NORTH PARK NURSERY @ NORTH PARK Parking is available on the street for free, and there's also neighborhood parking across the street, which I definitely recommend. I came to this event for Sip & Swap, where you bring your own plant and swap it with others. I loved the idea and had never been to North Park Nursery before, so I was excited to visit for the first time. The space itself is huge, with plants everywhere, from the left side to the back to the right side. They also have stickers, cards, and all sorts of plant-related items. All the plants looked really healthy, and there's a wide variety to choose from. The event even had drinks, like an agave drink, which was free. The vibe was great, and there's outdoor seating where you can relax and admire the plants. Prices range from about $20 to $70, depending on the type and size of the plant. I especially loved the section in the back called "plants that need extra love." These plants are 50% off, perfect if you want to rejuvenate a slightly struggling plant, and they even come with a vase, so you can care for it on your own schedule. They also have pet-friendly plants, which is great if you have dogs, cats, or other animals at home. Overall, I really loved this place. If you're a plant person, I would definitely stop by if you're in the North Park area. read more

Attached Communal coffee shop, this neighborhood nursery offers a wide variety of indoor and outdoor plants, soil, pottery, basically everything you need for a fresh setup. The impressive array of choices and affordable prices made me fall in love with this place. If I lived in the area, I'd probably buy something new every week! North park nursery is one of the first nurseries I ever been to in San Diego. It is on the smaller side but they have pretty much all the main houseplants you would want. The prices are average for a nursery and they have some beautiful plants! The staff is very nice and the plus is that there is a coffee shop right next door. The only con is that parking is pretty bad since it's mainly street parking. There are only 3 spots in the front but you'll be lucky if it's open because it's usually taken. read more

Such a cool nursery! I stumbled upon North Park Nursery after having a great lunch at the next door Communal. All the plants are awesome, healthy, I like their patio and various spaces. It is an oasis of peace and sun and happy plants in the cool North Park. The employees are friendly, i was explained how to take care of plants I was putting in the sun could perfectly go in darker humid places like the bathroom (I was burning some of my babies in the scorching sun). I purchased this Matilda Poppy a couple of weeks ago at North Park Nursery. It died a few days later - I do have a green thumb! I wanted to see what the root of the problem was & it was shocking when all the soil fell apart and this little plug was in there!!! It didn't have a chance even in heaven of living in this oversized pot! It's HORRIBLE that you are cheating plant people that trust you! I just got breakfast and coffee next door and decided I deserved a plant after a long week (my own version of self care!). I felt so welcomed and the staff here cares deeply for their costumers and plants. I have worked in retail and customer service for 10 years and understand the balance of managing a store and people at the same time. While Katie and Savannah were busy with a rush of customers, they still smiled and greeted me. I also had specific questions about the best way to care for my bromeliads and Katie answered every question I had. I will absolutely be back because I love to support local businesses, the variety of plants, the option to buy a plant that needs more love at a discount, and how friendly and knowledgeable the staff are. A cute little plant nursery. A fair selection of mainly succulents and indoor/shade plants. Not the biggest variety of plants, i didnt find anything i wanted to take home... it may just mean that i already have too many, lol. Anyways, The plants all seem to be in good health with a small section of discounted plants that need a little TLC. Everything is carefully arranged. Aside from plants, they also have a little "gift shop" section and other merchandise any plant parent would love. A tiny parking lot (4 stalls, 2 of which are handicap)... and street parking. SMALL PLANT NURSERY I ain't a plant person. Because the trend today are plants, white furniture/decor, and wood accents around the home but some form of greener could do the soul some good. Looking for a specific mini plant for my new furniture piece - it needs a pop of "life". I had a very specific plant and plant size in mind but unfortunately left this place empty handed. Not by choice, I really wanted to buy from here since I've recommended this place to friends from out of town who have bought here and wanted the same experience... buy from here. I had a really pleasant experience at North Park Nursery. I have two plants and know nothing about them. I called and asked if I could bring them in and get some advice. The person on the phone was more than happy to help and encouraged me to come on in whenever. It was my first time at this shop. The location is in a really cool area, and for me parking was easy (on the street). When I arrived an employee greeted me and happily helped me look at my plants and talk me through how I can do better by them. The shop itself is beautiful, with a solid variety of plants, many labeled with the type of lighting they need. There's a section outside as well, which makes the experience very fun. I will admit I know nothing about plant pricing but the prices seemed reasonable to me. Update* After the business owner left a performative response to my review, he then decided to find my number and call me to talk at me about how he's a black owned business, he's black and has black employees, refused to listen to the feedback he called and claimed he wanted. So unfortunate that he decided to compound the negative experience by harassing me about a legitimate review. I ended up having to disconnect the call. - - - - - - - - Review: I was excited to come into the nursery today to see what kind of selection was available (since they've closed the sister store Eden which had an exceptional selection and customer service to go right along with it)! Unfortunately, to walk into North Park nursery (while Katie and Savannah were at the desk), be stared at, not greeted or asked if I could be helped etc. was a bit uncomfortable. After being in the store 5/10min, I watched every non-person of color be greeted exceptionally well, and I was so disappointed! In addition the plant selection here was minimal, the soil selection was about the only solid thing I noticed here (on this fine Sunday) and prices seemed astronomical. After these observation and type of experience I had, I cannot say I recommend North Park Nursery to any person of color or anyone really. I went to Armstrong nursery about some brown spots on my hibiscus plant. I bought a few leaves as samples. I spoke to a man whose shirt said ,"owner". He was at a loss and said, "you're probably watering it too much". I asked a couple of other employees and they went into a little better detail, but I didn't feel like they were quite sure. My husband found The North Park Nursery on the internet and we decided to try it. It's a small place and the girl at the counter was young, so I figured she may not have a better answer than the Armstrong guys. Don't judge a book by its cover! This sweet girl took a good look at the leaves and pointed out dark spots inside of the brown spots. She explained the problem and showed me a spray to help the plant. She explained that it wouldn't change the dots, but it would help prevent more from coming. She even told me how to and how not to apply it. Super helpful. She showed me two bottles and told me the smaller is cheaper so I may want to get that. I didn't. I bought the big bottle. Her explanation made me realize that I can use it for other plants that I own. I was very happy with the customer service and the knowledge of the sales girl. I definitely recommend this cute little small business. So happy with the customer service. read more

On the day we visited Communal Coffee, we also stopped at the connected North Park Nursery. We were celebrating my 3 year anniversary of a good health record and picked up a plant just like the one my husband purchased when I was in the hospital. The shop was cozy, the staff was informative and our dog was warmly welcomed at both places. One of the young ladies was also wearing a mask with dogs on it. We left satisfied with beverage, food and remembering and celebrating important milestones. Staff are nice but this location is TERRIBLE. I drove around the block and there were NO SPACES on the street (any street in the 4 block perimeter.) Apparently EVERYONE WORKS FROM HOME IN THIS NEIGHBORHOOD ALL DAY -EVERYDAY so I waited for someone to leave for 20/25 minutes so I could park in the only designated space they have. I called and asked what the suggestion was to find parking, and they told me I would have to park a few blocks away and walk over. I have a bad ankle so obviously I did not take that advice and continued to wait for the space to open up. The sign says "30 minute parking" but how long does it really take to buy a plant?? Bought a plant from them and it started wilting within a few days. I tried to let it get used to its environment but kept getting worse. As a plant nursery I'd expect the staff to share knowledge for advice and tips on plant care in the initial buying. I bought a pot with it and no one suggested it would be a bad season to repot or let me know the plant pot should have been a different size. This was all mentioned to me after I brought the dead plant in. The staff there said they'd call the owners/manager to see what they could do but came back and said they don't do refunds or exchanges, even with a receipt. The two staff I saw were nice and apologetic but seems like the rules from management were strict. I'd be very skeptical to shop there again and would rather go somewhere else. I live in the area and not recommending this to anyone else. I saw another review before of someone saying this happened to them too but thought it was a one off. Unfortunate it happened to me too! I've gone to Pigment off 30th and north park way and for not even a main plant store I've had multiple interactions with staff that knew a lot about plants and gave great suggestions on pot sizes etc. and they do free repotting! Bianca...let me tell you, this woman is a life savor, not only did she save a dog from a burning building but also got a cat out of the tree. But for real, she is amazingly helpful. I walked into a nursery with a fishbowl and she helped me design and build my first little succulent garden/Terrarium thing and i am super happy. Will definitely be going back, maybe for a cactus garden next time. This place is fine, not too expensive and a decent ish selection, the kicker though is that I shopped around for about 20 minutes just to finally pick out something and they tell me they don't accept cash when I get to the counter to pay. What... why not mention that to guests' when they first come in. I even offered the exact amount and told them I didn't need any change back and they still said they couldn't bc the owner wasn't present. Ok well tell the owner he is literally turning away business. I said no thank you and turned around and left. Terrible management. I have a green thumb and have taken care of plants my whole life, even my kids got it from me. Every plant I buy from here have pests, and when I tried to bring back the first time to show them, the manager had to come and ask me "are you sure they didn't come from your place?" Employee seemed embarrassed of manager. I gave them the benefit of the doubt, but how dare they accuse the customer, I only had plant for 2 days before I noticed, no way could the infestation be that bad. Notice sometimes employees in the back treating the plants as well, must be for pests. Go to green gardens, nice staff and management and healthy plants. read more

I've gone to North Park Nursery a couple of times and I've had great experiences there! The girls working are so helpful and are knowledgeable about the plants in stock. I got a couple of vegetables and strawberries, as well as houseplants from them. They have a section of plants that are on sale, which I think is worth looking at. I snagged a calathea for 50% off in their "needs more love" section, as well as some cucumber plants for 25% off. They have a nice selection and the shop by itself is just so cute! This is one of my favorite small nurseries in San Diego. As so many people have said here, COVID has made me a plant mom so I've taken quite a bit of trips here. They have a wide selection of houseplants, airplants, succulents, etc. If you're looking for a more rare houseplant, this is a good place to check out. They do change their inventory weekly depending what's in season so make sure to check their Instagram stories as I see they're really consistent with updating inventories. They also have planting supplies, pots, cards, and a mini gift shop in the back left area with other items. Staff have always been helpful. COVID Safety: All staff consistently wear masks and for the indoor area, they limit the capacity in there so accommodate social distancing when it gets busy. Parking is mostly street/neighborhood parking. They have 1-2 spots right in front. read more

I used to live across the street from nursery (and coffee shop). I love nurseries because plants and flowers are lovely but I have a huge black thumb. No pun intended. Seriously though I am the worst with keeping plants alive. North Park Nursery is superb! I went to them the first time to repot a plant my mom bought me that lasted a lot longer than I expected it to. Ha! I went back to NPN to find a desk plant for my new office last July and told the guy helping me that I needed the easiest, most self sufficient plant ever. He walked me around the store and suggested his top picks and I came out with an adorable little green plant (I have no idea what kind of plant) in a white and gold pot. I loved that plant and I made the mistake of trying to repot it after my boyfriend broke the second pot it was in (he also broke the first one, both, accidentally; he's a klutz). It's dead now. Whomp whomp whomp. The boyfriend, however, does have a wonderful green thumb and keeps decorating the balcony with more and more bushes and large plants. Is plantoholic a word? The owners and staff are so good at making their customers feel welcome and sharing their knowledge and expertise on plant and plant care. They are the best nursery I've been to in multiple states. This place is conveniently located right next to Communal Coffee in North Park! They have a nice selections of succulents, indoor/out door plants, pots & stands! They keep this location very organized and clean for a nursery! They have planter boxes that separate Communal's outdoor seating area to their nursery and have a succulent wall around the corner. The workers here are very knowledgable and helpful. I've been looking for a cactus that has those cactus pads and now I know that they have them here! I would really recommend coming here if you wanted to grab a plant, or just to cruise around. There is also another shop hidden in the back too, but I don't think it was part of this nursery. read more

I know I'm not alone when I say Covid made me a plant person. This was one of the first places I ventured out to since March and they had good social distancing measures in place. The lady was very friendly, helping customers, answering phones, essentially being busy but quick to be attentive to questions and when I needed some plants taken down from the ceiling. I follow them on Instagram and I feel like they have regular stock days (seems like Tuesdays are prime time to check out new stuff). They have houseplants but also herbs and succulents, pots and planters as well. Surprisingly, I've kept all my plants alive for nearly two months now. This area of North Park can have tricky parking but I went during the week in the early afternoon and found a spot up the street. They do offer curbside delivery though and there are (I believe) two spots right in front, if you're so lucky to snag one. Kind of sad I never had checked this place out before, but better late than never. read more

I went to Communal and saw that this cute little shop was next door so I decided to walk around and check it out. In my head I thought I was just going to "look around" but I ended up walking out with 3 succulents haha! The shop is really big, there's a lot of selection!! In addition to succulents, there are also a lot of other really pretty plants, pots, and cute little knickknacks. Cute nursery, smaller than most but it has everything you need from flowers, pots, citrus and herbs, cactus and succulents to pre-potted arrangements. The best part is the potting station so you only buy what you use and can add dirt, rocks, stones and moss. Came in on a Monday morning to re-pot my money tree (Pachira aquatica) after having it for several months and was graciously helped by Audrey. She walked me through her thoughts on the next-sized pot I should go for and even suggested the type of soil that would best suit my plant. They have a potting/re-potting station outside that you could do some DIY for a small fee but you can pay a tad more for them to do it for you. I opted for the experts to help me out and Audrey was kind enough to walk me through the process and re-potted the plant with new soil as well! I had a lot of questions and she took the time to answer them appropriately. North Park Nursey was a very welcoming place and they helped a plant noob like myself learn more about the houseplant journey. All in all, the re-potting guidance and a new ceramic pot came out to around $30 and it was well worth it as I was in and out in less than 15 minutes!
