A friend introduced us to Sandshakers, in a cant-miss brightly painted orange building, an only-in-Florida color, near Seminole St just west of Alt-19, a little north of downtown Clearwater FL. It has a friendly neighborhood vibe, with easy street-parking and a dogs-allowed enclosed patio. We call it Sandy Feet :-) The fried grouper sandwich was very good and reasonably priced. And they'll cook your catch. There is indoor and outdoor seating. They have a full bar, too. And weekend live music. We just never drove down their little street before! It's right by the bike path . Hearty seasoned filets wrapped in a warm tortilla, topped with a fresh homemade picante and chipotle sauce on the side. This was a wonderful little food/bar shack house off the trail and off Missouri if you're coming from Dunedin. It was probably the crispiest fish I ever had and the fry stayed on the seafood after biting into it. Kale salad was lovely. Cocktail sauce a little sweet for me - I asked for extra horseradish and it was perfect. My only ding - they need one high end white wine available as the wine selections were mediocre. parking was small but easy to navigate, right near the water. we stopped in on a thursday afternoon and sat on the outdoor patio. outside there was a cute bar, lots of fans, and live music on certain evenings. We each spent around 20 dollars for our meals + drinks. I have a lot of food allergies and the waitress made sure to double check if i could have certain items. the burgers were huge as pictures and really well seasoned/prepared. The blue cheese was very strong and the bacon was really crispy, all the other ingredients like the onions and lettuce were very fresh. only gripe is that the jalapeño popper on top of the sandshackle burger thingy was a little lack luster. still very yummy cute little spot! read more

This review is in response to Paul V.'s poor rating of this excellent establishment. Ordered a Diet Coke and grouper and after an exuberant amount of groupers in my life I could say this tops the list. In regards to the fries, I count 17, plenty to satisfy my belly after 27 holes of golf and two double transfusions. I did spot the coke storage and it was a chilly room temp. Any casual bar customer will know, beer, not wine is the play here. Fish tacos were also ample portion size. My boy Greg got the wings and rated them a solid 7/10. Went on a tuesday night and had a great time. It was open mic night so they had several musical acts play. They were all really good. The food is delicious here. Who ever is cooking is doing a great job. Wings were cooked perfectly and tasted great. Their ranch tasted home made and not store bought. Shrimp tacos were really good. Their burger is humongous and comes with a bacon wrapped grilled jalepeno on top. Their outdoor patio is the highlight of the place and thats where the stage is and most of the action. Liquor drinks were $6-$8. Beers are $5ish. I had to drink Jack because they dont have Jim Beam. Please get a bourbon! This place is a hidden gem in clearwater. read more

So it began with a warm, almost hot can of Diet Coke that must have been stored outdoors. Ice immediately melted when poured into the glass, leaving a watered down soda. There was no white wine but the red was not room temp. It was outside temp. Hot. We should have taken this as a sign I ordered a grouper sandwich. It was by far the worst of 10-12 I've had this year. Maybe a 5 ounce portion dwarfed by a huge bun. The tomatoes tasted of onion when I had asked for no onion. It was over cooked, rubbery to the point of unable to be cut with a fork and flavorless except for the seasoning. I sent it back and kept the very small, maybe 15, side of fries for which I was charged $9 after taking one bite of the sandwich. Yikes. The wings were a solid C. Average to the point we said they weren't worth the calories. They had undercooked sides to them where they stuck together, you need to shake that fryer basket at least once.... We were so looking forward to this local spot after reading the reviews. But for sure we are one and done here. read more

This is like going to a really good friends secret bar and restaurant in his/her backyard!!! It is not surrounded by commercial buildings and is in a neighborhood of homes and is really in the backyard! It's spotlessly clean. Has an indoor area in front with a pool table but the live music and action is in the backyard. The food is fantastic. I had fish & chips and they come so hot you gotta wait a sec before eating. My favorite restaurant in Clearwater, way better than anything downtown or by the beach! Ambiance is casual so don't expect fancy tables, come for the food. Had dinner with family and we shared lobster bisque, wedge salad, big fried prawns, shrimp and grits. Everything was exceptional but here's a few highlights. Bisque was expected creamy texture, lots of tender lobster bits, a tiny bit of spice, perfect. Wedge was typical wedge but dressing was tasty and fresh, lots of blue cheese and bacon, their wedge had red onion and I really liked it. Fried shrimp were big and tender, breading was tasty and not overdone and the fries were good too. Cocktail sauce was great with a very subtle horseradish bite to it. Shrimp and grits was my favorite, lots of creamy sauce, lots of shrimp, a bit of greens in there, everything I like. They had cans of Guinness which I like but they also had a full bar. Service was friendly and attentive but not overbearing and they finished the meal by bringing us some beignets that were fresh and not too sweet, perfect way to end the meal. We took a chance on a new place to try in the area and picked Sandshakers based on the location and reviews. We were pleasantly suprised after seeing the outside of the restaurant and the outdoor seating area. It basically looks like a house converted into a restaurant with the bar being inside the garage and outdoor seating in the driveway. Its a no frills location but the service and food was delicious. There were three of us in our group and I had the mushroom and swiss burger and the other two had classic cheeseburgers. They were cooked to order and large for the price. The slaw was the best I've ever had. The kale and green apples made all the difference in the world. This experience could have had some misses, but our server/bartender saved the experience for us. My friend and I arrived looking for a lunch location near Hatchet Hangout in Clearwater to get a bite to eat before our party threw axes. When we entered, it was like a small house with street parking and no one was inside. There were a few empty tables inside and the server stations and restrooms. We ventured out back with no employees in sight and found some folks in the back patio/bar area. The man made us aware that his staff didn't show that day and he didn't have a bartender so he'd be moving slower. I ordered a mix drink and was informed no pineapple juice, so I stuck with water and she got a Reef Donkey and we grabbed a table. A woman named Stacey arrived and was full of smiles and charisma. She joked that she wasn't supposed to be there that day but had a feeling it'd be worthwhile having our group around. She helped us get enough shade and spots for everyone and was more than attentive. Our group of 8 ordered drinks, and when I asked for a sangria, I was asked if I wanted salt on the rim. Little odd, but didn't second guess it. After everyone else had drinks delivered, she said "your margarita will be up in a moment" and I realized she had misheard me. I went up to let them know but saw it was made and said not to worry about it. We got two things of chips and Queso which had a little bit of spice to it and the chips had both salt and pepper. The calamari was good too and was devoured by a handful of us. Overall, the service provided by Stacey and her general demeanor made this experience worthwhile.
