Ok, what's good; let's see what I can come up with: the place is clean; great rest room cleanliness, and the staff is friendly. But we went there for the food, so here's the not-so-good. We went on a Saturday bc that is the day they have a sauerbraten special; and I LOVE the stuff. Three of us had it and all agreed it was DRY!! Very dry. I rank it about the worst I ever had. The sides of sauerkraut and spatzle were bland even though there was a gravy (which was apparently in short supply). The fourth in our party had a large salad with shrimp which was well over-cooked. We started with cocktails and selected a bottle of wine with the meal which didn't arrive until the waitstaff was reminded. Given our experience, I would not recommend this establishment. read more

We ate the lunch buffet here with friends we were visiting in the area. This was amazing food! The buffet had a nice selection and the food was so good I went up for seconds. I could have stayed for more, but we had somewhere to go. Stopped in for a late lunch on the way to the airport. Had the whole joint to ourselves and that gave us pause. That was the end of any concern. Penny, our server, greeted us warmly and brought drink orders quickly. Cheerfully answered questions and volunteered information. Traveling partners ordered schnitzel, red cabbage, salad with walnuts and bleu cheese, "German Lunch" with Bratwurst on a German roll. I ordered schnitzel on pretzel roll with german potato salad. Orders were cooked and brought to the table quickly and courteously. Schnitzels were perfectly cooked (disagree with review that touts pan-fried). The pretzel roll was crusty on top with a little salt on it, soft in the middle. Held up well with the mustard/mayo mix and veggies on the sandwich. Potato salad could have had a touch more vinegar for my taste but it was quite good. Partners thought their choices were delicious. Great food. I've always liked it. Just don't get the buffet if you don't have a large stomach. Otherwise you don't feel you're getting your moneys worth. You can't take leftovers. This is a beautiful establishment in the heart of Punta Gorda. We stopped here for a quick lunch on a weekday and found a place we will return to often. Atmosphere and seating: hostess seating in a roomy comfortable setting. Lots of wood furniture and antiquities make up the decor. There is a small bar where a group of locals gathered to talk over steins of german beer. Food: During our visit, a German buffet was offered. There were not a huge selection of choices but everything there was authentic tasting and very delicious. If you go on a Schnitzel buffet day- make sure that you try both the brown and the cream gravy. If you do not want a buffet, they do have a wonderful looking menu. We were just passing through Punta Gorda, and we came across this lovely german restaurant called Sandra's. We had to stop by! We had the German bratwurst sausage and the jäger schnitzel. Both meals very delicious and very German taste and the service was great!. The bratwurst was juicy and with the right amount of spices. The schnitzel was cooked just right and the mushroom sauce was delish. If I am ever passing or staying at Punta Gorda, I will definitely stop by Sandra's German restaurant again for sure! read more

My husband and I were fortunate enough to participate in a cooking class at Sandra's, learning to cook several German dishes in her spotless kitchen. We love this restaurant and eat dinner here at least once a week. The staff is friendly and the owner frequents the dining room visiting with her patrons. Sandra oh sweet Sandra, what a sweet lady. The spaetzle is wonderful. The sautéed onions are out of this world; I'm guessing butter, sugar (to help with the caramelization), and a little bit of the magic "L" ingredient. . . lard. Whatever the mix might be (possibly unicorns) I believe it to be magic. The rest of the food wasn't bad but not the best I've ever had; if looking for quality German food Stephan's in Bonita is on point. The only downside to this establishment is the parking; our group was 10 seconds away from eating at a subpar burger joint because we couldn't find a place to park. But alas, our love for beer and food kept us focused on our journey for parking and to our avail a glorious liter of German beer, and a top heavy waitress, awaited us upon arrival to sweet ole Sandra's. We had an "okay" experience with friends here. The Wiener schnitzel was very good, but the bratwurst was very soft and flavorless and the sides of sauerkraut, bread and potato salad were all just so-so. Even the lunchtime buffet is pricey for the very limited offerings. We had to wait twice for items on the buffet to be replenished even though the restaurant had few other customers. The kitchen apparently can't produce more than six items of anything at a time. Beers and desserts were okay, but nothing special and definitely overpriced. We ordered off the lunch menu while they had a buffet out. Mistake. The dumplings were as if someone mashed bread in to a ball. The schnitzel was super thin, super low grade with barely a trace of meat in it. definitely not made in house. Sauces all from a jar. It was a horrific experience. This restaurant has authentic German food and a delicious lunch buffet. Besides excellent service the dining room was authentically European. Buffet included Weiner schnitzel and two types of bratworst, warm potato salad and bread dumplings, curry sauce, fabulous German rye bread and dark bread, And a very tasty Cauliflower soup. He had the Jäger schnitzel which comes with mushroom sauce, sauerkraut and potato pancakes.
