So I used the Groupon deal to get my hair done. I didn't purchase it through the app because I learned that it benefits the stylist more if you just take a screenshot of what deal your wanting and they will charge you that price. My hair stylist was Kristen and she was amazing! During the consultation she did tell me that because I have thicker hair I would need to purchase more toner so that I could get the results that I wanted, but it was for a cheaper price because I had the Groupon. I agreed to paying more because I didn't want my hair having an orange tone since I wanted to dye my hair brown. The service I bought was for balayage, deep conditioning, and a haircut. Groupon buyer beware! My Groupon was for full highlights and lowlights, conditioning treatment, and haircut. Instead, I got a root touch up and a haircut, and maybe a little conditioner, not sure. Atousa said she could only do root touch up, a significantly less expensive service than highlights and lowlights. When I complained, she said she could add highlights for 85$! Unfortunately, I did not read the reviews carefully on Groupon bc there are many similar incidents. I noticed that they tend to show the positive ones first, so if you don't scroll down you will miss the bad ones. Let me state first that this is in no way a review about the Colorist salon as a whole, it is only about ATOUSA as an independent hairstylist. I made an appointment with her a month out, and the specific date for me was extremely important since my boyfriend was coming back from his deployment, and I wanted to get my hair done before he got home. My appointment was at 11, so I got there a little early. After a half hour of her not showing up or contacting me I texted her. The salon owner also called her after 45 minutes of her not showing up or contacting me, and she did not pick up. IF YOU ARE BOOKING HER BECAUSE OF GROUPON, DON'T. She has terrible and inexcusable customer service. There is a reason why her Groupons are so cheap. It's because she might not show up. Honestly, thank god for David, the salon owner. He felt really bad about her never showing up so he went out of his way to fit me in on the following Monday. I am extremely grateful for that, and he was very kind about the entire situation. It was such an un pleasurable experience that I always said I would make it a point to post a review. Purchased a Groupon for baylage. They charged me so much extra to do it for BS add ons. I hardly ever treat myself that I decided to do it. The owner, can't remember her name was rude as hell and arrogant. I mainly remember her and her lacky intern were gossiping negatively and bitchy about other customers while assisting me. I can only imagine what they said about me to others. Very unprofessional. I got a Groupon for a haircut and bayalage and let me just say Atousa is AMAZING! I'm 9 months pregnant and wanted something easy to manage since I will be super busy with a newborn soon. Atousa was super helpful and suggested colors that would compliment me and work with what I was wanting. I did pay extra (I was told several times before anything was done) and I was totally fine with the extra charges (toner and all over color). She gave me exactly what I wanted and I couldn't be happier! UPDATED REVIEW--- She is okay, we bought the groupon but it was way more than expected. The groupon stated $62 for balayage, haircut, and deep conditioning and the total came out to $213!!! My friend has thick hair and she said the price was "because her hair needed a lot more product" but it ended up looking exactly how it was before we even came in here. I feel bad because I recommend this hair dresser to my friend and she came out of the salon with the same hair and upset at how $213 was lost so quickly. UPDATE: I wrote the original review in a very upset state as my friend was very unhappy with the results and the price she had to pay. My friend understood that there were additional charges and agreed to it, however the additional charges added up to be way more than expected. In fact, the groupon said $62 for $185 worth of services, which included balayage, cut, and deep conditioning. We did not get any sort of discount even though we found the groupon, and to make matters worse, we directly bought the groupon through her, which put an extra $31 in her pocket. When I mentioned the lack of discount, she re-added everything up and the price went even higher from $200 to $213. Something does not seem right. At full price, this would have been $336?! I know my friend has thick hair but I don't think she used enough product to warrant an extra $150 on top of the $62 groupon. If the full price was $213, she should have gotten $123 off that price, plus paying for the groupon at $62, would have put her at $152 out of pocket, not $213. We feel completely ripped off. Looking at the numbers, it looks like she should refund my friend $61, I hope this is just an honest mistake. read more

I purchased a groupon and this was a while back...I was initially going to write a review because I was so upset but never did until now coming across this salon on Yelp I decided I should. I purchased a groupon made a appointment and was told I would be seen by Autosa. I waited for over 30 mins to be seen...not even been acknowledged by Autosa and she was assisting someone right in the front and she was told I was there so she was aware. She finished up and requested I take a seat before even cleaning up all the hair from the person whom she just had finished cutting their hair, so there was hair that had not been swept up all over the floor around me. I feel it was due to having a groupon however I would have came back and paid full price if I was satisfied with services. I initially called the salon Atousa was at previously to ask about the balayage and highlight Groupon. I was told to make my appointment and not purchase the Groupon, that Atousa would honor the Groupon price at the salon. Fine. I went in for my appointment, and Atousa had a few (3-4) clients in that she was juggling around at the time... (my first red flag). I was able to sit with her after waiting 15 mins into my appointment time, and she said she would NOT do the highlight or balayage on my hair because of old box coloring, and that she would only do a color correction and toner to get my hair lighter. At this point I mentioned that I had engagement photos and party coming up so I had NO TIME for "being in between" hair styles... it always needed to be presentable, and she stressed it was going to "look great". Well, I did the WRONG thing and I made the appointment for the color correction thinking it would be fine. I came in for my appointment and again... waited this time 30 mins into my appointment, because of 4 people she was juggling around this time. I was quoted " around $180.00" for this appointment, I expected to be the only one she was working on. We got started on the process and it seemed as though anytime I asked questions, she would start talking over me before I finished and I couldn't get my complete question across. At this point I was feeling a lot more worried about what the end result was going to be... At the end of my appointment, she mentioned the color lifted great and that she then didn't want to do a toner. We would let it dry and see what it looked like before making that decision. Well I was the last in the salon and I can tell she was ready to go home, because I CLEARLY was NOT happy with the outcome (my hair was ORANGE) and she would not do a toner. She "didn't want to touch it", she wanted to "leave it for a few weeks then we could lighten it more". I told her I wanted to do the toner and she and her assistants then came over and tried to convince me that "Rose Gold hair was in". I'm not the type to argue or be confrontational, so I left and said I'd be in touch about another appointment. I went to Plush Salon in Bankers Hill the next day and Cory (He is AMAZING) fixed my hair, and I am never leaving his side. Atousa's attitude was a little too abrasive for me, I felt as though I was being bullied into liking what she did to my hair. A colorist should NEVER let you leave feeling the way I did. I was super excited to get my hair done before the holidays and had read some good reviews about Atousa. I was very disappointed by the way my encounter went. Long story short, I found her on Groupon and before starting my hair we discussed the cost. I knew it may cost a bit more because of the thickness and/or length of my hair. She stated it would be an additional $50-80 after the cost of the Groupon I had purchased (for $60). Long story short, I spent $216 in addition to her not redeeming my Groupon that day which I then lost. While my hair didn't look bad, there was minimal change and I would have never spent that amount of money. It was misleading and I was super disappointed in the way it was handled. I normally am not quick to complain about a business, but I've read other reviews since then that this is a repeated problem when visiting Salon Avalon with a Groupon. read more

Finally braved up the courage to lighten my very dark(black) hair and found Atousa through a groupon while I was visiting San Diego. Looking for highlights for black hair is very tricky. I purchased a Groupon for haircut & deep conditioning with ombre, balayage, or color. Atousa & her assistant were so kind & confident throughout the process. Personally, confidence is key because it makes me feel more comfortable knowing I'm in good hands. My hair is super light blonde (working on going platinum) but my roots were out of control! Called to see about the Groupon was told they would honor the price. But then was told to do my hair in a balayage, it would be a ton of extras. Which doesn't seem like they actually honor the Groupon price then, no? because to get a nice balayage or even highlights toner is almost always needed and to say you will receive an ombré, balayage or highlight service and that the actual value is $210 I can't image $10 worth of toner wouldn't be included...yes it's a little more time also but it's doing the job correctly. I don't think they actually like Groupon or their customers from there which I don't get because why have your salon on there? Advertising I guess. I'll go somewhere else. Thanks Additionally in response to the reply, I have 7 sisters(who all get they're hair done constantly) and have been getting my own hair done for 20 plus years. And I have gotten multiple groupons for similar services and if it is a lightening service a toner has Always been included if needed to insure the best results for the customer who more then likely is a brand new customer that you should make every effort to please..as I mentioned before a toner is (almost) Always needed. I'm no licensed cosmetologist but I do know a good amount about hair. And when I even do my own hair I buy my toner for $3.44 (plus developer) and never need more than two boxes of the small bottles..I would imagine such a distinguished establishment would buy in bulk soooo....anyway with pictures and multiple bad reviews of brassy orange hair maybe you should include the toner. Just because you put it in the terms doesn't mean it's good business. Also Macy's has been around for 100 years and they are going out of business because of bad business practices and negative treatment of customers. I'm glad you feel you have a great business that's untouchable though. Goodluck. But my advice is to take the negativity from people(possible long time, and referring customers and even customers that have given you money) and work on it. Clearly something's off. You didn't even speak of Groupon well now so if you don't like it or the clientele it brings I would suggest discontinuing your business with them. Because maybe the bargain you offer on there you feel is too low or not worth enough so there are more fees for service that should obviously be included..so either don't offer it or raise the price. If you personally got a Groupon or any other special/sale for let's say a tire change for example and they take off your tires and get them all ready to go and then tell you it's an extra charge to put them back on and oh well if you don't like it...it was in the terms. You wouldn't like it I'm sure. Because you would assume a tire change is the full job. Same as with my main complaint and others it is put as simply a full service basically and one expects it is the whole service not just some what of the service now and then come back for more fees later for something that should be included originally. Nobody wants a brassy balayage or ombré or anything else and you should never expect them to or unless they want to pay more. That's ludicrous..You need to look at it from a consumers point of view as a business owner not just get defensive and get snippy as I felt you were with me here and also on the phone clearly others have too from your other reviews. I needed a haircut and wanted to find a new salon, so I did what I usually do when I'm searching for a new business -- went to Groupon. Atousa offered a haircut, condition and style for a very reasonable price. She is an experienced stylist back in business after teaching at a beauty school for many years and is rebuilding her client base. I was really impressed by her. She's skilled and very pleasant. She offered a 10-day re-cut if I didn't like something about my new cut. Well, I had ended up having her cut almost 7 inches off my hair making it short and requiring styling (rather than my usual bun-up do every day for the last 5 years). After a few days decided I wasn't happy with how it was falling when I styled it. The cut she had done was perfect, but my at-home styling of it didn't look as good and I called her to ask about a slight modification. She insisted I come in right away, saying she wanted to make it how I wanted it. She set aside an hour of her day and made it just the way I wanted it to look so that I could do it at home. How amazing is that??? A stylist that wants you to be happy and is wiling to go the extra mile to give of her time (and who would not take any more money for it), is SO STELLAR! I will be going back to her again and again and I recommend that you give her a try! I am certain you will be as happy with the experience as I am! read more

She also had many ideas if I ever wanted to change things up. I could have sat in her chair all day!!! Atousa is obviously very educated in all types of hair and has the experience to back it up.
