    Summer Peach Salad

Food was fantastic. The margarita pizza is phenomenal and the peach salad was delicious. Great cafe!! Great ambience as well. The owner/chef Ralph makes you feel like your family.

The food was sensational. We ordered the Moroccan Hash and the Avocado Toast. Everything was absolutely delicious. The venue itself is a small cafe with an outdoor patio. I can't recommend this cafe highly enough.

Pride of ownership abounds. Very creative menu. Be patient for the quality of the lovingly cooked-to-order dishes. I promise it is worth the wait. Lots of unique specials created with fresh ingredients the chef hand picks clearly prepared with love. Small inside during cold seasons but large outside area overlooking river when weather warms up. Falafel wraps were a fav. Thai pasta salad was also enjoyed. The delicious peach or the pear salad can also be served over cauliflower pizza crust. The chicken pot pie was wonderful comfort food on a cold day. Pierogies and kielbasa made for their restaurant were also enjoyed at our table. And the value for the quality and quantity was excellent--most of the special dishes were around $20. Bonus for Foxon Park sodas!!! I believe they allow byob too. Only critique is to perhaps limit and better manage reservations. Owner felt bad we had a long wait despite our reservation (1hour). Plan ahead when expecting a reservation and let other tables being seated know if you are expecting a large party reservation before you seat them so they know or just don't take large party reservations during busy hours. Like I said. Good company. Nice people. Worth the wait. :-) Enjoy!!!

Moroccan Hash was out of this world. Even the potatoes and seared tomatoes were incredible compliments to the dish.

Another great breakfast at the Sandy Hook Cafe. If you haven't been here you need to. Great atmosphere and the food is truly a winner every time we come. Greatness takes time so make sure you have time for a leisurely meal. It's worth it trust me.

Cinnamon apple mascarpone stuffed French toast

Amazing owners who are very attentive and charming atmosphere. The food was five stars! My husband and I went and I had cinnamon apple with raisin and mascarpone stuffed French toast and hubby had the blackened egg special. Can't say enough we will be back!!!

How have I not been here yet!?? Easily one of the best meals I have had in Newtown. I have heard so many times how delicious the food is and how beautiful the atmosphere is. I sat outside and enjoyed some schnitzel and a go on park. The owner Ralph was SO nice and accommodating. With so many different choices on their menu I wasn't sure what to pick so I went with Schnitzel with potatoes, gravy, onions, red cabbage and beet salad. I can't even tell you how amazingly delicious this was. I quite literally licked my plate clean. I will be a regular from here on out. If you have not been, get in your car and get over there

    Falafel wrap with Greek salad

We just had the most amazing meal at the cozy Sandy Hook Cafe. My daughter had their Falafel wrap with a beautiful Greek salad, my husband chose a Morracan hash and I had the Chicken pot pie. Each dish was fresh, delicious and generous proportions. We noted that their salad looked incredible as well, in fact all the food we saw was tempting. The service was friendly, helpful, quick and very welcoming. We are just driving through town but would go out of our way to return here. Thank you!!!

So, going to keep this short as I will let the pictures show the perfection of Newtown's best hidden gem. Ralph and John got it going on...been there weekly since the first time and always leave beyond satisfied. Have taken a few guests here and everyone is eager to get back. Need I say anymore???

The most delicious, fresh salad I ever had! Huge portion size! The service here is so wonderful. You can tell they really care about how you are enjoying everything. There was nice outdoor seating overlooking the river too

Iced Coffee one pump hazelnut and half & half
    Samantha V.

I have to start with the super friendly inclusive who I believe to be the owners Ralph and John. Greeted me right when I came in. Ralph told me the specials and showed me one of them. Top all that off he actually asked my first name! As they would say in Cheers for me I love when everyone knows my name! I had an iced coffee to start with half & half and one pump hazelnut (Im diabetic). This coffee tasted so fresh and good. Next my meal and also one of the specials Ralph told me about. A three cheese grilled cheese (Im not sharing which cheeses go check them out to see). This grilled cheese had just the right amount of butter. When you get a grilled cheese in a Diner or restaurant there is so much butter it feels like your arteries may clog. This one had just enough butter that you feel like family made it. The one part of the meal I was worried about was the tomato soup. I am not the biggest fan of tomatoes or tomato soup. However, I finished the entire cup of soup. I actually burnt my tongue rushing to try it. The soup was so creamy and delicious and I finished the entire cup. No soup left behind here. Sandy Hook Cafe also has veggie options such as portobello "burger" and beet salad (however, these two options might be specials). Go visit Ralph and John at Sandy Hook Cafe. It has great scenery with the deck and the stream is right there.

    Portuguese clams
    Claudia J.

The food is amazing for a small restaurant. The owner told us about ALL the specials. We shared the schnitzel & Portuguese clams. So much delicious food. Our meals started with a salad & ended with cannoli. We were told the cauliflower pizza was amazing from another table so we ordered it to go. This is a definite place to hop off 84 for a delicious meal. We may drive the 50 minutes from home to eat there again. Highly recommend this.

    Breakfast sandwich and potatoes
    Allison L.

Great addition to Sandy Hook village. Food is made with care and filling. I've had the egg sandwich and stuffed French toast. Both tasty, you just need to decide if you want savory or sweet breakfast. And love the fresh and tasty potatoes. Highly recommend you stop by this lovely little spot, with a pretty view of the babbling streaming river.

A stone fireplace anchors the space while low, ambient lighting, wood tables, and leather seating create an intimate, inviting atmosphere. I was excited to learn that the bar featured Misguided Spirits' Howe & Hummel vodka from New York City. Stirred, it produced a martini with a subtle sweetness and a hint of cracked pepper, served in a classic cocktail glass with an angular bowl and slender stem. The design felt timeless, keeping the drink chilled while offering a crisp, polished presentation, with the Castelvetrano olives taking center stage. When it comes to the food, I have no notes. The wings were perfectly seasoned, with meat that fell off the bone; the Bibb salad was fresh and dressed beautifully with house lemon oil; and the thin, crispy pizza lived up to its name, with bright sauce and fresh toppings. This is a spot you won't want to leave and one you'll be eager to return to, familiar, fun, and full of character.

He wholeheartedly recommended Bora Restaurant. I followed his advice and was not disappointed! Do not judge the book by its cover. It looks plain and unassuming on the outside and took me a few seconds to spot it. (No pic, as I was distracted by my new car!) The inside was nicely appointed. Perhaps too many fake flowers, but maybe not. They seemed to work and add color. I went at 4 pm on a Saturday, so between lunch and dinner. There were people, but no crowds or noise. All I wanted was a good burger. And I got it! I ordered the House Burger: (6 oz?) Marbled Wagyu Beef, Cheddar Cheese, Lettuce, Tomato, Bacon, Red Onion, Toasted Brioche, and Special Burger Sauce on the side. (Truthfully, I included all that for your benefit. I only wanted the burger, bacon, and bun with ketchup on the side.) It was delicious! I did manage to snap a pic before I descended upon it like a ravenous Serengeti carnivore... with a modicum of decorum so as not to scare the other guests. The service was fast and friendly and the prices reasonable. This is the sort of place I would like to return to in order to try some of their finer dishes!

The one sad thing was for the dishes that included red sauce (looking at you, pizza mac), it was spaghetti. There was no cheese sauce mixed in, and I hate spaghetti in general. The ones with cheese sauce were fun and delicious. Not many people ate in, but there was a brisk take xout business.

But what they lack in flash, they make up for in delicious mac & cheese! Their menu has so many options it's almost overwhelming! In fact, I counted 25 different varieties of mac & cheese that they offer. Everything from traditional mac & cheese with bread crumbs, to mac ala vodka, to mac pizza, mac gumbo, mac sloppy joe, mac philly steak and cheese, and more! The female employee behind the counter was friendly, and listed off some of their more popular varieties to give me ideas. I went with the MacDaddy, their most popular dish, which has all the ingredients of a Big Mac (even down to the sesame seeds) served over mac & cheese. It was amazing!!! I also got the Mac Ranch, which had fried chicken, bacon, and ranch dressing. Also excellent! They have three sizes of skillets that you can order, the "snack" (small), "mac" (medium), and "macdaddy" (large). I got the snack size for both, and even just one was more than enough to fill me up! Overall, an excellent mac & cheese spot that you can go back to multiple times and not get the same thing twice. I would definitely recommend!
