We made reservations for a party of 5 nearly three weeks in advance for a Saturday evening at 6:45 PM during Mother's Day weekend. We arrived around 6:40 PM and our table was ready, which I appreciated. Unfortunately, the experience steadily declined from there. First, be prepared for an extremely loud environment. Conversation at the table was difficult most of the evening. Parking was also just average for a restaurant positioning itself as a more upscale dining experience. The cocktail and tequila program was honestly disappointing. If you are a tequila enthusiast, this is probably not the place for you. Their top-shelf selection was very limited, they had no añejo tequila options available, no Grand Marnier, and the bartenders did not seem particularly knowledgeable about the products they had behind the bar. I even had to walk up to the bar myself to verify what was being poured because the shots being served appeared noticeably skimmed. Food quality was inconsistent at best. The fajita nachos arrived extremely soggy and greasy to the point where the chips literally fell apart when trying to pick them up. It was not the cheese causing the issue either. We also ordered flour tortillas for the queso, and they came out lukewarm and tasted/store-looked like basic H-E-B tortillas, which was surprising for a restaurant branding itself as elevated Mexican cuisine. The flautas were just okay but lacked seasoning and flavor. The red snapper itself was cooked well, but the accompanying sauce was bland and forgettable. Overall, the food lacked depth and authenticity. The best way I can describe this restaurant is an upscale Taco Cabana or Taco Palenque experience with higher pricing and a more polished aesthetic. To make matters worse, we were told to place our order quickly because the kitchen was short staffed. Shortly afterward, we received an email notification stating our reservation had been canceled despite the fact that we were already seated and dining in the restaurant. This dinner was specifically booked as an early Mother's Day celebration for my wife, and not once did any member of the staff acknowledge the occasion or even offer a simple "Happy Mother's Day," despite being informed ahead of time. Unfortunately, this was not the experience we expected after planning ahead for a special occasion. I will not be returning. read more

I've been reluctant to write a review of this place. It's too darn good and part of me is selfish and doesn't want TULUM to get so popular we have to wait 40 minutes for a table! But here goes. Tonight was our 2nd visit on a Friday evening. The interior of Tulum is very light and airy, and has a great ambiance. The service from the hostess and wait staff is spot on. Their specialty drinks are excellent. I had the spicy jalapeño Margarita on ice and it's delicious. For appetizer we had the Flautas Ahogadas. Really yummy. For dinner I had enchiladas verde. The sauce was absolutely amazing. And more than enough for lunch tomorrow. My wife had the tostadas de pollo al pibil, they were excellent. If you like your salsa HOT ask the wait staff for the spicy salsas. The don't bring them by default. The salsa they do bring is very good and tastes fresh. I just like more of a kick. The place is pretty small so if you are bringing a crowd a call ahead might help. Tulum definitely serves some of the best Mexican food I've had in a while. read more

The service was decent for the most part, though a bit lacking for a semi-slow night. We arrived around 7:40 PM, and since they close at 9:00 PM, the late hour might have been a factor. As for the food, it was fresh and the presentation was beautiful, but the flavors leaned more toward "Tex-Mex" and "for the aesthetic." I'm leaning more toward a 3.5-star experience, but I'm giving them 4 stars because they've only been open for three months and have a lot of potential. The decor is gorgeous and perfectly captures a "Tulum" vibe, though the music (early 2000s American surf rock) didn't quite match. I found out they switched from Spanish music during the day due to complaints from past guests, which is a shame! A few highlights & tips The Bar & Nightlife: I was informed they have a great bar scene on Fridays and Saturdays when they stay open until 2:00 AM. My server mentioned that for the late-night crowd, they actually play more Spanish and upbeat dancing music, which sounds much more on-theme. The bar itself is beautiful and the drinks are well-served, so I definitely need to come back for the night scene. The Food: It is on the pricier side for what it is. I wouldn't recommend the Queso Asadero yet; it was weirdly greasy and watery. It might need an additional cheese in the blend to make it fluffier and easier to eat. read more

Just tried Tulum Restaurant off Bulverde & 1604 and it did NOT disappoint! The food was absolutely delicious and truly authentic Mexican cuisine. Everything was packed with flavor, perfectly seasoned, and beautifully presented. The vibe and aesthetics are gorgeous--clean, vibrant, and such a nice place to sit down and actually enjoy your meal. It feels elevated but still welcoming. We also were informed that the owner also owns Coffee Crush which is not to far from here and equally great. The service was just as great. The staff were very friendly, attentive, and made us feel right at home. And the drinks OMG ! I had the cucumber lime Tulum Rita and it was made perfectly--so refreshing, smooth, and not overly sweet. Definitely one of those margaritas you'll want to order again. 10/10 recommend if you're looking for amazing Mexican food, great drinks, and excellent service in San Antonio! Don't let the strip center location fool you. The food here is a reminder of what you'd get in Mexico City or a better restaurant on the border (Mexico side). Everything we got was fresh and very tasty. Presentation is akin to a high-ed restaurant and done with care and patience. The service (by James) was wonderful, relaxed and informative. The extended brunch hours are an extra treat. I'm not sure I'd bring little kids here for dinner but lunch isn't a problem as there are less people. We will be back! read more

My family and I visited Tulum Mexican Cuisine to celebrate my dad's birthday. We requested a table for six, and although the restaurant was empty at the time, we were seated at a table that technically fit us but felt quite cramped and tight on space. That said, the customer service was exceptional. The ambiance is lovely, from the décor to the music, creating Mexican and enjoyable atmosphere. The cocktails were excellent and clearly made with fresh ingredients. We really enjoyed the queso fundido, the tinga, and the fish tacos, all were delicious and well prepared. My niece ordered the steak, which unfortunately was very fatty; she ended up regretting the choice and could not finish it. The camarones a la diabla were flavorful, but despite requesting them very spicy, they were not spicy at all. Desserts were a highlight; every one we tried was delicious. Overall, I would rate this experience a 4 out of 5. We would definitely come back. Just a note for future diners: gratuity was already added to the bill. read more

Fantastic first experience at Tulum last night and we're still thinking about it today! Our server, Aileen, did a great job helping us navigate the menu and make great choices. Browsing the menu, everything sounded good or at least interesting, and we ended up going with some shared apps so we could have room for dessert. Looking at the tables around us, it appeared that most tables were sharing apps! Great call, in my opinion! We started with a frozen mango margarita to accompany the complimentary chips and salsa. We really enjoyed that because it was made with actual mango purée and not some frozen mix. It wasn't super sweet - perfectly refreshing with a Tajin rim. For shareables, we were eyeing several options and started with 2: the Panuchas and the Queso Fundido. One bite of the Panuchas and we knew we'd be coming back. Piled high, they had the perfect balance of flavor and texture. Aileen brought us green salsa that delivered a little kick. Really flavorful. The Queso Fundido wasn't what you typically find, and it was much better than the usual. Served with corn and flour tortillas, it arrived in a cast iron skillet that left a crispy cheese lace (Frico) around the edges- the best part! Being that these apps were on the heavier side, we decided to go straight to the desserts next to make sure we still had room for them. After going back and forth between the options, we consulted with Aileen again and got the Tres Leches and the Flan. Both were delicious! The flan was topped with caramelized kernels of corn (they looked like raisins!) that gave it a unique flavor and texture. Loved it. The flan was also unique in that it was lavender infused and topped with toasted coconut. Creamy and heavenly. The decor was beautiful- casually chic and elegant. Beautiful light fixtures, tile around the bar, soothing colors, great music. The bar opens up to the patio, so you can sit on a stool outside and have access to the bartenders inside. The patio is large and spacious, and there are heaters for the chilly evenings. We can't wait to return! read more

A very good and nice Mexican restaurant. My wife and I both started with a Tulum Margarita, which was very good but had a different taste, not bad, just different. For dinner my wife had the Tortilla soup. Our server, who was great, brought the bowl out but poured the broth which was thicker than normal. My wife really enjoyed the soup, her only thing was in her opinion there were too many Tortilla straps. I ordered the Enchalida Verda with chicken, which came with beans and white rice on the side. She checked in regularly to get our drink orders, appetizer order, and entree order. Not too quick to check on drink refills or give me the bill. Guacamole was tasty with an interesting fresh strawberry, raspberry, and blueberry garnish. Complimentary chips and salsa were excellent. Regular and blue corn chips. The red salsa has a nice zest with a subtle cilantro flavor. I could have been happy with just that salsa! Kid's quesadilla was pretty standard. Enchiladas verde were tasty. 3.7 STARS. Nothing special tonight and certainly more on the pricey side. They just opened December 2025 so hopefully they will take my feedback as a way to improve. Check out the photos I posted for my quick review on each item ordered. I don't mind the higher prices as long as the food is elevated. The presentation is amazing. Well done although the food quality and taste could improve. Please upgrade the quality of your fajita cut. You are charging what Lupe Tortilla and Pollo Asados charges but they are using a higher quality cut. My entire steak was chewy. If you aren't going to use fresh flour tortillas you have to have a homemade corn tortilla. Please. Elevate. I won't be back unless they make upgrades and I get an invite back. I have mixed feelings about this place, the decor is so cute, the staff super friendly and engaging, but the food is where I had an issue. The majority of the items we had were spot on! However, I ordered the Chuleta de Puerco and so wanted to absolutely luv this dish, but it missed the mark in the pork. It was extremely fatty and more of a grisly feel in your mouth, so u had to pick a lot out. The rest of the dish was perfect and so tasty. I'm a huge fan of plantains and these were no exception. The cocktails were definitely on point. We will be back to try something else. I'm looking forward to the Pulpa dish, so there will be an update coming soon. Hopefully I have a better experience with that as it is another favorite and nothing something you can get just anywhere here in town! read more

Excellent new Mexican restaurant. Tulum is raising the bar for Mexican cuisine in this area of the city. At first glance you can tell this is a passion project. Care, time and money have been put into the warm inviting environment. However, the food is what really sets itself apart from others. The menu strives to bring you a taste of the Tulum region. Everything was fresh, with no hint of premade canned ingredients. Seasoning was on point and everything was well prepared. Waitstaff was also top notch. My family will definitely be returning. Edit - after reading another review on the food, I would have to agree with the assessment of the flour tortilla. It wasn't great, but I expected this. They probably only have them because, it's expected in our region. This is not TexMex. Corn tortillas are more traditional, and while not the best I've had, were perfectly acceptable. No reservation. Walked right in for an 1130 lunch on a Sunday. Seated immediately. Service was overall good but took a while from food coming out to server checking in on us. Orderes the Ceviche Tulum which was a red snapper ceviche. It tasted good. But have a high standard for ceviche that only Leche de Tigre can fulfill. It was a good portion, but more onion, cucumber, and watermelon radish than actual fish. It said serrano peppers but I didn't taste any spice. Ordered the flan that came with a passion fruit sauce which made us wait an extra 25 minutes because the sauce wasn't made yet. The kitchen hadn't prepared the sauce yet. They should've had it prepped. I will say the flan was worth it. The agua frescas were not available. Friend tried to order a coconut mojito but they didn't have coconut so she passed on the pineapple mojito they offered her. I consider this place way over priced with the ceviche at $25. Our server was friendly and really attentive. We ordered the ceviche and honestly it was okay, lots and lots and lots of red onions with little fish on top. Felt we had a half onion with lime juice and hand full of fish. That was $25!! Food wise we just had ceviche and the complimentary chips and salsa and ordered the lavender flan which took over 15-20min to arrive because they were cooking it fresh ( which was fine) the flavor of the flan was very tasty and satisfying. This is a beautiful place--casual elegant, well decorated, and with a fun, lively ambiance (it is loud, but in a social way). The staff was friendly, attentive, and welcoming, which definitely made a good first impression. Now, let's talk about the food. I started with the avocado appetizer. Unfortunately, the avocado had an off taste. At first, I thought it might be sour cream or yogurt mixed in, but it wasn't that--it just tasted wrong. The combination of avocado with strawberries and other fruits is interesting and could work (I've had avocado with pomegranate before and loved it), but here there was no avocado flavor at all. It was simply odd. We ended up returning it. Next was the queso fundido. Nothing special, but here's an important point: if you're serving queso fundido with tortillas, the tortillas need to be good. These tasted straight from a bag--and not even a good one. Honestly, H-E-B tortillas taste better. Moving on to the fajitas--this was the biggest disappointment. The meat had too much fat and too many hard pieces. For a fajita plate, that's just not acceptable. And once again, the tortillas didn't help. From others in my group: * The mole was okay (not really my thing). * The tortilla soup was too pasty, and the flavor was off--almost like Velveeta sauce. * The black beans were oddly sweet and unpleasant. * The white rice had no flavor at all. Overall, the food just didn't land. On a positive note, the drinks were good--everyone in my group enjoyed them, with no complaints there. Final thoughts: For a new Mexican restaurant: beautiful space, great service, fun atmosphere, decent drinks--but the food needs serious improvement.
