Sunday 2/18/2024 I first tried these donuts back in the summer of 2021 but I don't remember it at all so that don't count. We got a dozen assorted donuts for $16.49 and I was able to try the ms sandy, porky pony, French toast, cookies n cream, and the yabba dabba doo-nut (fruity pebbles). The donuts are hot cake donuts with a smaller size than an average donut but they are were pretty good. Cracks me up that when you Yelp "Sandy Point Donuts" the most popular items to order are drinks--this is not accurate! It is obviously the cake DONUTS. They do have great coffee and teas but their donuts are top-notch! They also have smoothies and acai bowls. This is a small shop on Solomon's Island Road in Annapolis. They have a variety of choices for you as far as toppings are concerned. Each flavor has a name associated with it (Porky Pony=glaze, cinnamon sugar and bacon). As a person who is not a big fan of cake donuts this place 100% changed my mind on how good they could be. I am giving 4 stars because it's privately owned. Would give 3 stars based on flavor. The best flavor we tasted was the Porky one with bacon. That was fantastic. And I appreciate how it's all hot and fresh made. However, the glazes on all the rest of the donuts had hardly any flavor. The only time a donut tasted different than the others was when they had a topping on top. And all we could taste was the topping, but never the glaze. Lemon didn't taste like lemon. I love the chocolate icing with rainbow sprinkles as well as the chocolate icing and chocolate chips. They make them when you order so try to eat them when they are warm, they will melt in your mouth . It's easy to eat at least 4 donuts at a time because they are so light but I advise against that. I paid by phone, and because their reader is nowhere near that takeout window, I handed over my unlocked phone and watched it done, which is not generally a good way of doing business but was fine in this case. The partly melted chocolate chips were a bit of a mess, but they evinced how freshly cooked it was. This place offers bubble tea as well, and the taro-based one I got delivered a smooth, mild flavor. Their flavors and the name of the shop are horse-y, which turns out to be because this business originated in Chincoteague, before establishing here on the outskirts of Annapolis (they've subsequently expanded to several locations, including back to Chincoteague). They have smoothie bowls which are vegan, otherwise the food is fairly conventional from a special diet perspective. I found it a satisfying treat. Oh man, this place is going to get so much of our money.... Our plan was to eat one and then get home to eat the rest, but that was foiled as soon as we got to the car and tried it. Aw Shucks was a simple glazed donut with sprinkles and I definitely preferred that over the Charlie Brown. The Charlie Brown had a peanut butter glaze and tiny chocolate chips. I usually really enjoy chocolate and PB combos but the Charlie Brown was a little too sweet and heavy for me. There was not any beautiful display of donuts at Sandy Pony since they are made (really glazed and coated) to order. Not having a visual made it harder to order. Also, you don't get to see the magic of the donuts being made so that is disappointing. The donuts are smaller than I expected but I still decided to eat half of each and take the rest home. I don't think I even made it two red stoplights before I had my hand back in the box! Not being a donut person, that is saying a lot. The Sandy Pony name is very cute and I like that the story of the original donut food truck is on the wall. It is also nice that they have a few tables to enjoy donuts at the shop.
