I have been eating Thai food for over 30 years and this little place has some of the best food around. I highly recommend it to everyone.

We were randomly picking this place to have dinner. The shop itself was small, but very cozy. They're decorating the shop with Valentines theme now which is cute. Our food orders: - Tomyum wings. It's a big "YUCK", the wings were fresh, however, not so good on seasoning. They just put some Tomyum spice on the top of the wings and the meat inside was extremely bland. Also, no dipping sauce provided. - Tear tiger salad. We thought it would come with some grilled beef, however, it came out with some kind of stir fried beef. It's an okay dish, but too salty for my taste. - Larb salmon. We also thought it would come with salmon sashimi, however, it came out with fried filet salmon. This one is actually on us because we didn't double check with the waitress. Not the dish we expected, not so impressed. Kao soi duck. The only star of the night. Tasted amazing, we regret that we didn't order 2 kao soi instead. We might come back just to get it. Gotta make it 3 stars because 3 out 4 dishes that we ordered were not so good, especially the wings. Our waitress was very nice. read more

I tried the lunch pad Thai with chicken and it was delicious. It came with 1 little spring roll, a little side salad (already dressed) and a smaller portion of their pad Thai. I ate it all because it was so yummy, but it was a very generous portion and could have been broken into 2 meals. The side salad had a tasty dressing on it already. Maybe a poppy vinaigrette? The Pad Thai was very tasty, maybe a tad on the salty side, but i was ok with that. My noodles were sitting in a pool of sauce that wasn't necessary. A bit less sauce may eliminate some salt which would probably appeal to more people. I'm particular with my Pad Thai and it's been really hard to find a good spot for it, but this is the best I've had in the Tampa Bay area. I think my total was just under $13. read more

We ordered the pad Thai, chicken satay and tom kha soup and were happy with all three options. The tom kha soup was sweeter than what we are used to, and it was enjoyable. The satay chicken was very good as were the dipping sauces that came with them, while the pad Thai was a huge portion and the flavors were enjoyable. Been seeing pictures of the food from this place on one of the groups I'm in and since we were driving by, we decided to stopped by for dinner. We sat ourselves with no problems. There was a huge party next to us so it was a bit loud but that's not the restaurant's fault. Servers were very attentive despite the big party. There was some waiting on the food but nothing insane. My fiancé got the Panang pork ribs , the meat was super tender, it was definitely Thai spicy tho. I got Basil chicken, a lot milder but still a lil spice. There is a new owner in town on Kao Thai, and we wish her well. We always went when Pla owned this place. She cooked in traditional Southern Thai style and taste. It was rich and spicy with a bit of sweetness coming from the region of Thailan where she lived. Even her family cooked with her. It was wonderful. We went back yesterday and it was different. The same recipes from the same region but with a new style and flavor. It was a bit sweeter than before. Also a different taste overall. It was missing the spark of Pla and her way of cooking. The prices are the same. The options are all there. The team works and helps. It was a good place for a quick bite. In the past I would always go back and talk with Pla for her suggestions. This is probably my 6th visit over the years. The food is outstanding but the service is sometimes hit or miss. Tonight our group ordered Pad Thai wings, beef pad Thai, miso soup, and beef massaman curry. All were a 10/10 easily. Tonight was a miss night for service. We were brought 2 cokes even though we ordered 1 coke and a sangria. We never got a refill or received water and waited awhile to get our check. There's Thai food and there's Kao Thai's Thai food...light-years better! I started with the Tom Kha (shrimp soup) That was an awesome choice. Silky coconut broth intermingled with just the right amount of spice (medium hot for me), loaded with big, fat, plump shrimp, basil, onions and ginger...all perfectly balanced. (I added diced baby Chinese eggplant to mine and they were coked to perfection. Yummy! I then had the main event: Pad Makhue (baby eggplant) Eggplants stir-fried with house sauce, basil bell peppers and onions) Again, medium spice and it was perfect. Having had Thai food around the world, including in Thailand, I wasn't sure how Kao Thai would rate. Thgey are outstanding and the prices are reasonable. The food came in satisfying portions & was delicious! Both the exterior & interior were clean, and I thought it was really pretty inside. I only went in to pickup my food, which was already bagged. The service was fast because I hadn't long ordered through their website, which was laid out nicely, with photos for every entree. The ordering process was smooth & easy. When I went in, I was greeted immediately, the staff was attentive & very kind. There was a coziness to the restaurant, but not cramped, the lighting was relaxed without being dim. I almost regretted not dining in because there was just a really nice vibe, but I definitely will, soon. I think this would probably be a nice place to take a date. I need not to forget about this Thai restaurant. It was so good. I'm still remembering how much I loved it there. I feel like they definitely have different menu options compared to the usual traditional Thai dishes you see everywhere. I ordered a chicken tom kha soup, shrimp in a pot and my hubby ordered the Thai fried chicken here. Seriously so many unique flavors from this food. I debated giving them 2 or 3 stars in my amended review, but decided on 3 because it didn't stink - it just wasn't up to the 5 (+ if I could have) stars from our previous experiences. Upon walking in I noticed 3 glaring things: 1.) The humidity inside the place hit me right away - like there was a back door open, the air wasn't set to whatever was the norm before - which was comfortable, or the a/c was broken altogether. 2.) The music was LOUD. I mean before the ambiance was peaceful. This was not. Even my seat mate commented on it. 3.) The tables were all askew, when before it was pristine. One of the things I appreciated was the cleanliness and attention to detail. I mean come on... what restaurant doesn't push the chairs back under the table after they wipe everything down? And none of the normal 'condiments' were on the table, as was the norm. When we were placing out order I could tell immediately the gentleman did not know their menu. AT ALL. We had to repeat all our choices 2 and 3 times and he had to consult the menu we were looking at each time. By way of confirming everything I'd noticed right away, he told us the restaurant was under new management. Ah. That explains things. But as they were working off the same exact menu, I gave the benefit of the doubt that my order would be right. It definitely was NOT Thai hot as I had requested. One of my seatmates orders wasn't even Thai hot adjacent, and he likes his food to the same level I do. Our third seatmate didn't get the correct order at all - completely wrong dish, but it was something he had briefly thought about ordering so he said nothing and ate and enjoyed it. It just wasn't right. Our normal sushi order, the Volcano Roll was half the size it had been all those other times, and it wasn't rolled as tightly or cut as uniformly, which was disappointing as our table of 3 was splitting it, as well as a Tampa Roll, which had the same issues. I couldn't eat any of it because even though I said no sesame seeds, because I can't eat them (I have diverticulitis, not an allergy or dislike of sesame), there were seeds all over both rolls. But again, I had a whole meal to eat so it wasn't worth complaining over. We live nearly 20 miles away, so this is a haul for us to go to this restaurant, when we must pass 30 other ones on our way to this one. But we always made the trek a couple of times a month, on occasion, every week! We won't be doing that again. We may stop at it again if we're in the area and are hungry for Thai - we just won't go out of our way for it. Such a bummer. read more

Let's talk ga prow , Thai basil, fish sauce and a subtle sweetness. I loved the Thai spicy level , it was just borderline too hot but that's where spice lovers draw the line, the initial bites were very hot but I got used to it as I ate. My companion and I have been to this restaurant nearly a year ago. We decided to return and try the Tom Kha Gai and garden rolls (aka Summer Rolls aka Spring Rolls). The waitress greeted us as we walked in and we were immediately seated. The restaurant was fairly empty and the service was prompt. The restaurant was fairly quiet with light, jazz music playing in the background. Very easy to communicate and the tables were not too tight. We ordered two cups of the Tom Kha, which was the whole point of going. If a Thai restaurant does a good Tom Kha you're usually gonna have a good meal. The Tom Kha was creamy and had the right amount of lemongrass and Galangal. Very good. The garden rolls were interesting, but very tasty. For starters, they did not have the vermicelli and it came sliced, almost like sushi. The greens inside coupled with the shrimp and peanut sauce was very good. In fact, when we next make these at home, we may leave out the vermicelli. We split the monster roll as our appetizer. The fish was fresh as was the crab. The shrimp was lightly fried. We are planning on coming back again to try some of the other items on the menu that looked as good. read more

This place was the best of Thai in the area... I couldn't get over the cute ambiance of the restaurant decor and such. It was too cute to believe the food would be great as well. I was soooo wrong to think that because the food was super delicious and I was impressed by how many I have tried in the area, about 12 other places where very outdated or not upto par on freshness. I would definitely come back here many times. I recommend this place to anyone looking for a super clean Thai fusion restaurant and friendly service. It's a small quaint secret spot. Went here for dinner with a friend. Found the food to be quite disappointing. We started with the Summer Roll to share. What a disappointment. It was basically just lettuces wrapped up with a few carrot shreds. It came with a spicy peanut sauce, but for $5.95 it was not good. No noodles, nothing Thai about it. My friend had the pad Thai with shrimp and I had the glass noodle stir fry. Both came with sauces that were sweet. We ate about half and left the rest. Cute dinner spot for some decent Thai. Their menu has a great variety of dishes however, felt that it was overpriced for the portions and missing certain flavors that are typical of Thai dishes (fish sauce, spice levels, sour/sweet components). Tiger salad - good but missing the sour component of the typical Thai salad. Very small portion for $15. Mussel pancake - fried perfectly however, nothing special. There were like 3 mussels in the pancake (chopped into little pieces). Pad Thai - very saucy, overly sweet and had a few pieces of frozen squid rings in there. Would not recommend. Pad kee - one of the better dishes, good char flavor and received a decent amount of shrimp. Mango sticky rice and taro Pearl in coconut milk - very good but portions were tiny. Also they did not have the spice rack that most authentic Thai restaurants offer. Did not have fish sauce when we asked for some. Good but not worth the drive over the bridge to St Pete. read more

Tried Kao Thai Kitchen because we were craving Thai food. I got the Pad Thai Chicken and my bf got the Pad Ma Khua. The Pad Thai was flavorful, however I asked for medium heat and it wasn't spicy at all. The Pad Ma Khua is an eggplant dish with bell peppers. My bf asked for Thai spicy and his dish wasn't spicy either! Not sure if Kao Thai doesn't do spicy at all? We got the Mango Sticky Rice for dessert. I don't see this on a lot of Thai menus, but this dessert was certainly fresh! The mangos were very sweet. They used black/purple rice which were a great glutinous pairing! read more

Solid Thai food close to the beach. Four of us went to dinner on a Friday night. They were pretty busy, but no line, and we had a reservation. But they only had one server working. When we asked why only one server they said that they did not expect to be so busy and that they were surprised at how busy it became. It surprised me that they didn't think they would be busy on a Friday night. But with so many positive reviews, I wasn't too concerned. The food was good. We started with salad rolls that were a bit dry (perhaps sitting in the refrigerator too long?) but the peanut sauce was delicious and made up for the lack of moisture in the roll. We also had an order of fried calamari. It was disappointing to see the small portion size. Most of the rings were well cooked, but some were over cooked and a bit rubbery. The sauce was just ok. We shared the beef massaman curry and chicken pad see ewe. The curry was delicious, but a little light on meat and veggies. The pad see ewe was also tasty, but the noodles had been overcooked and were a bit mushy. It tasted more like what you would get when you open a take out container when you get home and not like something fresh out of the pan. Tasty, but a little mushy. Not great, it tasted like they don't know what Thai food tastes like, the flavor was weird and all over the place. I ordered on Uber eats so and hopefully they're better in person. The Tom yum tasted really sweet (why???) and had zero balance in flavor (no salty, sour, spicy). I couldn't do more than a few bites, it was just bad. The pad see ew was okay and I enjoyed the slight char on the noodles (which is usually a plus, it adds a lot texturally to the dish). I also got tom kha which had chicken that was very tender, but again, the flavor was not at all the flavor of tom kha. If you want an interesting take on Thai food, this is it. But if you go into a meal here with the expectation that the dishes will resemble what they're supposed to, just be prepared for a different experience. read more

DINING AREA plenty of seating (tables and booths) with modern farmhouse/asian blended decor PARKING shared lot with other businesses, but 95% of the time, you will be able to find a spot OVERALL i've been to this place once before moving to tampa and i remembered the food being absolutely delicious and authentic. now that I've moved back to st. pete, i had to come back and try it out again. their lunch entree specials are great portions and come with a salad and a fried veggie roll -- and if you get any entree that doesn't have noodles, you also get some jasmine rice. my go-to is always pad see aiw which is a stir fried rice noodle. the way that its made here is just perfectly delicious and as authentic as it can get. the noodles aren't coated in oil like other places and you can really taste the charred-ness from the wok. my photo doesn't do the dish justice and it didn't help that i ate it before snapping the pic. i can't recommend this place enough. come here during lunch and try their specials out and have a glass of thai tea, too! read more

Order some Uber eats for the hotel from this place, I saw the great reviews and it was a top eats so I gave it a try. I got the chicken pad tai, which was amazing, cooked really well, packed full of flavor and you get large portion. I also got their French fries which had their seasoning and their own dip. Fries were cooked super well, the seasoning was great, it was tangy but a little spicy, and then the sauce was slightly spicy but really flavorful. I got a soup and a sushi roll, brother were fantastic. Overall, the food was fantastic, it travelled really well for delivery and came fresh. Worth a try! read more
