Not worth the hype! Food was bland and basic. Service made us feel like we were just an inconvenience. Wait time was long and front desk staff was rude. The only thing this place has going is the ambiance but that is not enough to make me want to return. Surprising that Texas Eats went to this place. Food tasted like Sysco pre-prepared and over processed. Avoid this place and save yourself some money. They are also forcing gratuities and sneaking them into your bill without your knowledge. The server stood over me while paying, making me feel uncomfortable and rushed. Then they asked for additional gratuity on top of what was snuck into the bill. Update: We returned to the restaurant and requested a refund for the "automatic gratuity" added to our check. The manager was actually really nice and returned our money. The manager stated that the restaurant does not add an "automatic gratuity" and that it would have been added by the server himself. The restaurant does not have the "automatic gratuity" for large parties as part of their policy. Moral of the story: If you check your bill and see an extra gratuity added into your bill, request that it is removed immediately. If you happen to miss it, request your refund because you are entitled to it! read more

We have been coming to Maria Bonita for several years, and unfortunately, our experience last night was by far the worst we've ever had. We arrived around 4:00 p.m. and sat at the bar until the rest of our party arrived. Around 5:00 p.m., the five of us were seated. We ordered appetizers, drinks, and later our meals, and were enjoying what has always been our favorite girls' happy hour spot. A couple of hours later, a woman came to our table and very aggressively placed a tiny sign--about the size of a Post-it note--that said there was a two-hour table limit. She repeatedly told us it was "their policy" and insisted we needed to leave. We have spent many happy hours here over the years and have always stayed for several hours without ever being asked to leave. To make matters worse, the person who approached us so rudely was the manager, Lorena. After finishing our food and drinks, we asked for our checks. When reviewing them, we later realized our waiter, Carlos, had added an automatic gratuity to one of the bills as though we were a party of six or more. There were only five of us. We didn't notice until we were outside discussing our disappointing experience. While we were outside, an older gentleman approached us and commented that this restaurant has a reputation for overcharging customers. We went back inside and requested a refund for the incorrect gratuity. We've always enjoyed coming here, which makes this experience even more disappointing. Between being rushed out despite being paying customers, the unprofessional treatment from the manager, and being incorrectly charged, we've decided we will not be returning. read more

Fajitas for two are a really good deal on Tuesday nights and we met another couple here and also took advantage of the happy hour that runs until 6 PM. All in all a good experience. Finally tried the $25 fajita Tuesday special for 2 . The chicken and beef fajitas with 2 links of sausage were tasty accompanied by the pico de gallo, sour cream, cheese, and guacamole. We needed more guacamole and less sour cream. The pieces of beef were cut unevenly. Some were thick, some were thin. The rice was a little cold. Beans were ok. The queso was a little on the salty side. Beware! Read the one star reviews before you plan on coming! Look at what you are charged before paying and keep tab of your orders! We had a disappointing experience at Maria Bonita as our party of five were enjoying a Wednesday night with drinks and apps. The manager Lorena was rude as she came by to state there was a 2 hour limit for the table. This was never brought up when my friends arrived to get a table. 4 out of 5 of us were charged gratuity on our bill and when handed the card payment the option was brought up to add more gratuity, a few of us gave him cash on top of the added gratuity. As we were leaving we all noticed the extra gratuity added to our bills so we went right back in to have them remove it. This was all a mess and mistakes can happen, but customer service is what makes the difference! Sad to experience so we will not be returning! read more

13 Dec 2025 Me and my former coworkers still meet once a month for lunch. We toggle between here and La Fogata on Vance Jackson (the best one in my book). Anyway, it's María Bonita for December. They still do that brunch menu thing. We had French toast and strawberry banana pancakes. The pancakes are offered as 2 or 3. I went for two. Thankfully so. The pancakes are covered in a bunch of strawberries and banana slices. Served with syrup. I asked for some butter. Got it. With the syrup, just delicious. I think 3 cakes would have been too much. I stopped in to the super cute Maria Bonita for the first time recently to enjoy brunch with some girlfriends. The interior is very spacious and filled with cute decor and a lively ambiance. Service was a little spotty (i arrived a little later than my other friends and it took over 20 minutes for someone to come take my order) but we were busy chatting a catching up (and they'd already been served the brunch in a bottle mimosa kit so I was able to occupy myself with that). When I was able to place my order and my Birria Quesadilla came out piping hot it was well worth the wait. Incredibly flavorful, tender, and crispy it was one of the best Birria Quesadillas I've had in the city in a while. Now that i know Maria Bonita is here I'll def be back to enjoy more of their Mexican and Tex-Mex dishes they're serving up there! read more

This is one spot I've been trying to get to for a while, so I was very glad when I finally did. And it actually lived up to expectations. I enjoyed the food, the service was spectacular and I love the vibe and decor. I ordered some Chilaquiles, which were good, if a bit on the crunchy side. However, the food was tasty and enjoyable. Our go to party restaurant with a great private room. This was our second time visiting this month and our waiter while waiting, Ricardo was impeccable as always. We had the enchilada buffet and we were left a little unimpressed. The bottled bottle beer is always not cold but was told the refer was just repaired even though this was the second time this has occurred. The nachos were super tasty, with crunchy chips at the base and each covered in poblano pepper sauce, cheese, crema, chicken, and pico de gallo. We got seated before the table next to us but they got service before we did. There were a bunch of flies so it made it difficult to eat. Maria Bonita Mexican Restaurant & Cantina is clearly popular--we had about a 20-30 minute wait and had to hunt a bit for parking (front, right, and left lots exist... eventually one opens up). Worth it. The inside is adorable with warm lighting, rustic brick, and these beautiful woven bird-nest decorations hanging from the ceiling that give the space such a cozy, artisanal vibe. Margaritas were excellent. I had La Patrona--smooth, balanced, and dangerously drinkable. My husband ordered La Tóxica, a spicy margarita with jalapeño-infused tequila and prickly pear. Both were fantastic. Food was solid all around. The Queso Fundido came in a cute little cast-iron pan and hit the spot. The Maria Bonita Combination impressed with tender, flavorful beef fajitas and cheesy enchiladas (flour tortillas were slightly dry). My Enchiladas Verdes had great flavor, though the chicken leaned a bit dry and could've used more salsa verde. Service was excellent--Byron was friendly, patient, and welcoming. Bonus: Happy hour daily 3-6 PM, mariachi on Wednesdays and Fridays, and a DJ on Saturdays. We'll definitely be back--especially for margaritas and happy hour. read more

My girlfriend and I recently visited Maria Bonita's before a Mexico World Cup game. There were plenty of people waiting for drinks and tables, but the staff kept things moving efficiently and we were seated in a reasonable amount of time. We enjoyed excellent iced tea along with beef and chicken fajitas, rice and beans, and both corn and flour tortillas. The complimentary chips and salsa were a great start to the meal. We loved this place when we lived here 14 yrs ago so of course we made our way back. From the looks of the crowds - we can tell it's still a local favorite. From the looks of the 5 bday parties there that night - we could tell it was a favorite place to go to for birthdays. When we arrived there was no wait but there was def a little wait by the time we left. Service was a little slower than we remembered but it also could have been all the bigger groups. My husband's fave thing here are the warm , fresh tortillas. Straight from the tortilla maker that everyone can view from their table. I ordered the Jalapeño chicken enchiladas - however to my dismay, the rice was salty and thee wasn't much of a kick in the enchiladas. The wait was not that bad to get seated, we got to see the holiday drinks on the wall while we waited. Sadly I can't drink from being pregnant but will be back for the drinks. The chips and salsa were good, the menu had a variety of options. I chose the old mill dinner. Crispy taco was delicious the enchiladas were okay but I'll def try the crispy taco plate next.
