Number 27
Maricarmen C.

Stopped by this place during a roadtrip and everything was amazing. The service was great. We were immediately greeted and guided towards the menus. I tried number 27 which includes avocado, turkey, bacon, and cheese. It was delicious! We also tried their number 9 with dry salami and cheese. There are a few tables inside and outside to eat there which was perfect. The parking lot is somewhat small, and can be tricky to get out of.

Simply delicious and always fresh. Sam's To Go on the Mesa is a quick and each deli in your backyard. I've been coming here for years and always greeted with a smiling face. Typical cold and hot sandwich options for take away to the beach or staying on your break. I like the medium #13 (Dry Salami, Bologna, Ham, Capicola & Martadella (w/ Italian Provolone Cheese)) $13.50. Good size to enjoy 1/2 now and later! Don't bother with a national chain. Sped your time and money locally at Sam's To Go on the Mesa.

Friendly service with simple but wholesome ingredients make a wonderful combination for the perfect lunch experience. The owner came all the way out to bring some tasty turkey bits for our dog. They allow dogs inside the restaurant too! My son and I loved our sandwiches. My pastrami sandwich brought back good memories when my parents had a sandwich shop in Long Beach decades ago. This is the best example of a great mom and pop shop that serves the local community with love.

Best sandwich ever! We stopped here while visiting Santa Barbara and I still think about it all the time. The owner was so friendly and welcoming too. Definitely a must stop if you're in town.

Location: Across the street from Lazy Acres. Same plaza as Mesa Burger and Blenders. They also have other sandwich shops in IV, Goleta, and on Milpas Street Parking: Potentially challenging depending on the time. Spots are tight and limited Ambiance: Simple and casual, nothing fancy Seating: A few tables/booths inside with two more tables outside Menu: 1/2 foot, ¾ foot, 2 feet subs. They have about 30 cold, hot, and vegetarian combinations. Customizations are decent, you can choose your preferred bread (white, wheat, lettuce wrap, spinach tortilla) and cheese (cheddar, pepper jack, Swiss, American, provolone). They also sell add-ons like avocado, extra meat, extra cheese, drinks, and sides. Extra long sandwiches (4-6 feet) require advance notice. Food: I usually order Avocado, Turkey, Cheese on white. Each sandwich comes with fresh lettuce, tomatoes, and onions. Black pepper, mustard and mayonnaise add much needed flavor. Very generous with the slabs of turkey meat. Avocado amount is adequate, and the provolone is tasty. Price: Average. They aren't immune to inflation, I remember a medium sub was $7.25 for many years prior to March 2020. Now it's $11.75 today! For me it's still somewhat reasonable because half a sandwich is enough for a light lunch and I can eat the other later. Verdict: Sam's To Go is the way to go for a relatively healthy meal!

#14 Veggie sandwich

Sam's to go is the place for a sandwich been going there for 10+ years still reasonable prices, fresh bread and fresh meats and husband and wife working together making sandwiches.

The #27 Avocado, Turkey, Bacon, and Cheese is my go-to! It's absolutely delicious--such a simple yet tasty sandwich, and it's always consistently great!

You can get new tires next door, but while you're waiting, you can catch breakfast or lunch. Outdoors, there's a lot of seating. Wooden tables and wicker chairs. Awnings and large umbrella coverings. You pay first, and then they seat you. There's some seating indoors, but it's limited, compared to outdoors. I ordered a latte ($5.50) and avocado toast ($16). They add a 3% surcharge if you use a credit card. There is a window for to-go orders, but if you're dining in, you place your order with the gal at the podium. I have to say, although there were two staff working on drinks, my latte took a while. Luckily, it came before the food. There was a staff member waiting at the counter and delivering just drinks. Once I got my latte, it tasted good. Strong. I felt the caffeine. The avocado toast was good, too. It was served in a shallow metal dish. Thick, high quality, Artisan bread. I enjoyed the toasted pumpkin seeds. I would definitely order it again, but open to ordering something else on the menu next time. Staff are friendly, welcoming, and efficient. There was another gentleman standing in the back, immediately clearing tables. It's better if you come earlier on the weekends. There was a line of people when I was leaving. There's plenty of free street parking. I parked across the street.

Those recommendations gave us an easy place to start, and neither dish disappointed. We were seated on the outdoor patio beneath the trees, surrounded by greenery and warm string lights. It felt comfortable and intimate, especially as evening settled in. This would be a great setting for a date night, dinner with friends, or anyone who prefers a lively restaurant without sacrificing conversation. A generous bowl of seasoned popcorn arrived first and disappeared quickly. It was crisp, savory, and a fun alternative to the usual bread basket. We ordered several rounds of the West Coast oysters, served ice cold with lemongrass and Thai chili granita. They were fresh and briny, with enough brightness and subtle heat from the granita to complement them without overpowering their natural flavor. Oyster lovers should put these at the top of the order. The fried chicken was another standout. The crust was deeply crisp while the chicken remained juicy, and the creamy grits underneath made it especially satisfying. Scallions and plenty of house-made pickles brought freshness and acidity to the plate, balancing the richer elements. This is a substantial dish and an ideal one to share. The menu lends itself well to ordering a few plates for the table, which worked perfectly for us. We paired dinner with wine and appreciated being able to take our time rather than feeling rushed through the meal. The Lark delivered exactly what we wanted from a Santa Barbara dinner: excellent oysters, a fried chicken dish worth sharing, an inviting patio, and a relaxed evening over good food and wine. I would gladly order both dishes again.

Server walking back and forth till we pulled him to our table to take our order, mind you the place was empty (now I know why!). He takes it from in front of me and leaves without a word. I wait and wait, eventually ask if my food is still coming, did he place the wrong order? "Yeah, your food is coming, yes wrong order". There was no "sorry if this isn't your order, there was a mixup" or something, ANYTHING. Food eventually comes, suddenly we have a different server, again no explanation. Food is mid at best. We did the Foodie Stroll & Dinner experience, which included a trip to the farmers market with the chef, Vick. Vick was a pleasure to spend time with--personable, knowledgeable, and genuinely engaging. We had a great time at the market with him and then enjoyed exploring it on our own afterward. When we arrived at the restaurant, our table was ready and beautifully set with rose petals to mark the occasion. The staff was attentive, helpful, and professional--always aware of when we needed something, but never intrusive. My wife ordered the Salade Lyonnaise, Juniper & Rosemary Venison, and Lemon-Berry Upside Down Cake. I had the Forest Mushroom Ragout, Braised Kurobuta Pork Flank, and finished with the Chocolate Molten Lava Cake. Every bite was excellent. My wife raved about the venison, and my pork flank was incredibly tender in a rich, flavorful sauce--the meat practically fell apart. Portions were generous; we couldn't finish everything, though we tried. Each course was paired with a different wine, and every pairing was spot-on. One especially thoughtful touch was that they presented us with custom 25th anniversary menus that we created with the chef. The menus highlighted our anniversary and listed the exact dishes we ordered--it was a really nice keepsake and made the evening feel even more special. All of this was done during a packed service, with only four people in the kitchen, which made the experience even more impressive. Thank you to Vick and the entire team for making our anniversary truly memorable.
