Visiting family we stopped her on a road trip from California about a year ago and really liked the place. SO GLAD WE CAME BACK! Its not changed (even had the same sweet waitress)..well it's even better! It's kinda like a "cheers" of breakfast place for us! They know their customers, call them by name...and your included! Excellent breakfast! I had a cheese omelet and the hubby the kitchen sink. We couldn't finish, so took it home. This is a popular place. Did get seats, but it took a while to get a menu. Then, more waiting for ordering. But people were friendly, a tv was on, and great company so no big deal. Be prepared to spend time there. Food was excellent, reasonable prices, will definitely try lunch next time. Recommend to everyone!! read more

Leaving this review kind of makes me sad as the people were very friendly and it's clearly a place with a lot of "regulars" but the food was very disappointing. Visiting out of state so I got on yelp and selected this diner based on the high ratings. I got the tuna melt with potato salad that they said was home made. I really think the tuna melt was just some cold tuna and a piece of cheese on two pieces of toast as the tuna was quite cold and the cheese not remotely melted. The potato salad was essentially tasteless... I couldn't tell that there was any onion or relish......just some bland creme colored sauce. I left most of it. read more

I found this place on the way to NY.. I was a little thrown because it is almost at the back of the little shopping center. I am soo glad I went in anyway. Sonny's is the epitome of Old School feeding and serving. No fluff just good old fashioned service and delicious food with decent prices. The two servers were well under 20 but were clearly trained well and certainly understood the assignment. Sonny came out and introduced himself, which made the visit even better. Hidden treasure... We stopped at this little cute breakfast/lunch spot on a road trip from MA to PA. We met Sonny himself, who was both extremely friendly and a great cook. The service was very attentive, with water glasses quickly refilled and updates on when our food would be ready. Our party of five enjoyed delicious meals, including the Italian omelet special, the triple berry croissant French Toast, turkey club with plenty of bacon, and an omelet that was made upon request - hash and Swiss cheese. Would love to stop in on our next trip on 84 for a tasty, big, AND affordable meal! Keep up the good work, Sonny! read more

This has been my favorite breakfast place for YEARS. The food is always amazing, and the prices are extremely reasonable. The staff are friendly, and the cook is the owner! He likes to say hi to folks, and banters with regulars. I've been around the US and out of the country, and honestly this is my favorite place to eat breakfast. They offer gluten free bread for toast and sandwiches as well, and have NEVER given me the wrong one. The coffee is great, and they even have fun brews like mocha or hazelnut, and they're very attentive to making sure your coffee cup never runs out! Sometimes I have to swap to decaf halfway through, but my partner loves it. It's small and tucked into the back of a shopping center, but oh my gosh if you're ever in the area and want amazing eggs or huuuuge fluffy pancakes (not gluten free but I remember them fondly!) or super yummy french toast (yes, you can use the gluten free bread for this!) you should absolutely stop in. They do breakfast and lunch, but the breakfast food is SO good I haven't managed to try the lunch options yet. It's too hard to pass up the perfect breakfast! If you have a group, it's a good idea to call ahead to reserve a table, especially on weekends as they can get pretty busy (and for good reason!). I used to grab breakfast-for-lunch to go while I was working nearby, and they always made sure I had strawberry jelly for my toast after the first few times I asked for it. I've never been a 'regular' somewhere before, it's fun to try new things, but I love this place. Re gluten free - I have an allergy, not celiac. I am not sure if there is a risk of cross-contamination because I am not as sensitive as some folks might be, but I have never gotten sick here. read more

Basically a no frills, Southern greasy diner. The place is very homey and seems like it has it's fair share of regulars, but the was place was just OK. I found this place on Yelp and I figured the breakfast should be awesome since they only serve breakfast and lunch, they close at 2pm. The food: #8 Two eggs sunnyside up, corned beef hash with a biscuit and a side order of bacon. The eggs were made well, the corned beef hash was OK, but it was salty for me. I love crispy bacon, but the one here is borderline burnt, it did have a nice crunch but the edges were black. The biscuit was just so so, a premade biscuit, cut in half then reheated on the flatop. Sonny makes the best diner food in Connecticut, and he and his family serve it with the best conversation. They treat customers like family, and Sonny always provides a good laugh. He is serious about food, which makes his perfectly scrambled eggs as good as they are. If you go once, you've got to get the pancakes (which are as big as your head). If you like your bacon crispy, don't be afraid to ask, and he'll cook it exactly to your liking. I could not recommend this place too highly. Been going for years. It is amazing! read more

I've been to Sonny's 3 times and though the chocolate chip pancakes are huge and delicious, I'm giving them a 2 star because the service is horrendous. No one acknowledges the customers who walk in to get a table (happened last Sunday with me) we waited standing by the door about 10 minutes and mind you there was a worker on the register, not once did he look up to check who was coming in. And literally standing under his nose. He was rather slow in ringing up as well. Once we were noticed we were given a table, no menus were handed out and the waitress came around after 7 min waiting. No one came around for refills on our drinks and and trying to flag wait staff members was a task. They all were all over the place. Decent prices, ok food, horrible service. Will not be going back there again. read more

Best diner I've been too in a very long time. Sonny, the order was super friendly and talked shop with everyone inside. I got the bacon burger deluxe and the crinkly cut fries were perfectly crisp and golden brown. The burger was delicious and tasted like it was made from ground beef. I had a side of the spicy sausage links, which were Italian sausages with a little bit of heat. Soooooo gooood! Next time I am in the area, I will definitely be stopping here. read more

Waitress was eating French fries at the counter while she was taking my order. The staff complained the entire time about the the work and customers.... They were more interested in reading the Sunday sales paper. You could tell they were completely understaffed. The cook was shouting orders out from the curtain was rude. Waitress kept complaining to customers which was highly unprofessional. Not for sure how long this place has been in business, but hoping they can make necessary adjustments in order to start providing great customer service. I'll let you know how the food is. Ok, so the food is just ok.... I had the #3 (pancakes, eggs and choice of meat) plus a cup of coffee.... $11. My cup was empty three times before being refilled. Overall, I would recommend you not visit this restaurant. Drive the 25 miles and go to the Cracker Barrel. It is so much better. read more

I'm surprised no one has Yelped about Sonny's yet. Great place for breakfast, he keeps very busy. Favorite dishes include: Sonny Special (eggs, bacon, home fries, cheese, onions, etc. all mixed together on a huge plate), spinach, mushroom and cheese omelet and croissant french toast. The patty melt (bacon, onion, and cheese burger) on rye is excellent. Very good prices. Service can be a little slow, but not too bad really. Friendly people and Sonny truly cares about his product (he comes out often to make sure everyone is enjoying their meals). Ah yes, and Sonny makes pretty decent biscuits, which are rare in these parts. Try them with your egg dish, or with biscuits and sausage gravy. read more

Definitely a step back in time but totally worth a visit. The owner Sonny cooks everything himself and makes sure to come out and talk to the patrons. The portions are HUGE and the food is delicious. We didn't believe the waitress that we had ordered too much and it was a feast. I got s veggie omelet and my mom got 2 eggs over easy. The omelet came with crunchy potatoes (love) and toast. We got pancakes on the side that were literally tires. Great little place, would definitely recommend. read more

For dessert we had a cheesecake with a house made pistachio creme which was amazing. We had a chance to talk to Tim who I believe owns the place and we asked him about a sign we saw on the westside at Innovation Studios for a Rebellion Gastropub. He says he hopes to have that open early in the new year so we can't wait to try that out as well, especially since it's only a five minute drive. But it's worth a 20 minute drive or more to visit Rebellion and we'll definitely be back.

After reading so many raves about this place, we finally tried it a few weekends ago. Wow. Either all the reviewers are friends of the owners/staff (seems like one of those joints with a lot of "regulars"), or they have no clue about decent food, service, or surroundings. The place is a dump, the servers were disinterested, and the food was disgusting. Seriously. I don't understand the raves at all. We were -- as not a part of that "regulars" crowd -- treated as if our presence was nothing more than an imposition. We did NOT feel at all welcome. Even the cook came out from the kitchen to give us a disapproving glare. The food tasted not-at-all fresh, even somewhat chemical-ish, and we couldn't get out of there fast enough. But it took forever to get our server's attention... she was too busy gabbing with another customer about the new cars each had recently purchased. Do not come here. ! Absolutely disgusting. First clue - the floor is so nasty that it feels like you are walking on ice. Next , if you have swat flys while you are reading a menu- take this as a clue. When you have some crack head looking filthy apron wearing dude come out asking if everything is ok - clue #3. When you then hear the crack head yelling in the kitchen and sounding like Gordan Ramsey - "I cant work this way and the tickets are working and this waitress is bla bla bla and that waitress is bla bla bla " and this goes on for 20 minutes take this as a clue. I felt so bad for the help. They should all just walk out and now for the food. ... Slop on a plate. I ordered a corn beef sandwich. I got corn beef on rye and that was it !
