Absolutely amazing stay! We love this hotel. Everything was super clean and just recently remodeled. The vibe is 1960s cool with a lot of cars and motorcycles memorabilia. The manager Joe and Vanessa are lovely and accommodated our late check in. The owner Buddy is an absolute funny riot of a person he made us super duper welcomed! I literally can't think of a better hotel stay than this. Rates are super reasonable and the friendly atmosphere extends to everything that they do. Highly recommend! We were hosted at this Inn for our motorcycle club spooktacular event. They were so friendly and hospitable. Eager to make sure you were happy. The rooms are inviting with an old time feel to it. They great you when you check in with chocolate cookies. They have a nice little breakfast in the morning to get you going for the day. My room was clean and I had a view facing the ocean. There is a nice little restaurant next door with a bar to end your day. The location was not far from the elephant seals, Hurste Castle and shopping. Perfect location and friendly atmosphere. Moto Heaven in San Simeon We had an amazing time at our Indian Motorcycle Spooktacular 2025 event hosted at the Coast Riders Inn! The staff was incredibly friendly and accommodating, making sure we had everything we needed in the indoor lounge (rec room)--from banner hangers to arranged tables and chairs, and a perfect setup for our food and drink stations. Our rooms were comfortable and full of fun retro car and motorcycle décor, adding to the biker spirit of the weekend. We especially loved relaxing together in the lounge area by the pool and hot tub after a long day of rides and festivities. It is an excellent place to stay in the San Luis Obispo county. Found this gem with "exceptional" ratings via Yelp and Hotels.com Owners Buddy and Jane are very nice and helpful. They greeted us with the warmest of hellos during check-in and Buddy showed my son and I his collections of Lego cars & bikes and a dancing baby Groot. The place is decorated with a plethora of racing ornamentation. There's a white Porsche 911 and a Triumph Bonneville parked in the premises. Buddy claims "the bank owns the motel" :) and that they took over the business in 2020 at the start of the pandemic. Technically, a mom and pop operation, renovations have clearly and steadily been worked on this formerly run-down inn. Beds are comfortable and appliances are retro themed. There's a daily continental breakfast served from 7:30 to 10:00. Tables are set-up in the pool/jacuzzi room. We paid an extra $10 daily to charge our car with the facilities EV outlet. It was worth it as charging stations in the area are far and between. Give them a shot when in California's Central Coast. read more

The owners (and staff) of this establishment are wonderful! I stayed at this location years ago- different management- and it's SUCH an upgrade!! I stayed here this past weekend with my Indian Motorcycle Riding Group. The pool area was a great place for our Pizza Party!! They offer a simple "breakfast" in the morning - instant oatmeal, pastries, juices, coffee etc. The rooms were clean, comfy bed, a mini fridge and freezer in each room, coffee maker and connecting rooms if requested. Overall, a wonderful stay and it was exactly what we needed. We definitely recommend this place to anyone looking to stay right off the highway close to attractions nearby like the Hearst Castle or the elephant seals. We had a one night pit stop here overnight along our road trip from SD to SF. This was our first time staying in a hotel that wasn't a chain like marriott or hilton and we were definitely pleased and impressed with everything. It was just as nice as any chain hotel out there, but it was even more special because the owners ran the front desk and you can tell that they put a lot of heart into this place and they were just the most kind and genuine people ever. They were so helpful and gave so many recs of what to do nearby and local tips- I wish we got to stay longer! Although the hotel is right off of PCH-1, we weren't able to hear any cars on the highway, and it was very quiet during our stay. Room amenities: fast Wi-Fi, memory foam mattresses, toiletries in the shower, a brand new AC and heat unit in every room, plenty of seating in the room and a nice table to eat or work at. A large nice new dresser, large mirror, and plenty of lighting. Flat screen TV, hangers in the closet, coffee pot, microwave, fridge and freezer, cute decor, and... free water bottles in the room! The room and bathroom were very, very clean and you can tell that it was recently remodeled. I went to the front desk to ask for any plastic silverware they had and they kindly let me know that they are trying their best to be sustainable and good to the environment so all they had was compostable silverware- heck yeah!! North of ragged-point hwy 1 was closed at the time but we didn't care. If you enjoy clean, comfortable, casual, older, but nicely renovated hotels decently priced, this is the place. The costs riders inn is the perfect seaside hotel stop for a roadtrip. (Writing this as we're leaving!) the rooms and bathrooms were clean and had microwave, refrigerator, Roku tv, and cable. We booked one night here at Coaster Inn. It is under new ownership and they are working hard and succeeding at remodeling the Inn. We were greeted by an extremely clean lobby. The person who checked us in had great information on where to eat and what to do locally. They gave us two complimentary toy cars and two large cookies. We were here for the Hearst Castle tours. They have an indoor pool, the sauna is currently roped off for repairs. For families, they had a good collection of board games and tables to play them at in the same area around the indoor pool. We had an ocean view. They stated that they have 4 rooms with this view. When we got to the room we were pleasantly surprised by the clean smell, new carpet, new mini fridge and new cute retro microwave. The bed frame, mattress, and bedding looked new. Some of the furniture was a little aged but very nice. The bathroom was clean and toilet sanitized. When we checked out the next morning, the lady was polite and happy. She offered us free coffee and an assortment of breakfast items like danishes, cinnamon bread, and fruit. The items we chose were fresh. We were upstairs right as you come up the stairs. I was worried that the traffic of people coming up and down the stairs would keep us awake. I am happy to say that this was an extremely quiet Inn. We couldn't hear anyone stomping on the stairs or talking as they came up and down them. I felt safe here. Some electrical outlets wouldn't hold my charger, but you have to consider how expensive it could be to change that out in every room. I used the outlet on bathroom counter and it held tight. They also provided a hair dryer. They did not have an iron for clothes. There is free coffee in the room with two bottles of water. I am looking forward to seeing this inn reach their goals of being fully remodeled. I will definitely be returning to the Inn and I will be telling all of my friends about it. read more

My room was very spacious , clean ad had coffee maker, frig, microwave. Bed was super comfortable. From here was only about 10 min drive to Hearst Castle Visitor center, same to downtown Cambria ( for dinner). Was about 40 min to Morro Bay Beach/ Rock area (best part!). read more

Omg! This place is amazing now! So happy it changed ownership! This place used to be the Courtesy, and while my family and I made many fun memories there, the hotel was ran into the ground by the people who were managing it. You could definitely tell the previous managers did not care whatsoever about their guests having a good experience, and they did not take care of the property whatsoever, letting it fall into disrepair, to put it mildly. As we stayed there throughout the years, our experiences gradually got worse and worse. Covid then happened, and we were not able to come to San Simeon for two years. Fast forward to 2022, and we are back here once again. My mom and I tried to book the Courtesy, but I could not find the website at all for it. We ended up staying somewhere else and decided to pay the Courtesy a visit to find out that, lo and behold, it had changed ownership and was under a new name! Hallelujah! We were able to meet the owner, Buddy, as well as the lady who works the front desk, whose name is Valerie. They are sweet and down-to-earth people who seem very helpful and informational. Valerie informed me that since Buddy has taken over, the whole place has undergone a renovation, starting from the inside and working outwards. We asked to see some of the rooms, and she obliged. I took pictures once we were inside, and wow, what a difference! New flooring, new TV screens, new heaters, new furniture, new mattresses, new bedding, new lighting and charging stations, updated bathrooms, updated lobby, and my most favorite of all: miniature refrigerators, microwaves, and coffee pots that all coordinate in matching colors! (Look at my pictures to see what I mean.) She mentioned the electrical and plumbing had all been fixed as well! They are currently working on the pool area, and what they have accomplished so far looks amazing. I asked if they plan on re-painting the exterior, and they definitely plan on doing so, as well as making improvements to the parking lot. Oh, there's also a charging station for electric vehicles! Needless to say, bye-bye Courtesy, and hello Coast Riders Inn! My family and I are psyched to be able to stay at our favorite place that now is undergoing much-needed improvements, has an approachable owner and workers that care about their guests, and feels like some love and caring is being poured back into this place. Lots to like about this room. Most furniture and appliances look new or almost new. I always appreciate a wood (or wood laminate?) floor, and they've gone above and beyond with small rugs (that looked new) beside the bed and in front of the sinks. The room is spacious and there's a small couch at the foot of the bed so you can relax and watch TV, which has lots of free content or you can connect your streaming services. I appreciate the usb ports on the bedside lamps... which have dimmer knobs which I love. The outside could use an update, some fresh paint in a bold color, to make it more inviting. They have a car theme going on; some fun car-related murals would give this place the personality it deserves. (from what I read, the motel changed hands just a couple years ago... maybe outside renovations are in the pipeline) read more

Just opened under new management (December 2021). Formerly the Courtesy Inn. I often stay next door at the Silver Surf (which I like) and came over for a tour. They've remodeled all the rooms (still working on it, in fact). New beds, new heaters, be new decor. Looks nice, if a bit sterile. Retro-looking fridge and microwave is kinda cool. Indoor pool with tropical plants around. Breakfast included! (That's become a rarity, what with Covid.) A short walk down to a dramatically pretty beach. A few of the rooms have an ocean view. I've found San Simeon a pleasant place to stay, and I come here often. And it's close to cutesy Cambria and Hearst Castle, and is the gateway to stunning Big Sur. The new owner is into Triumph motorcycles, and a couple are sitting around. read more

The facility itself is great and the staff is very nice. The location is very close to Cambria and the ocean. There is even a pool Jacuzzi indoors for use. Parking is easy and it seems safe. Unfortunately, the room I was in did not facilitate sleep. I'm not a light sleeper by any means, but the wall heater would kick in randomly, making a lot of noise and the fridge would kick in randomly making a lot of noise. I ended up turning both off, but I think there might be a boiler room behind me, because there was bubbling sounds all night as well. I had to use the extra blankets since it's December which only helped a little bit. Additionally, the chemicals used to clean the bathrooms were so strong when I came in and I could smell it all night in my sleep. The room comes with lots of amenities, including the microwave, fridge, coffee maker, and toiletries. The bed was extremely firm and the frame creaked every time I moved. read more

The NICEST couple is managing this place, but in fairness to other guests, it should be noted that these issues mark the place somewhat: It is an old, rusty, place that has, though, been fixed up indoors. The Jacuzzi is not heated unless you ask for it or at least make sure it is. The managers turn the heater off at times. This saves resources, so is OK, but you just need to really check, also for closing times. Everything seems to be shut down in this area around 8 pm. The area rugs indoors are FILTHY. Do not wear white socks! Do not count on breakfast - it is sugary, fat, and completely unhealthy. Go to a nearby restaurant instead. The electronic key cards often don't work read more
