We stopped in right after landing in Tampa, just looking for a quick local bite -- and before we even finished our meal, we were already figuring out what day we'd come back. We even joked about returning for dinner the same night. I had the fish tacos, which were fresh and perfectly seasoned. My girlfriend got the crab cake sandwich and loved it -- tons of real crab and seriously flavorful. This place has been on my bucket list forever and I finally had the opportunity to stop by today. Best kept secret in town! There's a reason the crab cakes sell out. I ordered the crispy crap rolls and my husband got the famous crab cake sandwich. The service and owner is amazing! It's BYOB so bring your own alcohol and have a blast! Small outside hole in the wall spot off the side of the road with mostly picnic bench seating. The menu is pretty limited and probably awesome for people all about seafood and old bay seasoning. I like a lot of seafood but this wasn't up my alley, just wish there were more options. What I had was pretty good- mini crab cake balls and hush puppies, they were good but not the best I've had. Others in my group had fish and chips and I noticed a lot of the batter fell off and seemed kind of messy. The service was friendly but slow, I'm sure this is due to everything being made as ordered which is good. Anything is worth a try at least once so I'd still recommend to people looking for something different. read more

My wife had the blue crab sandwich although it was very tasty it was also very small. I had a cheeseburger and it was a disappointment. The meat tasted like there was something mixed in with it. I thought maybe some bread to stretch the burger and make it appear larger. I know getting a cheeseburger at a place known for fish is not a good idea, not everyone is a fish lover. I fell hard for this place when it opened! Tiny shack of a kitchen, outdoor seating, no where location in front of a cow pasture- but they make da best crab cakes! This was a once a week lunch when I used to live here & my boys were addicted to the crab cakes & the crab bisque! Crab cakes- no fillers, no peppers, onions, bread crumbs... Just crab & old bay & whatever they use to hold it all together. I used to chat with the owner all the time I was such a regular! I was thrilled to grab my son and run over for an impromptu lunch! We ordered the crab cake sandwich and a bowl of the crab bisque to share and 2 lemonades- did I mention their lemonade is delicious? And very complimentary to the seafood. Service is always with a smile! And in the years I have been in Jax- they have built a roof to cover the outdoor picnic tables~ making it better to avoid that hot Florida sun. Kitchy cute food truck-ish vibe. The crab cake was delish - not quite Maryland lumpy but the flavor was spot on and jam packed with crab meat. Did I get a bit of shell? You bet. I never trust a crab cake without a smidge. The service was excellent, the potato salad and cole slaw were some of the best I've had. The couple who run it are adorable and super attentive. I've passed this place a few times while in town and finally had a chance to try it. Got their crab cake sandwich with kettle chips and was pleasantly surprised! The cake had a decent amount of crab in it while also being moist with a crunchy outside. The breading was great too and the kettle chips (which I was expecting to just be bagged chips) were made there with the right amount of oil and crunchiness you'd expect from kettle chips. Great bang for your buck for a quick lunch stop. Service was great too and the people there are easy to chat with. The location is a bit odd since it seems like it is randomly located but it's clean with plenty of seating. I grew up in Maryland. When I visit a seafood restaurant that mentions Maryland, 99% of the time I wonder if they even know where Maryland IS. Hubs says 'just don't order it, you'll be disappointed', I don't listen, and I often am. But sometimes, not too often, but sometimes.....they get it right. And THIS is one of those places. I put them to a test, too..... three items, infamous in Maryland and tough to recreate if you are just following a recipe. Crab Soup, Crab Cake, and a Softshell Crab Sandwich. Soup first, brought out first. Absolutely perfect. The right blend of crab and veggies - AND the correct veggies. The consistency of v8 juice, not a broth, not a chowder. Nice BIG pieces of crab. Nailed it. Onto the soft shell - OBC serves it on a roll - I like toast. They accommodated, and got it exactly right. Crispy legs, meaty body, and the size - oh my! Soft shells can be pretty small - this one was a biggie! Lettuce, tomato, Mayo. No weird aioli, chili lime drizzle or other ridiculous accompaniment. Served with their Old Bay handmade potato chips - it was if I was sitting on the edge of the Chesapeake Bay. Finally. the Crabcake. This is a tough one. The best crab cakes are made with backfin crabmeat, cost upwards of $20 (each) - and that's when crabmeat is local. OBC's crab cake is not backfin. And not every restaurants in Baltimore is either. Cost prohibitive! OBC's is very, very good. Crab, and enough 'filler' (meaning almost none). The correct kiss of Old Bay Seasoning - enough for a kick, not enough to overpower the taste of crab. Deep fried to perfection. Again, just served with plain accompaniments. The deal is to taste the crab. And you do. Overall, probably the BEST Maryland seafood I've had outside of Maryland. Ever. In a parking lot in Trinity. Who'd a thunk it? I'll be going back today for a shrimp salad sandwich. Oh, it's a 26 mile drive from my Air BnB. Don't care, it's closer than the 590 miles to Bawl'moor! read more

The crab cake balls were very good . They were served with stale crackers which I didn't understand . The cream of crab soup . Well the girl who works there said both soups were good but she combines them . Which I would recommend as the cream of crab was straight cream of mushroom or whatever with old bay on top . Just had lunch at Old Bay Cafe in Trinity, FL & felt like I was back in Maryland with the food. Marty & Channel thanks for an amazing lunch! The food was so incredible I had to get a crab cake & shrimp salad burrito to bring home for dinner! Channel gave us such cheerful and accommodating service while Marty made us one of the best meals I've had while in FL. Crab cake was a massive 5 oz all lump crab cake- broiled perfectly on the outside. And they are right when they say they don't fake the cake! My husband had the old bay tenders with homemade old bay potatoe chips. He was raving after every bite! We are looking forward to this becoming our new Saturday lunch spot! Crab cake is okay, not the best, some shells, be careful. I took one bite of the Mac n cheese ball and knew this was absolutely not worth eating even if I'm starving, I told the owner I did not like it and he tells me "I can't resell the one you tasted but I can refund the second one"! Are you from Maryland? If not, then just come here and understand that this is the best crab cake that you'll have ever have in your entire life. Not just that, but the rest of their food is really good as well. I came here with my Dad and we ordered the crab bisque soup (excellent), the shrimp (amazing), and a crab cake (outstanding). For sides, we got the kettle chips, cole slaw, and beans. Everything was absolutely outstanding and I can't say enough about their food. The service was friendly, and there wasn't anyone else here so we got served very quickly. Now... if you *ARE* from Maryland... well, this place isn't as good as *your* place. But let's be honest- NO PLACE will *ever* be as good as *YOUR* place. You know the one- the one you always eat at but never tell anyone about because you don't want it getting crowded. Stopped in for lunch. Absolutely love places like this. Lil spot off the side of the road with a good amount of seating outside. Some in the shade and some in the sun, we are down from Buffalo so we opted to sit it the sun! Ordered a crabcake sandwich and a softshell crab sandwich. Both came out looking great! The crab cake sandwich was a really nice size, perfect to share or for someone really hungry. Served on a burger roll with lettuce and tomato. You can pick a side of chips, slaw, or pasta salad (if memory serves, could be wrong it may have been potato salad). Opted for the slaw which was excellent. The crab cake was fantastic, flavorful and unlike so many others, not lambasted with breadcrumbs. The softshell crab sandwich was also very good.
