We usually stop by here on our trips to visit grandma in Arizona because they have so many different kinds of Thrifty™ ice cream! These ice creams can be somewhat difficult to find since Rite Aid bought out Thrifty's - and most places don't have some of the more exotic kinds they have here - like birthday cake, pecan praline, and coconut pineapple. They also have the classics like black cherry, rocky road, and rainbow sherbert. Overall there are around 20 different flavors to choose from - so this place is always a hit with the kids, both big and small. Though the prices are a bit on the high side, this is not the kind of place you go looking for a bargain. They offer something special and convenient so it's worth the price. There are a few other things they offer, including ice, filtered water, water bottles, dispensers, and other equipment. They also have candy for sale and a few other things. Overall this is a "neighborhood" type ice cream shop that is totally mom-and-pop style, so drop by and support it if you are looking for some tasty ice cream!

I went to Sandee's water and ice to check it out and see if I could find some ice cream. I walked in and was greeted with an enthusiastic smile. The lady behind the counter explained the ice creams they had and which cones they had. They have regular, chocolate covered with sprinkles, and chocolate covered with nuts. The selection of ice cream was so yummy! I went with a strawberry cheesecake. The ice cream tasted SO GOOD and creamy. It hit the spot. The establishment is clean and smells clean. The prices are great for water, ice, ice cream, and candy. I will be visiting again very soon.

I was kind of embarrassed because I didn't know how everything worked. It has been years since I've been in a water store, not since I lived in Chandler and went to the location there. In San Diego we always just had a filtered water pitcher in the fridge. But I'm here on a long-term visit to my daughter and grandchildren and after drinking tap water when I when I first got here I decided I should switch to bottled water. I didn't want to be buying a bunch of small water bottles to fill the landfills so I bought a couple of gallons jugs of water and then took them to the water store to refill when they were gone. The girl working there is very pleasant and kind and help me learn how to work everything and I've been going there ever since. She's great at customer service by remembering that I always say yes to a receipt and even remembered my favorite ice cream was the Cherry amaretto. I can't resist getting a scoop every time I go in. It's a nice little perk for an otherwise mundane job of going someplace to refill your water jugs. It's sure nice to go into any establishment where they make you feel welcome every time you go in. Oh, and I couldn't resist buying one of those purple jugs and have been very happy with it.

It's mildew every single time - consistently over the years. Which is sad because it's right down the street. I have a very sensitive nose. And extremely picky about drinking water. If you can't detect the mold, just ask yourself if you have any minor health issues that started when you began getting water here. The last thing our bodies need is mold. Look into it. There are a few water and ice businesses that have great water. This location at University and Greenfield is the worst by far.

Years ago, we purchased several of their punch cards, and I still had almost five left -- about $50 worth. I decided to use them today when I went to fill up my water bottles. After I started filling them, I asked the employee if they still accepted the cards. She looked at them and immediately said no because they were "five years old." She then asked me if I thought Kohl's would honor a seven-year-old gift card. Considering there was no expiration date on these cards, I honestly believe that comparison was unfair. What upset me most was the way the situation was handled. She took the cards out of my hands and said, "I'll just keep these and you can take the water." In the end, I essentially paid over $40 for 9 gallons of water that had technically already been paid for years ago. I even offered to pay for the water at that moment, but she repeatedly refused while keeping the cards. The entire interaction made me feel as though I was being treated like I was doing something wrong, when all I was trying to do was use prepaid punch cards with no expiration date. Unfortunately, because of how this was handled, I won't be returning.

Now that they have a Mesa location, it is a little more convenient for me, as I currently live in Chandler. Even with the different locations, the high-quality product remains intact. I like the location of Mesa Novel Ice Cream because not only is there a lot to do nearby, but it is also a nice area to walk around when it is not too hot outside. There is also a nice coffee shop just a little walk away from the shop. The service at both locations is friendly, and every worker has been fun to talk to, especially when it is not busy and they have some time to spare. They are also happy to offer suggestions, whether it is ice cream flavors or delicious combinations that would pair well with their Dough Melt. While the vast majority of ice cream flavors complement the Dough Melt, the sorbets are hit and miss with the Dough Melt, but by themselves, their sorbets are some of the most refreshing sorbets you can have. I recommend Novel Ice Cream to anyone in the Mesa area; it has the best ice cream in Arizona, in my opinion. I also encourage everyone to try their Dough Melt at least once, as it is unbelievable.
