    Cucumber wrapped appetizer roll

Ordered (2) orders of pick three rolls and an appetizer roll wrapped in cucumber from Door Dash. Was 15 minutes late due to the restaurant not Door Dash. Maybe that's why the rolls were room temperature. Sushi is better chilled. Everything was okay. Saw a couple white lines in both the salmon and tuna so was concerned at first since other sushi we get doesn't have this. Googled it and determined that this was just connective tissue. Does make us question the quality of the fish since we haven't had that issue anywhere else. Then received a $3.65 up charge on my bill since we had asked for soy sauce and a side of tempura flakes/crunch. seems nit picky to charge for that. Anywhere else we get sushi from doesn't charge for that.

Maybe I don't understand their "hibachi" but this is not the hibachi I've been eating for the past 10 years of my life.

Sunflower Roll - February 25, 2012 (without eel)
    Paige B.

I'm a regular at Samurai and, after several years of patronage, felt like it was time to endorse my favorite takeout spot. Ambiance: Samurai is a cute little Japanese restaurant. The waitresses wear Japanese dresses and the décor is Japanese-inspired in a classic sense. It is small, cozy, and has an intimate setting that would suit a casual dinner or a date. There are individual small tables and an option to sit at the sushi bar. I would recommend not coming in with a group larger than 10, since even with a reservation, the dining area is small. The menu is big, they have a bar, and they also offer Japanese desserts as well as more Americanized desserts. Sunflower Roll: This is my go-to takeout meal when I'm craving sushi. Spicy tuna mixed with a sparing amount of crunch and scallion is combined and rolled inside of filets of eel, yellowtail, blue fin, toro, and salmon sashimi, and the roll is drizzled with spicy sriracha mayo and unagi sauce, and topped with assorted caviars. To clarify, this roll doesn't contain any rice or nori, just fresh fish. It is rich, flavorful, filling, and ten kinds of delicious. The only reason why I didn't give it 5 out of 5 stars is because you never know how much you are going to get; there are times when the roll is giant and other times when it is small. (I uploaded two pictures from two separate visits, "Sunflower Roll (without eel)," above). Service: The four regular waitresses are sweet and helpful, but sometimes when the place is packed, they seem to be spread too thin. Overall: Fish is sometimes not fresh, which can make or break your meal. When it's good, the sunflower roll is not to be missed!

"NY steak" hibachi, rice soup, iceberg salad, and an orange??

I ordered a hibachi meal here and paid $20 for something my high school cafeteria would be ashamed to serve.

Chirashi bowls, unagi (eel) roll, and tuna roll.

Came here with two of my close friends for a lunch date. I'm from California, so finding good sushi anywhere else other than Japan can be difficult. I was pleasantly surprised by the food at Samurai. I ordered the Chirashi and it came with a very nice selection of fresh sashimi. Typically Chirashi tends to be quite pricey with not very much sashimi, but I thought this was great. We also ordered two rolls, one topped with tuna and hamachi (I think) sashimi and one with unagi (eel). They were pretty standard sushi rolls and both quite good. The Chirashi surprised me the most because it was so reasonably priced and very good. Since I got to school somewhat nearby, I will be frequenting this place a lot more.

Alibaba maki and ume shiso roll

Came here for friends for an early dinner. It was before their restaurant hours for dinner, we didn't know that when we walked in, but they willingly let us in. This place is pretty clean and the service courteous. It was really nice when they asked if we wanted separate checks. I tried the ume shiso maki and the Ali-BaBa special roll. Both were of decent size and taste. Nothing out of the ordinary, nothing super spectacular; was filling and fine. They seem the have the pretty traditional fare with a decent selection of specialty rolls. They don't seem to have many bento box combination offerings for dinner (I'm not sure about lunch). Some people in the group had mentioned that while this place was nice, it's a bit more expensive than its competitor down the street, Sushi Land.

I have to confess I was initially confused by the lion king's appearance due to being a hot "baked" roll - I had completely missed that part but was down to try it. This roll is one of the best and most unique flavors I've ever had. Even to this day, I still remember the taste and wish I could go back to order it again.

The flavor fusion is the perfect solution for the indecisive folks like me. In fact, it is so half and half the two sides of the store look entirely different with completely different vibes! The staff was great. They were attentive and sweet. The sushi chefs were absolutely amazing. I was taking a little video of the set up when the one chef said "hi, Instagram!" and they all perked up and smiled and waved. We ordered the papaya salad and tom yum for appetiser. It could have been much more spicy as we were expecting with authentic Thai food. For mains, we got the sashimi deluxe for two and the spider (soft shell crab) roll. The sashimi was chosen by the chefs and we definitely had our faves (basically everything from the middle). Next time we will order individual hand rolls/nigiri of the ones we liked. Taste-wise, I would say it's 3/5. The staff was sweet and for me the star of the show--the people made it 5/5. And for this overall I give it a 4/5.

This is one of the best sake menus I have seen in the area, including domestic production, and also offers Japanese beers and a very delicious cocktail list featuring sake-forward offerings. Sake served generously with the cedar box tradition. Specials are available daily and warm food from the menu seems to be prepared next door at Ripplewood (same ownership).
