I used to come to sand spa often but haven't in almost a year. I have a trip coming up so I decided to stop in. Not sure if it's because I came on a Tuesday afternoon when it was slow or what but I asked for baby pink French tips on clear dip powder and truly they are the worst nails I have ever received. If we can not do a simple French tip in 2024 what are we doing. It should not be up to the customer to speak up when their nails look this bad. $75+tip for this quality is a bummer. Worst part is I can't even get the color off with my acetone at home so I am stuck with these until someone somewhere else can get me in to fix them. This is my second time here and once again they did not disappoint. The first tome I came I got a gel manicure and a regular pedicure. The gel lasted for 3 weeks and the pedicure for 4 weeks. Do not come here for nail art and be aware that this business saves customers credit card information that their front desk assistants have access to charge as wanted. Thought I would do something fun for my engagement nails the design was beyond botched I walked out and called my fiancé so upset that I just paid so much to have my nails look awful for our engagement photos. He told me to go back in and say something so I did. I was told it was to late for them to fix them but that I could come back the next day.... Super inconvenient but wanted my nails to look good for the engagement photos. Went back got them fixed with just a single color. I got gel with designs which cost me $80 when I went back the next day to get them fixed I found a navy color that I loved but it was powder I asked the lady at the front desk if there was a difference she said no (the girl at the front was aware this was getting fixed for free as discussed with her and the owner). Took another hour of my time to finish, tipped the nail artist and went on my way. A few days pass and I see another charge on my credit card for $85. I call immediately the same front desk girl picked up the phone and she says I remember you, you ran away without paying the other day the powder dip is more than the service you paid for. I corrected her and asked if the powder was $85 more than the $80 I already paid she said well no powder is $85 so I'm like this is a $5 but you also waisted my time, I had to drive back over, pay for parking, and tip the nail tech again...... and I asked you if there was a difference. I'm absolutely appalled because the card they charged was one that I had used here over a year ago... this business is wrongfully storing customer credit card information and front desk assistants have access to these accounts..... wreck-less business practices. I asked to speak to the owner about the credit card storage information I barely got an apology.... Overall not a horrible experience- probably because it was a girls day with my two best friends! Their polish is very unorganized. I asked for dip powder, so chose a color off of the dip rack. As my service begins, they told me it's an additional $7 for my color due to it being gel, not dip. On top of that, I said I wanted the classic pedi. Then they asked if I wanted my calluses removed, and usually with any pedicure they do a light buff treatment around your heel so I thought nothing of it. After it was complete, they said they were charging me an extra $10 for it. Mind you- I have very soft feet as it is. Not much to remove. First off I had no issues with the service from my nail technician aside from not clearly communicating costs of the services in detail. I tried several times to be sure and clarify what I was spending. Callus removal is extra 10$! Gel or dip are both extra costs on top of the packages! Chrome that takes 5 seconds is an extra 15$! This was my second time back after spending nearly 300$ the first time on a dip mani and gel pedi. I tried to be very careful with my package selection so that I could know exactly what I was spending this time! Not knowing that dip is an added 23$ and gel an added 39$ on top of the package cost! He really worked at breaking up the knots in my butt, lower back & legs using pressure points and deep tissue which loosened me up enough so that i could really move better and had relief right away. Not worth it. I have been seeking a local spot for HydraFacial and was eager for Sand Spa to open here in Hermosa. I have exclusively enjoyed HydraFacial for the last 10+ years (they should be the same everywhere since it uses a machine) and wanted to find something closer than Alchemie and Trilogy. My first HydraFacial here was disappointing and ineffective. The experience was also subpar - it was just what you would expect getting a facial in a nail salon. The woman was polite but not very good and I didn't see the immediate glow I normally see. I figured they had just opened so maybe there is a learning curve and they will clean up the experience so its not so cheap feeling considering they charge more for HydraFacial than the other spas I frequent. (to be clear, you are in a closet with a curtain without airflow). I booked a second HydraFacial but unfortunately tested positive for Covid I called the day before to cancel and was told I would not be charged - and yet the next day I was charged for the entire appointment for a "no show" (which is frustrating because its outrageously expensive and I was being responsible and not getting others ill). I love Hermosa and want to support our local businesses so badly so I let it pass... My third visit, today, was by far the worst. I booked an 80 minute Diamond Pro Go HydraFacial for $325. This service is advertised in part as: "Our holy grail facial service that includes our most targeted and powerful booster, ReGen GF to firm & restore skin as well as boost collagen and elastin production. Our Diamond Pro service Includes all the bells and whistles ... a face massage as well as arm/hand/neck & shoulder massage. Includes 15-30% Glysal Peel. I received none of the above. First, I arrived a few minutes early for my 12:20 appointment. I was on the bed ready to go at 12:20 and my esthetician entered around 12:25. My appointment finished at 1:30. That is 65 minutes, not 80. I was ready to be done however, because it just was not enjoyable. When she placed the serum on my face she then left the room for 5+ minutes to mix the mask. she then returned to put the mask upon my face, which in doing so dripped a lot of it on my hair. she then placed a light dome over my face and then left the room for 20 minutes. There was no "arm/hand/neck & shoulder massage" or anything except I was trapped under a light that was resting upon my shoulder and I could hear people talking loudly outside my closet curtain. She returned removed the mask from my hair to the best of her ability and that was it. To be clear, the women that work at this location are kind. but clearly quality and experience and customer service just don't matter. There is just so much lacking from the experience I sincerely would rather just not even have a service. I wasted $375 on this experience and I hope taking the time to write this out spares you the same. The Mani Pedi experience here is lovely. it is quite expensive but I do find that at least worthy of the price. read more

First time visit. Would not recommend the organic pedicure. They still used the regular nail polish removed (probably by mistake), did not use a hotel towel and set their timer for 4 min (the menu said hot towel and 5 min massage). The chairs are also covered in plastic and was ripped at the seams. I asked to sit on a towel since my leg was getting scratched from the plastic. read more

I do not recommend this place for a facial or a massage because they cut the 50-minute facial to 40 min., the therapist was late to start even though I did not see there any other customers, the customer service was bad. I moved to the area and was looking for a place to get facials and massages regularly nearby. I went to Sand Spa based on good reviews on Yelp. They advertise 50 minute "Shore thing" facial at $89. Well.. I arrived at least 10 minutes early and was placed in a waiting area. It was my first time getting facial there so I had to fill in the intake form. The therapist took a long time to come out, instead of 12:10 - my scheduled time, she came out about 12:20 and took me to the room. There was not much discussion about my facial needs but by the time I undressed and laid down, a couple more minutes passed. The facial itself was okay, mainly mask driven. She washed my face a few times with different product and placed some masks, did extractions just for a few minutes. Most stuff was left untouched. I gave a star for the okay facial. The facial finished at 1:02! I looked at my watch immediately upon the therapist left the room. Wow, when you advertise a 50-min facial, are late, and cut it short because your therapist was late, it is not good. I was very unhappy and expressed that to the receptionist. She was mildly passive-agressive and rude, and tried to convince me that I ALMOST got the full 50 min. My understanding is they do 5-min now so that there is 10 min gap between customers to get dressed/undressed and get out of the room. After my facial finished, it took me a few minutes to get dressed and put my shoes on before I came out. But the receptionist did not want to take any of that time in consideration. There was a promotion so I paid $79 vs. $89 and figured that's why I was treated so badly. I go to get a massage or facial to pamper myself, enjoy my experience and relax, not to argue with the customer care. Terrible customer service. The owner called me later, but because it was reported to her that I ALMOST got the 50 minutes (minus 7), she did not sound very sympathetic, offered me a little discount on my next visit. Thank you, but no thank you. The day was ruined already, money paid, and I will not be returning to this place, not for any discount. The place is overpriced overall, especially considering they provide truncated services vs. your regular 1-hr massage or facials, as other places do. read more

I won't even touch on the minimal effort to make the place comfortable yet how unprofessional it is to do nails on top of a pillow on the clients lap with towels on it, if the end product was good I wouldn't have thought twice about it. I went in to get a fill, and I felt like I was being tortured on my right hand. My nail person Kim must be new or inexperienced, while filing down the old nails she cut my skin so badly on three fingers that every time she did anything else it burned so badly I didn't think I would be able to finish and I have a high pain tolerance. I told her it was burning and she didn't do anything about it. If it was that painful to get a fill every time I would never get acrylics done again. Secondly, one of my nails has already chipped and has a weird wavy texture in it. And two others have strange indentations in them like a bubble in the gel polish popped or something. The owner or a manger was at the counter when I went to pay and didn't smile or really acknowledge me besides charging me $44 for a fill. Needless to say, I won't be back. This isn't your average nail salon - the staff is super friendly, the ambiance is posh yet warm with chandeliers and velvet chairs. We are always offered something to drink: tea, sparkling water or even champagne!! I've had many services that have been fabulous and reasonably priced: gel mani/pedi, blow outs, lashes, wax, makeup.
