Hainan chicken w/ ho fun noodle soup
    Michele T.

Big menu with lots of items to choose from. I decided on the Hainan chicken with ho fun noodle soup. Parents ordered the combo needle noodles and kiddo ordered one of the beef pho and pork kidneys w/ onion. The needle noodles are served with fried egg covering the top. Lots of meat. Flavorful but missing that wok hei flavor. The ho fun noodle soup was ok and the chicken was moist but they weren't meaty - missing something. Served with a side of ginger sauce, but it was too gingery for my liking. It's a texture thing for me so the kidneys were not my fave, but kiddo sure enjoyed them. Those onions brought a lot of flavor.

I've been coming here for the past decade. The combination noodles (number 101) is one of the best in the Bay. Everything in it -- from the beef balls to the pork kidney to the minced pork to the noodles -- is always amazingly perfect. I've brought friends here to carbo load before the SF Marathon, and they raved about it for years. The owner recommends eating the egg noodles with red vinegar. It wasn't on the table. He actually got it from the fridge and brought it over, saying that he always ate it that way in Hong Kong and that it elevates the entire dish. And it did.

    Pork kidney soup

So we stopped into this Vietnamese/Chinese food palace in the heart of Chinatown. My expectations were low but the photo of the pork kidney soup drew us in. I was drawn to the crispy noodles dish with chicken. We had Gai lan-Chinese broccoli with oyster sauce. My friend had the pork kidney soup and absolutely loved it. She said she would eat this everyday. So, it's not really a Chinese dish, more Vietnamese and not something you'd find everywhere. So be adventurous and give it a try, or stick with the crispy noodles with chicken, beef or chicken. I only rate the food. I don't really care about the atmosphere, just the taste of the food, so I give this five stars.

Stopped here for lunch with the fam and we were not disappointed from their soup to Broccoli & Beef and their Chow Mein was delicious!!!! Customer service was great!!!! Not too crazy loud considering lunch rush hour.

Food - ordered bun bo hue - portions are huge! lots of meat, noodles were chewy and overall flavor was good. I was afraid it'd be too spicy, so they made it mild and it was yummy! also ordered thai ice tea. if you're a fan of creamy thai tea, you will love it. my friend wish there was more tea taste, but i loved the creaminess 100% recommend thai tea Service - seated as soon as we walked in. Ordered and food came pretty quickly. I wanna say less than 10 mins. My friend's bun bo hue actually had a piece of hair in it, so we told them and they gladly and quickly cooked a new one for her. Ambiance - pretty laid back. Not the comfiest chairs but lots of seating and overall nice place to grab an afternoon lunch or dinner.

Came for lunch and a few things I like about the no frills San Sun: - Large portions from the Hainan chicken to the rice noodle soup - Free hot tea with the meal - Quick & fast service Their must gets are their noodle soups, pho with plenty of items to choose from. I ordered their Hainan chicken noodle soup. Noodles and the chicken were both bland unfortunately. Luckily, the chicken had a little ginger tip on the side for spice! I understand Hainan are usually done broiled with not much flavor so you can use various spices and dips with it. But the noodle soup too? The broth needs to have more flavor! The menu is gigantic! I got lost counting..I was up to page 13. There's a variety of Chinese dishes here and whatever you're craving, they will have it here. Wayyyy too many items and can be overwhelming.

It was very busy on a Sunday afternoon because of an event in Chinatown. We were seated promptly as someone just left but we waited for our food for over 30 mins for just 3 items. There was a large group of teens who finished lion dance for the event that they wanted to feed first because and I quote, "they were very hungry". Not the best way to apologize for our long wait time. We ordered the hainan chicken rice, shrimp and pork kidney noodle soup, and bun bo hue. I was pleasantly surprised by the BBH. Flavors were good and it wasn't overly spicy. Good amount of meats as well. My dad thought the hainan chicken rice was mid. The sauce it came with was sweet and not the usual green onion ginger dipping sauce. The prices are pretty decent here too. We really liked how the dipping sauces are on a ledge on the side of the table so it clears up space. Everything we got was $16 and was a good portion.

When they were still at the other location, where the Bart is, I would go there every weekend with my family. From what I remember, the food was delicious! Leek Dumpling: It's not as good as I remember it. It's too soft. If you try to get it with chopsticks it will crumble. Chiu Chow Combination Noodle: I usually get this at other restaurants, but first time trying it here. I got the ho fun rice noodle and thin egg noodles. The soup was very bland, no flavor at all. Lots of meat and right amount of noodles though. I should've stuck with my regular order, chicken ho fun. That one is flavorful with wok "air", with a lot of meat and veggies! I'll come back to try other dishes though.

Delicious food, perfect for eating and then walking around. Great flavor and good customer service

Great food and great service. They have a wide variety of noodles you can choose for your dishes. While I was eating someone came in to buy jars of their satay sauce. One of the staff told me it's really popular and I should try some that's available at the table. It was good but a little too spicy for me. The pho ga was very flavorful. And a generous portion for the price. I was very full when I was done. Thai iced tea was also delicious.

Really great food and customer service. The waitress speaks Cantonese, mandarin, Malaysian and English. The chief has a Cantonese Vietnamese fusion style to the menu so there's a lot of options. Recommend getting the wonton soup and kidney ginger and onion.

Came here at 10am on my lunch break right when they opened, very spacious inside with plenty of tables and seating. Was greeted and seated and then I placed my order of Hainanese chicken w/ noodle soup. My order came out in 3-4 minutes which is fast considering that they just opened, it came with a generous bowl of rice noodles with a heap of green onions topped with fried onions and a plate of Hananese whole chicken leg that had a sauce soy sugar and ginger from what I can tell as a dip. The noodles were fresh and the chicken was very tender, for $16 the portion very filling and the food was good quality. Also the staff was very friendly and always had a smile.

Everything was delicious but if I pick a favorite, I think it would be the eggplant. The lamb was very tender and flavorful. It's a small restaurant so I would probably only come with 2-4 people. I think you can walk in but the wait seemed quite long so I'd try to get a res. I wish it was easier to get one or I'd be back more often :)

Servers were friendly and accommodating. Food came quickly and dishes had beautiful presentation. We shared the chili crisp pig head, clay pot rice with Chinese sausage and bacon, scallop vermicelli, and XO escargot with milk bread. I enjoyed the free bites of roasted peanuts and smashed cucumbers. Chili crisp pig head was good but got a little too oily immediately. The slices were really thin and there were a bunch of good textures from the chili crisp and the veggies but was a little heavy due to sitting in plate of oil. Clay pot rice didn't stand out to me that much, the tong ho on top helped cut the heaviness at first but there were only ~5 leaves so it ended up being a little too saucy and heavy. I also would've appreciated more toppings in the clay pot rice and rice also didn't get scorched despite leaving it there for most of the meal. Scallop vermicelli wasn't bad, but definitely felt overpriced for essentially 1 piece of scallop and 3-5 bites of vermicelli. Last, the XO escargot with milk bread was unique but also ultimately too oily. The escargot sat in a pool of oil/butter/fats which got a bit too much too. I will say the flavor was definitely there though and the texture of escargot was good. The milk bread was great, smelled fresh and sweet with a soft crunch. Overall I think it was a fun experience to dine here and no regrets, but none of the dishes stood out to me too much in particular to where I'd be running back.

Stopped by Palette Tea House with The Kid after FoodieLand thinking we were just coming for tea... and ended up having a full experience. We sat at the communal high-top table in the center of the restaurant, which has a small pond built into it with little goldfish and even a tiny rubber duck sitting on the rock formation -- such a cute detail and definitely adds to the ambiance. Our server Ken was fantastic and incredibly knowledgeable about the menu. He recommended the Iron Goddess tea, which ended up being excellent. The Kid ordered the Milk Aroma Oolong, which surprisingly tasted almost like milk tea even though it's just brewed tea. Each tea comes with its own kettle, and Ken even came back to refill the hot water for us. For food, we ordered the Wagyu Beef Fried Rice, which was a huge portion and easily shareable. Very flavorful and well prepared. We also tried the Sichuan Seafood Dumplings and the Iberico Pork Dumplings, both of which were delicious. One order is definitely enough to share. The dumplings come with several dipping sauces including soy sauce, vinegar, chili oil, hot mustard, and a cilantro-based sauce that had a slightly sweet, horseradish-like flavor that really stood out. Service throughout the meal was amazing. Even without a reservation, we were seated immediately. As a Michelin-recognized restaurant for 2025, it definitely felt like a special treat and lived up to the experience.

I order my item, the chicken wings and item to share: the pan-fried dumplings, while my partner ordered one of the noodle soups. She comes back later and points out that the noodle soup has soy - much apperciated because people sometimes share, etc. And I said it was just for my partner. -- The chicken wings were plump, crispy, the first two were 'heathly', didn't taste the salt, and the rest were packed with flavor. If you're looking for consistency there is a #1 spot in Chinatown for chicken wings which I will not disclose in this review. But, otherwise, for flavor - I like it here. My partner said he didn't find the ones here oily but I said the bottom ones were a little and I did enjoy it.
