Made the mistake of not checking Yelp first. Place is one of the worst overall breakfast experiences of my life. Started out with a rude encounter with a miserable hostess regarding my baby carriage...should have left at that point. Ended up getting seated and the waitress came over and started out ok but ended by being obnoxious and less than attentive. Worst part was the food. Plates were dirty, eggs were inedible and for the first time in my adult life I left bacon and sausage behind...(taps plays in the background) The location alone is enough for this place to be marginally successful, however, they need to remove their heads from their asses. I just had the worst experience at this place. I came in with my two children ages 4 and 2. I was treated like I had dogs not children. The hostess took the jelly off my table and grabbed the syrup out of my four year olds hand. My 4 year old can pour her own syrup. The hostess said she was getting it under the table in which she was not. She stared at my table the whole time I was there. My children where very well behaved. The worst thing that happened was my two year old dropped her fork. When I asked for jelly the waitress went to grab me a whole set of jelly and the hostess ran over and said no way just give them a couple. The atmosphere of the place made me feel uncomfortable. Then a different waitress came with my check and she threw it at me!!!!! I couldn't believe it!!!! I seriously left there crying!! my kids where fine and I was treated like the worlds worst mother. I have never been glared at or repremanded like I was at this restaurant. We showed up at 11:30am with a party of 6. We were told there would be a wait which we were fine with, until we saw an empty table that stayed empty for 15 min before the hostest said we could sit there. For that 15min however she made us stand with our backs to wall in a line so we wouldn;t be in the way! We are all grown adults and we were treated like we were in kindergarden. Throughout our meal the hostest repeatedly glared at us like we were intrupting her day by being there. I had the crab cakes which were imitation crab meat and lots of stuffing. IREALLY, we are on the ocean and they use imitation crab meat? And for the price it should have been real.It will be a long time before I would EVER consider going back to eat at Sams! I went here for breakfast a few days ago, was meeting two friends & was seated before they arrived. They arrived 10 minutes after I did, during that 10 minute wait the hostess checked in with me twice to check to see if my friends "were ever gonna be there" cause they "couldn't spare the table to wait forever" - there were at least 5 other open tables at this point. The waitress was rude, never re-filled coffee, one of the party had no silverware for half the meal. The hostess continued to complain to the host relieving her about my "taking up a table" while there was never a wait for a table during my stay. Against my better judgement and against what the reviews on here would suggest we took our family to breakfast at Sam's last week. We we so pleasantly surprised! Maybe the bad reviews lowered our expectations. We have literally never heard anyone say anything good about this place until recently someone said "it's eggs and coffee, what can you mess up?" so we decided to give it a try. We were there early on a Sunday morning, probably by 8am. The place was almost empty and we got our pick of tables. The server was crazy nice and helpful. We had all 4 kids with us and the server was very accomodating to them and me. In fact, one of my biggest peaves is when a server places a hot dish of food in front of a small child and this server was the first one I have ever encountered who had intellgence enough not to do this. The food was fine. I can't say it was exceptional, but it was eggs and pancakes and it was pretty good. It was honestly just as good as any other place I've been (except Arthur and Pats) and the service was great. Maybe they've learned a few lessons from the bad Yelp reviews? Add to all of this the phenomenal location in Scituate Harbor which provides easy parking and a gorgeous view and we are hooked. read more

Slow, slow and even slower service. Sat at the table for over 20 minutes before the waitress came over and another 30 minutes before the order arrived. It was a Thursday and not even crowded. My husband and I have stopped here for breakfast a few times, and each time we go, we wonder why. We sat at the bar, and waited for our waitress to acknowledge us, which was longer than it should have been. We ordered, then waited some more. After about 10-15 minutes, she came over and said the kitchen was just making the pancakes and it would be right over. At least 15 minutes after that, our food finally arrived, minus my toast. She said it would be right out, but that took another 5 minutes! She never once apologized for the wait, didn't ask if we wanted a refill on drinks, or offer jam for the toast. Just finished a delicious breakfast at this scenic restaurant. I had the ham steak with 2 over easy eggs. The breakfast ham was juicy and tasty and my eggs were perfectly prepared. I had breakfast at Sams this morning with my sister. For a Wednesday morning, this place was packed, we had to wait about 10 minutes for a table so we sat at the bar instead. Our waitress was very pleasant and attentive. Coffee was good and hot. I ordered the steak( mr) and eggs over easy. which was delicious and my sister had Eggs Benny. Unfortunately, she wasn't too thrilled about her meal because the eggs were overcooked and the ham was very thin but she really enjoyed the homefries. The atmosphere inside of the restaurant is lacking appeal but the views of the harbor make up for it. I've never written a review before, but this morning's experience has to be shared!First, a waitress told us we couldn't sit at the table we wanted because we'd "be in the way." 15 minutes to seat 5 ppl and a high chair on a random Tuesday morning. Young host/bus boy rolled his eyes and slammed silverware on the table. Rough start. It look nearly 30 minutes to be served mediocre food. Ordered eggs over hard for a toddler but were soft. Wasn't even worth it to correct the issue because the toddler was starving after waiting for 45 minutes. The menu is typical american breakfast and could use some sprucing - such as a fruit plate, some baked goods (muffins at least) and some lunch sandwich offerings during the later part of the day. The coffee was disappointing at best... watery and poor quality beans. Here again some upscale alternatives such as latte or cappucino would be great. Nothing to special about this small breakfast place. It has breakfast. Which is scarce in Scituate. When I went, my food was good. Not outstanding, but it was good and I would go again. Incredibly rude wait staff, checked hours online, looked at giant sign outside that reads "breakfast all day" walked in a little after 1:00 and was told they had just closed. As dozens of other diners enjoyed food. The food is nothing special. The location is great and it has potential to be a great spot in Scituate harbor but a little more professionalism and politeness from the wait staff, as well as higher quality food (even if that means more expensive...) would go along way! read more

My fiancé and I are regulars at Sam's for the past 2 years. The french toast is my favorite and always delicious. We go on Tuesdays and there are always plenty of tables available. I went here and wasn't too impressed. The hostess took our names down for the wait. Then would only seat parties at tables for that specific number of people. For example, my party of 4 put our names in and were told there was a 30 minute wait. We waited 35 minutes and then a party of 5 waled in and the hostess immediately sat them at a large table for up to 6 people. I went over to discuss this and asked why we weren't seated at that table after waiting over a half hour and then she sat a party of 5 at that table and they didn't have to wait. She explained that she thought we should wait for a table that seats exactly 4 people and that she didn't want us to take up a table of 6 with only 4 people. Once we discussed this further she still didn't see any issue with this. I spoke with the owner and we were seated at the next table. The service was average. The omelets are good. Don't order the homemade beans as they are drenched in ketchup and BBQ sauce, the your traditional baked beans if you ask me. The cornbread is homemade too and just alright...if they didn't warm it up first it would've been extremely dry. I'd refer anyone to Riva's in the area (just a block away from this place) instead. You'll be more satisfied with the friendly wait staff, reasonable prices, option of outdoor patio and plentiful amounts of tasty food. read more

Have been coming to Sam's every Wed for lunch & Sun for breakfast along with my wife and friend Ed. The food is good. The lunch menu is limited because of location. Parking is plentiful and not street parking only like someone said. The waitresses are not rude. They are a lot of fun. Service is normally fast. Seating is a wait time on Sun. Usually 10-15 mins. Some of the things that some of you critical jerks is completely off line. You are very rude to Sam & his wife and the staff. If this place was as bad as some of you say it would be closed. If you don't like a place do not slam it it with lies go someplace. There is another breakfast rest on the other side of town in N. Scituate. Don't be hurtful. I could go on but I won't. Most of you slammers are from out of town so why don't you go to your own town for a meal. You will find that Sam's is typical of most breakfast/lunch places. It is clean and I have never had a dirty plate or cup or silverware. I have never been refused a table after 1pm. They have closed early on a couple of occasions like Heritage Days weekend when there is absolutely no business after 11pm just like other places in the Harbor not on Front St. Don't be afraid to visit Sam's because you will enjoy it and have good food. Recently went for breakfast here for the first time with my husband. The decor is dated and a little weird, but the view out the windows is beautiful. Plus I'd overlook weird curio cabinets for awesome food. Sams doesn't have it. I got two eggs with toast, baked beans, and hash browns. The eggs didn't taste like anything except the old oil they were cooked in. The toast wasn't toasted - not crispy, not warm, it was like it had been toasted an hour ago and left to sit out. The hash browns were bland and pale - not made in house, just from a frozen bag and reheated. My husband got an omelet and said it was gross too. He's usually a fan of anything. So much wasted potential in this place. I also heard the waitress tell people sitting near us that their fishcakes are frozen, and the hash isn't made in house. If I wanted canned or frozen food, I could get that myself from any grocery store. We live in Scituate, and we won't be back. read more

I wanted a simple breakfast of bacon and eggs and was alone, so I sat at the counter. The waitress was two place settings away from me and not doing anything. She didn't notice me, so I grabbed a menu and decided what I would have. I then put the menu away and looked at her, but she didn't acknowledge me. I would have stayed, even with the rude (lack of) service, if I hadn't seen her wipe her nose on her finger and then proceed to pick up the order of some other people seated at the counter. I was visiting my sister with my mom. We were looking for a bite to eat before our train back to Boston. We were excited to find a breakfast place (all day). We were greeted by a hostess who said we would have to wait, but wouldn't give us any idea how long. We weren't sure if we would have enough time before the train. My sister asked 15 minutes? 30? But we never got an estimated time. We decided to take our chances since there was no one waiting in front of us and we saw two empty tables. 5 minutes later, the hostess called us over. "I'm not supposed to give you this table, but since you are in a hurry, I will." She handed us the menus and pointed in the direction of the table. We didn't think it was strange that she didn't lead us to the table, until we saw her lead everyone else to their table after we sat down. Did we have a haunted table or something??? Our waitress was nice enough, and the food was decent for a breakfast place. The vibe was very strange though! Next time we might have to leave Scituate for a more warm atmosphere! read more

I have been to Sam at the harbor a lot actually I have taken my friends there also. Food is great. The plate is full so portions are good. I love the set up also. Have a tv in corner so that your able to watch the news while eating. The owner is always there and seems to be a nice man. I really recommend going there. I like the fact it's not so snotty it's layback and has the feeling of a old fashion breakfast place. read more
