These guys really struggle to get simple things right. Order over medium eggs and you get over easy (whites are nowhere near set), order over hard and you get something that would hang on the wall. Omlettes taste more like the griddle than the eggs, which isn't helped by their using sacks of pre-scrambled eggs. Great location, nice atmosphere, lots of potential. I was searching for a place for brunch/breakfast (that wasn't tollgate) in sandy and there seems to be slim pickings here. So we decided on SFR based a few yelp reviews and pics. Cute place inside, very clean, has a cute fireplace (wasn't on) but cozy environment. Food was actually pretty tastey. Good biscuits and gravy is always a plus. Portions were pretty large and definitely filled us up. I wouldn't go up and away about their food as it seemed to be like most other decent breakfast places, but it seems there are some entrees worth trying so next time we are out this way, I would return. Stopped for lunch on a ride to Mt Hood, definitely made the right choice to try this restaurant. They have the best Philly Cheesesteak sandwich, very much like the Phillies we used to make at our restaurant. Steak fries were cooked and seasoned perfectly. Comfortable chairs and booths also. This was our 4th trip to this restaurant, and we are continually pleased with our experience. The food is much fresher and homemade than some other places in town; the service has always been great. The chicken fried steak is absolutely great--my husband has ordered it a couple different times. One First Friday (a small town thing we do), all their appetizers were half price....I got the calamari and I was wonderful! They have a nice fireplace inside, but they haven't fired it up yet for year. A glass of house wine is only $4. Tonight I had the Blue Cheese Bacon burger--another homerun! Bacon is thick and cooked perfectly--not thrown in the deep fryer and life fried out of it. Fries are like steak house fries. Our waiter was awesome....after some speculation between him and us about what the lentil/barley/sausage soup might taste like, he spontaneously brought us out a "taster's" portion to try it. We will continue to visit here and try more dishes! read more

Ate here while waiting for the town parade to begin. The service was great and friendly . The food was subpar and the restaurant was dark. It had a very warm vibe though because they definitely seemed to have regulars that were chatting with staff like they were family. There isn't a vegetarian burger on the menu but upon request they found one and made it for me. The kids pancake is enormous! You won't leave hungry that's for sure ! read more

The service was great too- not overwhelming and refilled our coffees at just the right time. My grandchildren visited from CA and had stayed overnight, waking with ravenous appetites so we decided to try The Family Restaurant as we'd heard it was pretty good. Not disappointed at all. Had a bit of a wait but there were five of us and the meals were delivered all together. Everything was flavorful, hot, and in generous portions - so much so, that most of us couldn't finish all on our plates. I ordered the vegetarian omelet with hash browns - the omelet was fluffy and full of vegetables, mushrooms, and cheese. Really delicious. Didn't feel like I was 'making do' with a the choice of one meal as in most restaurants because it was just so scrumptious. Although the menu is what satisfies the stomach and the palate, respect and dignity also are integral part of the customer's overall experience and satisfaction. Today, my asian family was refused service by a caucasian waitress for the reason that they dont accept parties of more than 8. There were 10 of them(2 families) and they said they could take 2 tables. In addition, this same restaurant accepted a party of 9 a month back. I know, because they also posted on yelp. The waitress still said she couldnt take them. My family somehow sensed it when they stepped in and the waitress gave them a strange kind of look. They wanted to talk to the manager but decided to just go somewhere else instead and not ruin their day (btw, they were on a spring break trip). They were pleasantly accepted at Tollgate Inn Restaurant and Lounge. They felt that their being asian played a big factor for the refusal to be taken in at this Sandy FAMILY Restaurant. read more

We're a large group, understandably, but the restaurant was far from full and we should not have caused a kitchen delay by ourselves. I've been to Sandy family a few times. For lunch one time I ordered a special berry and pork salad which had barely any meat, I had to ask for more, the salad flavor was good but not fantastic. I've had the country skillet which was good but drowning in cheese and they forgot the gravy it was super greasy and if i order it again I'd ask for cheese on the side. I recently got the blue cheese bacon burger with tots. The tots were good but the burger was terrible. I am a huge burger fan, it's my favorite food and I didn't even eat a whole half. The only flavor was the blue cheese which was too strong and overwhelming. The burger was very bland and the bacon was burnt. The bun wasn't very good and the tomatoes were green. Living in Sandy there aren't many options but I think after that terrible burger I won't ever come to this place again. There are better options in town for all meals read more

I had the Blueberry Pancakes......um... yum!! I could only eat half of one, but holy moly!!! They were light, flavorful and really great!! Service was awesome as well. My boyfriend had pancakes, eggs and bacon. He couldn't eat all of his either, but really liked the pancakes & said the bacon (seriously each strip of bacon was the size of two strips of bacon combined), was the best bacon he's had. Went here for breakfast on our recent trip to the mountain. The staff was nice and the food came out fast. The bacon was perfectly crispy and the potatos had that great crispness to them as well. The English muffin... Wow I don't know if they are homemade but it was so delicious. read more

I am being generous giving two stars. The service was horrible. Our first sign should have been when the waitress told us she couldn't take our order for five minutes because the cook had to catch up. The waitress also told us it would be a 25 minute wait after taking the order. We were okay with that. We ordered our food and listened to all the employees complaining about their work hours. One of the cooks even said it was going to be 9am before they got to go home. Another waitress was talking about her hours. Then another waitress said customers where pissed and wanted to know if their food was even started. 1 hour 10 minutes later we got our food. The steak was good, and my husbands food was good. The texas toast tasted like the frozen stuff you get at the store. The fries, I'm pretty sure was frozen too. The food was expensive for the quality and the service. They seem to have good ratings, however, from my experience they weren't great. perhaps they had an off night read more

The ambience of this place is perfectly cozy, warm, and welcoming. The indoor temperature unfortunately doesn't quite line up with the visual atmosphere--they wouldn't lose anything by turning the thermostat up a few notches. The wait staff was friendly, though the kitchen service was sluggish. We waited 20ish minutes to receive our food. I would've liked to have been given water in addition to our drinks as an unrequested compliment. I guess this place thinks water is a beverage that must be ordered. The food was fairly average. I thought the eggs benedict was tasty, although the accompanying country potatoes lacked any seasoning whatsoever, not even basic salt and pepper. This place is certainly a better alternative to Denny's. If you eat here, at least you'll have generally yummy food and feel satisfied knowing you supported a local business. read more
