If you like cold over-salted meats served on stale stiff corn tortillas, this is your place. The toppings were fresh, the salsas good, and the staff nice. But the fish taco was a C+ at best, and the OG taco resembled dog food. The place should rename itself "Sancho's: order anything except the tacos." Never dining there again. read more

I would actually rate this place a 3.5 but the app does not allow it. Here is why: We went to this restaurant right after work, I'm not sure how packed it gets late afternoons or during lunch, but the service was quick and kind. We ordered take out, I got the angus tacos without sour cream and my friend got a quesadilla. In my opinion, the tacos were decent, I was thrown off by the sweet taste at first, and realized that it was the salsa that was sweet. Interesting combo for sure. But for my personal preference I like my tacos more on the spicy traditional side of things, but food is all about preference, so I would definitely encourage everyone to try for themselves. As far as my friends opinion, they thought it was a decent quesadilla too. The price was a bit expensive, 4.75 per taco. I was impressed by the decor of the place, super cool ceilings. Sancho's Tacos is now here in downtown Bakersfield! What a great place to have on this famous East Chester corner of 18th and R street! I went in to sample a few tacos before heading to Mexicali for a margarita. I ordered the shrimp and carnitas taco. The shrimp taco was delicious and cooked to perfection. The carnitas had a sweet and savory taste; great if you like that combo. Bad if you don't! I enjoy sweet and savory in one bite...so it was a plus for me. The breakfast burritos here were cheesy and delicious and exactly what I needed. I got a sausage breakfast burrito and my boyfriend got chorizo, and both were excellent. I only take off one star because the burritos were so very greasy, and I love me a greasy spoon but it was a little much. Fun skater/surfer punk vibes in a small space with quick service. Not sure what the hype is with Sanchos Tacos. Had this one on my radar for a while and I work downtown so I swung by to grab a to-go order. Good service very friendly and didn't have to wait long for my order but..... I had the OG Tacos and my honest opinion is they were the worst tasting tacos I've had in Bakersfield. They make these in a non traditional way with Tri tip-Steak. The steak was cheap, dry, chewy and very under seasoned. No flavor at all. The corn tortilla was crispy like a hard taco and also had little to no flavor. I had Rice/Beans with my order which didn't turn out to be a saving grace. Not refried beans, just pinto beans topped with bagged cheddar cheese. Both the rice/beans were crazy salty and tasted terrible. If Im being honest I probably wouldn't complain if these tacos were dirt cheap but I paid $21 and there's a lot of good eats in Bako for $21. My first and only trip to Sanchos Tacos unless someone else is buying. read more

Quality of food is amazing. Love the tastes and the salsas paired with the food. Service can be hit and miss. They prepare the food fairly fast, but sometimes the chicks at the register are rude. It's small, only 4 tables while the rest of the seating is outside but it's quirky and a "vibe" as they say. We snagged a table and ordered 3 tacos (shrimp, fish, chicken) and a burrito. We got all the salsas to try as well as the churros. The shrimp taco was delicious and my personal favorite! The burrito was super filling and I could only get through half of it. Quality ingredients and plenty of food for 2 people. The spicier salsas were tastier. The churros were a bit of a disappointment, very small pieces for $5 seems excessive. This was my first time (certainly not my last) so I wanted to try as much of a variety as possible. Had the carnitas, chicken, shrimp and surf n' turf tacos and all were great. The ambiance is its own piece of artwork indeed. For the 80's babies, it's a mix of American Me meets Beetlejuice. There is artwork everywhere, including the bathroom (which was clean). The only bathroom I've been in that was the size of a jail-cell with 10" crown moldings! The tri-tip tacos sounded amazing but had a sweet sauce that the meat was soaked in, which took away from any ounce of authenticity. I can see how some may like it. If sweet tacos are your thing, you'll love this place. For those who like authentic tacos, I'd recommend the fish tacos. My wife had those and they were tasty. Their meat choices aren't the best. They don't have al pastor, lengua, tripas, cabeza nor cesos. Worst off all, no aquas frescas (Mexican drinks; tamarindo, aqua de horchata, limon, jamaica, etc.). To their credit, the chips in the nachos seemed like they were made fresh at the location, nice and crispy. They also used real cheese atop the nachos, none of that canned cheese.
