What was a great restaurant really disappointed. Prices up quantity and quality down. Wife had sushi she said so so after raving about their sushi for years. I ordered chicken in lettuce cups minuscule couldn't fine the chicken. Ordered scallops appetizer 2 scallops the size of a quarter for $18 I have never in my life seen scallops this size. Walk in on a Monday at about 715 ask for a table for two they said that they were fully booked. The restaurant was empty. They offered to let us sit at a bar that doubles as a storage room. We agreed and sat there and order the exceptionally expensive food, which is decent but expensive. This is one of our favorite places for fresh delicious sushi selection! It's byob. We are never let down by the service and food & quality. We have a few things that are our favorite. The mushroom salad is so so good if you like mushrooms. The Wagyu carpaccio is out of this world and sooooo tasty. The Sesame toro is same AMAZING. The famous rice crispy roll is hands down delish and worth trying! The salmon, eel, uni, toro, and tuna sashimi are ALWAYS fresh and amazing. The tuna pizza is my favorite as well for an app although it's on the heavier side so it's suitable to share. The sea bright roll & the lobster one is our favorite as well. The ingredients are fresh and some of the rolls are created with a unique combination of ingredients. I like that the names of some of the rolls play homage to the local area (Sea Bright, Sandy Hook, Ocean Ave and Rumson Roll). The seaweed salad was good with a generous serving; enough to easily feed 2. The prices on some of the items are a little higher than I've seen for their equivalents at other restaurants. But, Yumi does offer the option to eat sushi on the shore in Sea Bright. We did take-out, but Yumi does offer the BYOB option for those dining in. read more

We had takeout from Yumi and I wasn't particularly impressed. The food was good, but not great. Is it good enough for a 4? Eh, I don't think so. The soft shell crab in my Mame spider roll was disappointing, overly breaded and fried to a crisp so you didn't get much crab flavor and more oily thick breading taste. The rice was a bit dense too. The Shuen roll was pretty decent. The tuna sashimi pizza has a generous portion of tuna tartare and good flavor combination. The Avo ebi cone was a little unusual, not for my palate (I found it overly citrusy) but my friend thought it was interesting and enjoyed it. The Pan grilled duck breast had a layer of some hard to chew fat but otherwise was decent- not particularly noteworthy. The salmon cucumber roll was also fine. Overall- this wasn't a bad meal- but it wasn't a great meal, and for the prices, taste and value I wouldn't recommend it. read more

The food here is literally so toe curlingly good i had the sweet onion roll and i'm telling you the flavors melted on my tongue and it truly was the best food i've ever had. The atmosphere was quiet and intimate and made room for great conversation with my partner. Our service was quick, with nice warm hand towels and a delightful woman who was so kind. We happened to be in the area, saw the amazing ratings and reviews (26 in another rating site proudly displayed in the entrance). It was Saturday 8pm, the place was packed, but luckily the sushi bar was wide open, red light started to blink but we ignored it, we also paid no mind to the slow service, as the place was packed, however we did find it somewhat odd that the sushi chefs (all 6 of them) did not seem overly busy, by this point air raid sirens should have been blaring in my head, but alas we ordered a few specials and a few classic rolls, as well as ramen for the kids and a couple of miso for us. Here there was another surprise, there is only "chicken rice miso soup", which was bland and just plain odd, and for $6 a pop just served as a slap in the face. Then came the shrimp tampura roll, where do I start? On the good side beautifully presented and indeed shrimp, that being said it was, cold, bland, with a bizarre addition of fried crispy Israeli couscous on the rice, the combo did not work well. The special nigiri where pretty decent, but tiny. And as for the rest of the rolls were as good as any airport sushi restaurant. All this for a substantial amount of dollars, that could have been much better spent at the next door take out only Chinese place for 10 happier dinners. read more

This place had great sushi! The one thing I loved about their menu is that you can create your own roll. You can choose one base of fish or vegetable and then add as many other things you want listed on the menu. I asked for jalepeno in mine and it wasn't listed in the menu and they still got it! Edamame and vegetable gyoza were good too! The atmosphere was nice, food came really fast and fresh and staff was very friendly. The staff was maybe a bit too quick to clean our plates away as I was not able to lick my plate clean after eating my meal This place is BYOB. They have a wine menu for full bottles only. I was visiting family in Rumson recently, having Yumi Sushi take out. The quality of what I ordered, the Shuenn Roll, was first rate. It had a great presentation, which I don't usually think of for take out, and the synthesis of the flavors were first rate. My only complaint was I wish there were more pieces....I was saddened when I had the last bite of it. I am looking forward to returning there. read more

I've heard so many AMAZING things about Yumi, so I finally made my way over to check it out. It was a nice night so we opted to sit outside. It's BYOB. Service was quick and attentive, the waitress was fun and playful. She brought us an ice bucket for our wine. We were waiting on a fourth member of our party so we weren't in a rush to order entrees. We ordered edamame and tuna pizza to hold us over. The edamame was good, served with a lime. However I felt it was overpriced (at $7). Typically edamame is around $5 max. $2 may seem subtle but keep reading. The tuna pizza was delicious, the pancake was crispy, the tuna was fresh. But again ,$16 for a tuna pizza, very overpriced. When the fourth party member finally arrived, we had a hard time tracking down the waitress. I understand we told her we were waiting, but at a certain point it was like we were forgotten. We ordered 3 rolls, the sandy hook, the ocean ave, and the lobster roll. We got one roll brought out, then the other two took some time to come out. Not sure why we were served that way but. They were all very fresh, not overly stuffed with rice, and just overall delicious. These rolls ranged from $14-16. Again, in my opinion they were overpriced. The special rolls we usually order from multiple restaurants range from $8-max $15 for a higher end roll. A majority of the rolls at Yumi were $15 and up. After splitting the check 3 ways, (the fourth member paid separately) it came to $43 a person. In my opinion, and experience, $43 / person for dinner without liquor is just very high. Generally when you order drinks that's about the cost, but for a BYOB sushi place, it's definitely pricey. We had a hard time getting the waitress when we tried to pay the bill. But overall, it was an ok experience. I'd probably give it 3.5 stars just due to prices and the server kind of forgetting us. The food quality is great, so I guess that gives it a half a star, and makes up for the negatives. read more

We were new to the Sea Bright area and on a whim decided to try Yumi. We read the reviews and were hopeful. We were more than pleased with the level of service and the food. We loved that it is BYOB and they didn't charge a corkage fee. We will definitely return to Yumi the next time we are in the area. read more

So we went out looking for a pleasant sushi experience. We were shocked from the pure hatred acts of service. I am disgusted. We ordered our food at 7:15. we got our appetizers at 8:00, even though they were all uncooked items. We then waited over an hour trying to get our entrees out of the kitchen. Didn't check up on us, and lied to our faces about the sushi rice not being ready. We will not be coming back and neither should anyone that sees this.
