Tried for the first time after seeing it for so long since I like to visit the bar and coffee shop right next door. The staff is nice. Food came out quick. Prices were fair. I love turkey sandwhiches so I tried the California deluxe. Plain and simple so I can really try the flavor of the bread and cold cuts. Unfortunately I would not go back. The bread was very good. Avocado was fresh, but when I go to a deli I expect real cold cuts. Like Boars head types where I can tell it's real and freshly sliced. If I wanted thin slices of store bought deli meat I'd just go to subway. Maybe the other sandwhiches are good, but if the cold cuts aren't high quality I don't have any incentive to go back. read more

Visited with my sister after going to Burnt Umber next door. We both ordered breakfast burritos. I got mine with chorizo and she got it with bacon. It was the perfect size burrito. I really enjoyed the tator tots inside were still crispy and it was the right amount of cheesy. The burrito comes with a side of green salsa and I loved it because it was full of flavor and mild. I've tried the spicy pastrami sandwich w/ fries and the breakfast burrito here and both were sooo good! The spicy pastrami was super flavorful and the fries were perfectly crispy and thick. After trying several local breakfast burrito spots, I'd say this one is the best in the area. I got mine with bacon and the bacon was so crispy; not thick and chewy like the other ones I've had! I also loved that the eggs were fried over easy instead of scrambled. As a huge egg yolk lover, this is definitely one of my favorite ways I like to have my eggs. The burrito was also loaded with lots of cheese and crispy hash browns as well. The salsa verde it came with was also great--not too spicy but not too mild. Parking is easy and the staff are super friendly. Definitely come by and give this place a try! read more

I wanted to take my daughter out for breakfast, so we tried this small restaurant. We walked in and I asked the gentleman behind the counter about his breakfast omelets. He pointed out that they are not on the menu but he would make whatever we'd like. And that was very refreshing. So we ordered her an omelet to her liking and I got myself a breakfast sandwich with squaw bread...I usually add some kind of spice or chili sauce to my food...but this sandwich was perfect just the way it was. He came out to check on us, and asked if we needed anything and we told him everything was great just the way things were. We sat outside on a little patio in front of the restaurant and it was perfect weather. We stopped off at this place during a drive back from Laguna. Delicious, fresh food from clearly a family run shop. The veggie sandwich and spicy chicken soup really hot the spot. When my husband had ordered spicy chicken soup and jalapeño chips, the person helping us recognized instantly that he loved spicy food, brought him 3 delicious freshly grilled jalapeños and a side of salsa. I stopped by to grab a quick lunch, I got the Awesome Bulgogi, which came with caramelized onions, mushrooms, provolone cheese, lettuce, and tomato on a French roll. The bulgogi was marinated perfectly and wasn't too sweet. I recommend eating it there since the bread can get slightly soggy from the bulgogi. I had been to Old Pumpernickel Deli maybe 20 years ago, and was not super impressed. Earlier this week, I was in the neighborhood and needing a sandwich so I went in and got the Turkey Basil. Amazing! I think it is different owners since last time. It's only a dollar or so less than a Jersey Mike's or a Subway, but about five times more delicious! I came back with the hubby yesterday and we got the banh mi inspired Taste of Asia and the American Hero and they were also awesome. The meat itself on the hero is nothing special, just ordinary cold cuts in an ordinary amount, but the French roll is delicious and crusty and the dressings are so tasty! Finally temembered to give this place a try, having driven by hundreds of times. Well, curiousity sated. Service was good, and food came quick. Sadly that was the best part. For starters, an extra charge for cheese is being cheap (especially when I end up with two thin slices that cost no more than 10 cents). The big issue is the chicken. As in the photo, it was a thin disc of hard, over cooked chicken that took far too much chewing. Sad to say, the meat at subway is better than this. It ruined the sandwich, and my first impression. Second, it was near $10 for one small sandwich, and the very thin fillings. Really wasn't worth $5, and likely cost $2 to make. I might try the burrito, but based on this, likely not. read more
