We reiterated that we had a Hibachi reservation for 4 at 6:00. They showed us our reservation in the book! Let them know it was my 9 year old son's Birthday dinner. Absolutely abysmal service. First I got yelled at when I called in an order ahead of time for calling an order with tuna in it the "classic tuna hand roll" instead of just "classic hand roll". Then I got there, waited at an empty front desk for 15 minutes (at 6pm) for the hostess, who tells me they forgot to click "complete" on my order electronically so I'd have to wait another 15 minutes for my order. Update - 01/2023 So, since my last review, the place has been renovated and the sushi quality has really improved. The birthday picture wall is gone. Sad, but the place looks so much better. It has a cool new vibe with colored LED lighting throughout. The place feels newer, cleaner, and more modern. The hibachi still tastes great and now this is a "go to" sushi place for us where more advanced sushi, like toro and Ikura, are recommended. There is also outdoor seating, which is nice. Parking is still in back if you don't find a place in front on the street. On weekends and holidays, the place can get busy at peak times, especially at the hibachis, so make reservations. They also have an online app for ordering if you prefer delivery or pickup. Service is always friendly and accommodating. Remember to tip well. read more

We came to the restaurant over the weekend with our full family to celebrate our young daughter's birthday. The food was good and the hibachi chef was fine. But the service was horrible and they just tried to rush us out of there as fast as they could. The waitress kept coming over and asking "are you done?" and "give me that empty plate". And when we were finishing up but not yet done, she just brought over a stack of clean plates and put them in front of us, just to send the message that we need to leave, even though we were there less than 1.5 hours total. Update we've been ordering during Covid and the sushi is excellent. 4 stars. The service is good and the price is good. We have ordered about three times and have not been disappointed. I gave them another star. So good. Old review giving Samurai 3 stars, but all I had was the hibachi. I'll try the sushi and if it's good bill give them another star. Our friend had a party there and the service was great. The hibachi was good, and the chef put on a good show. They were very accommodating. Delicious sushi appetizer portions though are smaller than in past and it's more expensive. Haven't had a meal there in a while just getting usual honey moon appetizer which is always good sushi on the other hand is hit or miss so I rather not to miss and stick with what I know. Just know that if u order on yelp it's even more expensive, there is extra fee on customer and the restaurant. This place was a perfect stop for lunch. They have set up an inviting outdoor dining area, shaded and not. We were warmly greeted by our waitress. We ordered a refreshing cold Saki to start our meal. I ordered the sashimi lunch which comes with soup, salad and one additional roll of your choice off lunch menu, got my fav tempura shrimp roll. My husband ordered the two roll lunch which also comes with soup and salad. He ordered a spicy tuna and eel avocado rolls! Everything was great! Not bad at all. It would be awesome if they had a few more vegan options. Plan on the most basic of rolls and plain steamed vegetables (sometimes this is AOK with me. I had been indulging all weekend long). My order: Buddha roll (peanut/avocado): excellent as the avocado was perfectly ripe. Vegetarian California roll (avo/cuc/asparagus): basic, AOK Steamed veggies with a side of brown rice and ginger sauce: the veggies were perfectly cooked, steamed with a little bit of crisp + they retained their bright colors. That ginger sauce, though... not my thing. It just tasted sweet and otherwise flavorless. The place was very busy on a Monday night, and tons of screaming children. I of course don't fault the restaurant for this, but if and when I go back, it would be after 8:30 pm. Clearly it's a kid-friendly place with that middle Hibachi room. Not my jam. Luckily they have two other rooms and the Hibachi is just the most crowded. Our waitress was handling a LOT on her own. My second roll was forgotten, but she was on it. When I go out to dinner, I don't really love having to hunt a waitress down, no matter how hard she's working and how much she has to handle. They clearly need to put more waitresses on. Verdict: I think I'd like this place a lot more if it were less crowded. Also, unless I'm dying for a plain plate of steamed veggies, I'd just stick to the sushi rolls. read more

One of Croton's best restaurants. I have simply never had a bad meal in over 10 years of dining here. The Hibachi chefs are good fun and serve a fine meal. If you don't want a dinner and a show, sit at any of their regular tables and they will be glad to bring you a hibachi meal. Then of course there is the sushi. I only order the vegetarian options and they are all good, especially the sweet potato sushi. I know, sounds weird, but it's maybe my favorite of their dishes. Don't order fried rice, only white rice with 1 egg stir fried and charge $5. We were very disappointed that the chef did not cooked our food in front of us. Kids were there to watch the fire show and live cooking. I have a party of 5 people and I don't want to group with other people. The waitress tried so hard to pursuant us to agree that the chef cook at the opposite table. But we disagreed and waitress acknowledged the chef will cook at our table but just have to wait longer. We said no problem we have no rush. I was so shocked the chef did not cook in front of us. All our food is cooked crowdly and all my noodles are broken, short and like left overs. The best hibachi/ sushi in the Croton area hands down. I never thought takeout hibachi would be a good idea, but this place proved me wrong. Everything is always meticulously packed and never any spillage. This is my go to Asian takeout joint in the area. For the quality you get the prices are very reasonable. All of the food there is excellent, from the sushi, to the entrees, to the hibachi. The sushi is extremely fresh and tender, and the meats are top notch. If you are a steak lover get the filet mignon hibachi, it is killer. The staff is extremely friendly and the service is lightening fast. One time they forgot a Japanese soda with my order, the next time the staff were very apologetic and they gave me 3 sodas! Been coming to Samurai for a few years now but since Covid we have been doing takeout frequently atleast twice a month. It's one of the best japanese restaurants around.. far far better than Asiago! Hibachi is really good, sushis are always fresh. Love their special Spicy noodles, Yaki Soba Noodles. All along we have had pleasant experience with staff and delivery men.. Went here today 7/12/23 & the Food was really good & decent atmosphere only issue I had was that I made reservations because I seen it was a hibachi restaurant so I expected them to cook the food in front of me & my wife, we even asked if they do that service there when we were first seated , the waitress told us no they don't they make the hibachi in the back, okay that's no issue .. but around 25 mins into our food they seat a couple in the back & come out & start cooking in front of them on the grill ‍‍‍‍ so that kinda ruined the experience for us especially since it was our anniversary. We came here to celebrate my Birthday. We have never been rushed out of a restaurant like we were at this restaurant. The waitress was so rude. She seemed bothered to ask for our drinks and didn't even give us enough time to look at the cocktail menu. So we just ordered water and ginger ale. My son asked what juices they had and she seemed annoyed to tell us. The hibachi was great, food tasted good and the chef was fun. However, when our drinks were empty we asked for them to refilled and the waitress quickly snapped back that there were no free refills. We told her that was fine, we all still needed drinks. Then before we were ready for the tab she handed it to us and had the bus lady come and grab our plates. The bus lady threw out my mother's almost full drink. Then tried to tell her there was nothing in the glass when we watched her throw it all out. We weren't even give. A chance to look at the desserts. We have no clue if this place even offers desserts because the waitress already brought out the tab before we could ask. I would never come back to this place. I will not recommend it to anyone. This review is based on my takeout experience. This was my first time ordering sushi. I loved all of it . My favorite was the shrimp tempura and the California roll . The ginger, soy, and hot mustard sauces were good. Our food was ready when we got there just like the website said. Staff was friendly and attentive to us when we walked in. when we got home it was fresh and tasted great . They have a good size parking lot . They have two separate dining rooms inside .
