Yama Fuji is a great find if you are looking for a change from Chinese take out. This is our first time there and it was Outstanding. Great service, comfortable seating, nice festive atmosphere and high quality food at a reasonable price. Don't always take out - eat in! We had the Peking Duck appetizer at $11.95. Wrapped in a pancake it was a perfect flavor sensation of tender high quality duck and vegetables. A nice change from traditional 1/2 Peking Duck at Chinese restaurants that can be $28. The second app we got was shrimp shumai which was tender shrimp in a bed of sushi dumpling rice. Here again less expensive at $7.95 than traditional Chinese shrimp noodles dim sum. The special sushi rolls are large tender and beautiful to look at. Both the sweet heart roll and the Blackened Tuna roll were perfect. These are big and can be shared. Get ready for cool weather, the large bowl of soy based Shoyu Ramen. Plenty of tender ramen noodles, vegetables and pork slices made this hot and spicy dish great @$14.95. The traditional noodle soup looked delicious too. The Lo mein looked great and the Bubble Tea is tres excellent- as are the ice cold Japanese beers. Highly recommended! read more

Loved our dinner at Yama Fuji Sushi! We started with the Shumai, perfectly steamed and flavorful. I had the Double Dragon Roll, and it was so good I ordered it twice. My wife really enjoyed the poke salmon, super fresh and well-seasoned. My daughter had an avocado roll. The service was friendly and attentive, and the ambiance was calm and welcoming. Very solid sushi and has been very fresh the multiple times I've eaten there. They have delivered as far as Montrose, NY. They take reservations, however, I have never had a problem with a walk-in for a family of five. The service is always professional and prompt. I like the Yama roll. They have creative stuff, but a LOT of fried options (whether it is tempura, flakes/crunch, something fried in the roll), so if you're not into that, buyer beware. Clearly, you can ask to not include the fried stuff, but that minimizes the chef's intended experience. Sake options are a bit limited. I'm a big fan of picking up sushi vs. delivery at this place. I usually hit up Okinawa which is not far from where I work but recently we were mailed a menu from this joint and my hangover was instructing me to GO HERE! So I ordered some take out of spicy tuna tataki (comes w guac, wow I am in love), kani salad and Godzilla and Ossining roll. Remember, I was hungover- thus the amount of food which lasted me thru lunch and dinner. Spicy tuna tataki came in a weird, tuna-can shape and not like a sliced tuna steak which I'm used to. Well it was delicious either way. Also w a heap of guac and a few fried tortilla/pita chips so it was a solid Hell Yes in my stomach. Kani salad wasn't spicy but it was decent; more cucumber than crab meat but at least I know next time to skip it. Ossining roll is like a cali roll on the inside but with tobiko flakes and tuna/salmon/yellowtail on top, light and perfect combo. The Godzilla roll has spicy mayo/lobster sauce w crab meat and spicy tuna and was very dense and thick. Tasty too! They both came as 8 pieces too so I was able to eat the other half for dinner. Overall, I will def-o be hitting this place up to try some new roll combos since I'm already schooled in most of the okinawa ones. Delivery took about 40 mins which is average, no complaints. I ordered two sushi rolls and Yaki udon noodles for lunch. The noodles were not bad - pretty average in terms of taste to what I've had before at other places, but I was disappointed in the sushi. As you can see from the picture, the avocado in my California roll is a little old. I get that avocado is expensive and what not, but ive never ordered sushi and seen avocado look this bad. Also, doesn't California rolls usually come with cucumber in them? I cannot really comment on the customer service, which others have complained about, because I ordered through grub hub, but the delivery was relatively fast. Maybe because I usually don't eat sushi for lunch, but I thought it was a good bargain to get two rolls and miso soup or salad for 10 bucks. The California roll was fine as it's what you expect for a sushi bar. I wasn't a big fan for the spicy tuna roll however, as it's iffy at best. It was dull and seemed to break apart easily. Also, the tuna roll wasn't spicy at all so I had to use a decent amount of wasabi to kick up the heat. I may have to try a different roll before I can make a verdict on their rolls. Based on the reviews I've seen, your best bet is to go with takeout. They usually say it takes around 15 minutes for it to be ready, but it was less than that when I picked it up. read more

Rating of one star due to lousy delivery service. Ordered online for delivery. 50 minutes later I called to get the scoop on why it was so late. The lady on the phone first couldn't find my order and then she "found" it and told me that the delivery person is in his way. I live only five minutes away so I figured I would give them enough time so I waited another 20 minutes to call only to be told again that the delivery guy is on his way...again! No apology, nothing. I frequented Yama Fuji Sushi since it open around 2018. Up until the pandemic in 2020 it was a great place for Sushi. Service was good. We were there at least once a week. We recently started going again but have been disappointed every time. Food is still good but the service is horrible. Once the food is delivered you may not see a server again. Want water? sorry, nobody around. Need another napkin? sorry, nobody around. Need Soy sauce? sorry, try again.... and so it goes until you get up to leave when someone will bring you a check. When we came to this place for dinner it was dim and not that many people there. It stayed open until 11 pm but they closed at 10:40 pm due to not having that many customers. The pictures on TV screen looks amazing but when it came out it taste bland and not that flavorful. We order the Godzilla roll, sukiyaki, tempura udon. The service was great and they were really nice, I thought there was more service then customer. I would come back for dessert or because they open late. read more

Great sushi and very convenient location. The fish seems really fresh too. I like their specialty sushi a lot.

We were nervous about ordering take- out sushi during the pandemic because it can't be reheated to 165 degrees. So we ordered udon soup. The broth was remarkably thin and bland, especially in contrast with the rich, complex luxury possible. I still love their lunchtime bento boxes and their tempura is crispy and light, even when we got it home. Thanks for staying open for take-out. Yesterday in full Yelp mode I used my Yelp app to find a good sushi place. The closest to me was Yama Fuji Sushi. My friend and i excitedly went through the menu to find what we wanted. The first thing we noticed were the prices - not as low as I would have expected ( especially for what we got) We ordered our food to pick up, and it was ready pretty quickly. My order consisted of Clear soup, California Roll, Spicy Tuna Roll, and Spider Roll. The sum up of my dinner was this. Clear Soup- I have had much better, but it was ok. California Roll- It was merely ok. Spicy Tuna- Horrible, i didn't even finish them because they were so bad. Spider Roll- Not terrible, but once again just ok. My conclusion? This review is strictly on how I was treated, I haven't even eaten my food yet but already know for sure I won't go back there. As I walk in the door the man behind the counter yells across the restaurant "Picking up???"I wasn't about to yell back as there were 3 tables dining in so I awkwardly walk to him and tell him I would like to place a to go order but need to look at a menu, he grunted at me and practically pushed me over to bring a plate to a table. I order a few sushi rolls and he didn't understand my order when he read it back but I already had enough of his attitude and settled on being short two rolls. I pay and sit down and less than 10 minutes later the sushi chef places a to go bag on the counter. I watch the guy who took my order belittle an elderly man trying to order something he can't find on the menu then he walks back and fourth not really doing anything. 15 minutes later "oh your order is ready" "oh gee thanks" I don't care how good the food is.. Customer service is everything. Jiki is right down the road and they will bend over backwards to make sure you are happy. When you place a walk- in take out order they give you complimentary tea and a dessert while you wait. I'll stick with them. read more

As far as sushi restaurants go, this place was just alright. We did take-out from it, so I can't say anything about service or the quality of the meal experience. Our food was ready when we got there, which is always nice. We had soup and sushi. My miso was pretty tasty, but not anything spectacular. I had the california eel roll, the sweet potato roll, and split the spicy tuna with my friend. I loved the eel roll - california+eel= amazing collaboration, so applause go to Yama Fuji for coming up with that one. The sweet potato roll was okay. It wasn't too bready, and it's a mild roll anyway so I wasn't expecting much. The spicy tuna was pretty bad, though. It wasn't spicy whatsoever, and there seemed to be more non-spicy sauce in it than tuna. Definitely would not order that again. The price of this place coupled with the rave reviews its received had us looking forward to an amazing meal, but I found my expectations falling short of reality. There are certainly sushi places in the area that are cheaper and have better food. Maybe we'd have had a better experience if we ate at the restaurant, but I probably won't be going back anyway. ALSO our GPS couldn't find it! Maybe their address isn't accurate? 7.14.2014 Update: Ordered beef udon and the yellowtail roll for delivery. This go-round I let the voice on the other end of the phone know that the chicken had been waaaay over-cooked last time. So the beef udon was *much* better than my last experience. But the showstopper was the humble yellowtail. It was light; it was more like a confection that melted in your mouth than the usual. Really artistic work, kudos to the chef. :-) I'm limiting this review to take-out and delivery. The folks here are super-sweet, the food is ready when promised and delivery prompt. Another reviewer hit the nail on the head when she had suggested one stick to the sushi/sashimi/raw fish selections. The sushi is tasty, fresh, average-priced for the area. On the other hand, anything cooked can be hit or miss. I think the first time I had ordered tempura udon noodles which was great. Next order, I tried the chicken udon noodles -- most of which had to be trashed because "rubbery" doesn't even begin to describe the mutant condition of the chicken in the mix (shudder). So, stick to the fish and I would suggest eating in so if there is a problem with your dining companion's cooked meal, it can be easily remedied or exchanged. read more

Although the bigger shopping center it's kittykorner to has one of the greatest beer selections I've ever seen in a chain supermarket (Sam Smiths and Fin du Monde in an A&P? Are you kidding me?). Went last night with a party of four (Scott Wolf had other plans) and had the same solid meal as always. Sat across from four OC-wannabees which made the meal that much more enjoyable. Sushi was fresh, big selection of rolls, and large selection of weekly specials. Pacific Roll is always great, and agree with previous poster about the sweet potato rolls - topped with Lobster. This place has increasingly been going downhill. Today for take out lunch I ordered 2 of the same thing and I made it very clear I wanted two. They gave me one. I had also ordered more than this one lunch special and they only gave me one set of chopsticks and one soy sauce even tho the meal was for 3 people. I come here for the sushi mostly. It's pretty good, although sometimes the spicy tuna isn't all that spicy. The rolls are also a bit smaller than most places I go to. One time I decided to order cooked food and that was a mistake. I got the chicken teriyaki which was very odd-looking. It was triangle-shaped pieces of chicken that looked incredibly processed. It tasted dry and there wasn't enough sauce to make it palatable. It also came with one carrot, one little head of broccoli and one baby corn. Weird.
