I really do try to support local businesses whenever I can, especially when I stumble across a new spot organically. I passed Sam's Subs and Pizza on my way to a dentist appointment and decided I'd swing back afterward to grab dinner for my family. Unfortunately, my first visit didn't exactly leave me eager for a second. I pulled into one of the designated takeout parking spaces directly in front, went inside, placed my order, and took advantage of their buy one pizza, get one free deal. I also ordered two chicken Phillys. I was told it would be about 20 minutes, so rather than stand around inside, I went back to my car to wait. While I was sitting there, a woman driving a green vehicle pulled into the space next to me with dog tags hanging from the rearview mirror. The person inside kept staring at me and giving me what could only be described as dirty looks. I initially wondered if they thought I was improperly using the takeout parking without actually ordering. Then they went through the employee-only entrance. When I went back inside to pick up my food, that same person was working behind the counter, and the uncomfortable looks continued. I still have absolutely no idea what that was about. I had ordered food, was parked exactly where a takeout customer should be parked, and was simply waiting for my order. Whatever the reason, it felt unnecessarily rude and made for a pretty awkward first impression. I could have easily overlooked that if the food knocked it out of the park, but unfortunately it didn't. The chicken Philly was disappointing. The chicken was chopped rather than the shaved-style meat I was expecting, there wasn't nearly enough cheese, and the entire sandwich desperately needed seasoning. It was incredibly bland. The pizza didn't redeem the experience either. The large felt much closer to what I'd consider a medium elsewhere. The cheese tasted inexpensive, the crust was just okay, and overall there wasn't anything memorable about it. I hate to say it, but I've had frozen pizza I enjoyed more. Supporting local businesses is something I genuinely enjoy doing, but the experience has to make you want to come back. Between feeling strangely unwelcome before I even picked up my food and then being underwhelmed by what I ordered, this just wasn't a great introduction. Treat new customers like you want them to become regulars. First impressions matter, and unfortunately this one missed the mark. read more

My friends and I have ordered regularly from this Sam's for the last year and been so pleased with the quality of the food but tonight's customer service was unacceptable. My little kids and I have been sick for the last few days and I just couldn't cook tonight so I left them alone to come get the pizza quick, saving money for a single mom in NOVA. I was very unhappy and explained my situation and why waiting another 15 mins was unacceptable. He seemed to be trying to discredit me in an attempt to calm me down, which didn't work. I had always been a happy customer and raved about them to everyone I meet about going here but told the man that I wouldn't be a satisfied customer, this was wrong, and I asked for some kind of compensation to make it right, that I wouldn't be back and would tell everyone I knew this story. He was not fazed and didn't care about losing my business, saying "there was nothing he could do". BS. I would have put all this behind me if he had covered the pizza. What made it worse was 5 high school girls giggling, doing nothing in the kitchen, in midriff shirts... while I waited, spiking my fever again, knowing my kids were at home alone for this. It's been a few months now since we moved to Stafford Courthouse. My wife and I usually do a "Pizza Dinner" night once a week and chose Sam's as our "go to". We usually order their "Buy 1 / Get 1" deal. Last week we ordered two pizzas and, when we got them, it was as if the delivery guy carried them sideways. The cheese pretty much sealed the boxes shut (I have pictures I will try posting). I called to just let them know and the woman was very friendly and offered us to re-fire the pizzas and deliver them as replacements. I appreciated the offer, but I asked her if we could just save one pizza for later and she said she'd note it on our account. We called this weekend to get it delivered and they told us we had to pay a minimum of $15 for them to deliver, or we could go pick it up ourselves. I said no thanks and ended the call. They were willing to deliver it free of charge the night your guy messed up, but not later? This place came recommended is Yelp reviews and Siri. The 25 min drive was certainly worth it as cost vs quality was fantastic. For under ten dollars, you can get a quality hot sub and fresh hot fries ( or chips) and enjoy the taste. They have a very large lunch menu, surprising for an Italian place. I had a hard time figuring out what to get. Their pizzas were buy one get one and I don't think I was quite ready for a full dinner plate. The parking is kinda shared with a gas station on a small multi business lot. Not too bad, but something to note. You can apparently get delivery, walkin right to the counter and takeout, or stay a while, watch some TV and sit at a table. The staff was friendly and I had no issue with the bill. If you dine in, your server handles all that for you. I definitely plan on recommending this place to others and plan on checking back in with a review on the pizzas. read more

Worth a try. Lots of choices on the menu, from pizza to subs to salads. Enjoyed a cheese pizza and a drink for $8. We also ate the greek salad with gyro meat for $10. Salad was good but nothing special, with ice berg lettuce and no greek dressing available (I chose balsamic vinaigrette). However gyro meat was very good, thick and grilled, not shaved. Service was friendly and quick, including refills of brewed iced tea. I was disappointed in their customer service on one point. They offer buy one get one free pizza for 12 inch and larger. They also offer a lunch special personal size (8 inch) and drink for $8. I didn't think I was that hungry, so ordered the lunch special. After eating it, I was still hungry, so asked if I could switch. For $12 I could have a 12 inch pizza and the 8 inch (already eaten) could be my free one. I'd have to pay for the drink. The waitress would not even consider letting me do this. I was disappointed, considering I would pay more and get less than what was offered on the menu. But here lately and probably around the time they updated the menu and raised the prices the food quality and taste has very much declined. It doesn't matter if it's delivery, dine-in, or carry out it's just not as good as it once was. The pizzas are lacking the toppings like they are trying to save money, I have even started ordering pizza with extra cheese just for it to look like it has cheese, the salads are sometimes lightly brown and wilted, the sandwiches are just as you would expect, a sandwich. Anything fried on the appetizer menu all tastes the same so it's all cooked in the same oil. I would recommend saving your money and order from Vinny's or Family Pizzeria. Fantastic! We were driving home from a long trip with only 3 hours to go after driving many hours over the last 2days. Walked in and watched the cook handle my food with his bare hands... wiped his hands on his pants, using his hands with no gloves to put the meat and veggies on the sandwich... This SAMs (next to the courthouse) is simply amazing. We stopped by for dinner last night and ordered pizza, steak salad, chili cheese fries, Philly cheese steak and shrimp wraps. The food was delicious, fresh and big portions for an excellent price. The food was served hot and fast. Great customer service and friendly staff especially the owner.
