From Chicago breaded steak, Boston roast beef, and Indiana pork tenderloin sandwiches along with their classic diner menu items, Rye Street is a travel guide of classic American dining. From savory to sweet, your tastebuds will enjoy the ride. Which brings me to this post on the Chicago breaded steak sandwich. When I saw their video on the prep for this sandwich I knew I was in. Hadn't had a breaded steak "san" in many years and it did not disappoint. Paper thin steak is breaded and quickly fried, with several pieces nested in a roll with marinara and melted mozzarella. So good, so good, so good! As always, I eat half and take home the rest for another meal and can say that a quick run in my air fryer and it was just as tasty the next day. I was so caught up with this sandwich that I forgot about the desserts that are now offered and it wasn't until I got home that I saw the image of the crumb cake. Came in today for a hot pretzel and bring home crumb cake and was offered up a free pickle at the counter as I placed my order. Just when I thought it couldn't get more NYC than I take a bite out of the crunchiest, garlicky, and juiciest pickle. It's like I reached in and took it out of a pickle barrel. Now, a garlic kissed pickle isn't for everyone, but this NJ gal was raised on them, and this was like home for me. Haven't had decent crumb cake since I was 12 and 60 years later, I find it at Rye Street Deli & Dogs. Took one look at these delectable sweets and new I was back in Englewood. Not gonna lie, I purchased three and hands down, it was everything I had hoped for. Truly, if you are looking for the original NJ/NY crumb cake, the kind where the vanilla cake is moist and then topped with a thick layer of brown sugar and cinnamon streusel. (I nearly laid down on the floor and screamed it was so damn good and glad I had two more left for tomorrow's breakfast and dinner dessert). This was something that no other food truck was doing. My sister selected the 10 count of Rowdy Wings which cost $16. Half of the wings were BBQ and the other half were garlic parmesan. She purchased the Crispy Tater Tots for $5 as well. The wings were seasoned beautifully and fried to perfection. And the tater tots were crispy and delicious.
