My husband and I made our way to Star today to run a couple errands. We were both starving so I…read moresuggested going to Star Country Cafe for Brunch. This joint has been on my to go list so today was the perfect day too try it out! It was about 1 when we made our way there and we were hoping that the breakfast/brunch rush had kind of slowed down. There was a table ahead of us. My husband and I decided to sit at the bar since therewere a couple spots open. We wanted to save the table for a family that needed more room. And we actually like sitting at the bar. We sat ourselves and kinda of waited for sone service. It was very busy still so it took a minute for someone to help us. No problem, my husband and I just chilled till someone got to us. We finally got coffee and juice started while we were looking over the menu. The gal that got my coffee was sweet. She got me fresh creamer and sweetner packets so I didn't have to use the communal packets. I appreciate how understanding she was about my requests and my want to protect my new kidney. The menu has a lot of options which was great! Everything sounded tasty since we were so hungry! My husband grabbed the 2 biscuits and gravy meal with 2 eggs. I got the Tomlet with some spinach added without the hashbrowns and toast. Our food came out fast and hot! It all looked so good. My omelet had hamburger, olives, onions, cheese, jalapenos and fresh spinach. It was just what I wanted! I added sour cream and salsa to that baby, it was so good! My husband's biscuits and gravy were massive! The best homemade biscuits and gravy we ever had came from a gas station in Athens, Ga. These biscuits and gravy were busy as good! They are the best we have had in town! The biscuits were fluffy and airy, not too dense. The gravy was savory and rich. I don't know what kind of sausage they used but it was really good! Sausage gravy is a 50/50 for us but this gravy was killer! Everything was so fantastic! We ate every bite of our food and didn't regret it one bit! I appreciate the small, hometown feel of this restaurant. Servers knowing their guests by their first names. The prices were reasonable. The coffee was hot and my cup was always filled. The food was killer good! Our service was great. This joint is a little further than our normal brunch joints but they are so worth the drive! I look foward to coming back and having another great meal! And having one of them massive cinnamon rolls will be a must as well!

No refills on our coffee while others did. When paying our bill, the waitress looked shocked that my very kind husband gave her a generous tip. She knew her behavior was unacceptable. We won't go back. No one deserves to be treated so poorly. Go to The Griddle. They are always kind, welcoming and serve a great breakfast!

Came here with my son after church on Sunday and honestly we can't say enough good things about it…read more The place itself is cute, not super big, but old school diner vibes, and it even has a counter you can sit at. The service was amazing from the time we walked in the door- we were seated right away, our server was so sweet and attentive. She made great recommendations since it was our first time in, and made sure that we enjoyed everything. The food came out quickly and was fresh, hot and everything tasted great. Honestly though, the pancakes are a must if you go. Hands down some of the best pancakes we have ever had. We tried the cinnamon roll, which was okay, but not near as good as the pancakes- my son got the country fried steak, which had a generous portion and he really enjoyed it, and I got the breakfast burrito, which was delicious and big (I took half home). If you are nearby, definitely check them out. They have a big menu. Including lunch, and the price point is amazing. Overall we were super happy with everything and know we will be going back.

It's a matter of perspective when visiting Covey's...this is a neighborhood place where people know…read moreeach other and it's more like visiting a friend's house than a restaurant. As long as you keep this perspective, you'll love Covey's! The service, decor and food presentation is like visiting your friend's or family's house as well - nothing has been updated in a while (Christmas wrapping was still up in late march) and service is slow paced and has the essence of "I'll be there when I get there". But this is a family run business and it's obvious when everyone that works there seems to gel well with each other and it provides a nice feeling of camaraderie. The place was half full when we arrived and were instructed to sit a table. Menus came a little while after, server came out a little while after that. Like I said, slow paced. Ordered the chicken sandwich (comes with lettuce, tomatoes and pickles), added cheese, and fries as a side. Hubby ordered the 2 pancakes, 2 scrambled eggs and 2 sausage patties breakfast. Food came out not too long after. My sandwich was really good! The bun was soft and fresh, veggies were crisp and the chicken was perfectly cooked; chicken was incredibly tender and the batter was crunchy without being too hard. The only downside was that the cheese was cold and not melty. The fries appeared to be fresh cut, homemade fries (which was appreciated) and regardless of pretty good flavor, were undercooked and soggy instead of crispy. You get a lot of them with your meal. The fry sauce was just as unimpressive as the fries. Hubby loved his pancakes; soft and fluffy with crispy butter edges. Eggs and sausage were at perfect temperature and tasted great. Hubby felt like he finally had a hometown option for breakfast again and was beaming with joy.
