John (San Diego Mulch) has supplied black bark chips twice for our home. Our yard needs to be refreshed about every 5 to 6 years. That takes around 5-6 yd.³. John has an excellent selection of bark and other mulch in a variety of colors. We go with the black bark chips. It always looks terrific and it really is very beneficial in terms of keeping moisture in your soil. Each rose in our front yard rose garden has an individual planter. John suggested filling them with mulch. That was a great suggestion as the roses flourished during the hottest part of the summer. The first time I hired John, he offered the option of installing the mulch at an additional price. I felt it was reasonable and I gladly paid John and a helper to cover about 1700 ft.² of various planters. It took the two of them about 2 1/2 hours to lay out 6 yd.³ of black wood chips as well as clean up. They made sure there were no bare spots and did a great job leveling out the bark. He even brought a blower to make sure everything was cleaned up. About five years later, I contacted John again. His prices were still very reasonable. However, his business has grown to the point where he said he only has time to do delivery. I asked if he knew anyone that could do the installation. He got back to me with a friend that was interested. Again, they did an awesome job. The second time I noticed that John bought a new dump truck. It has plenty of capacity and he showed me the amazingly tight turning radius on it. This allows John to deliver bark or mulch to places that other dump trucks can't get into. If you have a tight street or a very small driveway, this is something worth considering. If you don't know how much Bark or mulch you need, head to his website where he has a conversion table that helps you figure out how much material you need based upon total square footage to cover it up to an inch or more. My personal experience was the chart was right on. I have attached a picture of how great the black bark looks. Please note this picture was taken over 10 years ago. If I were to take a current picture, the plants would be much larger, the grass would be brown-ish, but the bark would still look great. If you're interested in quality bark or mulch in different colors at a price that is far less than the big box stores (plus you don't throw away a bunch of plastic bags in the trash), I think you'll be very happy talking with San Diego Mulch. read more

We needed something for our slope and wanted something low maintenance that does not require water. We tried bark coupled with bender board but after awhile that all slid downhill. So happy to find San Diego Mulch! Prior to moving in some months ago, our landlord had hauled in several truck loads of the trashy free stuff from Miramar landfill but had only covered about 2/3 of our yard.
