Our sushi order What do you?
Michael D.

Went with my daughter as we were in the area. The sushi rolls were very good actually better than good. They were larger the other places I have been, the service was great. And of course she made me pay. I would come back to this place just because the sushi rolls were decently priced and as I said very good.

Sex Under Ground

I had lunch at Sam's Sushi in Pinellas Park and really enjoyed the experience. I ordered the Thai Spicy Basil with bell peppers, onions, scallions, and fresh basil leaves...full of flavor and just the right amount of heat. My lunch companion ordered the Sex Under Ground roll (tuna, salmon, avocado, mayo, cream cheese topped with yellowtail, tobiko, and sauce), which they really liked as well. Both orders came with a side salad. I did order a Chai Tea, which the waitress forgot until I reminded her, and it was much sweeter than I expected. Aside from that small hiccup, the service was quick and friendly. It's a great lunch spot with plenty of parking and fast turnaround, perfect if you're on a lunch break. Just keep in mind they close between 3-4 PM daily for their afternoon break. Overall, a solid spot for sushi and Thai dishes. I'd definitely return.

Sam's Sushi is always a great experience. fresh fish, clean presentation, and everything tasted high quality. The rolls were flavorful without being overcomplicated, and the service was quick and friendly.

Clear vegetable soup

Tried this neighborhood sushi joint on a Saturday at 7 PM. The place had plenty of tables open so we were sat immediately. The service was super fast and the restaurant was pretty clean. We started off with the egg rolls, which were OK. They just tasted like basic eggrolls. Then we tried the beef jerky, which was super good, but definitely order it with the sticky rice because it definitely needs some side with it. Then I had the clear soup which was a huge portion, but was very good. Definitely something to get when I'm sick next time. Then I have the hand roll which was super yummy and the monster roll, which was OK. I had the sauce on it that I didn't love and almost had too much imitation crab on top. My boyfriend then had a chicken dish which was super yummy. We definitely enjoyed our dinner here and will be back to try other menu options!

Kanisu
Dan H.

Don't let the name fool you, they have something for everyone & definitely not just sushi. This neighborhood, family owned sushi joint is amazing. It has a quaint & welcoming atmosphere for dine in & was a rotating door for take out throughout our dining experience and I can understand why! Our service was fantastic & the food was even better. For appetizers, we got the Gyoza & Kanisu (krab/avocado rolled in cucumber marinated in rice vinegar); two simple dishes that were out of this world! Seriously, I haven't stopped thinking about this kanisu. For entrees we got the Monster Roll - it took me forever to decide on which to get - and the chicken Katsu.

I've never been to a restaurant that serves both sushi and Thai food and I think this was my last time. Probably best to focus on one cuisine and do it well. Went around 2:20pm on a Monday and the place was pretty empty. The lunch menu looked interesting offering bento boxes, sushi, and Thai cuisine. I decided on the bento box of chicken pad Thai and 3 pieces of nigiri for $12.95. It comes with miso soup or salad and I chose miso soup. Hubby chose the sushi combo that came with 3 rolls: sushi bomb. D. J. and spicy tuna roll for $15.95. It also comes with miso soup or salad and he chose the salad. Very interesting I could see the steam from the miso soup but when I tasted it, it was lukewarm and tasted strange like an artificial taste. The chicken pad Thai was very disappointing as well. It literally tasted like just soy sauce and the chicken was dry. The nigiri was just ok. I expected the fish to be fresher, considering we were in Florida after all. Hubby's rolls were just ok as well. There is plenty of seating with tables and booths. Parking was very easy. Service was fine as well but the taste of the food is the most important factor for me so I probably wouldn't return here.

Salmon Deluxe Roll, Tuna Roll

Best and most consistent Sushi place in Pinellas county. I love the salmon deluxe roll very tasty and always fresh as well as the salmon carpaccio . I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a date night as well. The owners are great hosts as well and always show love.

A "shrimp tempura" roll without any shrimp. Just a mouthful of tempura.

We ordered the sexy roll and instead of shrimp tempura, they sent us just tempura flakes. So when we bit into the roll all we got was a mouth full of flakes. No actual shrimp and they tried to disguise it. We are disgusted. Disappointed in the flagrant deception.

Delicious date night dinner before the movies. Everything is fresh and full of flavor!

Salmon Deluxe Roll

I have been looking for a sushi place close to Pinellas Park and I have finally found it! I tried the salmon deluxe roll and it was very fresh and delicious. I am a sucker for crab rangoon as well and that also tasted great. The employees are very friendly and helpful with selecting something off of the menu.

First, this place is open Sunday!!! Woot! It's located in the shopping center near Cold Stone and outdoor academy. At first, this place was empty, but with us, more people trickled in. It was Superbowl Sunday. There were two huge screens to watch the game. We started with Thai tea, warm sake, tuna tataki and shrimp dumplings. All tasted really good. The tuna came with this amazing ponzu citrus sauce that was magical. We then ordered 3 specially rolls. I do not recall which, but they were fresh, delicious and on point. The service was good and the food, even better. I'll be back to this place!

TL;DR: this place was great for takeout and I'm excited to order again! My fiancé and I ordered from here on Valentine's Day. We ordered through Uber Eats. Between order & delivery, it took about 45-minutes to arrive. The food came hot and happy to say was VERY delicious. I ordered the veggie Pad See Ew & spring rolls. The noodles were thinner than traditional Pad See Ew I've had, which was interesting. But the flavor was very good. I really enjoyed their spring rolls as well. My fiancé ordered their Red Curry and asked for suicidal spice and he said it wasn't overly hot. So he was a little disappointed as he expected it to be much hotter. All and all, we were both pleased with the meal and look forward to our next one from there.

Food is amazing! Love the ambiance and service is excellent! Definitely will come back soon!

That said, all of their sushi looked incredible and they come here all the time because they love it all, especially the out of this world roll and the perpetual love roll, which I think they got like 8 of between the 3 of them. They even finished off with dessert like fried cheesecake and fried Oreos. I had unagi sushi, ahi tuna nigiri, a yellowtail roll, and some miso soup. I thought the fish was great! Definitely would come back. I wish I tried one of the specialty rolls but wasn't hungry enough this time. Keep in mind if you're at a table with AYCE but you're not participating, you can't munch off their food. The value for the AYCE price is pretty fantastic though, if you're planning to order 3+ rolls or 2 and a couple apps!

Some sushi items still lean a little heavy on the rice, but you can easily balance that out by ordering sashimi instead. They have also expanded the menu quite a bit recently, which was a pleasant surprise. The standout addition for me is the sea scallop. It is seriously good and has become one of my favorite things to order here. I usually end up getting several portions of it. They also added amaebi sweet shrimp, though the pieces are a little on the smaller side. Other additions worth mentioning are the crab rangoon, which I definitely recommend, along with torched salmon and a coconut shrimp specialty roll. Overall, I am really enjoying the newer fish cuts and expanded add on selections. In my opinion, it is a tremendous upgrade from where they were before. Overall ambiance remains the same, but there's no need to change anything there as the food and service speaks for itself.

No need to go into how many I had :) and it was not vodka but it was good! We started with the miso soup and ginger salad. Soup was delicious. The salad had a variety of greens and was a welcomed change from iceberg salads of many a Japanese restaurant . We then moved onto salmon sashimi. It was fresh and delicious. There were three generous pieces to the order. Then we had the hand rolls/tacos. Kelsey got them from "the other side" of the restaurant because they weren't in the lounge menu and I asked about them. They were small but shockingly filling. Loved them. I got the salmon ponzu and my friend got the spicy salmon. We both loved what we got. Then we got the scallop w/caviar. She asked about wanted nigiri versus sashimi and we opted for no rice. It was amazing. I highly recommend. Then we did the district roll and the dragon roll, both were great and different. I forgot to mention I am not a spicy fan and that the spicy could be in the side. Otherwise perfect. We ended with the Peking duck roll. Also delicious! But we were stuffed by this point. Marisol, the chef, was very creative in her presentation. Every dish was a work of art. The toasted was a bit under flavored and felt like it was missing something (not their fault we asked for it toasted). We also had the carnitas bao buns which were a delightful treat. The salmon lover roll was absolutely delicious as well had a nice fruity flavor along with it. And lastly, we originally came for the hand rolls (which are no longer on the menu) but they made an exception for us and they were phenomenal. Overall, would come back only 4 stars because everything began coming out at the same time and didn't have a pace to it.. cozy fun vibe! PS.. Our waiter Gabriel was only his second day and he was absolutely amazing and knowledgeable!

The Krab Rangoons really stood out to me as those are a dish everyone loves and wants to order at each place and they do theirs spring roll style so you get a bite of everything in every single bite - it's not all in the middle or barely filled. The Thai teas blew us away. We couldn't get enough. The rolls WOWWW was so hard to decide but our server, Kyle hooked it up with the recs. It makes a huge difference. A quick heads up though, this level of quality takes time. If you are in a rush, this might not be your spot. Nickel City Sushi in Pinellas Park was honestly just meh. They cannot even get the rice right. It tasted like typical Vietnamese rice with little to no rice vinegar and it was dry. That alone sets the tone for the rest of the meal. My friends originally told me to check out the buy one get one roll deal during happy hour. I guess I waited too long because now it is simply two rolls for twelve dollars, which is only a small two dollar savings. The shrimp tempura roll was fried nicely and still crispy, so that was a plus. The salmon tuna roll was fine, nothing special. A little avocado or cucumber would go a long way in adding texture and flavor. I did like that the rolls came in eight pieces instead of the usual six. They sprinkle a tiny bit of masago and sesame seeds on the outside of the rolls. That should really only be mentioned on the menu for allergy reasons because the amount is so small. Yet they list it like it is some kind of bonus, which is a stretch. We also ordered the fried egg rolls, which came out piping hot, but they were small and skimpy at two for five dollars. The wrapper was too thick and the inside was too dry. I know several places that offer three large egg rolls for the same price. For an old school looking bar, they have a decent sized parking lot and ample amount of tv's if you want to see some sports. They have a few pool tables, variety of arcade and slots, along with a ton of dart boards (both traditional and electronic). Its a low key vibe of old locals for the most part. So far, I am not overly impressed with the food. I might consider coming back to try some of their other dishes like pho. Prices are not too bad, the service was quick and friendly, and the drinks were crazy cheap. If I do end up returning, it would probably be for the cheap beer more than anything else.
