Now that COVID restrictions are starting to lessen in the area I decided to get my nails done while I was waiting for my car to be serviced. I walked about to a few nail salons down town Bethesda and most of them were closed or appointment only. I needed I gel color change. I walked to Tips and Toes. I made an appointment for 9:30 a.m. today (March 6, 2024). I received a text at 8:31 a.m. confirming my appointment, but also received a text message from an unknown number asking if I had an appointment at 9:30 a.m. I responded yes and was asked if I could come at 10:30 a.m. To clarify, I asked if there was an appointment available at 9:30 and was asked again if I could come at 10:30 with no explanation as to why. I agreed and arrived at the salon at 10:20ish a.m. The salon was closed - despite their website, maps, appointment scheduling software, and business cards all saying the salon opens at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesdays. Once inside the salon around 10;30 a.m., the woman who opened did not turn on the lights, any music or heat, or offer us any kind of water or anything like I am used to when getting my nails done at any other salon. We picked our colors and sat down. My fill was going relatively smoothly until a regular - referred to as "Donna" and carrying a Louis Vuitton purse - arrived. Once she was there, she was set up with a pedicure station immediately in the middle of my manicure. After that, the finishing of my nails was rushed and haphazard. Despite really liking the color I picked, I am incredibly disappointed in how my nails look - my have several bumps in my nails, the paint was glopped on and took over half an hour to dry, and after I was abandoned by my "nail tech" at the drying table for her beloved wealthy regular, she didn't even check on me once. I left the salon with acrylic dust all over my hands and no cuticle oil or lotion applied to my nails. There is a clear lack of professionalism or proper etiquette training for this staff and I'm doubtful that all of them have even been certified to do nails. I don't get my nails done often but wanted to get them done for Valentine's Day/my boyfriend's birthday coming up. I came in with a few pictures for inspiration and I was taken on time and loved my mani/pedi experience. I was so indecisive and just wasn't loving my nail design after I left, but had to leave for a meeting. I called back later that evening and asked if I could come back in the next day to get my nail color changed, they were so kind and accommodating. The shop is clean, has nice products and owner and employees are lovely. They were very accomodating and did exactly what I wanted with a dip manicure. Sadly, the dip is chipping off after 3 days. I got a red powder dip manicure with Henry on Sunday 12-3-23 and it was beautiful. He told me it would last and if it cracked to come back. I called on Thursday 12-14-23, 11 days later bc I hit a cabinet and 3 of the nails broke with half the polish coming off each one. I got an appt that night again at 6:30 about 2 hours after I called with was incredible and Henry wasn't there. I explained to another lovely person who removed the dip and said it usually only lasts 2 weeks. I have been getting dip for about 4 years and every one I have ever had has lasted closer to 4 weeks for me. I got a beautiful silver glitter the next time and I loved it! I got it on Thursday 12-14-23 and by this am, 3 days later, 2 nails are starting to have tiny chips in the top. I have not cooked or cleaned anything or washed my hands excessively at all. It feels rough like the top coat wasn't brushed all the way to the edges of the nails. It cost $55 two times in less than 2 weeks and it is coming off again. I am so sad, bc I don't have any more money to spend on this and my holiday nails won't last for all the events I need. Please help! read more

Unfortunately, I had the WORST experience at this salon today. I specifically let my nail tech Tammy know that I am going to a wedding this weekend and wanted my nails to look great. Please note that I was THE ONLY CUSTOMER when I arrived and the tech was in a complete rush to do my nails. I had tips put on and they were CROOKED. I asked for dip powder and it was completely inconsistent. Likewise, I also had a pedicure as well. Again, my Nail tech was RUSHING and ended up cutting most of my cuticles, causing them to bleed. My Polish ended up streaky and is very low quality. All in all, my nails looked HORRIBLE and I would NEVER suggest this salon to anyone. Save your money and go somewhere that cares. I use to frequent this place before the pandemic since I reside fairly close. Recently tried this new place in DC that I love but this week they was too busy to do both my feet and nails, and since the manager of Tip and Toes stopped me on the street last week and ask me to come in I thought I would give them a try. I went on a Wednesday afternoon and I found the place to be overly crowded and combined that with a screaming kid (from an employee) it not the best place to relax but I received a pedicure that was just ok and headed out. One day later the polish had badly chipped so I went in today to a get a polish change from the pedicure I had 2 days ago. Mind my surprise when they charged me $15 to change the polish and when I questioned why??? they group together and talked so that I couldn't understand. came back with $10 I paid the $10 and told them never to stop me again to come back in. I think it's ridiculous to do a crappy job and then make someone pay again for them to fix it. I will continue to drive 30 mins to go the DC nail salon where they don't have these type of issues. read more

I went in for an acrylic manicure, and I had an appointment in advance. Upon arrival, i selected a color and sat down. The man who did my nails asked what shape I wanted and then proceeded to pull out a tray of clear plastic fake nails. No preparation whatsoever took place--no cuticle shaping or anything, save for having me put my nails in a bowl of water. He clipped them jaggedly, then took an electric rotating file and filed my nails down to the point where I could feel the acetone he then applied burning on my nail bed. No professional who cares even the slightest bit about their client's nail health would do this to normal, healthy nails. He should have manually and gently filed them down just enough to give a rougher surface for the glue and acrylic (if he had actually used acrylic, that is) to stick to. He then applied glue--LOTS of glue--and pressed on fake plastic nails. Glue was caked under my nail beds 1/4 inch thick when he was done. No acrylic at all was actually used in the entire process. He applied the plastic nails at angles, unevenly, and when I pointed this out to him, he actually filed them to be even more uneven because he misunderstood what I was trying to tell him, rather than evaluate his work first to see where it actually needed fixing. I should not even have had to point out a very noticeable error like this to him. Then, he tried to shape the plastic nails, and this is when it got even worse. He clipped them jaggedly and unevenly, leaving some noticeably longer than others. Then he applied the gel, and it only got worse. He put on uneven coats that were about 1/8" above the bottom of my nails, looking as though they had grown out for a week already. You could see the layers where the coats of gel overlapped. He was very rushed the whole time, trying to get me in and out as quickly as possible. I stopped commenting on mistakes halfway through because I realized that he didn't have the skill or training to understand the mistakes he was making nor would any effort to have him correct them be fruitful, because he was in such a rush to simply get me out of the chair and move on to the next customer. Afterwards, my nails were throbbing, each time I bumped one of the plastic nails against something it pulled on my nail bed, causing quite a bit of pain. My sibling with whom I went also got their nails done by him. Their nails were just a standard polish, but there were wrinkles, rough spots, and no work at all done to shape the cuticles. Throughout their manicure, the woman next to him was correcting him and coaching him on the basics of how to paint a nail with polish. This wasn't just a bad experience; this man almost definitely had no training or license and should not have been allowed close to a client's nails. I suspect he was working on nails because the salon had overbooked itself (he also was the person operating the register), but rather than prioritize customer experience, quantity of customers--getting them in and out as quickly as possible--was prioritized. The manicure was over $100. I have attached photos. read more

I had such a fantastic experience that I am compelled to write a review and recommend the salon wholeheartedly. I had never even heard of them but my usual Salon decided to pretend that I had not made an appointment which I had and they closed early. So it was a Friday night and I was frantic to get my nails filled so I kept calling around and no one was available until I reach this salon tip to Toes Nail Salon in Bethesda. The gal told me that Henry had just left for the evening but he put me on hold and yells his name and he actually came back and said absolutely he would take the appointment. So it took me about 15 minutes to get there and when I did I noticed that parking was an issue but he literally came outside and pointed me to the Capital One bank across the street because they have free parking after 4 and there's also a parking lot on the other side of the street that's open all the time for free parking. So I sat down with him that explains that I don't like anything fancy just pink and white short nails with oval shape. Now I've gone to several salons asking for this and I've gone out with claws the size of talons or square nails that look like bricks on my fingers and no one could ever seem to get it right. But Henry gave me by far the best most perfect set of nails that I have ever had and for a more than reasonable price. And this was all while he was supposed to be already at home he came back because he is just a fantastic human being. So I just want to let everyone know that they're actually does exist good quality human beings that do a great job and don't charge an arm and a leg.
