All the furniture was like this.

This place needs a lot of help. So much dust everywhere and worn-out furniture. We had to call down to the office after 10 pm because when we got into bed the sheets were itchy. We pulled down the covers and saw there was dog hair all over the sheets. The beds are old and very uncomfortable. Didn't like that you couldn't open the windows do to the smoking stations right outside the walking path. Couldn't even use the fan they provided because it was so dirty.

Stayed here for two nights the Thursday and Friday nights before Father's Day for $200/night. The only positive thing was the front desk person was very nice. Other than that, - No housekeeping came to clean the room, give fresh towels, provide toilet paper, or empty trash l. When contacted front desk was told no housekeeping after 5pm and can come pick up towels at the front - No pool towels in the bin by the pool - Needs to be renovated: tiled showers are stained and grout needs to be cleaned, carpets stained, heater/ cooling unit is outdated - Dead flies in the room

It is very painful to post a not so good review. This was a last minute booking and trip for me. I used Expedia to book 2 nights here. I didn't set my expectations too high which was good. The pictures online are not true to what you get. The front desk staff was very friendly and the lobby is cute. I booked an ocean view room it said it had a balcony but what they call the balcony is just the second level walkway. My room was very outdated. There is no AC, they do give you a portable fan. I got there after dark so didn't notice the mold in the bathroom until the next day. The chairs in the room were old and ripped up. The bed was clean as I did check. The lodge grounds are nice. But this place needs some TLC. I would not stay here again and unfortunately wouldn't recommend. It is close to a nice beach and it was less expensive than the places along the beach in Cambria. But you do get what you pay for.

The best thing about this hotel was the cleaning staff. The hotel was clean, and they cleaned it every day we were there. They even gave us extra soap when they noticed we ran out. The ambiance was ok. I thought it was closer to the beach, but there were actually hotels in front of it. The beach was within view, but didn't provide an amazing view. The furniture was not as it looked in the picture. Although it was the same, it looked like their marketing picture was from when they first opened. The furniture definitely had quite a bit of wear and tear. The shower looks like it had some work. I'm short, so I have no idea how it would be for people taller than 5'2". It is in an awkward location. Instead of being high, it's located in the middle of the shower. Also I floor was not lived correctly so the door was a bit rough. The bed....if you get any type of motion sickness, this may not be for you. I was queezy the entire time from any slight movement in the bed. It was super soft but felt pretty old. Pet friendly, buy additional cost. $25 per dog pet day with a 2 pet limit. If animals are not reported its an automatic $150 charge. Also, you have to notify then upon check in as only specific rooms are allotted for pets. Overall it's decent if u go in winter as the prices are much less. Not sure I would may more than $100 a night for this hotel.

    Stained sheets

Booked a room here for a girl's weekend since the price isn't bad convenient location. The carpet is extremely outdated and dirty. There were stains on the ceiling and walls. The beds were extremely loud. Afraid it would break just by sitting on it. We had a hard time sleeping. The window on the bathroom was broken. The pillow cases and sheets were stained as well. We found a desk fan in the closet and wanted to use it since the room was a bit stuffy, but the fan was so dirty. At check in, the staff was really nice. When someone from our group went to the desk to ask for an extra blanket and pillow, they were rude and said they didn't provide housekeeping. Would NOT recommend staying here.

    Ear wig. My sleeping buddy.

Barely above a Motel 6 in presentation, the fact this room cost us almost $200for one night was more than a little surprising. It's efficient, but that's all I can say. No air conditioning, which makes sense, due to them being right across the street from the ocean. Finding an ear wig on my side of the bed as I was getting packed...? Not cool. Not cool at all.

The entrance of the hotel was very promising, but it all came down with the experience that followed. We were standing at the desk for 25 mins, no one came to help us check in. In those 25 mins we kept calling, and we could hear the phone ring, but no one answered. From the same room the receptionist came out after half an hour. He had a foul smell coming from that room, although I dont want to comment on what the smell was. After we were provided the room, the room was dirty, there were soiled towels in the bathroom, bedsheets were soiled, and not replaced. When we mentioned this to the receptionist, he provided a different room on the same floor. The room was facing the parking lot, had ONLY A CEILING FAN, A TABLE FAN, AND NO AIR CONDITIONING. One of the bulbs in the new room was not working either, it was flickering the whole time. The sofa was dirty, and stained, and I didnt feel comfortable using it anyways. The only positive of the room was the pressure of the shower, but the spray modes were not working. Overall a very poor experience.

I was debating whether to stay here or in Cambria for our 1 year anniversary. The $600 price…read moredifference swayed me to come here instead. The pictures are somewhat misleading. In that the ocean view rooms were old and worn. Dirty curtains. Popcorn ceilings. Lots of things patched together. Small rooms and really dark. I was initially disappointed when we got into our first room. It was not at all what the pictures showed. Being initially on the downstairs unit people would walk by our patio while we're sitting there. Basically looking at us and disturbing our peace. Our 2nd unit was upstairs. Which was a lot better. As we had more privacy and a better view of the ocean. But basically the same layout as downstairs. There were alot of things I enjoyed about this resort, which ultimately left me satisfied with my stay here. For example: 1. The grounds was beautiful and expansive. Lots of greenery. They had a sand volleyball court. Multiple fire pits. A giant chess and checkers board. Multiple areas to sit along the cliff. 2. View from the balcony was unmatched. You have a very expansive and view of the ocean. We werent beach front. We were the ocean view balcony rooms. But it was nice too because you were able to see the grounds of the resort leading into the ocean. Rocking chairs and table too were a nice touch on the balcony. 3. Nice beach access and super close too. No street crossing or dodging cars. 4. Front desk. They moved our rooms (to an upstairs room) with no issues. They also have complimentary toiletries at the front desk. 5. Fire place. Our rooms had fire places. With a lot of compressed wood chip bricks. It definitely warmed up the room and made it so much more romantic. 6. Parking. They have parking right infront of your room. So there isnt that much walking from your vehicle to the room. 7. During the weekdays there was no one here!! You literally had the entire resort to yourself which was amazing!! 8. Close proximity to Cambria as well as the elephant seal viewpoint, as well as many other points of interest. Things that could use some improvement: 1. Rooms. They need an update. Their were stains on certain towels, which is disgusting. 2. Room service. We had our room cleaned one day. They didnt throw any of the trash away on the table. They didnt get rid of the used cups. Nor did they empty the trashcans..... 3. Pillows- the pillows tucked! Beds were super comfy. But im sore and my neck and back is tight.... 4. Gym. Again based on the pictures it was this huge thing. But it was extremely small. Served its purpose. But it looked like an after thought. They were also missing handles on their machines. Overall it was a wonderful 5 night stay. The views are unparalleled. I love how much green space is here. After the weekend there was basically no one here. So it was a very relaxing and enjoyable stay.

On the positive side, the staff is friendly, personable, and helpful. The ocean-view rooms have great views of the water, and they also have fireplaces. The hotel offers room service, and there is a restaurant on-site. Although it is not the best restaurant, it is nice to have it as an option. The grounds are beautiful and expansive. There are fire pits, multiple benches along the bluff where you can sit and enjoy the view, two pools, a volleyball court, giant chess, and a giant checkerboard. On the not-so-positive side, the hotel could use some serious attention. It felt dated and worn. I also found the pictures to be a bit misleading. The photo of the room I booked showed a seating area with a table, but that was not present in my room. Noise was also an issue. I was on the ground floor, and every time someone in the room above me got up, I could hear every step they took. The bathroom fan in our room sounded like a jet engine. On previous trips, the hotel was fairly empty, so I didn't notice the noise as much. On this trip, however, the hotel was almost full, and I was awakened repeatedly. Overall, there are definitely things I like about the Cavalier, especially the location, views, grounds, and staff. But given the condition of the rooms and the noise issues, I will probably look at other options next time.
