I am the HOA prez for a small, building. Jerry at Elevator Professionals rescued us from a very…read morebad situation, saving us at least several tens of thousands of dollars on our recent elevator modernization, and it might have been a lot more if we had signed the first contract that was offered and they had exercised all the options in it. We were being skewered by the elevator advocate we hired. Our then Property Manager seemed to be in cahoots with our "advocate" to raise the price by non-competitive bidding and allow us to believe the high cost was due to the tariff on China at that time. I was advised by another, former HOA Prez to get a separate bid from Jerry at Elevator Professionals. I had some doubts, at first, but I checked him out and he looked great. I also checked the companies providing his equipment in the trade journal, Elevator World, and it looked great also. These are American companies. Jerry's proposed equipment was made in the US and Canada, not in China. The tariff was minimal for some assembly in Mexico. I talked to two references, also, and they checked out. Jerry gave us options on how we could save money, while others gave us options that would require spending a LOT more money. He finished the work ahead of schedule at a very good price. Our elevator now runs perfectly. The residents are delighted. I found Jerry to be an honest businessman who cares about his customers, in a sector that is generally not so honest, and that is putting it mildly. Some of the others are like used car salesmen on steroids; buyer beware!

Seriously the best. We had issues for MONTHS in the building and no other company could fix the…read moreproblem. Along came Elevator Professionals, and I'm glad to say that the elevator drama is now in our past. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

UPDATE: 5/30 I spoke to Lifeway, again. While I was on hold, the representative did not have me…read moremuted. Turns out, there is in fact no ship date noted in their system, another lie. Furthermore, "the $2000 is off the table, Eric definitely won't accomodate that unless they remove the Yelp review". A lot of "I told her we need to stick to the contract" statements were made. Lifeway lacks integrity, honesty, and sensitivity to our circumstances. I don't understand how the leadership of a company (Eric) can have such blatant disregard when we are neck deep in grief. I've been in communication with Bruno the manufacturer. I'm going to clarify whether this order was in fact placed on hold on 5/28 per our request (and verbal confirmation from our Lifeway rep Gio). 5/29 RESPONSE TO ERIC: These were the strange alternatives given during my follow up call with Lifeway today, and is a change in story after the initial conversation with Lifeway documented below. While I understand the custom nature of this product, the manufacturer has NOT completed the product. My family member (whom the lift was purchased for, and your team was well aware) has passed away and we are heartbroken. It's disappointing that Lifeway is choosing profit over ethics, especially when Bruno the manufacturer is in full support of the refund. Lifeway's lack of sympathy and condolences is clearly reflected in Eric's response; there is blatant disregard to the circumstances during such a tragic time in our lives. 5/29 ORIGINAL POST: At this time, I cannot in good conscience recommend this company. A stairlift was ordered for a family member, and sadly that family member has now passed. Bruno (the manufacturer) has not completed the product. It is still in production and has several more weeks of expected construction. I immediately notified our Lifeway representative Gio of the deceased family member. The next day, Gio called me to tell me that while he was able to pause the order, but Bruno the manufacturer was unwilling to refund the product despite not being fully made, and therefore the only 2 options would be to forfeit the $10,000 deposit in totality (and forfeit the product) or pay the additional $5,000 for a product that is no longer needed (and not yet made). I reached out to Bruno the manufacturer directly. They were very surprised to hear this, supportive, and created an escalation case immediately. I notified Gio that Bruno would be in touch due to the escalation case. I asked Gio at Lifeway, if Bruno was willing to complete a refund, would Lifeway honor this as well? Gio then gave me several strange alternatives, changed the initial statement and also said "hypothetically we can enforce the contract". I hope that Lifeway, as a business, will do the right thing for the customer and not proceed to financially damage a widower in grieving... especially when funds from the initial deposit have not been fully used by the manufacturer.

I really didn't want to write this updated review, but I think it's important to inform others of…read moresome of the issues I experienced before ending my lease earlier this year. Before I get to that, Urbana has had many issues since May 2024 when new managers (not management company) came on site. In September of 2024, the fire alarm went off five times. All of them were a false alarm, except for one, and everyone thought it was a false alarm because we were so used to them. This continued on in the months ahead where they would have to do fire alarm testing, which happened at least 3 times in December. There was also a hot water problem. It went on for more than 24 hours, and technically that's considered inhabitable, but they brought us some food from Becca di Beppo to make up for it?! I didn't have hot water for 3 days!! Thank god I was a member at FIT because I went there to shower, but they didn't even give us a rent discount or anything for that month. The "events" were very lackluster compared to what they used to be like Poker Night where they would bring in different casino tables, or a Zoo/carnival day on the rooftop where they actually brought in exotic animals, but those days are gone and now it's a continuous happy hour at a brewery down the street. Their sister property Vici seems to have a lot more events that are akin to what Urbana used to have. I got $11 back from my deposit. My $500 deposit, and I only got back $11. I never painted anything, never even hung up or mounted anything. Everything was in working order. I asked for a breakdown and they said cleaning and "painting the walls." I asked how that's reflected on me since I never even made any holes or nails in the walls and they never got back to me. Also, they used to have bike racks in between cars. They got rid of those because bikes were getting stolen and offered to put some in storage. Well, new management denied my bike was ever in there and when I showed them the email that it was with a picture of my bike, they said that they're not responsible. So, yeah my bike got stolen out of their storage. I really didn't want to leave this review because I had great times at Urbana, but I feel it's warranted.

Absolutely the Worst Living Experience I've Had in 7+ Years…read more I moved into Urbana over seven years ago after calling to ask if the building allowed smoking. The leasing agent said, "Yeah, it's a smoking building. Come on over. You want to check out an apartment? Want a beer?" -- at 11 a.m. That should've been the first red flag. But hey, it's San Diego. People party. And at Urbana, that's what most residents seem to do: drink heavily, act entitled, and leave trash everywhere. Things went from bad to worse. During the pandemic, management showed no concern for resident safety. I had to escalate to upper management just to get hand sanitizer stations installed and basic mask guidelines posted. I was physically attacked in the elevator during COVID -- management's response? Indifference. It gets darker. During the pandemic, there were meth-addicted sex workers living in the building under a stolen identity. It took management forever to do anything about it -- even after repeated complaints. There was also visible gang activity on the sixth floor, because apparently Urbana doesn't really vet who rents there. I was attacked in the lobby by a gang member trying to force his way in, and still, they dragged their feet in taking any meaningful action. More recently, a friend of mine died in his unit from alcohol poisoning. What doesn't help is the 24-hour self-serve beer keg on the rooftop -- yes, really. No ID checks, no oversight. If my kid lived here and got in an accident after drinking at home, I'd be furious. It feels negligent, if not outright illegal. The building is now "autonomous," which means: no front desk, no supervision, and zero accountability. The current property manager, Isaac Stermer, is one of the most inept people I've ever dealt with. He cannot communicate, he delays action until you pester him multiple times, and he clearly doesn't care. When a neighbor left open bags of dog feces in the hallway, it took me three complaints and photo evidence to get a response. There are no security cameras in the elevators. The cameras in the lobby don't even face the front desk. They want to spend money on turning an old office into a "community lounge" instead of improving safety. Priorities are completely backward. Worst of all, when someone dies in the building, they say nothing. No notice, no compassion, no acknowledgment. They'll tell you "we're family," but in reality, they only care about one thing: profit. If you're still thinking of moving here, lock your doors. And don't be surprised if the party never stops, the trash piles up, and management turns a blind eye -- every time.
