I just brought my Lexus here last week because my boss suggested it and he's been going there for years. The owner was really helpful and explained what was going on. I'm not really picky about getting things done at specific places, but I like to get the information beforehand. I asked him what time to come back he told me about two hours. I went shopping around Pasadena and came back and he explained the issues and let me know approximately how much it would be. He said it would take a few days and referred me to rent a car if I wanted to. The only reason I gave them 4 stars is because I don't really understand the car issues and also another man kept butting into the conversation with me and the owner. Other than that I had a great experience and would go back if I had to. Hopefully I won't and my car is running well. read more

These people SCREWED me! At the end of April, the air conditioning on my 2003 Mini Cooper failed. My usual mechanic was on vacation and referred me to this place. Heros (an owner) told me the compressor had failed, and needed to be replaced, which he did, along with a freon charge, billing me for $1247.00. The AC worked for about 3 weeks, then gradually began to fail, the air getting warmer and warmer. When I took it in, Heros tried to blame the failure on me for driving the car over a bump and damaging the compressor. In was only when I took the car to another mechanic (an expert in car AC) who reported no, the compressor was NOT damaged. He said it failed because Heros had hooked the brand new compressor to the existing, nearly 12 year old system. Car AC is a closed system. Unless it is evacuated perfectly (almost impossible to do with a car this age) then debris and metal shavings quickly foul the new compressor. In order to do the job properly, a WHOLE NEW system needs to be installed...condenser, hoses etc. San Marino had NO idea how to properly install AUTO AC...but instead of just telling me this, they took my money, then tried to blame their incompetence on me. I had to pay an additional $1600 to get the AC fixed PROPERLY. Please...DO NOT give these people your business! read more

Not very good service, everybody is walking around, talking and smoking. There was nobody at front office, I had go to the garage itself to have somebody acknowledge me. I went for a smog check, they didn't start with my car up until 40 minutes has past. Even though the mechanic that talked to me said " it should take no more than 15 minutes. read more

Although I live out of town, my son attends school in Pasadena. On my recent visit, I noticed a terrible vibration when appying the brakes in his car. Not knowing where to go, I checked the local Pennysaver for ads and found Purrfect Auto Service was close-by. I called and talked to Heros and he said to bring it right down. He was able to diagnose and repair the problem for a reasonable price(10% AAA discount available). Highly recommended.. Let me tell you something, I've been living in Pasadena for 10 years and I've always brought my car, my dads and grandparents cars here. These guys are brilliant at what they do. Brought my Honda Civic in cause my Brake pads were worn out and they got the job done quick, in and out and now I can get back on the streets with no problem. I don't know what the fuss is with these few negative reviews but these guys always treat me and with great service, even the other people that come into the place. 10/10 read more

I'm very shocked by the reviews overall because I have never had a bad experience at San Marino Auto. Last time I took my Tacoma here I had to replace my radiator and these guys not only did that, but they returned my car to me having fixed the broken door handle and lock on the passenger side (that I didn't even ask for) free of charge. I've been a frequent customer since I drove a wrangler back in 2010 and I've never been less than satisfied. I have had a lot of trouble finding decent service for affordable prices and I feel like I walk out of there every time taken care of. My only critique is that often the job takes longer than estimated, I normally give myself a few hours of freedom before taking the car in, but it seems these guys are working hard and slammed on the weekends (esp Saturdays). It also helps that they are AAA approved for smog checks, you can't go wrong with that. read more

Heros and his team are excellent. I hate taking my car in for maintenance because i feel like i can't trust any mechanic. Heros gave me a very accurate assessment of what needed to be done and an estimate of the cost. I asked my cousin who is a mechanic if it all sounded reasonable, and he told me that if i had taken the car to the BMW dealership, it would have cost me between $2500-$3000. Heros charge me about half of that. They made the necessary repairs in a timely manner. Now that I know i can trust Heros and his team, I wont wait so long to take my car in next time. Recently I was asked by an acquaintance as to where I had repairs done on my vehicle.I told her about San Marino Auto Service ( formerly Purrrfect Auto Repair) where I have been going for 6+ years. A couple days later she called and directed me to some negative comments on yelp about this shop. I was surprised at some of what I read. My experience with Heros and the rest of the crew has only been positive. From my first time there, when I had an oil leak dripping onto an exhaust pipe and three other shops did not have the time to take care of it , it was late on a Saturday morning and shops were closing early, Heros made the time , did the job correctly, charged a fair price and earned my trust. They have always repaired my cars and explained what needs to be done. Although I usually refrain from writing reviews, this time I decided to do so. Recently I had my car taken to this auto service using roadside assistance, as it wouldn't start because of a failing starter. The truck unloaded my car right in front of the shop, inside their parking lot. After talking to the manager I left, but I was concerned about the fact that the car was about 3 meters outside their service section (garage) and not being able to start, it would be difficult to maneuver it and put it inside the garage. However, I then said to my self "These guys are pros and should know how to do this!". Apparently NOT! Later in the day, I returned to pick up my car. The car started alright, but as soon as I turned the steering wheel, I felt my entire car vibrating very strongly!! I immediately called one of the people working there, and he told me that because the car would not start, they had to push it and maneuver it inside with the steering wheel LOCKED!! First of all, I do not know how one can maneuver a car with a locked steering wheel, but I am also really surprised that they didn't know that this could seriously damage the steering system, which is the case here, as I will explain below. Then that same guy open the hood and realized that there was power steering fluid spilling out (my car was still running) so he closed the cap tightly. Again, how did this happen?? Isn't this their job to check under the hood that everything is fine before they return the cars to their owners? Finally, he told me that the problem would disappear after driving a few miles. I left. Since then, my car's steering system is totally messed up. When turning at low speeds, there are vibrations, the steering wheel is hard to turn, and sometimes the car stalls...really really bad situation!! To recap, yes, they fixed the original problem, but they created another one, which is even more expensive to fix. When I now hear "San Marino Auto Service" I RUN!! And I suggest the same to all!!!! read more
