Probably one of the worst run Cable TV companies on the planet. They purposely keep their hours 8am-4pm M-F so absolutely NO actual customer service can occur. My family and I work all week during their business hours, so I am unable to drop off the cable equipment at their front desk. They offer no other service for those customers that work M-F 8am-5pm. City Net is unapologetic in their failure to provide customer services that actually benefit their customers. City Net's current customer service phone tree actually says their hours are 8:30-5pm on Wednesday. Their phone representative says that they changed those hours 3 years ago and just haven't updated their phone system message. Going since Thursday with no internet, 4 different ticket number, telling me it should be running by 5pm everyday and that a technician should call me... technician cancelled because he said it was because of a outage in the area, as I waiting all day for someone to contact me, as another day passes the 24/7 tech line now telling me I will have to wait till the office open Monday for someone to review what's going on.... I'm paying more for the fiber service. When it works, it's great. But latency is an issue, and CityNet's website is no help (in addition to looking like it was designed when the Internet was first invented). If management reads these reviews, here are some suggestions for improvement: 1. Have a status update page that updates in real time. There are tools that can be used to automatically monitor outages and alert staff so staff can provide updates on that page to customers in real time. 2. Update the website. Having to turn in a paper application in this day and age is ridiculous. Not to mention COVID. 3. Return phone calls. I've left a message with the manager because he asked me to when I asked a question here on Yelp, but he never responded. 4. Think about bringing in a third-party vendor to assess what other improvements can be made to better serve San Bruno residents. What prompted me to write this review? Repeated issues on video calls, resulting in me having to hotspot using my phone. Absolute garbage of a service. Our wifi signal has never been consistent but because there are few wifi services our household has stuck with it. In the past few months we've had the sportiest wifi. I called the technical support they told us to have a technician come out because there was an issue that needed to be resolved. Come the next week, a technician calls and insists there's something wrong with our router. Not only that but the utter disrespect he spoke to me with. I purchase a router and the same issue persists. We literally pay for a service. We've paid MONTHS for a service that we're not receiving. The LEAST they can do is give us the benefit of the doubt because we don't know how to solve technical issues and this is why we're paying for the company to provide the service. Poor service across the board, racking up substantial city debt for absolutely abysmal product quality. This would be negligible if they didn't essentially ban every other ISP from operating in the area. With my neighbors taking the only AT&T fiber option with 0 ability to run a second AT&T line to the house the city offered service is the only one that would provide fiber. The price is massively inflated and the other reviews are spot on with their description of the services or lack there of. They have insisted on doing the job of a professional ISP but refuse to do anything resembling a "good" or even "adequate" job of maintaining or modernizing it. The only light on the horizon is that hopefully now that their 21 MILLION dollar debt with this fiasco has been resolved they can sell the service to comcast this October and maybe get something resembling reliable internet into the city from other than just a single ISP. read more

I'm in a HOA Condominium complex in San Bruno that only allowed Dish network or Citynet Services San Bruno (formally San Bruno Cable) Att is allowed but only has internet service up to, get this. 3MB. Before the switch of San Bruno dropping their cable service by raising the rates to Approx $250 and Promoted The streaming service as a better alternative. Channel packages, no rental fees for boxes and a 1Gig of internet for the low low price of $132, just need a Roku or Amzn Fire. Well You need to bring up the APP on the thing in order to access Citynet. Now you want the perks that cable had, like watching the stations on net by logging in with your cable service provider to watch AMC, or CBS or Peacock and many other places to binge watch or play catch up on missed episode? Nope. You need to go to those sites and purchase them individually. Why? because you are part of a streaming service and not a cable customer Well that really adds up. ABSOLUTE CRAP. I just moved into this city. San Bruno Citynet or what used to be called San Bruno Cable monopolizes San Bruno city, which means I'm left with only ONE choice to choose them for internet services. The city does not allow any other internet service provider to come work in the area. Barely make it to 10mpbs download speed for games. We chose the highest speed given and still can't even load a single game on the PS4. Streaming Netflix seems alright, but sometimes lags. Who knew living in the semi-modern city can feel like I'm living in the woods in the 1950s. I am paying $70/mo for crap internet that's supposed to be high speed (300mpbs) whereas I used to pay $65/mo with Xfinity for 1000mpbs. I only hope this crap will be stable enough for work. I don't plan on staying in this city if this shit show continues. Don't let the good reviews fool you LOL. If you're someone who uses iPhone, streams videos, works from home, or have young members that plays video games - do not live here or pay SB citynet a single penny for this service. It's Saturday and I've been on hold waiting for the branch office's customer service for 30 minutes only to find out they're actually closed on weekends, but their automated teleprompter kept telling me to "please, continue to stay on hold.." What kind of sick joke is this?!? Why would they put you on hold if they are closed. Why not just have an automated message saying they are closed and call back on Monday? WORST SERVICE EVER! If covid wasn't happening right now I would change services but don't want anyone coming into the house because my son's health. MOST IF NOT ALL channels go out on 3 out of 4 wknds, especially holiday wknds so you're not able to watch your TV. They contract out for technical support and the company is USELESS. It's sad that San Bruno cable raises rates constantly but do nothing about providing better service. May they should concentrate more on providing better services & making sure services doesn't go out on wknds than padding their financial needs?! I feel compelled to write this review because I saw so many bad reviews here. Actually, I was worried the internet quality very much when I was moved in San Bruno and saw these reviews. Also when opening account at this company, I had a bad experience, which worried me even more. When I open the internet with this company, I had to go the office after checking website and then found it's closed on that day without notice in advance. I saw a notice on the door about office hours which are different from what they had on their website. I had to visit their office the other day bringing the document to open an account. This was not a good experience and it's just like what municipal service usually does :) This made me surer that San Bruno CityNet wouldn't provide any good internet availability. I work at a tech company as an engineer and I need internet connection almost 24/7. I was so distressed that I imagined how terrible the connection would be. Why I gave it 5 stars? The internet stability is extremely good. When I was living in Millbrae, I had comcast and yes I had internet outage often. People here say SanBruno cable is even worse than comcast and they even wish comcast was here. It's unbelievable to me. As a sw engineer who uses internet extremely for work, I'm 100% happy with San Bruno cable. The outage was just for 15mins on one day for these 10 mo! This is amazing availability. Internet speed is also stable and almost at the level of upper limit of my contract. I suspect that something is wrong with the house where people blame San Bruno cable on internet connection quality. Old house usually is equipped with old cable infrastructure but it's not cable company's responsibility but the house owner's responsibility. They raised their rates by $50 per month without adequate notice. I spent over 1.5 hrs on hold with no one answering the phone. When I went in person, there was a line out the door of people canceling due to the increase. Even though my elderly mom qualifies for lifeline, they said the low income discount is only $10 off a $250 bill. Bye bye SB Cable, hello Comcast. I hope they go bankrupt. read more

I have been a subscriber of San Bruno Cable TV ("SBCTV") since 2002 when I moved to San Bruno. Throughout this time I have always had expanded basic service. For the first 10 years it was typical for service to go down A LOT. Sometimes I would have no service for days. I dreaded the times I had to call the front office because I would inevitably wait in excess of 20 minutes to speak with a live body. It was not uncommon for me to wait for two to three days for a service technician. Phone service has improved somewhat. It also helps that I have the direct e-mail address to someone high up on the food chain. Admittedly the service technician wait has improved 90%. With the improvement I decided to bite the bullet and add internet service. The reason for my two star review is I learned by chance last weekend that four channels I previously received, channels 188 (Ovation), 189 (WE), 192 SUND (now SUND W) and 193 (FXM), I no longer receive. The reason I was provided is that SBCTV encrypts their channels. Due to a "glitch" on their end, I should have NEVER received these channels in the first place and as a result I no longer have access to them. As my review states I have been an expanded basic subscriber for nearly 18 years. On my end I feel as though I am being punished for a mistake on SBCTV's end. I do not appreciate having found out the way I did. The least SBCTV could do is notify its expanded basic subscribers that they will no longer have access to these channels. Also, now that I am an internet subscriber on the rare occasion that there is an internet glitch subscribers should be notified if possible in advance. Last year I had no internet access due to technical difficulties. On another occasion SBCTV was hacked. I would have to say that communication with its subscribers is terrible except when it comes to sending out monthly bills. read more

If I could put 0 stars i would, this place is so terrible as an internet provider. Very inconsistent connection at night. When calling customer support or trying through a 3rd party website nothing happens. They just open a ticket for you and don't follow through. I already have 2 tickets for the same issue and nothing. Can I give this place ZERO stars? I lived in San Bruno for 3 years, and from day one could not stand the service or should I say, lack of customer service from these people. From the moment I had the displeasure of walking into this wretched cinder block, it looked like an "Old People's" home", with 4 or 5 women with mean looks on their faces, occupying desks out of the 1970's who looked like they had worked there for 40 years, and couldn't have been any less interested in helping me. Fast forward. I moved out of San Bruno in May of 2020, and recently recieved a HUGE BILL sent to my new address 14 months after I had them disconnect my cable services. I also returned their cheap equipment personally, but evidently, this incompetent company never made a notation of this fact. It was impossible to explain my situation to a live person over the phone, because nobody picked-up, and I got caught in an endless loop of voice prompts. Therefore, I had the total and complete displeasure of visiting this place in person once again, and had one of the rudest individuals I have ever met in my life, get in my face, yelling in front of other customers and staff, that the "bill was beause I never returned the equipment," which was a complete lie. She then yelled, "I'm going to talk to my Supervisor" and literally 10 seconds later, said, "we will drop the charges," as if they were doing me a big fat favor. ABSOLUTELY NO APOLOGIES for trying to rip me off, or waste my time! I also asked why this horribly run "Mom and Pop" operation decides to send excellent customers like myself, who pay their bills on time, erroneous bills 14 MONTHS LATER, and her answer was, "because of the pandemic." Excuse me, I said, "you mean the pandemic prevents you from communicating with customers until 14 months after the fact"? AND SHE YELLED ACROSS HER DESK AND IN FRONT OF OTHERS, "YES"!!!!! At that point, I ran out of this horrible place, and got down on my hands and knees and thanked GOD I would never have to see this person, or her cohorts ever again. All I can say is, steer clear of this place if at all possible. I would have used Xfinity if I could, but unfortunately, I think this joke of a company has the cable monopoly in San Bruno, and I had no choice but to use their services. I'll end with this. Unfortunately, in this day and age of huge companies like Amazon and Xfinity, it is small, incompetent companies like this, run by incompetent and RUDE people, that give "Mom and Pops" a bad name. When I first moved into San Bruno six years ago, I would've given this company 1 star due to the lack of internet speed and its ridiculous peak time hours. However, as years went by, SBCTV has consistently provided world class customer service while improving its internet speed. SBCTV recently changed its internet/cable packages and I've quickly signed up for the 300mbps/basic TV deal - BEST DECISION EVER. An SBCTV technician came to my house multiple times to rewire my cables (furniture rearrangement) and swapped my modem free of charge. After getting a new wireless router from Amazon (Netgear R6700 AC1750), I'm currently averaging 260-295mbps download speed and 8-9.8mbps upload speed. Now I'm able to stream 1080p60 youtube videos and play online games w/o issues. Note: Invest in a good wireless router!!! Otherwise your bandwidth may be bottle-necked. read more

First moving to San Bruno our apartment complex didn't allow us to have dish so we had no choice but to go with San Bruno Cable. Costing around $150 a month for cable, internet and telephone it is a bit on the expensive side but if you get a service you don't mind so much. Only the service was shi!t. Service dropped out on a regular basis for as long as 8 or 9 hours on a couple of occasions and not just the one service - all 3! When either myself or my husband called them to find out why our service had gone and how long it might take to get back all we were told was that they were ''aware of the problem and maintenance are working on it''. Not even a rough idea of how long we might have to wait. The internet is also one of the worst I have ever experienced. The website states up to 16Mbps but we were lucky if we got above 2Mbps. Their office hours are also ridiculous - 8am - 5pm Monday to Friday (8:30am on Wednesday). Most people are at work between these times so visiting the office is almost impossible. I recall on a couple of occasions I went there in business hours only to find them closed with no sign on the door or explanation why. I am so glad we have now moved and do not have to put up with such sh!tty service. A very generous 2 stars. read more

Moved to San Bruno and the fastest ISP is San Bruno Cable. Due to them monopolizing this, Comcast is not offered. My internet keeps dropping or disconnecting and working from home is a challenge. If there was a faster ISP provider in my are I would never sign up with them. read more

At first I was sketched out by San Bruno Cable because their site and signup process (in person) seemed antiquated, but I can tell you that I am now a big fan of San Bruno Cable! I only have internet with them, so I can't speak to their tv service. You get fast internet, get to speak to an actual human if you run into any issues, and get same day or next day service! You're not getting any of that with At&t or Xfinity. During covid, we did experience some lag in zoom calls at peak times. So when I called to check on that, they had a technician out that same day with a new modem which helped with the issue. Overall would recommend San Bruno Cable! read more

Hi, I see very bad reviews for our SB Cable and I was very hesitant to switch to SB Cable from at&t. Finally today I let the SB Cable to come in to my house and its it terrific, super fast. I ordered the 50mbps one and I am getting over 70mbps. Only thing I dont like is the limit cap they have or how much we can use. No other companies now a days have the limit. Hope they will remove that soon. I recommend "San Bruno Cable" to all the residents here. That way they can also improve and keep up the good work. Very unhappy with the service I've received. While the director was helpful in sending me a new box this week, I'm still not able to access my OnDemand feature. This has been going on for a couple of months. Phone messages and emails go unanswered and tech support (after waiting on hold for 30-45 min) says they aren't equipped to help me with my OnDemand. I'd give SBC a negative 10 rating if I could. It's been three and a half weeks now and my internet bandwidth during peak hours (6-11pm) is completely non-existent. I get capped off 5-8mbps and I can confirm this is NOT a hardware issue. I conducted a speed test on both wired and wireless connections with the SAME result. I called in last week 10/17 and spoke to their "head" network engineer AL Johnson who gave me the most deflective and poorly positioned response, "the node you're connected to is not functioning as expected, I'm going to send someone out to fix the issue and will give you a call Monday to provide an update." Monday rolled around yesterday and still NO UPDATE. APPARENTLY the node works fine when I'm working at home on Fridays and there isn't an entire city running on an over-provisioned, anti-capitalistic excuse of a network that is likely more than 20 years old. Getting so desperate that I'm planning to move to AT&T unless they provide a clear cut plan of action and evidence that they've made the fix they promised. SBC has thus far been the biggest mistake of my life since moving into the city and I have NEVER missed Comcast this badly in my life - now that's saying something. read more

Had a horrendous experience trying to get fiber (Sonic via AT&T) and as they were missing my install for the third time, I had enough started looking at my options and found San Bruno Cable TV. A municipal internet provider. SF has been talking about creating one for ~15 years, but San Bruno has been operating a municipal network since 1971. Had to drop in to the office downtown to apply, but they came two days later and got me set up in short order. Everyone I spoke to was nice and helpful. Installer knew his biz did a nice clean install in no time. In the end, Gigabit speeds are extravagant, so I was only going for 100M service via Sonic/AT&T. Now I'm paying less per month for the same 100M service level. San Bruno is working on a fiber upgrade. Get on board and support your local municipal provider! read more

Called 100 times be on the hold for 40 minutes and what gets done is just reboot the modem which definitely gets the speed for up to 60 mbps for 5 min and then drops back to 18 mbps after 10 min . Had been using San Bruno cable high speed internet service for a little over 2 years with very limited options around the area. AT&T finally installed fiber cable a few months ago and I immediately made the switch as soon as the service became available. Although AT&T was not my first choice I am so glad I can finally get rid of San Bruno cable internet service. First the good. The installation was a great experience with knowledgeable technicians willing to help and ensure the service was up and running. The speed was good when it was working but... Now the bad, the time when the internet was working properly was rare. Internet would slow down all of a sudden and sometimes it could drop out completely, I could hardly work at home since the internet could drop without warning almost everyday. Most of the time I couldn't finish a movie streaming in one sitting because the screen would pause many many times due to slow internet speed. Customer service was not the best and most of the time there were no one there to pick up the phone. Last but not least, they increased the price a few times in the past couple years and the current price is definitely not very competitive. Although the service improved gradually over times, it was still extremely inconsistent in my opinion.
