The staff was amazing! This is not about the staff. The staff were great accommodating kind... but the owners of the facility are being false with their advertisement.. there is no restaurant although there is a picture of one they order from the restaurant across the street. I have pictures and will give examples. 1-the showerhead, the water comes out and drops. There is no water pressure at all. It just trickles out of the showerhead.. my cousin was a large person and could barely fit in the shower. 2-the freezer was disgusting in the little tiny refrigerator. It was filled with what look like red juice frozen at the bottom of an un defrosted freezer.. 3-the closet is not a closet. It didn't even have a door. The only outlet you could use was in this " closet" with one hanger, there was also no hair dryer no coffee nothing we're talking serious bare minimum. 4-The paint was peeling 5-the bed was sitting on top of a wooden box frame handmade where big metal pieces came out and almost took my toe off! 6-they have pictures of lounge chairs everywhere on the beach. Let's be clear they did not exist nor did beach towels so not only do you not know that you have to bring your own beach towels to a beach Motel you have to bring your own chairs to sit on the beach.. if it wasn't for the staff, it would've got a worse review.. this place is down and dirty so if you're looking for something bare bones, this is your place. 7-housekeeping they said it came every day. The only thing housekeeping did was enter and do nothing except to give you a clean towel they didn't even take the dirty ones out.. read more

So I will start with a positives, this hotel is in a great location right on the beach, has its own Beach Bar and is convenient to everything. The staff was wonderful and very helpful with anything we asked for. We had a one bedroom which was a great size, it had a pull-out couch dining room table and kitchen setup. Now for the negatives, there was no dressers hooks or any place to put anything in our room or hang wet towels. We had six people living out of duffel bags. The living room area was very large and not sure why there was no shelves hooks or drawers to put anything in. The same in the bedroom besides a very small closet. And in the closet there was a wide open hole into the roof. The TV was not connected to the cable or even plugged in when we got there. Half of the plugs were loose and not even working. There was no place to wipe your feet when you came in from the sandy beach. Therefore you had to constantly sweep the living room. This Motel has such potential, not sure why it has not been capitalized on. read more

I'm a fan of the Sandy Shore. Their location is great! Their beach is very nice! The staff is very friendly. The MOB bar is awesome! We love it here. They have the best connection for food at the beach as the order is brought right to your lap. Night time is the best. The bar is all lit up. You can hear the waves crash as you sleep. If I could make a recommendations for this place I would say they need to upgrade their WiFi. For the amount people pay WiFi should be so much better. They call it the Sandy shore for a reason...but some kind of mats for people to clean their feet off so they don't bring sand into the rooms. No one likes sand in their bed sheets. We arrived on a Tuesday for a girls trip. As soon as we entered our room we were met with an overwhelming mildew smell. The beds were very hard, no microwave, no coffee pot and no screen in the window. The only thing good about this motel are the ocean views. read more

We booked this trip in 2019 based on recommendation from friends who were staying there at the time. Due to Covid, had to push it out a year to this year. What a difference from their experience. We rented the Apartment for a week. It was clean but the refrigerator had a cabinet handle screwed to the door. Sure gave it a rustic feel, wasn't looking for that at $1800+ a week, but hey, Covid, the excuse for everything now. We brought our own food and such and were told by staff we were lucky to have a coffee maker in our room, however, there weren't any cups and the bartender went across the street to bring us paper cups. Coffee down the street at the little store is $4.00/cup. Across the street at the restaurant owned by same owner as the hotel charged also. The hotel charges $4.00/bag for ice. In other words there isn't an ice machine. The toaster that was provided didn't work either. It seems that if something is broken or stolen it is not replaced leaving their guests spending even more for the simple ammenities provided at other hotels. There are four on the staff that work long hours and do their best for their guests, but they are limited in what they have to work with. Seems this place has become the party haven for all of the drunks. Loud music all day and into the night. One night it was clashing with the live music across the street at the owners restaurant. The next night we had a drunk crawling around on our door mat, couldn't get out the door. The neighbor knocked and was verbally sexually abusive. I get that they cannot control their guests, but when several complain, perhaps the owner should step up and say something to them. The following night the party raged on and a drunk woman threw a handle bottle of vodka through a glass door raining glass on the deck above and below on our deck including several cars in the parking lot. We dodged glass shards the remainder of the trip as they worked their way through the cracks in the deck above. I take care of my father 24/7 and get one week a year for a break. This was it. I saved for over 2 years to be able to go. I was looking forward to hearing the sound of the waves at night, and spending a peaceful time with my friends before facing the long Colorado winter. Gino (the owner) made excuse after excuse for the people who are rowdy and raucous. I get needing to scream, yell, hoot and holler, but I also get consideration for those who relax in other ways. If you are looking for the endless party, this is the place for you. If you are looking for the sound of waves and sitting on the deck to enjoy the sunset, find other accommodations. The staff, especially the front desk clerk/maid/problem solver and drunk wrangler at the front desk gets 5 stars as well as the maintenance man who ends fixing what the guests broke. Those two keep the owner in business. Sad that Gino is riding on his previous reputation, as this will only last so long. Sad that he is allowing these people to destroy his property. However; it does explain why the locals refer to it as "animal house." read more

I stayed at Sandy Shore this past weekend when I was in Westerly for a work event. I absolutely loved it there! Every room has an ocean view. They have made a lot of improvements on this property and are continuing to work hard to make changes. The staff was friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. I really enjoyed talking with all the staff members too! The room I stayed in was a basic room but was brightly decorated. It was clean. I slept well and am very happy with my stay. Just returned from a 5 day stay. This is our 15th year at Sandy Shore. Didn't disappoint. Rented 2 rooms and a one bedroom apartment. Since last year, rooms had been painted, new floors, new furniture, new toilets and vanities and new ac units. Rooms were spotless and the cleaning crew were fantastic, always happy to provide extra towels. Maintenance staff were also amazing. Mentioned a loose board on one of the steps and within 20 minutes someone was fixing it. Deck furniture was plentiful and in great condition. We will continue our yearly visit next year. I've always wanted to stay here in all my years of making day trip from CT to misquamicut state beach. It's the hotel at the end of the main drag and were you turn left to go to the state park. I wasn't expecting a fancy-stay just some place where I could walk directly from my room in my pajamas ( if I felt like it) and be on the beach. The lobby is just a small room that is manned by the manager lady who also was running the beach bar. We came in off-peak May so this probably changes when they are busier. We had booked on hotels.com so it had selected the very smallest and therefore worst room in the place ( room 14) on the top floor. After talking with the manager at the bar she told us it was better to call and speak with them to book the room so they could help us make a better selection next time. Out room was so small the only ventilation was the double doors, which are 1 foot from the queen bed. If you want air that isn't from the air conditioner unit you have to leave your motel door open. This was the smallest motel/hotel room I have ever stayed in. Even compared to places in Japan. Nevertheless it had a modern tv mounted up in the corner of the room that had an HDMI port for our roku stick. They have cable but we like access to our Netflix/Hulu/AmazonPrime/YouTube too. They don't usually provide hairdryers but my husband asked and they let us borrow one. They even offered to move our room after Sunday since the whole place had emptied out for the week. We declined since we were only staying one more night. We only had one night stand and no lamp ( we asked and gave us one - I think they were still getting ready for the season) The fridge was a college size half fridge which was nice. No coffee-maker. You couldn't probably guess there is no breakfast offered as well. There are some good places about 8 min drive away: Sunny Side Up and Cooked Goose. We ended up spending a decent amount of time at the beach bar, which is a very nice feature. Comfortable seating and friendly bartender conversation. One more thing the walls are very thin, I think I could hear our neighbor snoring at one point. Also if your neighbors are partying you can hear a lot. read more

We had a really great experience here this past weekend celebrating our anniversary. This was our first time staying here and it did not disappoint. We arrived to be meet by Frank who issued us our parking spot and told us were to park. We chatted a few mins and he told us we were assigned one of the newly renovated rooms. He was super helpful. When I went to check in at the desk a short time later, we meet Stephanie who was so nice and made check in a breeze. We got to our room and were blown away by it . It was beautiful, nicely done. See the attached pictures. There are even beach towels nicely folded for the guests to use. The new huge deck was wonderful and every room has an ocean view. What a beautiful spot. There outside bar was great, we talked to the owner a few times and Stephanie, who was also a great bartender. The were both great. On Fri they had a guy singing , who was awesome. We have been coming down to Misquamicut for the last 10 yrs for an anniversary weekend and use to stay next door , but he no longer books rooms. The only thing this motel has going for it is the location. The beds seemed clean, but the rest of the room was is in disrepair. There were exposed electrical wires coming out the wall which didn't seem safe. My children are older, but I don't think it would be safe with younger children. The bathroom was moldy and the shower stained. Included in our reservation confirmation were some policies that included quiet hours after 10 pm. There were groups hanging outside of their rooms partying and arguing and other groups playing loud music until after 1 am. There was no one onsite to address the issue and our family couldn't sleep. If you are looking to party and be right on the beach and can overlook all of the other issues good luck to you! We won't be returning to the Sandy Shore any time soon. read more

Also they don't cut off a totally drunk person that can't even walk straight. They keep serving that person with drinks ranking up their bill when that person is too intoxicated to every realize what's happening. Totally disgraceful to have bartenders take a advantage of people like that. And last don't go by their last call drink warning because if they want they will continue serving to whoever they wish. read more

I stayed at Sandy Shore as part of a group trip with a large number of friends, and it was our second trip to Sandy Shore (as we enjoyed it so much the first time). During our stay, I fell off the bed while wrestling with my girlfriend (sober, with other people in the room) and dented the wall. Our fault, we're willing to pay, no big deal... BUT when we received a bill for $350 for a shallow drywall hole, we called to see what the root of the expense was. During my girlfriend's conversation with the building manager, she was treated incredibly rudely. The manager yelled over her and at her, called her a "f---ing disrespectful little girl," and stated that "[they] can charge whatever [they] want for whatever [they] want." All of this occurred while we were speaking as politely, calmly, and respectfully as possible. The manager offered to give us the owner's contact information, then when asked for it denied any knowledge of the information or how to obtain it. I am not sure what common business practices are for this establishment, but screaming and swearing at a polite girl over the phone and "charging whatever they want" are some of the worst I have ever encountered. Not only will none of us be returning to Sandy Shore, but I hope this message reaches enough people to prevent this sort of unprofessionalism from impacting anyone else. read more

Hotel Impossible was there only 4 years ago but it needs to come back. There are holes in the wall, TP holders come off the wall when you try to change the TP, there is no soundproofing so our kids get blamed for being loud. A staffer stopped my wife when she was walking by around 7:30 PM of our first (very expensive) night. She lectured my wife about how my kids need to behave and didn't let her get a word in. She thought the conversation was resolved nicely as anyone would after they dominate a conversation. The staffer didn't raise or voice or say anything rude, but she was upset on Hotel Impossible on how she was treated by the owner. Ironic. read more

Let me be clear- I can tell from previous reviews that most of the hotel has been remodeled. Unfortunately, the room we were in was not which plays a large part in the DRAMA that was my sister's bachelorette party/one of the worst hotel stays IN MY LIFE on Friday 8/26/16. I booked the two bedroom apartment for a bachelorette party two months in advance, in June. The night manager woman I booked with knew this was a 7-8 person party, and it was a special occasion. And she was nice. The apartment on the site had recently been remodeled and looked awesome! Fast forward to check in day. I called to ensure we would be in our room at 3 to decorate. We arrive at around 2:30 only to be told our room wasn't clean yet. As the cleaning lady stood there at the front desk chatting and informing me that actually it would be more like 3:30. I believe the exact words were "Let's be real, it'll be more like 3:30" after the front desk girl said 3:15. Fiiiiiiiiine. I made SURE they would be done by 3:30 so we had time to decorate 3:30 rolls around and we walk up to our room and guess who JUST STARTED "cleaning it"? Yep. The cleaning crew of 2 young girls thinks it's hilarious that they're mopping as we are carrying in our stuff and had the NERVE to tell me sorry she had to STOP BEFORE FOR A CIGARETTE. Real nice. Well they "cleaned" that room in about 5 minutes flat. Aka, we knew it was not clean at all. Upon entering the room, I look and realize...there's ONLY ONE BEDROOM. This is NOt the room we saw on site and booked. So I high tail it down to the front desk and show them my confirmed reservation for Apt 2 - aka two bedrooms. The response I got? "ohhhhhhh man...someone fucked up." The professionalism was overwhelming. I was then told oh well, because the hotel was completely booked so we were stuck with a DISGUSTING one bedroom that slept 4 for our party of 7. OH WAIT, they had ONE regular room available that I could take.....that did not have working air conditioning BUT they were going to replace it right away. I had no choice but to say fine. Upon returning to the room, I find my sister almost in tears because the lights were INFESTED with gnats, the bathroom closet wall was literally rotting away, the couch was filled with sand, and the room still filthy. Oh and the shower handle came off in her hand when she went to test the shower. But we still tried to make the best of it and decided to bake some appetizers. Upon opening the oven- WE FOUND A PIZZA BOX FILLED WITH MOLDY PIZZA. THAT WAS NOT OURS. When we were done gagging we grabbed it with the garbage bag and took it to the front desk who was equally horrified BUT DID NOTHING TO COMPENSATE US FOR THIS NIGHTMARE. In fact, they still charged my sister $3 per ice bag and charged us $25 per parking space for our extra cars despite late checkin, THE WRONG ROOM, a filthy room, and moldy pizza. OH i'm sorry they gave us a drink voucher for two free drinks at their bar. FOR A PARTY OF 7 GIRLS. Uhhhh, thanks? We had no choice but to stay there- everywhere else was sold out and I didn't want to ruin my sister's bachelorette. But seriously- this was a CLUSTER of incompetent staff, the worst housekeeping ever, a disgusting room and absolutely no customer service. I want to cry every time I look at my credit card bill. SERIOUSLY DO NOT BOOK ANYONE IN THAT APARTMENT UNTIL YOU REDO IT. Oh, I guess I should add the view is beautiful and Frank the parking man was very hospitable. So there's that. read more

Do yourself a favor and spend the extra money and get a better place or walk to the beach. A mixed bag. Superb beach experience. Below average hotel experience. If you want a motel with direct access to a semi-private beach, this place is great. Drive up, park your car at the edge of the beach and stay in a room that is right on the beach. Couldn't be more convenient. Beach is clean and shoreline is nice, fine sand; the atmosphere is peaceful. Nice little town with a few beach shops, bars and food joints. The main beaches here are really crowded, so this direct access to a much less crowded part of the beach is really fantastic. On the other hand, the rooms are below average (yet expensive). Sparsely furnished, not particularly clean. Tiny bathroom. Thin walls. No amenities. All rooms have access through a common balcony/terrace where there are a few sets of tables and chairs that seem constantly occupied by noisy kids or drunk adults. (The hotel provides room service for beer and liquor.) We had one such table right outside our room, so we got to "enjoy" the drunken ramblings of a squabbling couple one evening. When I booked the room, I was assured of Internet access, but that was hardly the case. The wi-fi does not reach every room. The management acted surprised to hear this, but one staff member confessed that it was not unusual to get complaints about this. Combined with the very weak cellphone signal, it was hard to stay in touch. I guess that's good when you're on vacation, unless you want to use Yelp to find a nearby restaurant. I'd give the beach experience 4 stars and the hotel 2, so this ends up with 3 stars. read more

Nothing like stepping outside to the beach and they have chairs and a small fire pit for cool nights. Great waves put me to sleep. The motel is a nice spot. First off floors were full of sand like they hadn't veen cleaned before we got there. But I was disappointed at the fact that our ac unit filter hadn't been cleaned in what looked like the entire summer. The vent in the bathroom was the same. W bugs in the light. W the covid virus around i would think cleaning measures would be much better. Our fridge was broken which they did replace immediately for us. When they pulled out the old fridge there was filth and dirt all behind it. Location and staff is very friendly but they def need to step up their cleaning measures. There was also a bunch of "regulars" here who just basically took up half the beach. When I asked the owner what was going on they said it was just people who have been coming for 18 years. So I guess they don't care much about new customers and want to just serve the old ones they have. There was no social distancing either. No madk regulations. Just a feast for the virus. Bottom line it was an OK place but i would not stay here again. read more

Great location, nice room. Decided to go for the night 6/26 room #26 for my husbands birthday. Only issue is our room didn't have any water in the shower. We were able to get 1 - 5 minute shower ( there was 3 of use so 2 didn't get to shower) before the water turned off. This happened before check out. Upon check out I asked if they had a timer on the shower because we still had water in the sink and toilet. I was then told they were having issues with a hot water heater and they didn't know which room it was. I reached out twice for some sort of refund because the rooms were not cheap and I was ignored. Stayed in the renovated rooms: Property was well maintained on the exterior and the rooms were decently maintained especially for a seaside motel. The Property abuts the ocean and has a bar and deck with outdoor seating and a fire pit. Service is good at the bar and the bartender is very nice as well. The rooms we found to be adequate. They're small and tight and have very little to know place to store or hang clothing, which can be imperative for the beach. Rooms were inconsistently furnished, for example our downstairs counter part didn't have a microwave but we did eventhough They're the same exact room. Rooms are approximately 400 sq ft and you will definitely bump into eachother. The hotel caters mostly to loud obnoxious drunkards that bang on doors at 2 am and fall down stairs. Upon arrival, the parking is insane and there aren't enough spots for the rooms, even with 1 car per room. Our room floor at arrival was disgustingly filthy with trash, debris and sand. It would have been acceptable if it was our debris. This was the same experience in the other room our friends stayed in below us. Shower was a very small standup shower and didn't have a strong or really any water pressure. Overall, I probably wouldn't stay again. The only plus was the comfortable bedding, beachside location and private beach. read more

We have been going to this motel every summer for the past 3 years. Love the convenience of how close the ocean is. This year the manger question my husband if he was staying at the motel because he had a small cooler.. She didn't believe that he was staying at the motel till I walked around our umbrella and confirmed it was true.. She was very rude and unprofessional. Only after she knew we was staying there is when she put on a fake show & started being nThey say the beach is private but we watched anyone and everyone walk on the beach and sit right on top of us during the week of the 4th of July!! No space at all for people who are actually staying at the motel.. No coolers allowed on the beach when we pay how much money to stay at this hotel?? That's ridiculous!! We watched people smoke cigarettes & cigars right in front of the lifeguard.. Chris is a very hard working man. He did awesome!! He helped us out a couple of times. He is down to earth and real!! As my husband and I drove up and saw the Sandy Shore Motel, we became like little kids. Pretty much because the hotel reminded us of those same hotels our parents used to take us to AS kids, when we'd pack up the station wagon and all pile in the car for a trip down to the beach. It was cozy, welcoming and the location couldn't be more spectacular. The front office and staff are out of a movie- so friendly, laid back and charming. Just relaxed people who live by the beach (maybe even family?) who are just pleasant and in no rush....it rubs immediately off on you- which is as it should be when you are on vacation. We had a unique experience in that we had booked our weekend room online, for the same weekend that the Motel was hosting a fundraiser. An ALL day/ until MIDNIGHT, 3 Tribute Band Fundraiser...for a really worthy cause; The Firefighters Family Fund. More on this in a minute.... We checked into our clean, quiet and very comfy room on Friday. Awesome ocean view and the sound of the waves crashing lulled us to sleep. We woke up however, to huge amplifiers being hauled in and set up just steps away from our room. The parking lot was blocked off- and all kinds of preparations were going on for the 10 piece orchestra that was going to be playing all day. It looked to be a rousing event! The dream of spending the day reading while listening to the ocean and waiting to head out for a wedding evaporated quickly. I went down to the front desk to ask about the event, and met Gino the owner. He listened to my plight- and was kind enough to offer me a refund for my stay on Saturday, recognizing it wasn't normal circumstances. I truly appreciated his gesture- and as a result will ABSOLUTELY plan to return. If truth be told- the music was PHENOMONAL- and I'd like to come back again to hear it....just this time- I will be expecting it!! I'd recommend this hotel as a wonderful getaway for anyone. It has everything you need...and if you love the sand and the surf- then you will have found your heaven! read more

I strongly recommend you stay elsewhere. My bed was completely broken -- specifically the box spring underneath the left side of the mattress. Such that if you lay on it, you fall through it in the shape of a V. Unfortunately, I didn't discover this until around midnight as I had just dropped off my bags and gone to the beach when I arrived. Brought it up with the front desk the next day who told me to call in and speak to a manager about a partial refund (the room cost $309 for 1 night.) So I did so and was rudely informed that the bed was "not broken" and I would receive no refund. The person I spoke with did not go so far as to call me a liar, but certainly implied it. Interesting fact, the room was demolished the following day as part of a reality show that takes dumpy, downtrodden motels and builds them back up. So room 11 may turn out to be a very nice room in the near future...but why take chances? read more

The location is great, beautiful view of the beach, literally feet from the beach. However, if you are looking to get some sleep at night, it won't happen. The walls are too thin, you can hear your neighbors all around you and especially above you. Across the street at the local bars were bands playing loud music until 2am. There were a lot of loud people who were inconsiderate of people sleeping in rooms as they walked by at 3am being loud and obnoxious. The rooms were ok, nothing fancy, however for the amount of money paid per night I was expecting more out of my room. Very poor experience. Staff does not accommodate guests and is extremely rude. The rooms are dirty and old, and the motel is loud at all hours. Our room had no hot water. The "private beach" is very small and crowded, as well as full of rocks. The only positive thing about this motel is the view of the ocean and the convenience to not have to drive to the beach. My friend and I checked in on August 3 2017, we paid over 300 dollars. I had returned from Europe on a vacation where I stayed in so many hotels...I can say with certainty that the room I walked into at The Sandy Shore Motel looked only a little better than a shelter. The towels were not cleaned, the soap was not replaced and so thin it was unusable, the toilet paper was the cheapest paper I have ever felt, and on top of all this the bathroom ceiling immediately started leaking with brown dark dirty water all over the bathroom tiles, rendering the whole facility unusable. I did not want to take a shower or use the sink or toilet. I had to buy bottled water in order to brush my teeth and wash my face because of the level of filth. I also had to use the nearby bathroom at a restaurant. When I told the receptionist, she did not care in the least. We asked her to contact the owner and she replied that "The owner is in a meeting." along with "Too bad. That's what it is." Not only were we not offered compensation, we were met with a horrible attitude about it. I RECOMMEND THIS MOTEL TO NO ONE. STAY CLEAR. There are far better options than this for the same price. read more

This year the hotel has gotten even better. They have a bar outside right on the water with a platform and seating. Also the staff was very friendly and accommodating. One of the best if not the best service I have ever received. read more

My husband did a lot of research before choosing this place and we really didn't see many negative reviews, which was surprising because this place is dirty, dilapidated and just plain terrible. I gave it two stars because of the beachfront location which was nice. The motel staff is unaccommodating and uninterested in providing any sort of customer service. We paid over 200 per night for this place which is an outrageous amount considering what we got for it. read more

My mom, sister and I decided to visit Westerly for a girls weekend, after looking online for the best place to stay we decided to book a room here. As soon as we arrived staff greeted us and had all of our information ready, our check in time was reserved for 3:00 and was ready for us at 12:30, almost three hours early! Not only do they provide a parking spot, your room is literally a minute from the beach. There's a bar with easy access from the beach and a one-man-band from 4-7. Our room was perfect for us, everything seemed clean and well maintained, nothing over the top but who goes to the beach to sit in their room! If I decide to visit anytime again in the future I will definitely be booking here! read more

sandy shore... more like sandy floor. This place is very dirty, and the staff is unfriendly and rude. Sad this this is one of the few places that survived the storm that took out a lot of the businesses on the strip. Do yourselves a favor and look elsewhere read more
