Part of the Thirsty Thursdays San Antonio crew.

As a 15 year plus downtown resident, this is our backyard. With 30 plus years in the hospitality field (now retired) I feel I can bring you real insight into our locations. The good, the bad and the ugly. If we run across a serious issue, I will always go directly to management and not post it. I truly believe you always must give management an opportunity to correct a serious issue. If not corrected and or just ignored, then I feel it is correct to inform the public - professionally. No establishment is perfect. I will bring to you smaller hiccups we may have come across. I will rarely comment on the taste of food - being bad, as that is a very personal thing. My wife and I disagree on taste of food and wine, no one is wrong or right. Now if the food is on fire, burned, under/overcooked to our requests, that would be mentioned. My favorite thing about our visit to SANCHOS was their hospitality. Sometimes things do not turn out as you think (the customers end). We had a scheduled event planned at SANCHOS, and some of the RSVPs didn't show up. Nothing changed at all from our server, he was simply amazing. Rearranged the tables to make it more suitable for us. And we received more one-on-one attention and interaction with him - he was amazing. Then the food and drinks. To say a solid happy hour menu for both drinks and food is an understatement. It is worth the Uber if you live downtown SATX! Had some amazing apps and drinks! The price point you can't beat! Live music every Thursday, SANCHOS has a real neighborhood feel to it, but has a downtown view. We will set up another Thirsty Thursdays event in the spring. PS on the happy hour bites - try the croquetas de Camaron - "take a cold shower good"! See you soon, just Cindi and I!

Outside...ironically this place is right behind a Taco Bell. Lol

4/5 Food 5/5 Service 5/5 Ambiance A great joint to bring friends on a Saturday and enjoy some live music. Our friends from the area mentioned we should try this place out so we obliged... We order chips and queso, along with their 3 count taco plate of bisteq. The chips and queso were okay, the queso was extremely thick and a little difficult to eat but the taste was yummy. The tacos were delicious and they came with rice and beans. They also make their own corn tortillas for the tacos which I appreciated bc they made everything about the tacos that much better! Their margaritas were "okay" as well, more sour mix and you can't really taste even a drop of tequila so I wasn't overly impressed. I should note that everything was a bit spicy, there are chopped jalapeños in almost everything so if you are a weenie about spice (like my wife) you will probably not do well with the spicy foods here but as mentioned the flavors are great. We were also delighted with a live band that was awesome and brought back some old tune rock n roll to our taco night. We will be back!

The Pork Belly tacos W/ rice and beans

We were craving a brunch vibe with some good drinks and even better food, so we decided to give Sanchos a shot and I'm glad we did! Even though there was a small mix up with our order, It actually landed me something outside my comfort zone that I ended up loving. The Picadillo and Pork Belly tacos were both incredible. We visited a bit early while they were running on a skeleton crew, but the staff did an amazing job regardless. They mentioned the full waistaff arrives after 4 PM, so definitely keep that in mind. Parking is a little quirky, but the food and atmosphere make it totally worth it. We'll definitely be back to try more of the menu.

Nice bar and cool second floor open air patio. They also have a short menu with tacos, tortas, and some of the typical apps like chips and salsa, queso, guac. We came here after the Battle of Flowers fiesta parade and had a great time since it was a beautiful day. The service was slow and our server forgot to enter in one of my friends orders until we got our food and asked about it. They were out of one of the other dishes and they recommended another, but not until a good amount of time had already gone by. So we got our food at 3 different times for a party of 5. I got the shrimp torta and my friend got the chicken tinga tacos of the day. I didn't get pictures of the rest! Both were good and we enjoyed it.

Another pre-pandemic favorite that didn't skip a beat; it had been ages since our last visit, so sadly we've been missing out. We had showed up to join some friends for the live music and some drinks, so the amazing meal was a real treat. The homemade rice, beans, and tortillas proved they still serve the best quality food at reasonable prices. The waitstaff was friendly, kept us well hydrated, and served us quickly. We sat in the outdoor area that night which was well shaded, breezy, and clean-ish. We will definitely return this cantina to our monthly rotation.

Josh Baca and Los Tex Maniacs are awesome! Two Friends and my husband and I enjoyed their amazing music last Wednesday night. We're from out of town looking for Tex-mex music and we were lucky, Josh plays that accordion so great, the evening was perfect. The carnitas tacos plate was tasty. Decay was our server and he was accommodating and welcoming. He made us feel at home with the friendly & welcoming hospitality. The margaritas are delicious & ambience made for a great evening.

So cute! I'm an Austinite and this place is adorable. You can see city views and Kitty muse! I'm in love. Dani, the bartender, is a doll. Thanks for making my day!!

Ask the Community - Sanchos

Is it family friendly?

Yea on the patio

Do y'all do a cut off time for kids and under 21?

After 10pm minors need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Looking for a good poppy music cover band. You know dance music and top 40s?

I have a friend who runs a agency in San Antonio who can help you book a cover band if that’s what you are trying to do?

Does Sanchos take reservations?? Planning to bring 15+ people for a late Saturday lunch for my bday.

I don't know if they do, but if you planned to have 15+ people, you should definitely contact them. The place is very small. If the weather is nice, maybe have the whole patio for your party.

Is wifi available?

No, Unfortunately Sanchez did not have wifi

Is there indoor seating?

Yes inside, outside and I think there is a rooftop area as well.

Update to first review below, rating updated from a 3 to a 5 star (drinks & bartender would get 10+…read morestars if we could rate that high): Saturday night: Went back for after dinner drinks at the Downstairs (a "speakeasy" throwback, look up the history of the place to see why). Drinks were AMAZING! Bartender Rob made the best Negroni I've ever had. I asked him to use whatever gin he thought best--result was an artistic smooooooth full-bodied drink. Told him when I was done I'd lick the glass if it wasn't considered so uncouth for a 'mature' lady like myself to do so Hubby's Buffalo Trace bourbon old fashioned was also outstanding. Rob was the bartender last night who did such a great job, and his work was even better tonight. We highly recommend The EsquireTavern for excellent cocktails. We love the long wood bar and high copper ceiling upstairs, but love the intimate speakeasy atmosphere downstairs even more. We'll definitely be back every time we're in San Antonio! First review, Friday night: Drinks were great (Manhattan and Bourbon Old Fashioned). REAL drinks, no complaints at all about those. And the bartenders were very friendly and helpful. Those aspects of the Esquire get 5+ stars from us. But the appetizers were not good, close to inedible. It was about 8:30pm or so, so maybe they were getting ready to close out the kitchen but the chalupitas with chicken tasted like rubber, and no flavor at all. The seafood platter had something in it that was breading with shell inside, but no meat of any kind. We couldn't figure out what it was supposed to be. The shrimp was good and the fish was good but those other things... We'll always love the drinks, the long wooden bar, and the ambiance at the Esquire Tavern, but we'll eat somewhere else and come here for before or after dinner drinks. (See update above to this review for when we returned the next night for after dinner drinks.)
