Fish tacos and the crab cake sandwich.

Old Bay Cafe completely blew us away. We stopped in right after landing in Tampa, just looking for a quick local bite -- and before we even finished our meal, we were already figuring out what day we'd come back. We even joked about returning for dinner the same night. I had the fish tacos, which were fresh and perfectly seasoned. My girlfriend got the crab cake sandwich and loved it -- tons of real crab and seriously flavorful. The vibe is super laid-back with shaded picnic tables, 80s music playing, and a super friendly owner who made us feel right at home. If you're anywhere nearby, do not skip this place. It's casual, local, and absolutely worth it.

This place has been on my bucket list forever and I finally had the opportunity to stop by today. Best kept secret in town! There's a reason the crab cakes sell out. I ordered the crispy crap rolls and my husband got the famous crab cake sandwich. The service and owner is amazing! It's BYOB so bring your own alcohol and have a blast! Cool outdoor seating atmosphere. You would pass it over and over again without noticing. Come check it out! Our food was absolutely amazing. They are open Tuesday-Saturday 11:30-6pm and Sunday 11:30-4pm.

Such wonderful customer service here. We were so excited to find a place that makes a "Baltimore snowball". Safe to say that everything exceeded our expectations. A nice relaxed atmosphere with great outdoor seating. Enjoyed an authentic Maryland crab cake with the most delicious old bay kettle chips. Everyone in our group enjoyed their meal and felt pleased with this hidden gem!

I fell hard for this place when it opened! Tiny shack of a kitchen, outdoor seating, no where location in front of a cow pasture- but they make da best crab cakes! This was a once a week lunch when I used to live here & my boys were addicted to the crab cakes & the crab bisque! Crab cakes- no fillers, no peppers, onions, bread crumbs... Just crab & old bay & whatever they use to hold it all together. I used to chat with the owner all the time I was such a regular! I was thrilled to grab my son and run over for an impromptu lunch! We ordered the crab cake sandwich and a bowl of the crab bisque to share and 2 lemonades- did I mention their lemonade is delicious? And very complimentary to the seafood. Service is always with a smile! And in the years I have been in Jax- they have built a roof to cover the outdoor picnic tables~ making it better to avoid that hot Florida sun. It is a BYOB if you choose. I REALLY miss eating here regularly! Locals- this is a crab cake treasure right here!

The service was excellent as always, but I just was not thrilled with the food this time. We tried the crab eggrolls I think is what it was called. Maybe it was lobster. I don't know. I ate half of one and gave the rest to my friend. I tried the three pepper crab soup I could not finish. It did not like it at all. I had the standard fried fish platter with grouper, scallops, and shrimp. This was actually delicious and so was the sweet potato fries and the macaroni salad and I typically do not like macaroni salad at all, but this was delicious. I took home smoked salmon, fish spread, and a large container of the lobster bisque. The smoked salmon spread definitely had more cream cheese than fish not bad tasting just disappointed on the amount of cream cheese. First time I've had their lobster bisque and it will be the last time. This is more like a lobster soup. It has so many chunks of celery in it and I've never had a bisque with large celery chunks before it wasn't bad tasting necessarily, but when you're thinking you're about to eat some bisque and it taste like this it's quite disappointing. I don't think they use Sherry in this particular bisque.

The vibe is laid back with a happy local riverside feel. The bar area is on the right with most of the dining tables to the left. Our server, Joseph, is aces! He suggested the fried mozzarella planks, which sounded great but, seeing as this was Lady Liberty's day we went for a classic, fried pickles with a template sauce. Joseph definitely knows the menu! For entrees she picked the fried shrimp basket and I went with the Almost Island Style Grilled Chicken sandwich. (The pineapple is what did it.) Chowder has to be made in advance. Thirty minutes after that, so an hour after we originally ordered, someone (the owner? another server? I don't know who.) said our food would be up soon. Our original server then came over to apologize and say that they hadn't even started our oysters, crab legs, or the Grouper platter at all. An hour later and they hadn't even started cooking?!
