Honestly, one of the best adrenaline junkie things to do!!! I got lucky and was able to sit in the back of the rig, which is the best for catching air, sand and laughter! I would highly recommend this place to any adult wanting some zest out of their vacation or trip. (Cannot speak on kids behalf, don't have them.) My siblings and I are looking forward to going back and being big kids again! Pro Tips: Wear full on clothing; any under shirt, hoodie jacket, pants, tennis shoes or similar. For long hair, would recommend tying it back, it gets crazy out there. Protective covers for your phone or camera, sand get's in a lot of places. It can be a little intense. So I wouldn't advise it for those that aren't as adventurous. They do drive fast and maneuver around the dunes like you wouldn't imagine. This was so fun! I wish I could have drove my own dune buggy, but knowing me and how I drive, I might end up stuck somewhere, upside down. So this is much safer, and a great way to learn about the dunes. Our driver was awesome. He shared some great details and really knew how to get through the dunes smoothly. It's not a super fast ride, but there were some fun exhiliarting moments. Enough for me, my partner, and our 2 year old daughter. We didn't get any specks of sand on our body. Maybe other reviewers went on windier days. We went mid-July, and it was not windy, but I do recommend a jacket or sweater, because you do get a little chilly. Loved this place. We rode the big dune buggy and played miniature golf, did cart racing and bumper boats. The kids had a blast. The staff was friendly on the phone and in person. Would highly recommend this place if your in Florence. Prices were reasonable for all activities. When riding the dune buggies, make sure you dress warm and wear sunglasses/protective eye wear especially if you wear contacts. Sand will get in your eyes. read more

We have done the 1-hour sand rail tour twice before and LOVED it so much that we recommend it to all our friends. Unfortunately, our most recent 3rd tour was a big disappointment for all - us & several friends that we had persuaded to spend the $75/person cost. Not nearly as thrilling or adventurous as in the past. The manager spoke to our driver who couldn't offer any reasonable explanation for the difference in experience. She suggested that people our party lied about their weights (even though there were 2 empty seats & all but one person on the tour weighed less than 150lbs). I give it 2 stars for attention to safety, pleasant driver & the spectacular views of the giant dunes but unfortunately, we won't be using or recommending this company again. read more

We came here on Tuesday, 03/28/17, for the 2pm tour. I wish I could give this more stars, as it was by far the best part of our vacation to the coast. I have never been so scared or had so much fun in my life! My 9 year old son and I did the 30 minute Sandrail Tour, and next time we will do the hour! We had James as our driver who was spectacular. You could tell he really loves his job and that kind of attitude spread to everyone. My kiddo got to sit up front with him and James was just the nicest guy ever. He made sure we were all safe, but had an incredible time. When we come back in the summer I will be requesting him for our guide! I just can't say enough great things about our entire experience. Aside from James, the entire staff really deserves recognition. I've never met people who genuinely enjoy what they do so much. Even the gal I bumped into in the bathroom who was refilling the toilet paper was super friendly and happy! A huge thanks to Darla, Shelby, and the rest of your reservations staff. I was in a panic Saturday night after not booking our tour in time. I sent e-mails to them and got a response on a day they were closed, both by e-mail and facebook. First thing Tuesday morning they returned my calls and got us in for the tour. I'm sure I drove the staff crazy with my crazy, but you would never be able to tell. And the gal that checked us in was super nice. Everyone is just wonderful there! This is worth every penny. You will never experience anything like it! But splurge and get the hour tour. read more

I did a half hour dune buggy tour, and I was by far the most fun thing I had done in a long time. Our driver was very nice, and definitely loved his job. He happily explained to me all about the engine of the buggy and how it worked. The ride itself was amazing. Make sure to wear pants and a sweatshirt, because it gets very cold on the ride. Additionally, you get very sandy, so make sure to bring a change of clothes. My only complaint was not doing the hour tour. Totally worth the price, and a must do if your in the area. read more

Too much crammed into one space, disorganized and short staffed. That nice kid also ran two other attractions. I am not a wimp, that being said this is truly an adventure if you take the smaller sand rails. Be prepared for lots of not knowing where you are going at high speeds, fast left or right turns, and going full blast up sand mountains that have no horizons, deep valleys at full speed and sideways rail grip on huge shifting sand hills. Our driver put us thru the courage test. Almost a bit of "Mad Max" at times as our driver could have been part of cast, he kept asking if we "wanted more", and we did so he upped the level of speed and adventure. Every 10 seconds was saying to myself "oh no", or ... "not going to make it". Pretty sure did not see any reviews said "hang on for life". This totally surpasses any zip line or bungie jumping as this was a trip for 1 + hours. They check group a few minutes out after first few dune hits. Out of 3 sand rails we were the only ones who did all the big stuff. Do the drivers a favor ... I highly suggest if you have someone in group who has fears might be best to tell them up front so you could be put in slower sand rail or just opt out. You do not want to be the person that makes his entire sand rail buggy group back early because you are the one person in group could not handle it. read more

I have taken the tours at both Sandland Adventures and Sand Dunes Frontier. They are both fun, entertaining and somewhat educational...what you might call "edutainment". The Sandland Giant Dune Buggy tour is a solid value and is a good mix of laid-back sightseeing (we even spotted migrating whales spouting out at sea), and a bit of steep dune runs towards the end of the tour. It is not the adrenaline pumping ride you will get on the smaller sandrails, but for the price it's great. Between Sandland and Sand Dunes Frontier, I think Sand Dunes has a slight edge with their Big Blue rig with the giant airplane tires. It was a bit more informational and maybe it was the driver, but seemed a bit more fun on the dunes. Either way, you will have a good time so if one is booked-up, try the other. They are very close in proximity to each other. read more

My family was on spring break, and we wanted to experience the Oregon Dunes on a dune buggy tour. Sandland was the least advertised of the 3 big names, but Spinreel was doing maintenance and Sand Dunes Frontier's seat belts couldn't secure my 6-year-old. SDF to their credit suggested I go 4 miles up the street to Sandland (who I didn't know about - their brochures aren't nearly as prevalent as the others in my experience), and indeed they were capable. Even better, they were offering full 60-minute tours to the ocean (unlike what the others were offering in early April)! Mike was our driver and he was fantastic. He sat my kids (6 and 8) up front with him, and we also rode with a family with a couple of teen boys. We all had a blast. Mike was routinely checking on us all even as he gunned it at 70 on the straightaways, drove us on 60-degree angles, and generally defied gravity for about 75% of our time with him. Along the way he gave us a brief bit of info on the dunes and nearby Florence (via a nice overlook). He also took our photo as we were at the Pacific, so bring your cameras if you can! Though one family didn't, and he used his own phone and mailed them afterwards. The experience of ramping up an almost vertical dune, to then topping it and staring down the wall at the other side, with a landscape as far as the eye could see of more of the same, on a blue sky with a half-moon visible, was perhaps the most otherworldly experience of my life. And then when he kicked in the motor, it was like the last 20-minutes of "2001." The pleasure synapses were firing so hard as the ride ended that when the other family asked us what we were doing for the rest of our trip, I, meticulous planner I am, could not even gather my thoughts coherently to speak. It was THAT good. Go with this group - you won't regret it! read more

My family ride in the slower, scenic dune buggy. We saw marvelous views of the ocean, forest, and dunes. We learned about the geology of the dunes as well. This was the most fun we had on our Oregon coast vacay. The drivers are professional, trust that they'll show you a good time. And don't forget to tip them! 1 hour Sandrail Tour... DO IT!!!! I was still shaking for an hour after our ride from the adrenaline rush!! Our driver, Phil - AWESOME!!! Shared some interesting history of the dunes and was sure to point out what we were looking at from the crest. But most importantly, he took the dunes like a pro, attacked them with speed and quick drops - it was a roller coaster ride!! We thought about renting our own ATVs, so glad we didn't!! I would not have been able to replicate this adventure for sure! Only thing I would change: maybe a brief explanation (assurance) of how the vehicle stays upright prior to departure - but that's just me and my crazy. Note: Be prepared for a white-knuckle ride and to get sand EVERYWHERE. I'm still "finding" sand even after multiple showers since then. read more

Been here 3 times in the past year and LOVE it! It's a total package for families and the staff are all great. Did the sand dune buggy which was AWESOME! Mike, our driver, provided a fun and thrilling drive, plus he catered nicely to having a three year old in our group too. Kudos to him! The staff also pulled out the Choo Choo Train just for the kids in our group, despite there only being six of us. They made the train and whole ride in house which is amazing because it's fun and large! I was really impressed. The rest of the facility is clean, well kept and family friendly. We were on the big buggy and although it moved slower than its smaller relatives, it was still a lot of fun. I can't comment on how we were treated, because we showed up on time and ready to go, but I can say that the driver could have been much more engaging and enthusiastic about taking us out on the dunes. He did try to tell us stuff over the speaker system, but it was so quiet no one could hear anything he said. If you aren't sure that you'll like it, try out the big slow buggy first. It's cheap and it's only an hour. Dress warm! read more

this was my second time doing the sandrail tour. i did both the 30 minute tour and the 1 hour tour. the 30 minute tour was a good intro to the dunes, but i HIGHLY recommend doing the 1 hour tour if you have the time. one difference was that hour long tour also took us down to the beach. but our host DAN was the best part of the tour. he was just the right amount of crazy. he made the tour so much better for us adrenaline junkies by hitting the dunes faster and being more risky than my previous guide. he was also very friendly and professional. the only complaint i have is that the mask rule was not being enforced. read more

Our family took the half hour ride with Mike G. and it was great. There were several stops along the way where he would point out interesting things and you could take some pics. The only bad thing was we were sitting in the back row and sometimes had a hard time hearing what he was saying because the engine was right behind us.
