NOTE: THIS HOTEL HAS NO AIR CONDITION, CEILING FAN AND TABLE FANS ONLY. We found this hotel listed as a 3 star, just a 5-7 minute drive out of Cambria at a reasonable price. The entrance of the hotel was very promising, but it all came down with the experience that followed. We were standing at the desk for 25 mins, no one came to help us check in. In those 25 mins we kept calling, and we could hear the phone ring, but no one answered. From the same room the receptionist came out after half an hour. He had a foul smell coming from that room, although I dont want to comment on what the smell was. After we were provided the room, the room was dirty, there were soiled towels in the bathroom, bedsheets were soiled, and not replaced. When we mentioned this to the receptionist, he provided a different room on the same floor. The room was facing the parking lot, had ONLY A CEILING FAN, A TABLE FAN, AND NO AIR CONDITIONING. One of the bulbs in the new room was not working either, it was flickering the whole time. The sofa was dirty, and stained, and I didnt feel comfortable using it anyways. The only positive of the room was the pressure of the shower, but the spray modes were not working. Overall a very poor experience. read more

SERIOUS BED BUG INFESTATION - DO NOT COME Never in my life have I seen this many bed bugs in one room. We were so tired when we arrived at the hotel that we forgot to check for bed bugs - worst mistake of my life. Woke up in the morning and found at least 3 bed bugs on the bed and 5 more crawling on the wall. The bites showed up a day later and they were everywhere - we got bit on the hands, arms, legs, chest, neck, even our face. There were at least 60 bites on my partner's body, so the level of infestation is unthinkable. I now have to throw out all my clothes that I brought to avoid bringing any bed bugs back home with me. This level of bed bug infestation is honestly shocking and an awful negligence on the hotel's part to not catch this issue, which is hard to miss since the bed bugs everywhere, before they put their guests at risk. read more

The location of this hotel is great. Close enough to Hearst castle and Cambria. They offer a good variety of pastries, beverages and fruit for breakfast, and rooms are very well equipped with all necessities. The have plenty of seating in the lobby. Rooms are only equipped with a mini fridge. A microwave is kept in the kitchen area downstairs. I think the only issue I had with the hotel is how dated the carpet is. Could just be my sensitive nose, but I get a bit of a musty scent. It could use a bit of a spruce. But for the price, location and amenities, this place holds up. read more

The room was Descent. We stayed there for 2 nights while visiting Hearst Castle. The location was why I stayed here. Close to the Castle, right next to a Mexican restaurant and near a Liquor store. Short walk to the Beach as well. My 2 negatives are that it has No safe for valuables and the fridge is sooo small. Staff was great and very helpful, gave recommendations for Restaurants and local places to visit. Respect to the lady who oversees the Continental breakfast area. Our room smelled terrible... like mold or mildew... the ceiling had water stains that were grey. The smell would not go away, we understood the recent rain but i feel that people should not be staying in these rooms with these rancid smells. The couch was beyond disgusting... it was a brown couch that's turned blackish from being so old and over used... the carpet flooring is sooo worn out and flat that you can feel every bump underneath the carpet...the carpet was so dirty and turning blackish as well. The only reason i'm applying 1 star is because the staff was kind and friendly, as well as the breakfast being decent. Additionally, the online photos are NOTHING like how the hotel is in person. The outside doesn't look nice but inside isn't bad at all. It's nice and cute. I paid $255 for 1 night but it's also a holiday weekend. This hotel is more of a 3 star hotel. Maybe a bit dated but it's great for a 1 night stay. Stayed here for 1 night before heading to Hearst Castle the next morning. Staff were super friendly and went above and beyond. We asked if they had a hex tool. They didn't and could've just left it at that but staff said he would call another hotel I believe under the same ownership which he didn't have to do. Minutes later we got a call & was informed it would be here in 5mins. Awesome service! Thank you SO much! I would definitely stay here again next time I'm in town. Breakfast isn't fancy or anything just continental but it's still something. Stayed here for one night and were able to bring our dogs along with us. They were so excited about their first hotel stay! Key access needed to enter the building. There are 2 different buildings and a restaurant in between the two. Overall a good experience, not far from elephant seal view point in San Simeon and not far from Cambria. It could've been better. The Morgan is not the worst place I have stayed at but it's nowhere near mid tier hotels. This is below average hotel. At almost $300/night and we stayed 2 nights, its not what you would expect for $600 plus tax. Luckily, I used miles to stay here and ended up 2 nights free to visit San Simeon and the surrounding areas. I had booked a "standard room" and usually request 1 king bed but ended up with 2 queen beds. Whatever, I use the extra bed for luggage and storage anyways. We checked in pretty late around 1030PM at night. Little did I know, there are 2 buildings on this property. Building 1 is the main building you check in at. Building 2 is past the Mexican restaurant (they used to own it but sold it). We stayed on the 2nd floor in building 2 room 416. The property is old and in need of a face lift to make it modern. You are hit with a strong smell of Pine sol or cleaning agent the whole time in your room. Comes with a small restroom, a tiny TV and a sitting area. Bed was sunken in. Pillows were flat. Cheap linens. Bedsheets moves and starts unraveling off the bed. Overall, you can tell everything is dated and you feel like you're in an old motel. There is free breakfast that includes water down OJ and apple juice, apples, cereal and pastries. I have stayed in cheaper, nicer and modern hotels with free hot breakfast. The location is everything and close to all the sites including Hearst Castle, Elephant Seal Point, the beach, Restaurants, State Parks, etc. You can not beat the location. read more

The whole family really enjoyed staying here this past summer. The room was large enough for the kids and our dog (labrador) too. (Yes; this hotel is pet friendly!) There is an outdoor area for the dogs to use the restroom too, which is also quite serene. We have been avid Pismo Beach enthusiasts, until we found this gem. We loved Pismo, but it was getting so expensive to get a hotel room that we decided to try something new and I'm glad we did. The rooms were a good size and comfortable for our family over the course of several days. They have large bay windows which, if I recall correctly, had a partial ocean view when it wasn't overcast. You can walk around the corner and be on a quiet, interesting beach. It's quite interesting because there is a large rock you can walk onto that leads into the waves and you can explore a rockier terrain if you keep going down the shore. It's beautiful. This beach is fairly overcast from my experience, but if you are looking for a beach with more sunshine, you can jump in the car for a sunnier beach ten minutes away near Cambria. The kids and dog ran wild at the beaches we visited. It was refreshing to find a place that everyone in the family really enjoyed. The Coastal Discovery Center is right next to this hotel. They had a great breakfast at this hotel, which overlooked the pool area. The staff there was always friendly and always cleaning! To top it off, the prices here are really competitive. Needless to say, we can't wait to go back this summer! read more

I think The Morgan Hotel is a 3-star hotel. It is perhaps a slightly aging celebrity, but the rooms are comfortably outfitted, the atmosphere is super pleasant, they have a heated pool even in winter, there is apparently accommodation for pet boarding while there, and the service is excellent. I give a particular nod to the night desk man, who provided outstanding service to myself and clearly to other patrons. So when I booked this hotel on Priceline, it said it was pretty decent. The pictures looked good but when I got there, it was horrible. The room was kind of nasty. The windows were dirty. The view was horrible. The service of the hotel was good. We asked pillows. They gave us extra pillows. We asked for an extra blanket. They gave it to us no questions they brought up quickly, but the hotel is old rundown, and needs a lot of work as you can tell from the pictures it's just Needs a rehab when I come and stay here again no, I would not stay here again unless they remodel the whole hotel and made it a little bit better and nicer and more appealing. read more

The filthy carpets, the mildew smell of the rooms, the broken shower head, the dirty couch in the "deluxe" king room, the sheets with red stains on them, the paper thin windows/walls, the limited parking, the room door that wouldn't close all of the way. I really enjoyed my stay at The Morgan. We were in town to see Hearst Castle, and we tend to vacation in the off-season when there are less people around. The Morgan was well outfitted, the room was comfortable, the climate was good, the view was beautiful, the atmosphere of the hotel was very peaceful quiet and pleasant. You don't always find that in a hotel. I would also recommend the staff at the Morgan. The night desk man was excellent, and very courteous and helpful to us. If you are staying in San Simeon and you would like a nice experience, I highly recommend The Morgan. This hotel is by far the nicest on the strip of motels in this area. Keep that in mind if you're looking for a place to crash on your way to the Hearst Castle. When we checked into the hotel there was a child having a temper tantrum. It was clear that it was an employee's daughter. Fine. We were told that breakfast was complimentary in the lobby and that we were in the adjacent building. There are two physical buildings and there is a Mexican restaurant in the middle. We excited the first building and walked into the second building and it was super warm. We were happy because it was a cold night. As we walked into our hotel room, the room was the same temperature and there was no thermostat. Weird. We had an electric fireplace in the room and couldn't use it because it was so warm in our room. Both my friend and I are from Hawaii so we love a toasty temperature but it was uncomfortable and where was the heat coming from? The smell of this hotel is the other thing I couldn't get over. It smelled like pine sol was dumped everywhere and overall was disgusting. We opened our windows to let fresh air in and slept with them open all night. The beds are not comfortable, you can feel the coils from the mattress. The bed linen is cheap and so are the pillows. Breakfast consisted of three cereals, fake juice, pastry, bread, hard boiled eggs and yogurt. The eating area is very small and good luck finding a table. The same child from the night before was wandering around the area. I forgot my pajamas on the hook inside the bathroom. I was in a rush to check out of this hotel. I sent an inquiry on the hotel website and called- they don't have it. Overall, location, location, location. But I will personally look for an air Bnb the next time I'm in the area. read more

We've been staying here for years as the rooms are spacious and the rates are fairly reasonable. This April of '23 our King room was $114 per night on a Sunday-Tuesday stay. It's an older property, but they do a pretty good job keeping it clean and comfortable. Continental breakfast is included: cereal, toast, bagels, muffins, cinnamon rolls, yogurt and usually some sort of Jimmy Dean breakfast sandwich that can be heated in the microwave. The last couple of times here the coffee has been bad, no flavor brown water. But if that's the worst thing, I'll still come back! read more

I made a last minute plan to visit San Simeon one Friday morning and this was one of the hotels in the area that was pet friendly and close to the beach. We were given the room on the first floor close to the lobby since we had our pet with us. This was in march (non peak season) so there weren't many guests at the hotel, we kinda had the place to ourselves. Staff was pretty friendly. Morning breakfast is free but pretty basic - cereal, fruits, muffins etc. The room was ok, we just stayed here for a day so not a big deal. It was large and spacious and if you leave the window open you can hear the beach waves in the night. Wifi was strong and worked all throughout my stay. I am towards end of a coastal road trip that began in Santa Barbara. Last night I stayed at The Morgan. There's not been a soul that has been rude or off-putting at any hotel so far, but here, the staff is exceptionally nice and helpful. I was considering staying another night this morning because of the beaches and after the front desk woman (same as yesterday) accommodated me on trying to approximate an iced vanilla coffee from a cup of brewed drip. The auxiliary building contains two communal microwaves and two chairs. In order to use the pool or breakfast area, be prepared to walk a little ways down the street, past a Mexican food restaurant. Spent a night there on April 18, 2024 with my spouse and my furry baby on my way to the Hearst Castle. Reasonable charge for pet $25 comparing with others for $75. The hotel including my room is very clean. I got an ocean view room with a fireplace which was perfect for a cold night (in the low 50 Fahrenheit). 5 minutes walk to the ocean front park ( my dog loves it). The only downside is I can't hear the ocean waves from my room (personal preference). The heated indoor pool is a plus since there's not much to do at night in town . It's a good choice to stay for a stop over to the Hearst Castle or an on going road trip. read more

We were very happy with our stay here. My guy and myself travel quite a bit and I was very impressed with the hospitality of the staff at check in. The room was beautifully decorated in a romantic and elegant manner and our King suite had also a fireplace and very comfortable couch in addition to a huge bathroom and dressing area. The pool is heated and was very enjoyable. The location is perfect for visiting the Hearst Castle 6 min up the road and the Elephant Seal overlook is about 14 min in the same direction. Yup. This is the tiny village of San Simion. We stayed here and it's lovely and I love seeing the seals. I live close by in the five cities and love cruising HWY 1 to get to this village. My boyfriend and I were able to get suite for our anniversary over the weekend. It was affordable. We had good service. The only thing is take away one star because of course we had a blackout for over five hours. But honestly my boyfriend and I laughed because of course it would happen, and absolutely in a little village, San Simion lol. The complementary breakfast was good. They offer Belgian waffles, cereal, fruit, coffee etc. We checked out and were given a humble discount for the inconvenience. We go to sleep early anyway. The parking was pretty good too. I would have loved to have given this hotel more stars , but it just did not deliver what it's website stated. While it is very conveniently located near Hearst Castle, there are much cuter places to stay with beach front that are only a couple additional miles down the road in Cambria. I booked a Junior suite that did have a peek of the ocean, but I also got a peek of the garbage bins and the homeless individual rummaging through them. The staff at check in was nice and very efficient, but not super personable. The suite was in the second building on the other side of a restaurant that is not affiliated with the property. The room was a decent size and was very clean. Several other reviews complained about the pine sol scent, but it was not a bother. I personally witnessed staff cleaning and disinfecting a room and it made me feel more comfortable. The room appears to have had some upgrades, including the bathroom, but the second vanity counter was old and laminated, but offered additional space to get dressed. The furniture is a little worn and does not really go with the Julia Morgan theme that the web-site sells. The bed wasn't uncomfortable, but it was cheap in quality & the linens appeared a tad dingy. The advertised continental breakfast was not great and for someone with a dairy allergy, I could not eat a thing. Overall, the staff was efficient but this was not the boutique hotel I was expecting. I booked because of the location and was drawn in by the photos on the web-site; perhaps the photos are pre-COVID? Not sure, but I am not sure I'd stay here again. If you decide to stay here, make sure to request the second floor of building 2 so you have a peek of the ocean. read more
