First time visitor here after seeing many good reviews from those that I follow. Easy to park and not crazy busy at noon on Friday, but the place was fairly full. "Importers" gave me the impression that it was more of a market as opposed to a deli or sandwich shop but it's all three. The market items are ok but not exactly a supermarket. The deli section looked very good, but the food counter is where all the action is. I saw no entrees being made at all and the focus here is on sandwiches. Being a newbie, I like to focus on the basic Italian sub and their's is quite good. Start with the bread... the roll was delicious. My "Special Sandwich" was loaded with imported ham, cotto salami, dry salami and swiss. Unfortunately, it was also loaded with mayonnaise and mustard. I love a good mayo, but I was really bummed there was no Italian dressing, like a true Italian sub. Still a good sandwich but that cost them a star. The rest of the ingredients were delicious and plentiful. The rest of the menu looked excellent. I'll be back when I'm in the area.

Our third time here and we've eaten our way through over half the menu. Service is very kind and patient. They happily explain their food with pride. Portions are generous. Lasagna is a homemade delight. They put mini meatballs between layers with a savory sauce, not overloaded with cheese. Their meatballs are tender and flavorful. Ravioli are pleasantly plump with filling. Sausage Saturday is deceiving. It's not just a single sausage. You get three big ones in a small! They had a great snap and depth of flavor. We've yet to find a dish that isn't flavorful; a must try eatery.

Occasionally, I'll go to Buena Park for an Italian beef sandwich. That store is the California outlet of an Illinois based chain, famous for its Italian beef sandwiches. I tried Santa Fe's Italian beef sandwich today. Santa Fe Importer's Italian beef sandwich is better. Here, the bread absorbs the au jus, but it does not get soggy. It remains firm through the entire meal, providing a good chewing experience. The meat is well seasoned. The beef is stewed, then shredded. The result is that the beef is tender and juicy; it doesn't seem overcooked and dried out. Peppers, onions, and sun-dried tomato are blended in. It's an all-round good sandwich; and it is priced appropriately, given the serving size.

No frills Italian deli. Quick service and plenty of great food options. Nice assortment of grocery/wine/drink options as well. Got to try two sandwiches for my first visit. The pastrami sandwich was great. Super tender meat with a balanced fattiness. And the meatball here has just about been perfected. The blend of meat, seasoning, herbs, etc., results in this light textured and tender meatball with a great flavor. Topped with mozzarella and house-made sauce, it was plenty messy but absolutely worth it. Would recommend and will definitely be returning.

I've been to the LB location a couple times, so thought I'd give the SB location a try since I was in the area. Parking is much easier here since it's in a large shopping plaza. The interior is clean but was pretty empty for a Saturday at lunchtime. The service I received was a no frills, "What would you like? Here's your order" type of service. I ordered the the small (10 inch) Special Sandwich, which is basically an Italian sub. The only difference between the small and large size is the amount of meat is doubled for the large. I thought the sandwich was ok and the bread roll was kind of tough to bite into.

Santa Fe has been a staple for many years in seal Beach. We always get their combination Italian large because the stuff the meat and it's for about $17. It's a huge portion and they have wonderful deli sides. You can pair it with a meal or even two meals if you're not a big eater like me. Their service is always quick, everyone is friendly and you walk in there looking like you've hit a little Italy. I've always thoroughly enjoyed this place. You should give him a try if you have it.

Found this place on Yelp when looking for lunch and I can honestly say it's probably one of the best pastrami sandwich sandwiches I've had in a long time. I used to think that In-N-Out had the best pastrami in California, but this place definitely beats it. Customer Service was good too extra points for being able to place an order over the phone and just grab for pick up. The ambience of the place was for deli vibes for sure I gave this place a 10 out of 10 and I would definitely come back

Been craving a good Italian sandwich and Santa Fe importers has been on my list for a long time. Cool little market with lots of sauces. Pasta frozen meats etc. really good deals also. Sausages were like 40 for 21 bucks. And they got really good meatballs also. Jack who helped me was super nice. Went over the menu. Let me sample a delicious meatball. Got a special sandwich. Excellent meat quality. And they pack it nicely. Really good mayo. Overall excellent sandwich. Bread did have a bit more chew than I like but this would not keep me away from coming back often. Especially with the nice service I got today

Service is great, there's this one guy on the shorter side who is just amazing to run into. The food is great - I love the combination sandwich and the meatball sandwich. It's also like a grocery store too with a bunch of authentic drinks, candies, cakes, pasta etc. Honestly an absolute gem and I'd recommend.

Been wanting to try this place for a while. Stopped in on a busy Saturday afternoon and ordered lasagna that comes with the meatball and a meatball sandwich. I was planning to order the special sandwich to go but I was so full from lasagna I decided to save it for another day. It's a very clean and organized facility with a delicatessen and a mini market there too. The food came out quickly. I enjoyed the lasagna the sauce was excellent the meatball was also very tasty. The meatball sandwich was very big and feeling. Can't wait to come back and try the rest of the menu! It's in a very conveniently located strip mall shopping area with a Target and a Ralph's Supermarket close by. This is one of my new favorite places where else can you find Fabulous shopping and tasty food!

I'm a huge fan of Santa Fe Importers, particularly their sandwiches. There's no better sandwich in the world than their Special. Although a light spread of mayo and mustard on the bottom bread would really make it shine as it can be a little dry. But I ordered a pizza tonight, maybe for the first time ever and boy was that a mistake. The dough seemed undercooked and was very doughy and flavorless. Still very blonde on the underside, but I don't know that it would be much better if it was fully cooked. If this is the best they can do they should take pizzas off their menu because it's doing them and us a disservice. I would be embarrassed to serve that to anybody. So stick with the sandwiches is my advice. Pasta dishes are good too. Just avoid the pizza.

$17 Large "Special sandwich" with imported ham, cotto and dry salami with swiss. The hubs does not like mustard or mayo so both were omitted. The lettuce and tomato provided some freshness and moisture to cut through the heaviness of the meats. Nothing better than a cold sandwich on a hot day! We love Santa Fe's Italian Subs (The Special). Fresh deli meats on a fresh bun! The small size is still.ver large, even shareable but we never share! They have lots of great hot sandwiches and entrees as well. I also picked up a container of Spaghetti Sauce. It's excellent and makes an easy meal. Service as always was friendly. They do a great job getting the food orders out during their very busy lunch rush! read more

This Santa Fe Importers location is a more upscale version than its original location in Long Beach. It's a cozy market that offers Italian groceries with a pretty robust deli section. We ordered two sandwiches: -pastrami ($19.09 for a large ): deli-style pastrami, pickles + mustard -combination sandwich ($11.57 for a small): extra-lean imported ham, wine-cured dry salami, Swiss with onions, lettuce, tomato, mustard, Italian-herb dressing + mayo While I do love a good Italian sandwich, I sometimes experience eating fatigue especially when the sandwich is super dense with a little too much dressing. Here, the combination sandwich is like a baby Italian. And even though I was initially skeptical about the onions, tomato, and lettuce - the additional veggies help cut the saltiness. Horrible spot. Really hard bread and they charge for everything, like really you spend $17 on a sub and they wanna charge $3 for olives and $3 for peppers.. Their ham taste old and they sandwiches did all day in their counter. read more

We have enjoyed many Santa Fe sandwiches over the years from this location and for many more years from the Original location on Santa Fe Ave. in Long Beach. We were very disappointed today, Sunday. The bread was starting to get dried out and must have been at least a day or two old. That totally affects the texture and quality of the sandwich. We had noticed this this issue before and I guess that's why we normally avoid coming here on Sundays. read more

I used to go there when I was a child at the Anaheim in Long Beach location after we went grocery shopping at the commissary. The sub sandwiches are pretty good. Enough to fill up on. They have cold cuts they slice in front of you. I'd go back and recommend this place read more

IG/TT @eatwkris @santafeimporters1947 has been around since 1947 and they are an Italian deli with freshly sliced cured meats and delicious sandwiches. They have two locations in seal beach and the original in long beach! My favorite was probably their special sandwhich. It came with tons of cured meat on a soft French roll and something about mayo, bread, and cold slices of meat just go so well together! If you haven't been to Santa Fe Importers in Seal Beach, you're missing out on one of the best Italian delis around! Everything here is made fresh and packed with flavor. We picked up some olive oil imported straight from Italy -- so smooth and rich, perfect for dipping bread or cooking. The fresh-made raviolis were incredible, you can really taste the difference compared to store-bought ones. And don't sleep on their lemon bars -- seriously, so bomb! The perfect balance of tart and sweet. Their sandwiches and deli items are top-notch too, everything we've tried here has been bomb. Definitely one of my go-to spots for quality Italian food and treats. read more

With all the rave reviews I expected better. Maybe I ordered wrong, maybe the hot sandwiches are the stars here. This was the most mediocre, bland and disappointing sandwich I've had. I regretted my choice and should have just gone next door to Jersey Mike's, at least their sandwiches have flavor other than mayo and bread. Customer service wasn't all that great either. There are far better sandwiches out there - ones that actually put lore than 3 slices of meat on some bread. read more

Oh wow my wife told me that her grandmother used to frequent this place and bring home sandwiches etc for the family and i finally got to try the food here for the 1st time. I had a Italian style sub with lots of different meats on it with the fresh made bread and it was over the top great. I cant wait to go back and try something else. The service here is very friendly. Don't forget to grab a spumoni ice cream before leaving. Its very calm and quiet inside to just sit down and relax with a real treat. read more

I keep hearing how great this place is and have been anticipating trying it out. What a letdown. Spent nearly $40 after a tip for 2 extremely mediocre sandwiches. The roast beer and a special. Bread was very stale and there was more mayo than meat on both sandwiches. We both took one bite and were finished. Wish I could get my hard earned money back, could have gone across the parking lot to Ralph's and got a better sandwich. A waste of time and money, very disappointing. read more

Decent sandwiches. First time trying this place out.. good service.. love the bread!! This location is a bit disorganized tho.. we tried the chopped salad sandwich and the cappicola sandwich. Both were new to the menu. The chopped salad sandwich could use more spicy something to it! And no mushrooms lol and the cappicola needed pepperoncini's!! I also prefer shredded lettuce but sandwiches were good over all. They have items you can purchase to take home, but I notice they do not make them themselves, unlike other delis we visit. read more

When you first walk in, the place is lively and inviting. You see the bakery, all the cookies, bagels, pastries, the little coffee shop area everything looks wonderful. It has that classic deli and bakery atmosphere, and I was looking forward to sitting down and having a good meal. We were seated in the two-person section just past the diner area. From where I was sitting, I was facing toward the main dining area and had a very clear view of a food-preparation/cutting-board area. Unfortunately, that's where the experience completely changed for me. I watched a woman wearing a white shirt, with dark hair and glasses, cutting what appeared to be loaves of bread or some type of pastry bread and placing the pieces into individual plastic containers. While I was watching, she dropped the bread knife onto the floor, picked it back up, and continued cutting food with it. I did not see the knife washed or sanitized before she resumed using it. That was concerning enough, but then I started paying closer attention. She was handling the food with her bare hand, and as she removed material from the loaves, I repeatedly watched her put that same bare hand inside the trash can to dispose of it. She would then go right back to touching the food she was cutting and packaging. I watched this happen repeatedly while she continued preparing what appeared to be dozens of portions. So from my seat, I was literally watching someone handle food with a bare hand that was repeatedly going into a trash can, while continuing to use a knife that I had personally watched fall onto the floor. There was also a gentleman in a white shirt standing next to her who appeared to be some type of supervisor, manager or lead. I obviously don't know his actual position, so I don't want to assume, but he was standing right there when the knife hit the floor and the food preparation continued. Then another situation caught my attention. A female customer approached regarding a problem with a salad. I couldn't hear every word of their conversation, so I'm not going to pretend I know the entire situation, but I could see and hear enough that the gentleman's manner toward her came across to me as stern, dismissive and unnecessarily belittling rather than trying to help a customer who had a concern. Then came our own meal. Earlier, I had mentioned to our waitress that we might order blintzes at the end of our meal. Somehow, the blintzes ended up being the first thing brought to our table, before our actual meals even arrived. It was one of those moments where you're wondering how "maybe at the end" turned into "bring them out first." Unfortunately, the actual food didn't redeem the experience. I had the meatloaf, and my companion had the roast beef. Neither was what I remembered Katella Deli being. The best way I can describe my meal is that it reminded me of institutional cafeteria food something closer to what I would expect from a school or hospital cafeteria than from a well known deli. And here's the thing: a disappointing meal by itself wouldn't have caused me to write a review like this. Restaurants have off days. Orders get mixed up. Food sometimes doesn't live up to your memories or expectations. That happens. What I can't get past is what I personally witnessed happening at that cutting board. I watched a knife fall onto a walkway floor where people were walking back and forth, get picked up and apparently put right back into use. I watched a bare hand repeatedly go into a trash can and then go right back to handling and packaging food. And I watched this continue through what appeared to be dozens of portions while another employee who appeared to have some type of supervisory role stood nearby. That's something I can't unsee. The bakery side still looks fantastic, and that's probably what makes this experience so disappointing. Katella Deli has been around a long time and has that classic, old-school deli atmosphere that makes you want to love the place. But after what I personally witnessed on this visit, I honestly don't know that I could sit down and eat there again. Maybe I'll stick with the bakery.

We ordered the family special to go, which was supposed to include a pasta, salad and garlic bread. My main complaints are about the service; there was an inexperienced clerk who messed up our order. At first, she did not know how to wait on customers until another guy came to help her. The biggest screw up was they did not include the garlic bread, which we did not notice until we got home and were already eating. No one wanted to drive back to pick up the garlic bread, so we did without. The restaurant did not offer to replace the garlic bread. Our son thinks the pasta was just okay and he could probably have made just as tasty a dish with canned sauce and dry pasta. The salad was the reason why I rate this establishment 2 stars instead of one for it was large and had many yummy things included and the dressing seemed homemade. The $19.99 Family Special is not that great of a deal and was an especially bad deal for us because we were shorted the garlic bread. Pizza Hut has a lower priced pasta special that is just as good and they deliver. read more

Santa Fe Importers is hands down one of the best spots for Italian food! The service is top-notch and the food is absolutely fire. The pastrami sandwich is a must-try, especially with the pepperoncinis that take it to the next level. The lasagna is rich, flavorful, and perfectly satisfying. I don't get to seal beach much but I got a tip about this place and it was pretty good. I would give them a five star review if Angelo's did not set the bar so high (review to come). They have great meats and really good bread and fixin's. Everything had a fresh pop to it and was delicious. Prices are good and even though they are behind the orange curtain they are pretty legit. Next time I am lost in shopping purgatory with the fam I will definitely hit this place again. read more

Great little spot, i have been to the one in long beach a long time ago and loved it. stumbled upon this location recently and while in the neighborhood i stopped by. This location was roomier than the one in long beach that's for sure. My friends and i enjoyed a day of italian food, and then brought some deli meats and cheese home to future use. I was shocked by how rude the little girl that works the front counter. I am ashamed I forgot her name. This place acts like they're doing you the favor by taking your order. They also have a difficult men. Certain items of specific day's then don't have it on the day they are supposed to. The girls attitude at the front is way crazy though. read more

This location is not as great as the Long Beach one is. The staff is uncaring to borderline rude. But their Pesto Pasta salad is amazing and so is their Caprese sandwich. Still I left feeling abused so will drive out of my way to Long Beach from now on. read more

I ordered the classic Torpedo. Although there were no size options, it was a huge sandwich loaded with fresh ingredients, savory meats, and a quality baguette. I also grabbed one of the La Dolce Vita drinks, and it made for a perfect, filling lunch. The serving sizes are generous, so sharing is an option. There is a market in the next room with many items from Italy, plenty to take home, and make a great meal. From dry ingredients and sauces to cold fresh pastas, pizza dough, snacks, olive oils, and more! Most you won't find in mainstream grocery stores. At the deli counter, meats and cheeses are offered, and prices per pound are posted just above the counter. First time visiting, and it was an excellent experience. The staff was friendly, made my sandwich with care, and kindly brought it to where I was sitting. The dining area is spacious inside, and a couple of tables on the sidewalk just outside the door.
