We heard this was the place to go in Clearwater so we made it our beach day lunch spot. We lucked out and were seated right away. The menu has a little bit of everything so it was hard to choose. We started with the baked octopus appetizer and were pleasantly surprised with the amount of octopus included -- great start to our meal. Our waiter mentioned that Frenchy's is most known for its grouper so for my meal I chose grilled grouper with a side of coconut rice and veggies. It was simple but good.
Best meal of our trip to Florida!!!! We came here highly recommended after our sunset dolphin cruise and it was perfect. The atmosphere was a blast and the service by Brytnie was excellent. Most of us are from Kansas so we are not necessarily a seafood crowd, but we really loved the fish we got. I had fish street tacos, the fried grouper, and it was fantastic. It tasted so fresh and like I definitely wasn't in Kansas anymore. Many of us tried our first gator tale which just tasted like Cajun seasoning. The drinks were super cheap!!! This was all in all SUCH a hit. It's the kind of place I'd want to be a regular at if I lived nearby!
This is a cool place to go for that beach vibe atmosphere. The service is great for as many people that they have to serve at once. Parking in insane so be patient when trying to find a spot. My son ordered the pretzel that is shaped like a fish and it was cold and hard. But they replaced it no questions asked. I had the fried grouper sandwich. It was great but would be better on a brioche bun instead of the onion bun. The drinks are great and reasonably priced for a beach bar.
When we're near Clearwater Beach, we always stop in at one of the Frenchy's locations. This time (Oct 2025) we chose Frenchy's Saltwater Cafe on Poinsettia Ave, just north of the FL-60 causeway, just a block east of Mandalay Av. We love dining and drinking on the porch or at the small porch bar, with fans that keep it cool. Sometimes we'll head into the indoor dining area if the weather is iffy. Service is always friendly and attentive. Friday just after noon we were seated quickly, but it can get pretty busy at times. We often go for their grouper, but today we shared their huge fresh snapper sandwich, grilled with snappy cajun jerk seasoning, served with lettuce and tomato, some Parmesan and Romano, and a little tartar sauce on a soft fresh onion roll. It was juicy and perfectly cooked, tender and luscious, and big enough for two to share! Those fresh and lightly salted home-made chips sure are tasty! And we added a bowl of their thick rich she-crab soup, rich and flavorful, with a light touch of cayenne for a slow burn. For us, their fresh seafood can't be beat! And they have a full menu beyond seafood, too. They have daily budget-friendly specials, such as seafood tacos, shrimp platters, or burgers or cheese-steaks, and a daily beer or mixed-drink special too. They have a good amount of on-site parking in front and down the south side. They have other locations nearby, some busier, some larger, some with views. This quieter tucked-away location is our favorite :-)
If you are looking to cool off from the summer Florida heat, this isn't your spot, but if you are looking for great seafood at a fair price with great surf town ambience and friendly service this is a winner! There are parking options all around the area, so easy to get to and plenty of places to sit both outside and inside.
We are such "local" fans of French's Salt Water on CWB! We can walk, bike or boat to get fresh fish, great service and a fun vibe! Steve, Tyler, Leslie, Amber and all of the servers are Amazing! Go to this location... you will love your experience! PS Keep the Summer Salad on the regular menu ... Please!
Service was friendly and fast despite a good turn out of customers. Fried seafood hit the spot and their coleslaw with pineapple was a fun twist. Atmosphere is family friendly and laid back. Parking is nuts but that holds for the entire downtown area
Frenchys was a cute indoor outdoor cafe. We go the shrimp to start, it was good, very salty which I like but if you dont like or cant eat salt I would not suggest this dish. It tasted almost like a Louisiana gumbo sauce with shrimp! the crab fries were awesome. The wedges salad was fine, the balsamic drizzle on top was a weird taste with the blue cheese dressing in my opinion. The drinks here are super good and cheaper than surrounding areas. Our server was super nice, quick, and attentive. Super casual in the best way- beach attire.
After taking an afternoon cruise on the water, it was time for dinner. I've had Frenchy's Saltwater Cafe bookmarked as a place to try when I made it to the Tampa area, so that was an obvious choice. I ordered the red snapper sandwich Cajun style without tomato or tartar, my wife got the steak hoagie with no peppers or onions, one kid got a grilled cheese with fries, and the other kid got the adult chicken tenders with fries (kids only has 2-3, adult has 4-5). We also got grouper nuggets for an appetizer and a piece of key lime pie for dessert. The grouper nuggets were amazing. Probably the freshest fish I've ever tasted. It immediately made me wish I had gone with the grouper sandwich instead of the red snapper. Highly recommend these. No complaints from anyone with their entrees. The red snapper was still very good (even though the grouper are probably would have been amazing). The key lime pie didn't have much tartness to it, which was a little disappointing and the only knock on the food we tried. As expected, the place was busy being close to Clearwater Beach. Still, we got seated fairly quickly and the food came out faster than expected. The waiter was awesome (unfortunately I didn't catch his name).
Part of the famous Frenchys businesses in Pinellas County Saltwater has to be one of my favorite ones. It's not as touristy as Rockaways but still has that quality service, food and consistency that all of us locals know of from Frenchys. My go to drink will always be a Miami Vice. I went with my mother that day and the bartender greeted my mom from memory (my mom is a regular here). Sometimes I crave their Shrimp Tacos. I will always recommend Frenchys to my friends who come from out of town.
Another great drink by this chain of restaurants in the surrounding area and I would definitely come back for the drinks. I am not sure how the food was or much of things around, but the place just didn't look as nice as the other locations and there are spills on the floor of water, not cleaned up. It was just weird but as far as the drink that I had because it was fantastic.
We were in Clearwater Beach last week and when we are in FL I like to take advantage of the availability of fresh seafood. After reviewing options on Yelp it was clear that Frenchy's was the place to go. They have several locations there and my foodie sense told me that this location was the one to go to. We were not disappointed. We were there 2 nights. The first night although they are known for their grouper, I ordered the Cajun Red Snapper sandwich recommended by our server. It was ok, not as good as other places I've gotten red snapper in the past. The 2nd time we went I ordered the Crab fries with garlic aioli and mussels in white wine. They were awesome and very reasonably priced. We also went to a different Frenchy's location one day for lunch, Got the Grouper sandwich original style which is battered and fried. It was the bomb! Loved it. I'm including a picture of the grouper sandwich on this review since it's the same as what we would get at this location. My wife ordered the chicken nachos and they were great! I loved the ambiance as well. Definitely eat here!
Candidly, this place will not get enough traction being off the beach and off the beaten path. Plus, there are just better locations and views at South Beach and Rockaway. Just came for the drink on my Passport but my bartender was super sweet and friendly offering lots of advice and insights. Having said that, this was my LAST stop on the Cocktail Challenge, and I enjoyed my drink on a humid day and, if I'm being honest, lived my Dockside Lemonade the best of all the drinks on the challenge. I had the Banana Hammock and, of course, the Rum Runner, which was outstanding, but this Dockside Lemonade was cool and refreshing and welcomed. A little sweet as a heads up, but really a nice summer drink! At the end of the day, this was a great way to finish my challenge and had a pleasant experience! For the record, if you are interested in the challenge. Go South Beach, Rockaway, Saltwater (for the views and true on-the-beach dining). End with a grouper sandwich (the best I had) at the Original and then cash in your passport at the next block at Off the Hook! read more
LOVE LOVE LOVE Frenchy's! I love me a good Cajun seafood place & this place nails it OuiOui. Fabulous fresh seafood dishes & I love their fresh brewed ice tea & own brand of Frenchy's hot sauce! YUM! :)... A very cute little indoor/outdoor Cajun seafood place that has daily locally caught grouper OuiOui. I love the locally caught grouper. They have the platters, the Sammy, etc., They make it all different kinds of ways, fried, grilled, blackened, with Jerk sauce etc., but the grouper fish tacos is where it's at baby! Woohoo! I cannot wait for Fish Fridays OuiOui :)... I had the most wonderful experience at Frenchy's with the beautiful Ms Brit! She is a lovely lady, knew the menu inside & out, gave me taste test of everything, we had so much fun! It was a pirate feast! Arrrr! OuiOui! LOL She told me about the bayou shrimp & how good the sauce is & she was RIGHT! You must order the bayou shrimp, the sauce is fabulous. I loved it so much I added it to my Grouper Tacos O.MY.GAWD! So yummy! I haven't stopped thinking about them! I might not make it to Fish Friday to have them again hahahaha :)... I added some of Their signature brand of hot sauce to them also which gave them a nice kick! YUM YUM YUM YUM! Their hot sauce is perfect, not too hot, just right OuiOui. I loved it so much I ordered the broiled oysters added their hot sauce to them also WOZA! Just spectacular broiled oysters. The sauce on them was also amazeballs. First time we've been at this location after dining at three other Frenchy's. The Original Grouper was the food of choice and it was outstanding. Service was awesome. Though it's not as beachy as some of the other locations, it's still a top notch spot. read more

With the atmosphere of an old fish shack, this quaint Frenchy's location delivers the right atmosphere for Clearwater beach. Once inside you're met by a sizable bar area, tables and booths. The large mounted Sailfish surrounded by white string lights completes the atmosphere nicely. You can eat inside or on the patio. The servers are all cheerful, providing attentive service. With their own fishermen as part of the Frenchy's "empire," fish here is a must-have. Today I had a Super Grouper sandwich... almost three times larger than the bun! You have a choice of sides or add-ons. I had the coleslaw which is really good and fresh. The fish can be prepared a variety of ways... battered and fried is a fantastic choice; perfectly cooked. Even on a busy Saturday, this location is just enough the beaten path that it was a nil less crowded and hectic. My new favorite Frenchy's location! read more
My first trip to Clearwater and I had to stop by a Frenchys to try their famous grouper sandwich. It did not disappoint. We got the she crab soup which was so creamy and had great flavor. The crab fries were good and paired well with the original fried grouper sandwich. They also have a "Frenchys passport" where you can get a stamp at every frenchys place and get their signature drink and get a prize once you hit all the spots - how fun! read more

The ambiance here is relaxed and loud, typical for a beach restaurant. Decorations like "no shoes no shirt no service" can be found. And the food! Wow! Rueben grilled grouper sandwich: 9/10 would get again and order it dine-in cause the bread got a little soggy even though there was a cheese protecting layer. Greek octopus salad: 10/10 hands down probably the best salad I've eaten in a long time. The toppings had chopped up olives and pepperocini, feta cheese, beets (?), tomato, onion, cucumber. The dressing was so addictive! Lemony tender octopus too! Garlic crab fries: 10/10 that crispy batter takes this to another level, ultimate flavor bomb (not overwhelming) and rich sweet crab meat Grilled fresh grouper with coconut rice and steamed veggies: 9/10 coconut rice was so delicious and cooked perfectly. The steamed veggies(zucchini and carrots and bell peppers) were good too. The grouper was a generous portion and so flavorful and perfectly cooked. I couldn't ask for any better food and the wait staff work very hard here yet are so nice!!restaurant seems busy from what it looks like and appears the beach town is recovering from Hurricanes. We visited several places while on the island and quickly realized this is a popular spot with several locations. (You can see my other reviews). Another difference is the menus can be slightly different. I loved the other locations but this one stole my heart with the nightly specials that even include Friday nights. When I go back to Clearwater Beach, I will visit this location often. The service was excellent and you can grab a quick bite for a very reasonable price! When you are on vacation and eating out most meals this is really important. read more

A must when in Clearwater! The food is extreeeemely salty. But it does the trick after a few drinks, it's basically bar food. Did not have any seafood but saw it flowing all around us. Love the vibe everyone is so friendly when you sit at the bar, we made friends and went back again the next day, such a great time. the servers are attentive and helpful. read more
Laya is our server and she's friendly, knowledgeable, and made me feel comfortable. We ordered the Seafood pot pie. WOW HANDS DOWN!!! Meat in every single bite. Sunset Grouper is fabulous and coconut milk rice is amazing. The ambience is cool rock and roll music in a covered outdoor setting. I found it to be very refreshing . I would highly suggest that you try it out. read more

We came by for lunch on a Friday afternoon. We were seated right away and our drink order taken. This is a very busy place with staff always on the hustle. We ordered cajun grouper sandwich and Super grouper Caribbean Jerk. We waited a short bit for our food but enjoyed watching some of the tourist. It is a bit loud for our taste but not unbearable. The grouper sandwiches were very good as always. We will be back during the off season. read more

In my first visit to Clearwater, we decided to go to Frenchy's. Everything we ordered hit the mark and was great for the price! Service was a bit slower but it also was a very busy Thursday night. I would definitely come back here or the other sister restaurants on my next visit! read more

Frenchie's is a Clearwater Beach staple, with locations all along the beach and causeway. Frenchie's Saltwater Cafe has a very funky vibe. Not only very beach, but for a restaurant it has a fun, almost party atmosphere. Party of five, four of us chose the Friday shrimp and fries special. The "baskets" had an abundance of fries and though it says 9 shrimp, one diner commented that every time he finished one shrimp and ate a fry, he'd find another shrimp, I chose the female crab chowder, loaded with meat and flavor and the conch fritters. Crispy, crunchy and spicy, they did not disappoint. We didn't have to wait long to be seated, or to get served. And the food was hot. They're still raving about the pineapple cole slaw! read more
So, I'm a Phillies fan and I've heard about Frenchy's for years. Well finally got to go after a Phillies Grapefruit League game this year. Have to say I was somewhat disappointed. Service was hmmm. A bit annoying. When the server finally came over he was kinda short with his responses ( I grew up in Philly so I'm used to not so nice servers in the diners I used to go to ). He actually sat down at our table to take our order. Didn't appreciate that (my girlfriend could see I was ready to get after him) - a table is kind of a private space for customer. It's also a little loud there but we finally got our orders across to him. Got a grilled grouper sandwich which was actually good. My friend got a burger that was a special that day and she said it was good. I will say that they can lose the onion rolls on the sandwiches. They're kinda... gross. Not sure about this place but it wasn't worth the drive from the stadium. They could do better. It certainly isn't Philly Dilly! Go Phightins ! read more

There are a lot of Frenchy's in Clearwater, so they must be doing something right! I am not sure the difference between all of them, but we ended up going to one closest to where our car was parked. We got the chicken nachos and crab fries for an appetizer. Both were delicious. I got a rum runner with an extra floater for my drink. It took a while for me to sip because it was so strong. For my entree, I got the grouper sandwich because it seemed like it was world famous. It had 4 different options for how it could be prepared. I got it with coleslaw, and I enjoyed it. The service was fast for our table of 6. The ambiance is very casual and beachy. It's perfect for arriving in a wet bathing suit and coverup. The sun was shining, and it was another beautiful day in the Sunshine State! read more

Great place, just off the main tourist area of Clearwater. What a lovely find! Very beachy vibe for this seafood place. Popular place for locals and tourists in the know . The interior is casual and friendly. There are tables for larger groups as well as seating at the bar. They have an extensive seafood menu with some non seafood dishes. They also have regular daily specials to choose from. We enjoyed their famous grouper sandwich and the special for the day- shrimp basket with fries. Both dishes also came with coleslaw- which in my opinion is especially delicious. The hype is real for the grouper sandwich - a generous serving of fish served between fresh bread- they offer different seasonings- we chose the classic grilled to savor the fresh grouper flavor. The shrimp basket was also great- the shrimp tasted fresh and not too much batter. To top things off they serve Golden Roads Mango Cart - which is a favorite for this CA native. If you can fight the crowds- highly recommend this local spot! read more

I had so much fun at Frenchy's Saltwater location! The bartender, Jess, was an absolute doll. Super kind and attentive. I ordered the pretzel (super cute!) and it came with some white queso and honey mustard. It was definitely enough for more than one person. Drinks were good and they have a passport that you can take to their 4 locations and get a T-shirt at the end. So fun! read more
