The location of this hotel is great. Close enough to Hearst castle and Cambria. They offer a good variety of pastries, beverages and fruit for breakfast, and rooms are very well equipped with all necessities. The have plenty of seating in the lobby. Rooms are only equipped with a mini fridge. A microwave is kept in the kitchen area downstairs. I think the only issue I had with the hotel is how dated the carpet is. Could just be my sensitive nose, but I get a bit of a musty scent. It could use a bit of a spruce. But for the price, location and amenities, this place holds up.

The room was Descent. We stayed there for 2 nights while visiting Hearst Castle. The location was why I stayed here. Close to the Castle, right next to a Mexican restaurant and near a Liquor store. Short walk to the Beach as well. My 2 negatives are that it has No safe for valuables and the fridge is sooo small. Staff was great and very helpful, gave recommendations for Restaurants and local places to visit. Respect to the lady who oversees the Continental breakfast area. She stayed on top of everything.

    - Excellent customer service: front desk was very friendly and informative. - Nice decor: The lobby was fully decorated for Christmas time. It felt very cozy. There are also lots of books and board games available for use in the lobby! - Quiet Stay: I believe the rooms are soundproofed because we weren't disturbed by any sound from other rooms. - Free Breakfast: although we didn't get to try it because we were busy with....other things lol But I wish we had tried it. It is available 7am-10am! - Free Parking, Coastal Trail behind hotel, beautiful ocean views and surrounding area, Hearst San Simeon State Park just down the road. * We stayed in a Jr. Suite upstairs and loved it! lots of windows for fresh air and nice view, king sized bed, loveseat sofa, fireplace, wifi, large deep tub easily fits two people, standing shower with glass door, room was spacious enough to fit our massage table

Ceiling water stains causing rancid smells

Our room smelled terrible... like mold or mildew... the ceiling had water stains that were grey. The smell would not go away, we understood the recent rain but i feel that people should not be staying in these rooms with these rancid smells. The couch was beyond disgusting... it was a brown couch that's turned blackish from being so old and over used... the carpet flooring is sooo worn out and flat that you can feel every bump underneath the carpet...the carpet was so dirty and turning blackish as well. The only reason i'm applying 1 star is because the staff was kind and friendly, as well as the breakfast being decent. Additionally, the online photos are NOTHING like how the hotel is in person. Definitely wish we stayed at the Cavalier next door.

The outside doesn't look nice but inside isn't bad at all. It's nice and cute. I paid $255 for 1 night but it's also a holiday weekend. This hotel is more of a 3 star hotel. Maybe a bit dated but it's great for a 1 night stay. Stayed here for 1 night before heading to Hearst Castle the next morning. Staff were super friendly and went above and beyond. We asked if they had a hex tool. They didn't and could've just left it at that but staff said he would call another hotel I believe under the same ownership which he didn't have to do. Minutes later we got a call & was informed it would be here in 5mins. Awesome service! Thank you SO much! I would definitely stay here again next time I'm in town. Breakfast isn't fancy or anything just continental but it's still something. Coffee, cereal, bagels, toast, yogurt, milk, juice, waffle maker, hard boiled egg, oatmeal, little muffins, hot water, decaf coffee, teas, apple and bananas.

It could've been better. The Morgan is not the worst place I have stayed at but it's nowhere near mid tier hotels. This is below average hotel. At almost $300/night and we stayed 2 nights, its not what you would expect for $600 plus tax. Luckily, I used miles to stay here and ended up 2 nights free to visit San Simeon and the surrounding areas. I had booked a "standard room" and usually request 1 king bed but ended up with 2 queen beds. Whatever, I use the extra bed for luggage and storage anyways. We checked in pretty late around 1030PM at night. Little did I know, there are 2 buildings on this property. Building 1 is the main building you check in at. Building 2 is past the Mexican restaurant (they used to own it but sold it). We stayed on the 2nd floor in building 2 room 416. The property is old and in need of a face lift to make it modern. You are hit with a strong smell of Pine sol or cleaning agent the whole time in your room. Comes with a small restroom, a tiny TV and a sitting area. Bed was sunken in. Pillows were flat. Cheap linens. Bedsheets moves and starts unraveling off the bed. Overall, you can tell everything is dated and you feel like you're in an old motel. There is free breakfast that includes water down OJ and apple juice, apples, cereal and pastries. I have stayed in cheaper, nicer and modern hotels with free hot breakfast. The location is everything and close to all the sites including Hearst Castle, Elephant Seal Point, the beach, Restaurants, State Parks, etc. You can not beat the location.

Huge room, We spent one day since we just exploring san simeon. Very chill place. next to the beach. Cleanliness: 8 out of 10 Service:8 out of 10 Breakfast: 9 out 10 ( Plenty of selection for a typical continental breakfast) Overall 8 of 10 rating for us.

All their screens in the hotel in our room were broken, letting in flies and dust and debris

So when I booked this hotel on Priceline, it said it was pretty decent. The pictures looked good but when I got there, it was horrible. The room was kind of nasty. The windows were dirty. The view was horrible. The service of the hotel was good. We asked pillows. They gave us extra pillows. We asked for an extra blanket. They gave it to us no questions they brought up quickly, but the hotel is old rundown, and needs a lot of work as you can tell from the pictures it's just Needs a rehab when I come and stay here again no, I would not stay here again unless they remodel the whole hotel and made it a little bit better and nicer and more appealing.

In that the ocean view rooms were old and worn. Dirty curtains. Popcorn ceilings. Lots of things patched together. Small rooms and really dark. I was initially disappointed when we got into our first room. It was not at all what the pictures showed. Being initially on the downstairs unit people would walk by our patio while we're sitting there. Basically looking at us and disturbing our peace. Our 2nd unit was upstairs. Which was a lot better. As we had more privacy and a better view of the ocean. But basically the same layout as downstairs. There were alot of things I enjoyed about this resort, which ultimately left me satisfied with my stay here. For example: 1. The grounds was beautiful and expansive. Lots of greenery. They had a sand volleyball court. Multiple fire pits. A giant chess and checkers board. Multiple areas to sit along the cliff. 2. View from the balcony was unmatched. You have a very expansive and view of the ocean. We werent beach front. We were the ocean view balcony rooms. But it was nice too because you were able to see the grounds of the resort leading into the ocean. Rocking chairs and table too were a nice touch on the balcony. 3. Nice beach access and super close too. No street crossing or dodging cars. 4. Front desk. They moved our rooms (to an upstairs room) with no issues. They also have complimentary toiletries at the front desk. 5. Fire place. Our rooms had fire places. With a lot of compressed wood chip bricks. It definitely warmed up the room and made it so much more romantic. 6. Parking. They have parking right infront of your room. So there isnt that much walking from your vehicle to the room. 7. During the weekdays there was no one here!! You literally had the entire resort to yourself which was amazing!! 8. Close proximity to Cambria as well as the elephant seal viewpoint, as well as many other points of interest. Things that could use some improvement: 1. Rooms. They need an update. Their were stains on certain towels, which is disgusting. 2. Room service. We had our room cleaned one day. They didnt throw any of the trash away on the table. They didnt get rid of the used cups. Nor did they empty the trashcans..... 3. Pillows- the pillows tucked! Beds were super comfy. But im sore and my neck and back is tight.... 4. Gym. Again based on the pictures it was this huge thing. But it was extremely small. Served its purpose. But it looked like an after thought. They were also missing handles on their machines. Overall it was a wonderful 5 night stay. The views are unparalleled. I love how much green space is here. After the weekend there was basically no one here. So it was a very relaxing and enjoyable stay.

On the positive side, the staff is friendly, personable, and helpful. The ocean-view rooms have great views of the water, and they also have fireplaces. The hotel offers room service, and there is a restaurant on-site. Although it is not the best restaurant, it is nice to have it as an option. The grounds are beautiful and expansive. There are fire pits, multiple benches along the bluff where you can sit and enjoy the view, two pools, a volleyball court, giant chess, and a giant checkerboard. On the not-so-positive side, the hotel could use some serious attention. It felt dated and worn. I also found the pictures to be a bit misleading. The photo of the room I booked showed a seating area with a table, but that was not present in my room. Noise was also an issue. I was on the ground floor, and every time someone in the room above me got up, I could hear every step they took. The bathroom fan in our room sounded like a jet engine. On previous trips, the hotel was fairly empty, so I didn't notice the noise as much. On this trip, however, the hotel was almost full, and I was awakened repeatedly. Overall, there are definitely things I like about the Cavalier, especially the location, views, grounds, and staff. But given the condition of the rooms and the noise issues, I will probably look at other options next time.

There's also a nice-sized swimming pool, although I didn't have a chance to use it during my stay. One of the unexpected highlights was the afternoon chocolate chip cookies--they were fresh and delicious. Fresh coffee was also available throughout the day. Breakfast was better than I expected, with eggs, bacon, sausage, biscuits and gravy, a variety of breads and cereals, fruit, yogurt, and other standard breakfast items. They even had a nice waffle iron and the waffles it made were excellent. If I had one criticism, it would be that the walls are a bit thin. The room is sparse, but the one positive I will say is the bed was clean and comfortable. The bathroom was really bad. We had no soap. They have dispensers attached to the walls by the sink and in the shower for soap and lotion. The sink dispenser had lotion in the soap dispenser and the other was empty. Neither of the shower dispensers even worked so we literally had no soap whatsoever in the bathroom. Luckily, we travel with our own. All the doors in the room were filthy and marked up, which leads you to believe how clean is it really? The indoor pool and Jacuzzi was dirty looking and very unappealing.
