I had a great facial today with Lisa. She was amazing! It was so relaxing I did fall asleep at one point. Unlike some other estheticians she does not put the hot steam on your face and then leave the room for 5 - 10 minutes. She did a wonderful hand and arm massage and foot massage. I HAD been going to Sanctuary for years to get my eye brows done by Lynne. She was the only one who could give me a great shape. Now, I've been burned by her before from waxing but it didn't matter. Until the one time it did matter. In February 2019 my best friend was getting married and I was in her bridal party. The day wasn't about me but I knew I would be in plenty of pictures. So I booked my appointment the Tuesday before the Saturday wedding. I warned Lynne that I was in a wedding party and she couldn't burn me. Well, safe to say. My eye lid was completely burned. When i called to let them know I wasn't happy, Lynne returned my phone call to tell me that it's perfectly fine to wax over the same spot twice and my skin must be sensitive (meaning a me problem). She also told me that it's mustn't be that bad and it'll be fine in a few days. Completely dismissive with an empty apology. (For example, "I'm sorry your eye lid burned." Instead of "I'm so sorry I burned your eye lid") Well. It wasn't fine a few day's later. I then called again and asked to actually speak to the manager or the owner. I asked for a refund. He said they don't do refunds but he would happily give me a gift card worth two eye brows waxes. I told him there was no way I was coming back for a brow wax. And he said he would throw in a healing ointment for my eye lid. But that was the best they could offer me. I had to drive all the way to the salon to receive the gift card and ointment. When I was able to apply the ointment, I took the cap off and there was a hair on the nozzle. They gave me used ointment with hair on the nozzle. I was furious. I vowed never to go back. I haven't been back until 12/21/19 to purchase a Christmas gift for my mother. My mother's hairdresser rents a chair at this Newbury street want to be salon. I didn't want to buy online because I didn't want to create an account for a gift card to a place I have little intentions of returningSo I drove from Hyde Park to Franklin. When I asked to purchase a gift card the lady at the desk asked for my name. And I asked why this was relevant to buying a gift card. And then she asked who the gift card was for. WHO CARES! What if it was for a charitable raffle. I don't see why all this information is necessary for buying a simple gift card. Sanctuary salon might have decent hair stylists, but tread extremely lightly as they treat some of their clients quite shitty. Especially the male ones. There are far better places to go. Don't waste your time at this place. read more

Pedicure with Kelly was excellent. She took her time, my toes look great, but more important, my feet felt amazing. She did deep massage and used a scrub and it felt as good as a full body massage! I think a really good pedicure is better than a massage! I usually have foot pain at night, but after my pedicure, that night i had none. This was truly therapeutic as well. She is simply the best. Book her early, because she is very much in demand. Will definitely go back again, and next time will add a pedicure. read more

I had my first appt here for a 1 hour lash fill with Jackie not long ago and she was fabulous! I not only left there feeling foxy with my beautiful and fresh lashes, but I really enjoyed the appointment. I normally have a hard time with people going near my eyes and Jackie made it an easy and fun experience. I was surprised when it was over. And they look aaaamazing!! As a side note, I had gone to another salon who will remain nameless only a week earlier for the initial full set of extensions. I had a Groupon - and I regretted that. The lashes were put on with too much adhesive and were sticking together in clumps. Jackie had to pull them apart and even remove & replace some. 6/28/18 I previously went to Sanctuary when I lived nearby, but since have moved to Cape Cod. I was back in the area last Thursday and was able to get a last minute appointment with Ashley. I have curly hair and was nervous with an unknown stylist. Ashley was AWESOME! She listened well and addressed any concerns. It was pouring out that day, but she blew me out anyway and did an amazing job and walked me to my truck with an umbrella so I wouldn't get my blowout wet :) I would highly recommend Ashley. I went for a prenatal massage -- my masseuse's mask was below her nose and I had to ask her to put it back up. She did, but it kept falling back down, and I didn't love the idea of being in a small room with someone not properly masked for an hour during the Delta outbreak (esp while pregnant). The massage itself was mediocre even as I asked for changes to pressure. She also made conversation during the massage, including giving me unsolicited parenting advice; as any parent knows, the last thing you want is to think about parenting tips during a relaxing experience away from your kiddos! Surely this was well-intended and may have just been a one-off experience, but I'll be going elsewhere in the future. read more

Over the weekend, I spent a little too much time drunk-Pinteresting and was convinced that I would look great with straight-across bangs, despite my short forehead. I snipped away and woke up the morning with serious regret. The next day, I was able to make a same-day appointment with Kelly. Besides the hack job on my bangs, I hadn't had a real haircut in eight + months. Without judgment, she told me straight up - yeah, you need a haircut and we can't hide these bangs, you gotta commit! I showed her some pictures of Alexa Chung from a Lucky magazine I swiped off the waiting area table and hoped for the best. Well, Kelly spun some haircutting WIZARDRY and not only can I now rock straight-across bangs (she set the bangs further back on my head, creating the illusion of a bigger forehead!), but I pretty much have Alexa Chung's exact haircut. It is AWESOME. She cut in tons of layers and thinned out my thick mane of hair and it looks so good. Also, I explained that I am crap at doing my hair, so she blew it dry without additional tools so that I could replicate the exact same result when I got home. She didn't set some unattainable standard - she kept it real. And for that I am so, so grateful. Everyone looked like they really knew what they were doing in there. New to town I tried at least one other place before I went to Sanctuary. I have not gone anywhere else since discovering Sanctuary. Cut and color every month with Taryn. Recommend her greatly. I will say I have not seen anyone walk out looking anything but good. Love how they took part of an old factory and turned it into the salon. It has a lot of windows so a lot of natural light and high ceilings. Not noisy and there is plenty of room so you are not crowded at all. read more

I came here to get my hair and makeup done for a wedding, and enjoyed the salon overall. It is very relaxing and beautiful inside, and the staff is extremely welcoming. I had my hair done by Kelli and she was very honest with me about what would work for my hair type (lots of it, but very fine), and she helped me decide what would look best on me. My hair came out good, and I think she was really proud of it because she wanted to take pictures of it afterward. A lot of people complimented me on how my hair came out! My hair also stayed in place ALL day long, which is great. It was a little expensive though ($75).. it took her about 20-25 minutes to do my hair and it consisted of curling it and putting it half up and half down. Still, she did a great job and listened very well to my desires and concerns. I had my makeup done with Lynn, and she too was very kind and professional. She had good quality makeup and knew how to properly apply it. However, I don't know if she exactly nailed what I was going after..I have never had my makeup (or hair) done professionally so I was not sure how to really explain what I wanted. I also only ever wear mascara and maybe a light layer of eyeshadow, so wedding makeup looked a little dramatic to me! I am glad it lasted all night though, and did not run after me crying many times throughout the day. It came out really good though, and she definitely knows how to apply makeup beautifully. The makeup application price was typical for what other places charge ($45). Many people came up to me while at the salon and said I looked beautiful, which was also very nice.. I am wondering if they thought I was the bride, haha. They seemed very sincere though! I would recommend this place to others and would possibly get my hair cut/colored there if back in the area. read more

I went to Kelli as a recommendation of a colleague. Her hair was blonde and since I moved out to Medway it seems not many people could understand what I meant when I said I wanted cool blonde highlights. My nephew drew a picture of me with orange hair and the first time my son said hair he pointed to mom's frizz so I sought help. Kelli is fantastic. She is opinionated and will tell you what looks good on you and what doesn't and has made me feel like I'm taking my life back via a good hair cut. I have to say that over all my experiences at the salon were Ok. The biggest thing i have had issues with is the receptionist desk and booking. The services i have gotten were great i have not left there feeling like i looked bad. I had one stylist that i have been going to for years and she is great. Unfortunately today i got a fairly rude and abrupt voice mail stating that she does not work there anymore.I understand people leave but they did not even offer to reschedule my appointment with someone else, she said i could call if i wanted to. All i can say is that after going there for at least 2 years i am going to see if i can find my hair dresser at another salon since apparently they did not care to keep my business. I also have to say that in the past they had double booked my stylist but i had put up with it because i wanted her to cut my hair. read more
