Food quality / price (value) rating 8.5. The atmosphere is antique diner. Located in the historic Sandy Hook village in Newtown, CT, a charming and beautiful, and walkable, 1800's village undergoing a renaissance that includes many upgrades. New brick sidewalks and reproduction lamp posts add a lot of charm to the area. There are 6 or 7 good restaurants within a 100 yard radius of the center. We went for breakfast, where I had the pancakes with bacon. The pancakes and bacon were very good, but the bacon wasn't served until I was already finished with the pancakes. The wife had a broccoli, mushrooms & cheddar omelette that was very good. The coffee was good quality. The men's restroom was in need of remodeling. There is also an old style 10 seat counter that was very nostalgic.

The guy who took my order was thrill and kinda judging me for wanting three pancakes of the cookies and cream one. But then again he told me it would be better for 2 not 3 because it is heavy and damn was he right, those pancakes got me through a hard hike but still after that hit harder than any anisong in a JJK anime. Ambiance has improved and it is as good as it always has been still really love this diner The woods next to the diner

Very unassuming from the outside. Dining room and counter seating. No clue what the dining room looks like, we sat at the counter. Great and friendly service. Inexpensive and good food. Don't need much more for a quick breakfast spot.

    Avocado toast

The staff and service here is amazing. Both of us have dietary restrictions and they accommodate us every week! The food is very good, a lot of locals constantly come here, and it's in a convenient location. Highly recommended!

Solid diner for all your breakfast needs. Packed with Sandy Hook locals enjoying breakfast on a Sunday morning. Good value for the food.

Salmon benedict, black raspberry milkshake, chilaquiles

Easily one of the best breakfast spots in Newtown! The diner is in an old train car which gives it a very homey and intimate vibe. We got the salmon benedict special, chilaquiles, and a black raspberry milkshake for a late breakfast and everything was delicious! Great service and kind staff. Can't wait to go back :)

A LIttle tiny place that has been there forever. Staff was friendly. They have homemade corned beef hash! Had normal breakfast foods plus specials. I had the french toast with apple cider sauce it was super good! Great prices. Cute local place.

Great breakfast! Mexi omelet, side of grits and poached eggs, bacon & wheat toast.

The staff is very attentive and kind. The menu is varied to the point of having difficulty choosing. We chose Hungarian stuffed cabbage and trio salad. HUGE portions are their signature. My meal came with a cup of soup & I chose matzo ball. Also, I chose baked potato and chickpea salad and a side tossed salad. I do not eat processed sugar and they had oil and vinegar to dress the tossed salad. We had 2 large pieces of challah bread with it and hubby had half of a lemon danish for his dessert, saving the rest for tonight. The bakery section is very impressive and I would have had a very hard time back in my sugar addicted days. This place is already on my calendar for next year's return. I had a neat conversation with our waitress about Amorgos and Santorini Greece. This family does a great job of serving the community!

The London broil wrap was cooked well, but I eventually had to eat it with a fork and knife because it was so oily. Overall, a good selection of your typical diner offerings of wraps, sandwiches, burgers, and salads that make them a reliable staple most anywhere. I would definitely return if I was in the area.

Unassuming from the outside, this local treasure opens into a cozy restaurant and event space with exceptional food and drink. Between the crackling fireplace, plush lounge seating, warm wood accents, sleek bar, and navy banquettes, the atmosphere feels both inviting and refined. The bartenders and entire staff were warm, polished, and genuinely attentive, creating an experience centered around the guest. My martini was aggressively shaken and served in a short coupe, topped with a delicate layer of ice crystals; despite the chill, the vodka-to-vermouth ratio was perfectly balanced. It was garnished with stellar Castelvetrano olives, freshly opened and proudly presented as an elevated touch to the classic cocktail. As for the fare, it was hands down one of the best meals I've enjoyed in quite some time. The Wagyu coulotte was cooked to perfection, accompanied by expertly prepared oyster mushrooms and crisp shoestring tallow fries. I could go on and on about the experience, but I'll simply say I can't wait to return. The thoughtful details and genuine hospitality made for an outstanding night out. My friend and I both had burgers, which were delicious -- but what were REALLY awesome were the french fries. Slim, perfectly cooked and salted -- hoo mama. Other reviewers have mentioned that the menu has more of an Asian influence -- this continues to be true, and in fact, when we return I'd like to try some of those more specifically Asian or Asian-inspired dishes. One thing I perceived, though, was that the pickles on the burger were brined in something that tasted almost seafood-y -- I'm allergic so I don't think it was actual fish sauce or something, but something that gave it a slight fishy taste, like when you have seaweed. Anyway, that was the only thing I didn't care for -- but it didn't bother me enough to not want to try again! We loved the ambience and the location was also super convenient with free parking in the back. I'll update my review after my next visit!

3.5 stars We were on…read moreour way home from a road trip and were looking for a great lunch spot on our route, when we came across Foundry Kitchen and Tavern, which was located in the quaint town of Sandy Hook. As we drove through the village, we saw the restaurant on our left-hand side. It was housed in a historical brick building with a sprawling deck overlooking the Pootatuk River. It was a beautifully sunny day, so I immediately suggested that we dine outside. Unfortunately for us, the part of the balcony that was covered and offering live acoustic music was completely full. That meant that we were seated on the far edge of the patio with no shield from the strong sun or any ability to hear the tunes. In addition to the unideal seating, the food took a very long time to arrive, so I just sat there roasting. The server offered to move us inside, but we stuck it out for the view. I had ordered the Fattoush Salad with Chicken. The Mediterranean bowl included mixed greens, tomatoes, cucumbers, feta, kalamata olives, and fried naan croutons, though I had omitted the red onion that was also supposed to be in the blend. I had asked for the red wine vinaigrette on the side and wound up not using much of it. The salad was fresh and tasty, but the chicken had an odd preparation. It was not grilled (like I would have hoped for a healthy salad topper) and not deep-fried, but was roasted or pan-fried or something, which I had not expected. It had a crispy skin, but remained reasonably tender at least. I also grabbed a few of my partner's fries, which were excellent. After we wrapped up the meal, I stopped inside to cool off and use the facilities, which consisted of a singular, unisex bathroom in the corner of the rustic dining room. There was a bit of a line, and they could certainly have benefitted from additional restrooms. I really did like the antique atmosphere at Foundry Kitchen and Tavern, but I think that the heat just made the experience a bit challenging for me. I would definitely consider returning, but would be more diligent in my seating and food selections.

Today I ordered steak frites which is usually my Go To. Normally seared and seasoned beautifully with a medium center. Today was not seasoned at all, no sear to speak of and well done.
