables with two parties ahead of us and we were told there would be a 45 minute wait. After being told about the long wait, I went to get my coffee in the car while my mom used the bathroom. We were going to take a walk while we waited, but when I stepped back in to get my parents, the ill-tempered older woman at the front podium looked at me and rudely said: "No outside coffee" in a loud voice in front of five people. So much for a nice Father's Day breakfast for my Dad who had never been here. To add to this, my mother and I were frequent customers who often came to Sam's for a fun time out. My parents have lived here 30 years and we have never been treated with such horrible service in Scituate! We will NOT be back. We had visiting employees that were staying nearby and took the group out for breakfast. There were 6 of us and we all enjoyed our meals that we agreed to go back again the next day. I'm a fan of breakfast. Scrambled eggs, french toast, coffee, pancakes, bacon, waffles, omeletes, hash browns -- you name it, I'm there. Give me a Denny's or IHOP with salty waitresses and a heat lamp-warmed buffet where the tubs of syrup and grits each have a sketchy film on top and I am a happy man. I'm even happier at gourmet joints where the waitresses are tattooed & pierced, the french toast is made with day-old challah bread, the eggs are farm-fresh, cage free and perfectly poached, and the bacon is heirloom pork lovingly cured in-house. Sam's is the former, not the latter. To all the other reviewers, I repeat, Sam's is a basic breakfast joint, not a gourmet place. This is Scituate, after all. 5 South Main is just a few minutes away in Cohassett if you want a delicious but fancy-pants breakfast. I've eaten at Sam's for breakfast 3-4 times a month for about a year, always on the weekends, and only once have had slow service (the kitchen was short handed.) The coffee is good and bottomless, the raisin toast (that you CAN order w/o butter... but why would you???) is fantastic, and the eggs/hash browns/bacon combo superb. I've had better pancakes, of course, but not at Denny's or IHOP, so I'm not complaining. The waitresses are awesome -- some hyper-friendly, some a bit cranky -- but that's part of the experience. Breakfast joint waitresses working the weekend are the hardest working women in show business. Think about it -- they're up really early, usually leaving family behind, working when most people are playing, and then they have to put up with breakfast snobs who probably leave a 15% tip on a $8 breakfast. We should all feel lucky not to have a pot of hot coffee dumped in our lap as soon as we sit down. Use my breakfast tip rule -- 50%, rounded up. Why only a four star review? Okay so listen to me and listen good. DO NOT spend your money here. Spend an extra 5 mins to drive somewhere else. This place relies on regulars to drive its business and I swear it DESERVES to go out of business. Don't get me wrong; I've NEVER reviewed a place under 3.5 stars in any platform because I've always valued the jobs that rely on businesses like these. I have been to this place dozens of times (if only due to the proximity to my mother and her less recent house acquisition) and I have never had a "good" meal. Everything has been just okay or "ehh" so I've never thought to review; but today we ordered takeout and got ripped off beyond belief. You wouldn't think three shitty, overcooked, !2 EGG! Omelets, and a side order of bacon would be $62.85. My mother ordered a veggie omelet with Ham. We were charged for ham but her's didn't come with it. My brother and I asked for extra cheese (and were charged for it) even though it was the regular amount. We upgraded our hashbrowns to "loaded hashbrowns" of which I'm convinced consisted came down to an extra sausage link, probably one piece of bacon, a THIRD of a green pepper, and at most a fifth of an onion ALL SPLIT BETWEEN THREE ORDERS OF HASHBROWNS AND COST US AND EXTRA $12. (The difference between the two on the menu is about ~$2 each. We ordered them extra crispy and they came out nearly raw; so much so that we didn't eat them. The owner must honestly not care; they steadily get money from the locals for their crappy food, but you'll be better off at Dunkin. Trust someone that's been there; they WILL rip you off for food that I've at least twice seen cooked by someone obviously younger than 17. But hey, if you like paying 4-1/2 star prices for 1-1/2 star food, this might be the place for you!!! read more

Sam's is the only place in town for a sit-down breakfast and it needs competition to step up its game. Breakfast table swiped with a dirty wash cloth. Polite staff and good service, but the most uninspired breakfast we've had in a long time. Home fries were undercooked and mushy. Steak and cheese omelette made with dry shaved steak and sub-par cheese. Wife's croissant special was equally disappointing, like something you'd get at 7-11. This is August. Tomatoes should taste good. Skip this place get an egg sandwich and take a harbor stroll. read more
