We visited Farmer Boy for the first time on Memorial Day, 05/25/2026. We joined the Yelp Wait List about 5 minutes prior to arrival, and we loved how we could see our place on the list. It was only about an additional 10 minutes once we arrived and checked in with the host. We were seated at the counter. This certainly reminds you of an old style greasy spoon diner -- and everything was spot on. Our server at the counter area was very pleasant, sweet, kind and ready to assist in any way needed. I had the chicken fried steak, and I subbed the eggs for fruit, which was very kind of them to do for me. My Husband had the Santa Barbara Local scramble. We enjoyed everything we had. This is a small little diner that we came up on by just passing by. It was worth the stop! I ordered chicken fried steak with hashbrowns and a biscuit. The chicken fried steak was perfect, crunchy outside with great flavored gravy and the biscuit was buttery and melted in my mouth. The staff were all so friendly and inviting. read more

This is a older crowd local place that puts out a breakfast with zero flavor. No butter no oil no flavor. Eggs are dry, bacon dry, toast dry. If that's your thing then you will love this place. If you want more flavor in your food this is not for you. Worst than the food is the atmosphere. Frantic employees that everything is like running from a fire. Still wearing masks and yelling. Spacious, cute, quick service - they seem to have their ducks in a row. Food was delicious! The fresh squeezed orange juice is a must! Their omelettes aren't too dry, I'd recommend their home potatoes over their hash browns but both are good. The price tag is something I haven't seen in a long time - very good value for what they give you, and the servers are friendly! I'd recommend sitting at the bar where all the action is. I came for breakfast this morning with my family. We were told 15 minutes at first and then they added another 20 minutes to our wait time. All the while they let some white people in first ahead of us, when he had clearly shown up first. This is a blatant use of white privilege and discrimination. It's repugnant behavior on the restaurants part. I'm absolutely disgusted. But not surprised, given the vibe I get from this place every time I come in. The hostess had the audacity to go up to group of whites and whisper in their ear something and then they magically got sat down. It is now 10:05AM so management better investigate or do something about this repugnant situation. 0 stars. read more

We arrived and sat in a booth, excited to look at the menu. It was my first time visiting Farmer Boy. My friend and I ordered omelettes with hash browns and it came with a a pancake too! My hash browns were cooked nice and toasty (my favorite). Everything was delicious, service was great, we stayed talking awhile after and no one was rushing us to leave. Food is awesome. The staff was amazing and there recommendations were on point I don't usually leave reviews but this needed to be done.

Sat at the counter. Was ready to order and the counter waiter passed by me multiple times without taking not order. He started stocking cups and then a couple came in and asked him to clean off a table. He agrees and left the counter area and still hadn't taken my order and I arrived before this couple even entered the restaurant. A waitress from another section noticed I was trying to order and took my order. This was a negative first impression. I ordered the Santa Barbara local - opted for an omelet, hash browns and pancakes. It took 15 minutes for my order to arrive. Total wait 25 minutes. I liked my food! Hash browns cooked just right, fresh avocado, omelet was really tasty with lots of yummy crumbled bacon mixed with green salsa and diced tomatoes. The omelet was cooked in a lot of hot oil as you can see bubbles in the egg if you look at the photo closely I uploaded. Not the best way for omelet prep. It could have been better. However, I rather it be like this than undercooked. Pancake was good (a bit gummy in texture). I did find some egg shell in my pancake and a piece of some leafy green was under my pancake. I will try the biscuit next time. Best breakfast I have had out in California in years. Price with tip was around 18 dollars. Lively atmosphere. Quite busy at 9am on a weekday. Because I liked the food and the waitress step in, I will return and I recommend this place. I will just avoid the one inattentive waiter when I return. read more

The food and atmosphere were fine, until a large cockroach crawled across the bar. I pointed it out to our server, and he brushed it away with his bare hands and immediately continued serving without washing them. That is completely unacceptable and absolutely disgusting. At that point, any sense of cleanliness or food safety was gone. The manager did come over and apologize, but the situation speaks for itself. We refused to pay and left. This isn't a small issue, it's a serious sanitation failure. If a cockroach is visible in the dining area, it raises major concerns about the overall condition of the restaurant. This place is in clear need of proper pest control and a thorough health inspection. read more

Stumbled across this place while we were staying in Santa Barbara. Was out looking for chicken fried steak and this place delivered. Their sausage gravy was on point. We knew nothing about their cinnamon rolls, but on the way in, several people have them being carted out to their tables. He asked about them and the server said they are to die for... So we ordered it with our meal... And they were to die for! I'd say on par with Cinnabon. Unfortunately, I didn't take any photos because we were living in the moment. I will tell you, though, they didn't have to do dishes after we were done because we cleaned every speck of food off their plates. It was my first time here with friends on our way to camp at Morro Bay. We were seated right away and ordered what we wanted. The food came within 10-15 mins which was good considering it was packed. If you're looking for amazing food with a diner feel, Farmer Boy is for you! We came on a Sunday morning and we were able to be seated within 15 minutes! The service here is amazing as the staff were quick, kind, and friendly! We ordered the Pozole Verde with grilled chicken which was so delicious and flavorful along with the Farmer Boy Classic! The bacon was cooked to perfection and the home fries were absolutely the best! Highly recommend both items, especially the pozole. Such a fun restaurant. Built in 1958, it's been around for awhile and has been a staple of SB that I finally just got to try. The smoked salmon Benedict, huevos rancheros and the 2 egg in one hole sandwich was delish! Found out it's a brophy bros same owner so ask for their clam chowder and fish/chips! From the moment we walked in the door the staff was very welcoming and eager to serve. We chose to be seated at the counter because most seats were filled. (A good sign). Right away they brought our beverages and our waitress made recommendations for breakfast. All the servers were friendly and attentive. We made our choices and the food arrived quickly. They were quick with refills and checked to make sure we were happy with our choices. The restaurant was very clean and we both noted the young man who was bussing tables was super friendly and was quick to ready the tables for the next guests. This place is a classic breakfast joint that has been open for nearly 70 years. They have a counter section as well as booth and table seating. I had the two-eyed toad in a hole sandwich and bottomless drip coffee. The coffee was fine, but the sandwich was delicious. Perfectly runny yolks and quality ingredients. The service was excellent. They were quick to take our order and I could hardly finish half a cup of a coffee before they offered more. The only reason this isn't a 5-star is, because there was no ham in my dad's omelette. Apparently the waitress misheard his order, but to her credit she quickly had a side of ham prepared by the kitchen to make up for it. read more

Found this place in yelp- was happy to see a waitlist - was easy enough to get on the waitlist - we were seated pretty quickly. Cute decor inside and beautiful photos in the walls. Service continued to be friendly and fast. The tea was great- I love unsweetened tea if it's made right and these guys know how to do it. You heat and I ordered the ham steak with biscuits- so delicious. Older son ordered the Benedict and said it was good- must have been because he ate it all. It had been a minute since I had been to Farmer Boy, but it was as delicious as I remember! I went there for my birthday breakfast and shared a cinnamon roll and got the chicken and waffles. To make a suggestion to add a little spice to your chicken & waffles add in some hot sauce of your liking to the syrup & OMG even more delicious!! The ambiance is always great! The food is excellent, the prices are extremely fair, and the service is some of the best I've experienced anywhere in town. I've been here when it's packed and when it's quiet, and the service never slips. Jessica is always pleasant, smiling, attentive, and observant. Robert is everywhere at once in the best way possible -- refilling drinks, setting and clearing tables, opening the door for guests, and keeping everything running smoothly without missing a beat. He has such a genuinely pleasant demeanor. When I told him I thought he did a great job, he smiled and said, "Thank you -- I do it for you guys!" That pretty much sums up the spirit of this place. And the food? Consistently excellent. I'm very picky about how my eggs are cooked, and I've never once had to send them back -- they actually understand over medium here, which is rare and much appreciated. If I had one wish, it would be that they were open for dinner. Until then, Farmer Boy remains an absolute go-to for breakfast done right. read more
